Sesshomaru stood in silence as the memories played out in his mind. First, one that she had pulled from the depths of his own mind. Second, one of hers and the third he assumed was one of her mothers that had been planted there by this Mizuki. When the vision finally faded he retrieved Bakusaiga from the ground and sheathed it. His instincts were telling him that it really was her but he had spent too many years convinced that she was dead for him to let it go so easily. The visions that she had showed him had already told him what kind of hanyou she really was but he still couldn't see it or smell it. There should be physical traits that would give her away to those that could not sniff it out, much like InuYasha did. It would have taken very powerful magic to hide the true nature of the beast that lived inside her. "Remove it." He damanded.
"Remove what?"
"Whatever magic you are using to cower behind." The smell of fear hit him so hard that his stomach rolled. She appeard to be having some kind of internal struggle. It was a waste of time to avoid the innevitable so he pushed harder. "What are you so afraid of Sakura? If it is indeed really you then you shuld have not have any reservations about showing this Sesshomaru who you really are."
Sakura knew that he not being unreasonable in his demand. After all, he had thought her dead for too long for him not to question her existence now. She wasn't afraid of him. Somehow, she knew that he would never actually harm her. She was, however, afraid of those that would see her dead to lay claim to her powers."Sesshomaru. You do not know the consequences of what you ask of me. Once it is done, I cannot undo it." She feared that she was not going to have a choice, but she hoped that he would not force her to do this.
"This Sesshomaru cares nothing about the consequences. I said remove it."
"Fine."

"Kohaku. Do you really think that he is okay?"
Kohaku had finally managed to get Rin give her traning a rest for the day. They had been going at it hard, both needing the distraction after their earlier escapade and they had finally settled on the forrest side of an old tree. Rin was currently resting up against his chest, her legs crossed setting inbetween his, but it wouldn't last long if Sesshomaru didnt show up soon. It was almost nightfall and he had never benn quite this late before. "Sesshomaru is a Inu-Youkai whose power is beyond comapre Rin. I have no doubt that he has simply been delayed." She harumphed, causing him to laugh and he settled for another method to settle her worry. He pulled the great mass that was her hair over to one side and proceeded to nibble on that delectable little ear of hers.
"Kohaku!?" She tried to pull away from him but he had his arm wrapped around her midsection, holding her firmly in place. "What if someone sees?"
"I have a sword. I promise they will never be able to tell a single soul."
She knew he was just kidding with her but she gave his thigh a warning slap anyway."Why don't you tell me a story, like you used to on the shard hunt."
He sighed but decided that as long as she stayed in his arms, he would tell her any story she would like to hear." How about a love story?"
"I like love stories."
"This is a story about a brave youkai warrior and his human mate. Many centuries ago, a young woman became lost after traveling too deep into the woods behind her village home. The young womans name was Rukia and it was said that, like someone else I know, she had a very adventurous spirit. Now, it wasn't the first time that Rukia had gotten lost in the woods but there had been some recent bandit attacks on her village and she was afraid that in the dark, she might accidentally stumble upon one of their campsites. It just so happened that a great Youkai warrior by the name of Tsubasa had been scouting the area for enemies."
"Did he find Rukia and guide her back home." Rin squeeked.
He thumped her lightly against her cheek and then placed a swift kiss in the same spot."Would you let me tell the story please?"
Rin blushed and appologized "Gomen Kohaku. Please continue."
"Anyway, Tsubasa had smelled her fear in the air and of course, came to her rescue. What had surprised him however, was her lack of fear when it came to standing face to face with a full-blooded youkai. Instead of shying away from him, she openly asked him for help and simply offered her hand in friendship. Tsubasa took it and lead her safely back to her village but asked if she would meet him again the following night at the same spot where he had found her. She laughed and told him that she would love to if she was able to find it again. He told her that it was no matter to him, that he would always find her if she became lost."
"How wonderful." Rin sighed, making Kohaku smile. "They continued to meet there for many months and it wasn't long until they fell deeply in love but they had a big problem."
"He was youkai and she a human." Rin stated simply.
"Exactly. Actually according to the myth, they were the first to even try mating outside of their own respective species. At this time in history it was extremely taboo for a youkai and a human to even be intimate with each other, let alone become mates."
"Were they like InuYasha and Kagome? Did they imprint on each other?"
"They were. There love for each other transcened everything and for a long time they were able to avoid many of the dangers that sought them but they were unable to run forever. Come to think of it Rin, this story doesn't really have a happy endng. Would you like me to tell you something different?"
"No. I want to know what happened to them."
Kohaku continued. "Tsubasa and Rukia eventually had a family, four children, two boys and two girls. Their little ones were their best kept secret for neither the humans or the demons had yet to discover them. But the couple knew that their time was short and it wouldn't be long before the Youkai and humans actually began to work together to destroy them and they were unsure of how to protect their children. One night, after a long battle, Tsubasa and Rukia came home to find four Kami standing above their children. Not wanting them to be afraid, the Kami explained that they were their to offer a way to save their children. What they offered was something that had never been done before."
"What was it?" Rin asked.
"A blended soul."
"What's that?"
"Basically, the kami's offered to give a piece of their soul to each of the children. They also offered to watch over them until they were old enough to venture out on their own should Tsubasa and Rukia fall."
"How can two souls or pieces of souls live within the same body?" Rin asked.
"Well, from what I gather in the legend, the part of the soul that the kami's gave resided more like and instinct than a seperate soul. It blended perfectly with the demon and the human that were already part of the hanyou children. What the kami's had offered had finally given Tsubasa and Rukia hope that their children would be able to live on and so they accepted. So the Kami's Chikyu, Kaze, Kasai, and Mizu (earth, wind, fire, and water) each placed a piece of their soul inside the children. It would be passed down through Tubasa's bloodline, to always protect and defend, unless given away freely to a worthy soul."
"Did Tsubasa ad Rukia die?" Rin sniffled and Kohaku fet bad for having mad her cry.
"They did. Not long after that night, but their children lived on." He turned her so that she was facing him and kissed away the tears from her cheeks."It's just a story watashi no ai (my love), please don't cry."
Rin forgot all about her tears as Kohaku's lips met hers in a searing kiss.
