Kaede watches as the prince of the western lands rushes out of the woods with a shaken expression on his usually emotionless face as he walks swiftly back towards her hut.
She raises an eye brow while rubbing her chin and looking around for kagome, ‘now where has that girl gotten to?’
She sighs quietly and sits down at one of the tables her eyes still scanning the crowd as she gets lost in her thoughts.
‘Poor child, doesn’t even remember her family, it’s terrible really.’

-Flashback-
A younger Kaede walks down the path leading from the palace. She stretches her arms above her head as she walks, worn out from the long trip.
‘Well at least she cares enough about her un-born child to have an annual checkup’ Kaede thinks with a smile remembering Lady Ai’s smile when she heard her baby was doing fine, and her daughter, kagome, jumping up and down in excitement for her sibling.
Kaede and Ai had been friends before Ai married the lord of the North and moved there. So when Ai found out she was pregnant she sent for Kaede, who was a healer to come and help her with her pregnancy. Kaede who lived in the west made the journey as soon as she got the letter, and stayed until the child was born and helped to deliver her.
She remembers the way Ai had screeched and spluttered about her husband would be very acquainted with his hand because there was no way in hell she was doing this again as she delivered the child. She had meant it too; it was another five years until she was pregnant again.
Kaede looks around when she realizes the woods are unnaturally quiet. She stops walking and eyes the woods around her before slowly turning around and looking at the palace in the distance.
‘Is that smoke?’ She feels fear build in her stomach just as a scream breaks through the silence in the woods.
Kaede’s stomach drops when she recognizes Ai’s voice and begins sprinting back towards the Northern palace; fear fills her as she fears for her friend’s safety. She hears a small voice cry out in pain in the woods next to her and dread fills her.
‘Kagome!’ she changes direction and begins racing in the direction of the small voice praying for the child’s safety. She slides down a hill and looks around the bottom frantically, then her eyes land on the small crumpled body.
‘No!’ Kaede rushes to the child’s side and drops to her knees as she reaches down to lift her only to stop in fear of hurting her worse.
Her hands shake as she tries to fight off the tears, knowing the only reason Kagome would be alone would be if something happened to her parents. Her lip wobbles as she looks down at the girl who is barely breathing yet still clutching that stupid cat protectively to her chest. She smiles shakily at how loving and protective that girl is. She gently as possible begins examining Kagome and feels her heart stop when she realizes her spine is shattered and a few ribs are broken. Even if she survives she most likely won’t walk again. Kaede sobs into her hands brokenly for the child and her parents when she sees a pink light begin to glow around the girl.
Her eyes go wide with shock as she recognizes the energy as of that of a Miko and watches in wonder as Kagome heals herself and the cat before sighing in content and cuddling her face into the cat’s fur, her breathing evening out. Kaede reaches out and brushes Kagome’s bangs out of her face before closing her eyes tightly as she thanks the heavens.
She hears a twig snap behind her and whips around, bow and arrow drawn, and fires it into the heart of a demon. She hears growls echoing in the woods and she snatches kagome up into her arms, yes and the cat, before turning and running as fast as she can back in the direction of the path.
Later after she made it to a nearby village, and they sent a search party to see if the lady and lord of the north survived, she sat in a hut next to a pallet on the ground as she watched over kagome who was still unconscious. She eyes Buyo as he watches her from his spot curled up next to kagome with suspicious eyes.
“Stupid cat, I'm not going to hurt ye” Kaede mutters just as one of the villagers from the search party enters the hut with a solemn look.
Kaede doesn’t even need to hear him tell her that they didn’t make it, his expression said it all. Kaede cries into her hands softly as it hits her that she will never talk with Ai or Aki again, or meet her friend’s unborn child. Tears pour more freely as she thinks of the un-born child, never given the chance to live. She looks down at Kagome sleeping with a peaceful expression on her angelic face. Kaede decides right there that she will be there for her.
-End Flashback-

-Present-
Kaede had stayed with her until she woke up, and was shocked when the girl claimed to have no memory, not even her name. Kaede felt as if a great burden had been lifted off her chest at the time and told the girl she had found her in the woods and was going to take care of her. So she was worried now that she didn’t know where she was. Kaede heaves her old body up and begins walking in the woods, thinking Kagome took a walk.
“Kagome child! It’s almost time for the banquet!” she hollers as she hobbles through the woods.
Kagome stiffens when she hears Kaede calling for her and hurriedly jumps up and fixes her kimono and hair, “Sorry! I wanted a break from the noise and crowd!” Kagome says walking towards Kaede’s voice.
“Well next time tell someone” Kaede scolds as Kagome walks towards her quickly brushing grass off her Kimono, “Child what were ye doing look at you Yer filthy!”
Kagome blushes fiercely and stammers out, “s-sorry! I was sitting looking at the sky!”
‘I definitely wasn’t making out with the heir to the western lands!’ that annoying voice in the back of her mind sneers, ‘your right you were doing much more than that- STOP IT!’
Kagome flushes under Kaede’s watchful stare with her good eye before nodding and turning around and calling over her shoulder, “well come on child it’s time to eat.”
Kagome hurries after her and considers faking an illness to get out of dinner before shaking her head.
‘No! That jerk isn’t going to scare me away from my own village!’ she marches after Kaede her mind set on staying and enjoying the Festival… sort of.

Sesshomaru paces in the small hut as his mind spins.
‘Why did this Sesshomaru call that girl his mate? And why the hell did I kiss her?!’ He growls under his breath when his beast says smugly, ‘what did you expect? She is our mate just accept it and go to her! She’s hurting because you’re an idiot and left her.’ His beast growls lowly, ‘you left her without any explanation; she is probably thinking she is a whore!’
‘SHUT UP! Go back to your cage!’ Sesshomaru growls at all the emotions running through him.
He thinks about Kagome and how perfectly she had fit in his arms, how delicious she had smelled, how beautiful she looked in the moonlight. Her cheeks flushed with arousal and her blue eyes hooded with pleasure he had caused. If she really was his mate then he needed to stake his claim on her before anyone else had the chance, especially that idiot Koga. Sesshomaru’s eyes tint red as he thinks of the uncivilized wolf touching what was his.
He throws his shoulders back and walks back out into the Festival slipping back into his cold facade as he walks towards the table, determined to figure out what Kagome is to him.
Just as he steps out a voice calls out to him, "Sesshomaru! So good to see you!"
Kikyo.

A/N- I would like to thank lara5170 for bringing some things to my view that hadnt noticed I left out... Sorry! I hope I cleared most of it up but for the questions about if Kagome has used her powers since her parents first realized she was a miko that is a no (other than the scene in this chapter), since she doesnt even know she is a miko let alone how to use her powers, they only come out when she is in a deathly situation or some one she loves is hurt. Also you asked if she had her memory and that is a no, she only knows what keade told her in this chapter, and then the lady that I mentioned in the first chapter that Kagomes mather was reading a letter from will be revealed later in the story.
In case I wasnt clear in the flashback (if I wasnt sorry!) Kagomes parents were the Human Lady and Lord of the Northern lands.
How Japan works in my story is that there is four main areas (North South East and West) ruled by two main familes a demon family and a human family. The demons are more involved of the protection of their lands and the humans are more involved with the politics. Demons go to the Demon family with their problems and Humans go to the Human family with their problems. Here is a list of the rulers and their family,
North-
Naraku Himura (Lord Age: Unknown but very old), Kagura (Daughter age: 22), Kanna (daughter age: 9), Hakudōshi (son/heir age: 10)
the northern lands was taken over by Naraku and no one goes there because now the land is dark and has scarce vegetation. No other family rules there except his.
East-
Demon Family- Zaidia Ookami (Demon Lady of the eastern lands), Koga Ookami (Demon Lord (alpha) of the eastern lands)
they are wolf demons. Zaidia's Mate and former lord of the eastern lands, Gorou dies in a battle when Koga was in his teen years, forcing Koga to step up and take leadership. Zaidia remains lady of the eastern lands until Koga mates.
Human Family- Kazuki Kobayashi (Human lord of the eastern lands), Riku Kobayashi (Human Lady of the eastern lands)
Riku and Kazuki are newlyweds, and Riku is pregnant.
South-
Demon Family- Jiro Ito (Demon lord of the southern lands- Age: 754), Zara Ito (lady of the eastern lands- Age: 546), Nobou Ito (Heir to the southern lands- Age: 234), Neveah Ito (Daughter and second in line Age: 217.)
Jiro Ito is a very cold man (the whole family is bird demons) he is not evil just very selfish, his wife is a perfectionist and will scold her children (sometimes hit them) if they do not meet her expectations, Nobou is a power hungry demon and is very competitive, Neveah is the only nice one in the family comes off as shy and reserved.
Human Family- Tado Ohayashi (Lord of the southern lands Age: 48), Nia Ohayashi (Lady of the southern lands Age: 39), Kikyo Ohayashi (Heiress to the southern lands Age: 24).
Tado is in simple words... a ruthless bastard; he trained his children to get what they wanted at any cost. Nia is oblivious to her husband’s ways and is a ray of sunshine. Kikyo is a female version of her father and has her sights set on the Taisho sons (preferably Sesshomaru) and is going back and forth between them.
West-
Inu-Taisho (Lord of the western lands Age: 1,653) Naima Taisho (Lady of the western lands Age: 1,345), Sesshomaru Taisho (Heir to the western lands Age: 993) Inuyasha Taisho (Second in line to the western lands Age: 32)
Inu Taisho's mated Naima a full dog demon and had Sesshomaru with her before Years later returning with a Human Izaiyoi who bared his child causing a sense of distrust with his mate, but she still lives in the palace. Soon after Inuyasha was born and Sesshomaru and him didn’t get along at all. They are the only ones that have only one family other than the northern lands; they only have a demon family.
Kagome-
Age: 21
Kagome is the heir to the northern lands and only Miko in all of Japan but she does not know this due to memory loss.
Shippo-
Age- 7
Shippo’s father and mother were killed and he had to fend for himself by stealing until Kagome Found him.

Jeez *wipes brow* That took forever! Ok I hope I helped clear any confusion or future confusion! Next chapter we see how Sesshomaru and kagome react to eachother after their incounter and how is Kagome and Kikyo going to react to eachother?
