Before too long, the four of them would arrive in the Western lands right in front of the palace it had been a pretty quiet trip. Toga had hoped Sesshoumaru had been well and that that he hoped he had a good time with his aunt and grandmother Generally he heard that he did, his pup was usually sweet to them. “We have plenty of room for all of you….” he was telling them. “Anyone hungry?” he asked. They hadn’t really stopped for anything he had preferred that they keep going just in case.
Sesshoumaru and Asuna were just touching down there having come back from being out the whole time hunted and spent time together. Sesshoumaru looked very relaxed though, as he touched down, at least graceful in his humanoid form, he looked confused. “...You’re just getting in father? I thought you would have been home sooner…” but that was not what he was confused about, who were these other people? Mika he could guess, but Izayoi and Kaze?
Asuna looked at Toga. “I didn’t think you would bring her home tonight, why not come and talk to Sesshoumaru about it first?” she asked him. She didn't even say hello to the other three. It wasn’t time yet.
Toga shook his head ‘There was no time” he said. “Unforeseen circumstances came up and there was no choice but to bring them back immediately” he said. “Asuna, do you think you can show them to where they may rest, while I speak to Sesshoumaru?” he asked her.
Asuna nodded. “Come.” she said, turning and looking at the band of three misfits she was to show the way. “Now, how many rooms will you need?” she asked.
Izayoi sighed. “Kaze, will you wish to share with me?” she asked, she knew that she’d just escaped death, so he probably wouldn’t wish to leave her. She didn’t blame him.
Kaze nodded at least for now he felt content to stay with his mother. Being around mika was fine, but there was so many demons there. It was just the same as being in central surrounded by humans. He would probably be very shy there for a few days...while they both got used to staying there.
Toga stayed behind with Sesshoumaru so that he could talk to his pup about this. “I meant to speak with you about all of this pup” he said. “I know it is very sudden and before you ask, I did not mate with Izayoi...she needed a safe place to belong” he said simply. That was really the only reason that they had come there after all. “Though...I do intend on one day…” he said.
Sesshoumaru was quiet as he looked at him, said nothing and headed inside. He honestly didn’t know what to think about that… that was a lot to really put on him but his father had never been one to beat around the bush when telling him things.
Izayoi was shown, with Kaze into a large bedroom, it was beautifully decorated, and Izayoi smiled. “This...is our new home puppy.” she said gently. “What do you think...of our new place?” she asked. She didn’t know Sesshoumaru had taken it so badly.
Kaze went to the window and glanced out it. It was a wonderful room...large…but “There’s no humans here” he said turning to her. “I hope they’re nice to you mother” he told her. He wasn’t worried about himself. “It’s nice here...I guess..”
“How was Izayoi supposed to know that Sesshoumaru was walking by when she said it. “You know…” she said gently. “They won’t be nice to me...most Demons...well, most Demons don’t like humans.” she said. “And even if Toga can see me for who I am…” she said softly. “And I know this was probably traumatic for the poor boy...Sesshoumaru…” she said gently. “i don’t….I don’t want to push anything...that was never my intent.” she said gently. “If Takemaru didn’t try to...violate me that way we could still be home.” she whispered softly. “But...maybe me and his puppy can get along.” she whispered softly. “Maybe, he will be able to see that humans aren’t all bad...and perhaps...well, maybe i can...be there for him too…” she said, “Like how I adopted you…” she whispered softly.
Sesshoumaru sighed, perhaps it would have been easier if his father had explained it to him better...to be honest, he never stayed around for his long winded explanation and a little bit was never enough so it was probably both their faults. “I am not traumatised” he told her simply. “..Shouldn’t you and father focus on your relationship before you try and start something with this one?” he questioned her.
Izayoi's eyes widened. She stood up as she'd been sitting on the bed, and she looked at Sesshoumaru. "...I'm sorry." she said gently. She moved a little closer to him. "Well." she said softly. "The way that I see it, you and your father come together. Like a package deal, you are a family, just like me and Kaze are a family.” she said. “And if...our families are going to be together, the four of us...then, before I even think about being with your father, mating with him, I would wish for your blessing. Because you are more important to your father...than I ever will be, and I wish to respect that.” she told him softly.
Now that was something new to the pup. It had never been that case before… “So to you, this means father must win over your pup too” according to her logic. He never questioned that Kaze wasn’t hers. He could smell that he was full demon and that she was human but he would not point it out. It was none of his business. “And if we cannot?” he asked. Or had they only assumed that they would just get along so perfectly and it would be easy?
Izayoi smiled softly. "Yes, but your father has already done that." she said smiling at Kaze. She was so very patient. She sighed softly though. “If we can not, I will keep trying.” she said. “And if I've tried and tried, and we still can not, then...well, I will leave.” she said. But she gazed at Sesshoumaru. “But. I think that you will try to get along with me.” she said, and she didn’t explain. She moved over to her suitcase, and started to unpack.
Sesshoumaru shrugged “Maybe, as long as you are nothing like my mother, which I can already tell you are not, then we likely will” he said. He would probably just have to observe how she was, then, maybe after he did, he could see them getting along. he didn’t know how much his father had said, or really anything about the journey but he left her to unpack. He would head down to the dojo, he was curious about the other’s aura, he’d never felt anyone his age with such a strong aura.
Mika had gone down to the dojo, and she was watching the big men play with their swords and pummel each other. “They aren’t very good.” she told him when she realized he was following her. “I’m Mika.” she said. “And your army sucks.” she said. She wasn’t saying it quietly either.
“Sesshoumaru” he offered. “And we realize” he said, he wasn’t holding his voice down. They were just a bunch of brainless monkeys to him. He was curious, though, how she really knew that. “I did not know you knew so much about armies” he said. He had heard a little bit from his father but not much, just that she was a tougher girl, obviously that was an understatement.
She got up, and smirked as she went to the hanging sword wall. She grabbed one, and she smirked as she flipped it in her hand. “I practice a lot. Military everything is my specialty.” she said gently. “I know tactics, and I know that whoever made this sword, didn’t weigh it right.” she said gently. “I don’t kow, what do you know about it Sesh?” she asked.
He shrugged “Military not much” he said. “But if I can even beat them without ease you know the army is bad” he said with a smirk, he knew it riled them up. It was amusing. “I think you should show them a few things” he said. He highly doubted his father would care that she would train his men, or show them a few things. He didn’t have the will to really bother to train them, he would rather have someone else do it who would have more of a passion to.
She smirked too. Then she said “Hey!” she walked right up to them and Started to yell at them about how they wouldn’t even be able to hit her, she could tag every one of them, before they tagged her once. She teased them, it was really terrifying, they got so mad, but Mika was fast, and in that challenge, she was good on her word.
Sesshoumaru had stood out of the way, amused by the whole thing. She was pretty good! He glanced over as his father had come in.
Toga watched next to his pup, wearing a rather similar amused expression. Once the soldiers saw him there they would straighten up before bowing at him, at least the ones that weren’t engaged in combat, they were even going against her two on one and still losing against her.
Mika didn’t kill any of them, but after she was done, they were all at least unconscious. She sighed. It had been fun that was for sure, but she decided that she was now bored. She saw that Toga was there and she put the sword away. “Your army sucks.” she said. “What, these were the last men standing after the last war? Or all new recruits?” she asked.
Toga chuckled “Some old some new” he said. “But, I see you did a fine job with them” he told her. “Mika, how would you feel about toughening up the new recruits?” he asked her. He wouldn’t stick her with his experienced men, some of which, were smart enough to stay away from her when she had been fighting.
Mika’s eyes sparkled. “That would be awesome.” she said gently. “I would love to have my hand in it.” she said. She sighed, she knew that they wouldn’t listen to her though. She was a girl. She thought about it, and suddenly she altered her appearance. She looked to be a boy now, about seventeen. “This might be a better form.” she said.
Toga blinked when she altered her appearance. He wasn’t expecting her to just change appearances on him. “Yes…” he said. “That probably will work” he agreed. “I did not expect you be able to change genders...so flawlessly” he said. “What all can you do?” he asked her. He didn’t say anything of course about what he had learned earlier but that was for safety reasons.
Mika sighed. “Well, the gender thing was...part of my transformation magic. I expanded on it.” she said. “This is what I...Mika, would look like as...Mako.” she said, chuckling. “Women aren’t really...treated well here, and I wanted to be able to rule the way I wanted to...without the limitations” she said gently. “What do you mean, what else can I do?”
Toga laughed he supposed deep down she really was innocent he’d forgotten for a moment. “I mean…” well he wasn’t exactly comfortable saying it to her.
Sesshoumaru on the other hand was and he could sense what his father had meant about the situation. “Can you do everything a man can do?” he asked her. “LIke, for example, could you impregnate someone? Even a male?” that wasn’t exactly what his father was going for he was sure, but along those lines. That last bit was him just being curious.
Mika blinked at Toga. Then she blushed. "Well...I..." she sighed. "I certainly have never tried!” she said, flustered. ‘But likely I could impregnate a woman, I don’t know if I could impregnate a male...wanna try Sesshoumaru?” she teased him.
Sesshoumaru glared nastily at her. "Just because this one looks like his mother does not mean I am a girl!" he growled very sore on the subject. He did look awfully feminine from behind and because his face hadn't firmed up. It was still soft and round and he had naturally long eyelashes and his natural lid stripes did NOT help.
Toga would roll his eyes and put a hand out to make sure his pup didn’t do anything foolish. “Though, if you continue to stay like that, I know one pup you might confuse” he said with a small smirk. “You and Kaze looked so adorable sleeping next to each other” he teased. He wasn’t going to let his pup off the hook either “Though my fluffy puppy you play nice!” he was just doing it to play with them.
Mika turned back to a girl, and her face was flushing. “Sesshoumaru I don’t think you look like a girl.” she said. “And anyways, you aren’t to bad, probably will make some girl happy sometime, just not this one.” she said. Then she looked at toga. “I could eat him.” she said. It was just her way of saying that she could care for herself. no matter what he thought of her. “...Yes...I...liked Kaze.” she said.
Sesshoumaru wondered if Mika realized his father was playing? Didn’t seem that way, and instead of explaining it would stand there a moment before launching himself at his father, who of course caught him and he would growl and nip at him. “Father” he said in between his playful fighting “Aunt Asuna caught this very big buck when we went hunting!” he said, he hadn’t gotten to tell him about his day, more so confused by everything but it didn’t matter he was calmed down now. Oddly, thanks to Izayoi. “Can we go hunting again?” he asked him.
Toga smiled “I bet your aunt is good at that” he, instead of biting, was tickling his pup instead, who was laughing when he got him in good spots. “Mika! You should come -oof - with us!” sometimes Sesshoumaru managed to get good ones in and a particular knee in the chest didn’t feel quite right but he was still glad to have these moments with his son.
Mika looked at them like they were from a whole other planet. And she turned away from them when they were play fighting. She didn't want to play. "...I don't play." she said. “And I don’t hunt either.” she said. She never had. Her parents bred her to be a princess. Other than sneaking to the war room every day and learning all she could...she was a lady.
They both paused then Toga would say “Hunting is a good experience for any youkai” he said. “Even a princess” he added. “I think you should come with us, my older sister goes all the time” he said. “Even my mother” he said with that thought on the mind. HIs mother was quite the sight to behold hunting no beast was as large as her.
Mika shook her head. "Thank you for the offer, but I'm going to have to politely decline." she said. “I don’t go into my true form.” she said. “And I don’t hunt.” she repeated. “Mother doesn’t let me play or hunt.” she said.
Toga however wasn’t really talking about her true form hunting was just as thrilling in their humanoid forms. “Well, if you change your mind as your temporary guardian I will give you permission to do so” he said. Though if she didn’t want to, he wasn’t going to pressure her into it, just to let her know that she could come along if she wished. Perhaps he’d talk to Asuna, probably just from him it wouldn't’ sound quite right. “Ah, but we should go in, I smelled many delicious meats for tonight” he said as he set Sesshoumaru down. “Some..roasted things too likely for Izayoi” He wasn't really aware what sort of diet Kaze was on but they could accommodate surely. Both of them had to be hungry, they hadn’t really stopped on their journey.
Mika shook her head. "No, I do not think it's a good idea." she whispered softly. "Thank you though." she said. “I hope that you have your pup to spend time with.” she said. “I don’t like getting in the way, so I won’t.” she said. She bowed to Toga, “I suppose I could eat a little bit.” she said softly.
A little while later, during supper, they would have a small visitor. A tiny shadow would come, it was seeking out someone very special and it had found it in Asuna. It swirled about her making sure that she would know that it was there, invisible only but to her eyes to see but then it was gone in a blink of an eye. Outside there was someone waiting for her, a young shadow demon named Noel. He had long black hair and very fair skin and typical elven ears, was dressed in a traditional northern style clothing typically seen at the palace. After all, there were plenty of caves and such up there...and the dragons were, despite their reputations, very accommodating. He was being trained currently in the northern army, having a natural gift of strength. On his cheeks, very, very faintly were beautiful dark blue stripes. The only thing that remained were those bright golden eyes, typical of all Inu’s. The shadows mainly covered it up. For he was born as an Inu puppy, but the shadows stole him away from her. The poor boy, his heart was racing, he had been looking for his mother for his whole life. Ever since he found out about her.
Asuna had excused herself from the table when she saw the shadow surrounding her. She slipped outside, following the little shadow. She moved into the lovely courtyard, where she saw the boy standing. “...Hello boy. Did you need something? You called me out here...with your shadow?” she asked him. She was a strong woman, a tough woman, she was hardened by loss. But on her cheeks, two dark blue stripes.
Noel sighed how was he supposed to tell his woman she was his mother? “I did” he answered her. As he would approach the shadow moved to him and she could see all about him were little shadows. “I know...you don’t remember me” he said. “But you’re...you’re my mother” he told her. He had to be brave about this! Soldiers were strong and they didn’t let things get to them.
A flash of anger, sadness, shock crossed Asuna's face. “You must be mistaken.” she said, coldly. “All 15 of my puppies...died. Within a week of being born.” she said. “...I’m sorry.” she said. “But you’ve got the wrong woman.” she said. She looked away from him, her jaw was set. Everybody in the West knew...never to speak to Asuna about her puppies.
He could see she was upset but this didn’t stop him from getting closer to her. “No, I am not” he told her. “My...shadow parents stole me, when they were collecting my brothers and sisters” he told her. “..I stole the memories of then...you told me to let go” he said. No one would just know that information. “Perhaps...you can’t see it, we have the same markings” he told her turning his cheek, in the right light, which there was, it did look the same.
She growled, deeply. Hot tears in her eyes, which were bleeding over red. Toga would feel it, the spike of emotion, the mixed emotion that only came from somebody mentioning those puppies. “Why would you come here to find me?” she asked. “What do you want from me?” She’d been so hurt.
He sighed… “Honestly I was mad at first...I have been searching for you my whole life, I knew they were not my family” he said. “...I wanted to know why you had given me up...but I can see that’s not...not the case or you wouldn’t be so upset” after all, youkai just didn’t cry for no reason. There had to be a tremendous amount of emotional pain involved. “I just wanted to know my mother” he said. “You. My REAL mother”
Toga would come out quickly, when he felt that spike in emotions. Whoever had called her was making her upset and he really didn’t feel like rebuilding the palace if she destroyed it. However, he was not expecting to see such a young pup there about Sesshoumaru’s age he could guess, dressed in Northern clothing. What was such a young one doing there? His eyes widened when he caught the last bit of information, he was claiming to be a pup of hers!? Oh no wonder, such a sensitive subject.
Asuna blinked, her eyes were bled red, a mixture, She didn't know what to say. “...what...is your name?” she asked him, she was so, so very tense, she glanced back to Toga, then to the boy. “And what...do you want to know?” she asked.
The young demon, remained calm "They call me Noel" he said. "...Well, I don't really know" he said honestly. "I just wanted to get to know you...but look...I won’t continue to waste your time if you don’t want to see me” he said. “Lord Ryukotsusei said he would come get me if I needed him to...it is a far journey” he said. He had walked all the way there and it showed as he had smudges on his cheeks and dirt on his clothing he wasn’t good at shadow walking just yet.
She felt a pain in her heart, oh it felt so terrible for her. “Noel then.” she said. “My...my name is Asuna…” she said softly and she whispered “You don’t have to call him.” she whispered softly. “I’m just…” she sighed. “The subject of my children have never been...the last time they were brought up...I destroyed...everything in a 20 mile radius.” she said softly.
He gave a nod, he had not moved from her. Noel sighed “...Can...I touch you?” he asked her. He had the ability to mess with other demons physical appearance like making them go back into their true form, since he was so young it didn’t work on the much stronger youkai but that of course wasn’t his intention. Not this time.
She looked suddenly confused. "...touch me?" she asked. "Well, alright then." she said gently. She didn’t know what to do, she’d been an aunt...but never a mother. “Go ahead.” she said gently.
Instead of just touching her with his hands he would wrap his arms around her in a hug. It just felt so right...it made his heart race again with the feeling..like he was safe and warm for once in his whole life. He would look up at her too, he didn’t want to miss a moment of it.
She sighed gently and nodded. She saw him looking up at him. And she sighed as she pulled him into her arms, and holding him close. “It will be alright.” she whispered gently. “I...I’m sorry, this is overwhelming for me. But...I hope that you never thought I didn’t love you.” she said softly, licking his cheek, softly.
He smiled when she licked his cheek. “No...the thought hadn’t crossed my mind” he told her honestly. “They used to tell me you didn’t want me, so you gave me to them” he told her. But they had lied, he would have been a very powerful puppy indeed. “BUt I couldn’t believe them...and I can’t especially not after this” he said. “As for now...about what to do...well I obviously don’t live here..” he said. It made him sad to leave her though, like he could feel something for the first time waking up and really trying to come out. “Nn…” he made a face in discomfort, the struggle and being cooped up too long was painful for him as his eyes started to bleed red. “..what’s...happening?”
Asuna sighed. "I can travel by light." she said, it was a family thing. When he was so uncomfortable she chuckled, realizing what it was. She moved and held him close. “Your beast has been couped up a long time my pup, I assume the shadows kept it locked away, but you are not a shadow...you are a puppy.” she said. “Relax.” she said, licking at him again.
Noel looked a little freaked out by all of it, but he closed his eyes and relaxed. Once he did, his aura instantly flared into dark blue flames and in a bright burst of energy his puppy form would come out. He had lovely white fur and for once his stripings were out along his muzzle were clearly visible. He stretched and would wag his tail, a large smile on his face. He felt good, really good and so relaxed for once. “I like this form mother!” he told her.
The woman smiled. He really was her puppy. She couldn't even believe...And her lips pursed together. She wasn't in her own beast form yet, but tears came to her face and slowly, very slowly dripped down them. "Hi baby boy." she said, petting him softly. "You are an adorable pup.” she said, sniffing a bit, she couldn’t believe he was there. “We would have to leave the palace...if I went in my true form.” she said gently.
Toga, while Asuna was busy distracted by her puppy would hurry inside and grab an empty glass. Those tears could very well come in handy as they were quite rare for any demon and he was quite happy for his sister. This was most wonderful news, he didn’t say anything to anybody as he went to go collect them. “Sounds like a good idea sister” he told her as he caught the tears into the glass. “You should go spend time with your pup!”
She looked at her brother, and thwaped him. “You are an ass, taking my tears.” she hissed. Then she sighed and she picked her boy right up. “So...tell me about yourself baby boy.” she said gently. She smiled as she got into the forest, and moved to transform, she was probably 100 times his size, bigger than her little brother. She looked down at her puppy, who was still a puppy, and she pawed at him to get him in a good spot, and she started to bathe him with his tongue.
He would squirm and nip at her playfully like any pup as he looked up at her lovingly. “I’m training in the Northern army” he told her. “I’m very good at fighting mother!” he told her proudly. “I’m not allowed to go into the wars but I get to help protect the lands” he explained. “Lord Ryukotsusei said that he would postpone me having to marry anyone, if I joined, so I did” he said. “I didn’t like the girl anyways..”
She smiled as she licked on his head, his neck. "You are too young for the wars." she said. "I want my boy alive..." she said, nuzzling him. "Marry someone?" she asked. "Ah, the shadows had you sign a contract?" she asked him softly. She moved him to lay on his back, and she licked at his stomach. “You are going to be so big.” she said.
He would lay still as he let her lick his pink belly. “THat’s what he thinks too” he said. “I’ll be alright mother” he assured her, it felt so right to call her that. “Well, yes but it was ripped up right away thankfully” he said. he hadn’t really a choice in the matter. “You think so?” he asked happy at that thought. He had never thought about what his powers would be, he just thought he would have his shadow magic...never considered what he could possibly do.
'My love." she whispered softly. “You are behind now, just a little.” she cooed, still cleaning his underbelly. “I need to teach you how to fly. And to bring out your powers.” she said. “And…” she chuckled. “With the bond you have with the shadows. The power of darkness...will work wonders. My brother...your Uncle...was Poison, and your...former aunt was air...wind…” she said. “And your grandmother was fire Grandfather...water.” she said, chuckling gently. “But you and I, we hold power over darkness.” she said. As she said it, she realized, that was probably why the shadows wanted him. “And perhaps, when you are done with training with your mother, you will have my blessing to be in the army there.” she said. “We all can teleport...by turning into balls of light.” she said.
THat sounded fine to him. He would not be bottling up this form any longer! Wouldn’t Leiko be surprised when he told her, he had actually managed to track down his mother! He hadn’t been sure if he could but his shadow had felt so certain this time...and he was glad it had paid off. “Will you teach me now how to fly and do things?” he asked her, he really didn’t need to be groomed by her he felt quite ready though...it was nice to be so spoiled like that and she probably needed to do it, it was why he hadn't stopped her until then. He was very excited to start learning.
She nodded. “Very well.” she said. She picked him up by the scruff of his neck, and put him down on his four paws. ‘it’s about grace” she said, running a little ways, and then jumping into the air. “You have to envision. yourself floating.” she said gently. “Can you do that for me son?” she asked, smiling down from the place where she was flying.
He glanced up at her from the ground. He felt so small compared to the giant beauty that was his mother. “Floating” he repeated. He would run after her and leap into the air and try to envision himself floating but he’d never really felt such an experience before. There were no natural formed rivers in the flat parts of the north. In the mountains perhaps but they were far too cold to swim in. So he bit the dust pretty hard a good distance from where he had started but that was just leaping. Climbing to his paws he shook himself free of the dirt and tried again this time, getting a little bit of air before he stumbled back to the ground. “Oh! Did I do it?” It was like learning to walk for him.
She smiled softly. "Here." she said, grabbing him by the scruff and putting her atop her body. "Shut your eyes." she said. "Now I'm going to fly high up, and you, are going to jump off of me." she said gently. And she did, when they were 50 feet up she said "Now, jump, and don’t worry, I won’t let you fall.” she said. It was better than her mom throwing her off a cliff when she was learning.
He took one glance down from a top her before jumping down. At first he fell a good twenty feet too, straight down but the instinct to run was better and once he started moving did he start to fly. It was almost weightless! So that was what she had meant, he hadn’t understood it until that moment and he even glided about. The air felt almost solid in his paws then as he hurried to her side. “This is what you meant! I wasn’t really sure what floating was before” he told her honestly.
“Yes” she cooed. “That is what I meant.” she said softly. “Now, flying my love, is all about grace, you must be graceful, as if you were performing a dance with the one you care for.” she said. “Do you have someone...you care for?” she asked softly.
He had to really think on that “Well...I have a really good friend, I care for her...but no one I’m interested in as a mate” they were so young. He and Leiko did spend a lot of time together. He was trying to match her graceful movements as best he could. Wasn’t working out as well but he was still in the air. “What about you mother? Where is father?” he thought for sure he’d still be around...but she didn't mention him at all.
“Well, you are a Prince, technically, you are the heir to the west. As you were born before Sesshoumaru was.” she said. “And your other uncles and aunts had only girls.” she said. “However, I see you are fond of the north, so we won’t remind anyone of that unless you wish it.” she said. “Sesshoumaru will do good for this land.” she said. “Just as his father does.” But then her face fell. “Your father…” she said. “He...left me, after your siblings were taken to Death.” she said gently. “Said I was not a fit mother, if all my pups died, and found a new mate. He has a new family now.” she said. “But I will take you to meet him if you wish.”
He shook his head "I have no interest in that, I just wanted to see you" he said. That was all that mattered to him and if she said that Sesshoumaru would be good for the West he believed it. That was what was important. Besides, he much rather stay in the military and do his part that way. HIs eyes narrowed when she told him what his father had done. "No" he told her. “I will not see such a stupid man” he was quite angry that his father would do that to his mother, didn’t she suffer enough?
She flew close to her wobbly boy and she said “It was a political marriage anyways, we never marked one another.” she said. “I was content helping to Raise Sesshoumaru, after his mother abandoned him. Actually, your father is courting Chiyoko.” she said. “And they are talking about puppies.” she said. “Though they won’t get a thing from the West. They reside over the Islands…” she said. That was where many of the black and silver inu clans had fled to before Toga came into power, back when the lands were in chaos.
He really didn’t know who that was but he got the gist of it anyways. He felt a lot sturdier with her beside him, at least he could glide gracefully that was easy. “Good” he said. “They don’t deserve anything” he told her. “Maybe she’ll wise up and bite his dick off” he said bluntly. He’d heard of it happening, never for dogs but other such creatures. That was from the men in the army though. He knew of the islands at least, but had never been there. Western history wasn’t his specialty really. “Maybe you will find someone mother, who knows?” he said. But he was personally not planning on going anywhere far.
“Perhaps” she said. “So love, how long...are you staying with me?” she asked, ignoring the dick’ comment. She didn’t need to comment on that at all. “When do you need to be back?” she asked.
“I told them I would be gone a week” he said. So he had that long with her. “So I have that time at least...I figured it would be a good amount either way” he said. “I can help you...if there are things you need to do” he really didn’t know what she did.
Asuna shook her head. “No, you must meet your family. My mother, your cousin Sesshoumaru and uncle Toga.” she said. “His human court...ing...thing Izayoi and her puppy Kaze.” she said. “I won’t do any work at all while you are here.” she said. “I can teach you to hunt.” she said. “Sesh and I go out quite a bit.” she said. Then she sighed. She’d missed...so much. “Can you...with the shadows powers...can you talk to the dead?” she asked curiously.
Noel smiled, he didn’t mind really but if she insisted he meet the family then he would. Might as well. “I’d like that! There is always food provided, dragons don't...really hunt” not like he heard dogs did. It sounded quite fun to him. His teeth were strong though, there were plenty of bones to eat with the meat. Sure it had been odd he could eat the whole thing of meat bones and all but it felt good to him. “Yes! I can” he said. “I have lots of conversations with the dead” he told her proudly. “Some of them...are tricky and want something out of it but most are just very, very lonely”
Asuna sighed gently and said “Have you ever spoke to the other pups...that were in that litter?” she asked him softly. She just wanted to know that their spirits were okay...that they knew she loved them too. She moved to touch back down on the ground, and gave him a gentle lick. “Do you wish to go back for now?” she asked him gently. “We were eating dinner, we haven’t been gone too long Noel, if you wish to join us.” she said gently. “Puppies need to eat every day, we always sit together, even if Toga and I don’t eat.” she cooed softly.
Noel’s ears went back as he touched down with his mother. “No...I really don’t think they could approach” he said. “But, I will keep an ear out for them” perhaps now, his siblings could approach them and he, could tell them about their mother and how she missed them. “Sure, I could eat” he said. He hadn’t had a meal yet, he had forgot to pack something for himself far too jittery. “It...won’t be weird will it?” he asked her as they headed back.
Asuna shrugged. “I doubt it.” she said gently. “Toga just brought home a human.” she said. “And her pup, so there are plenty of new people around. Come.” she said, patting his head, and walking back inside where she smiled at Toga and the others. “Noel will be joining us a few days.” she announced.
Noel felt a little bit better about it at least. At least turning back had been much easier then he thought it would be. He would give them a small polite bow. He did see what his mother had meant by the odd assortment… Inus, a kitsune, a human… all sitting around enjoying a meal. He looked up at his mother to silently ask where he may sit.
She smiled and said “Sit with me, and eat whatever you wish” she said calmly. “That is my brother, your Uncle, Toga...your cousin Sesshoumaru, Toga’s...well I guess he’s courting?” she asked “Lady Izayoi, and her puppy Kaze.” she said. “And Lady Mika.” she said. “Everyone, this is my son, Noel.” she said.
He would sit beside her and give a polite nod to each one. “Nice to meet you all” he said politely. THey weren’t without their manners of course. He glanced at the table a small smile on his face “...Seems a little naked without the glittering jewels...but I suppose that is just me” he told Asuna. After all dragons liked to eat gems. “It all looks very good” he said.
Toga who of course was at the head of the table said “Are you going to take him to see mother?” he asked her. Surely the older inu would wish to meet her grandson. He wasn’t sure how much time they had to spend though so that was why he asked her.
She grumbled. “Do I haaaave to?” she asked. “Hes staying for a week, and I promised to teach him to hunt, he can already fly well...he isn’t so graceful, but he’s okay. she said with a small smirk.
He sighed “I don’t want to be on mothers bad side” he said. “If you want to keep it a secret that’s all on you but if she finds out..” he warned her. But he didn’t blame her for wanting time with her puppy. OH well it was only for a week, really what harm would come from it? “Still, I am happy for you Asuna, I haven’t seen you so lit up in a long time”
Asuna smiled and said “No Ill visit mother, she is the matriarch after all.” she said gently. “She’d probably kill me. she said. “Perhaps Sesshoumaru and you could come hunting with us. We haven’t had a family hunt in awhile.” she said, looking to her nephew.
Sesshoumaru shook his head “First time hunting shouldn’t be in a pack” he said. “Takes from the experience” he said. Besides...he wasn’t sure about being around Noel. All he would want to do was upstage him. He felt jealous. This pup comes out of nowhere and just adds to the chaos that was already there. When was there going to be time for him alone?
Asuna nodded. “you are right of course sesshoumaru.” she said. “Then it will be a trip just him and I, and we will go see mother after, and bring her our kill.” she told Toga. “Perhaps we will be back after, but I feel you might want time with your new woman and the new pups.” she said, she didn’t realize Sesh was jealous.
Toga could see that quiet look in his pup “Well, we can talk more about it” he assured her. “Perhaps there is something we could all do” he said. “Isn’t there some sort of festival coming up in the village? That could be fun to go to” that they could all enjoy. But he could agree, she needed as much time with her son as she could squeeze out before he had to return.
Sesshoumaru would get up from the table then “Excuse me” he told them as he pushed himself up and away from the table planning on retiring to his chambers for the night. Might as well. Not like he had anything better to do.
So, Asuna would take her son when they were done, and the food was cleared, she would bring her puppy out to the forests. “...I’m happy, that you are here.” she told him congly. “You know that right?” she asked him softly. “And I would like, if we could be a family...for real” she said gently. “if you must go to the North, I will go with you….you are to young love, to be without a mother.” she said.
Noel wasn’t so sure she would enjoy it in the North. It wasn’t like the West, it was cold and hard. “There isn’t as nice of things here, are you sure you wish to come?” he didn’t want to be away from her but he worried that it wasn’t as nice of a place as it was there. “It is much harder to find game and it is cold” it didn't bother him of course, the shadows prevented as such.
Asuna smiled. "I've been to the north before." she said. "I know what it is litke there." she said. "And really, from the Northern palace it is an hour flight in my true form to here." she said. If she flew quickly. “so that doesn’t matter. If you don’t want me to come, you can simply say so.” she said, raising an eyebrow, smiling at him, she just felt that he was to young to be all alone.
Noel shook his head “It isn’t that, I just don’t want you to be uncomfortable” he said. At least she knew what it was like. If it was alright with his Lord then fine. He was fine with it. “Of course I’d like you to come, I just don’t want you to feel you have to be away from this life” he said. “Sesshoumaru already seemed upset that I was here...he was practically screaming it” not physically of course.
Asuna sighed. “You could always stay with me. I don’t live at the western palace. “she said softly. “If you would rather do That, but now that you have found me...how could I let you leave?” she asked him softly, sadly.
Noel shook his head “Leiko would be so sad if I left, I can’t do that to her” he said. “We’re the only young ones at the palace and besides, she’s my only friend...I can’t just abandon her” he told her. “But I’m sure if you explained to Lord Ryukotsusei he’d let you stay” he said. He felt pretty damn sure of it...after all, it wasn’t as if they were in a war or anything.
Asuna sighed. “If that is what you wish.” she told her young son. She wasn’t going to leave him, and if she were honest with herself she’d realize that she had never really had a ‘job’ there in the West, she was just one of the female princesses...who really didn’t have a place anymore, She could go with him, if he wanted her too. “When would you like to go?” she asked.
Noel was glad she was willing to come “I’d still like to stay the week..if that’s alright with you” he told her. “Or did..you mean to your mothers?” he asked her. Honestly, he wasn't much sure about seeing the older Inu either, but he got a feeling there were more there...just no longer visible to normal eyes.
“Well, we will have to go to others, she will be angry if we don’t.” she said, and she started to lick him again! She loved licking him it seemed. “After we see her, and get you hunting, then we will go to the north...You’d better love me. she said,” laughing a little bit at that, of course he didn’t he barely knew her.
He smiled not minding that she was licking him in the least bit. “I feel...deep down I have always” he told her. While he wasn’t quite sure of it, but his beast sure did. It was like love at first sight after all. “But alright, it sounds like a plan!” he said.
The hunting trip had been fantastic, and quite a bonding experience for mother and son. Noel was a natural at hunting, even in his clumsy puppy form. But soon enough, they were before the royal Inu palace. It screamed ancient and powerful. They had brought with them a mighty bear to eat for the oldest Inu. It was a giant of a thing at least to the pup. He had not been afraid of it though, not in the least bit. “There are lots of Inus here” he remarked. After all, seeing the dead was nothing to him.
She smiled. “This was our home, for many many years.” she said. “Many have passed in this home.” she said. “Are they looking happy?” she asked him curiously. “Still being here?” she asked, before she knocked right on the door.
He nodded “They look it…” he told her glancing at the spirits. It was like nothing had changed for them..and at least with so many, they were interacting with one another. The West...had not been full of spirits… not in the least bit.
It was then that an older woman opened the door. She was formerly beautiful, but probably she was 2 or 3 thousand years old. Wrinkled skin did nothing to hide her bright blue eyes. It happened to some Inus when they got old. She didn’t look at her daughter, but straight at her grandson. “Who are you boy? And what is your business here?” she asked.
NOel would look up at his grandmother and then, behind her. An older Inu stood tall...a spirit obviously. He looked like his uncle somewhat… “I am Noel” he told her. “Your grandson” far easier to tell her then it was his own mother. “We came all this way so that we may meet” he said. Obviously in a more humanoid form he looked nothing like his mother except his markings. He hadn’t realized they were much darker now and had actually stood out on his cheeks instead of being so faded like before.
The woman rose an eyebrow. “One of the ones that were meant to be dead? WHy have you come now?” she asked curiously. “What is your name boy? “ she asked him softly. “And I see you’ve brought me a present. I do like bear. Did you kill it yourself?”
He nodded in confirmation. “I had finally learned of my real mother, so I made the trip finally to see her” he said. “The shadows had stolen me from and lied” he said. “I am Noel grandmother” he told her. “And I did!” he said. He hadn’t even gotten a scratch either. He was glad that she liked bear. “Are you happy all your family is here?” he asked her. “Grandfather says he stays with you a lot”
She rose her eyebrow. “...your grandfather has been dead many years.” she said. “I am very much alone here boy.” she said softly. “And noel? I see. Well, for a first hunt, you did well, but with bear you should go for the neck.” she cooed.
He nodded “I know” he said. “He told me he died in the first great war, along with your first son but he said he loved you too much to leave you alone, so he stays” he said. Perhaps it sounded like he was just making stuff up, but he had the gift of talking with the dead and a medium like that was generally welcome. “I’ll remember that” he told her.
She looked surprised, and then she sighed, almost smiled. “I see.” she said. “Well, tell him that surely, soon enough I will be joining him, so he needn't wait to go to the afterlife.” she cooed softly. “I love him too...very much.’ she said softly.
He tilted his head “Are you sick grandmother?” he asked her. He saw nothing about her that screamed it. “He hears you though” he assured her. “He’s waiting to guide you when you do pass on...but he is not in a hurry” he said. “At least you know he is here so you may speak to him whenever you wish. There are lots of others here too but I do not know their names”
She smiled. “Oh young one.” she said. “I am not sick.” she said. “But I am dying. I have been dying since the moment he died.” she said. She smiled, and pulled off her outer robe, where under she was wearing a tanktop. he would see that from her mating mark right on her neck, she was turning black, like she was crumbling, “It is stone.” she said softly. “Since he died, I’ve been turning to stone.” she said.
HIs eyes widened and he approached her closer, standing before her. He wasn’t afraid of that crumbling skin, he just felt awful. “I’m sorry grandmother, it looks painful” he said. “Is, it a curse?” it didn’t feel quite right but he wasn’t sure about mating marks. He glanced back at his mother wondering what she would say but his attention was quickly to his grandmother.
She chuckled. “Oh love, it is how mating marks go.” she assured him. “If someone marks another someone, they give a piece of their soul away.” she said. “And when my husband died, he killed that part of my soul as well.” she said gently. “And without that part, I will die.” she said. “It happens, lesser demons die of heart attacks...strong demons, me, your mother...you...will turn to stone.” she said.
He nodded, not the best way to go he supposed. “I see” he said softly. And all stone eventually crumbled, such a hard lesson to learn but one that needed to be done. “At least you can rest assured grandmother, that there will be many that will greet you on the other side” he said. “I am glad I got to meet you at least once” he said. “And don’t worry, I will take good care of mother…” as she too would.
She chuckled. "Oh my love he's been gone almost a thousand years." she said. “My whole body has yet to turn to stone, before I die. I’m a strong demon and will live to see your puppies as well.” she said gently. “Your grandfather will know that. That’s why he will continue to be patient.” she said, chuckling sadly. “My dear you’ve nothing to worry about for now.” she said.
He smiled, perhaps she would be around for another thousand before finally turning to stone. “That’s good” he said. He was glad he wouldn't have to say goodbye so soon. Surely, his mother and uncle would be too. He smiled, glad that she was going to be around, he certainly would like the chance to know her.
The woman took the bear, and she pulled it over her shoulder. “Well pup, come on in. she said. “Are you going to be staying with your mother here?” she asked him softly. “It would be nice...to have a puppy in the house again.” she said gently.
He shook his head “She’s going to be staying with me, I have been living in the North” he explained as he followed her. “I’ve made a really good friend there, I can’t just leave her” he said. “Unless something changes, I’d prefer to stay there”
She chuckled. “I see. “Well, your grandmother has a huge palace, and you are welcome to ask me for anything, or take any souvenirs you wish from here. It looks like I’ve missed about 100 birthdays hm?” she asked. “What can I get for you.” she asked.
He shook his head he really didn’t need anything. He had everything that he needed at the moment. It was nice of her “Thank you Grandmother” he said. “If I see anything I will let you know but I really don’t think I’ll need it. Getting to meet you all has been nice though” he said.
So his grandmother started to slice the bear so they could all sit down and have a meal together.
