A/N
Hello ,Just to address a few concerns.. I finished editing my chapters I understand its was a bit hard to follow in terms of when Kagome was thinking or actually speaking in the beginning, I put italics for thoughts and only used quotations when the character is speaking to differentiate between thought and speech
In terms of the storyline its very simple it will take awhile for this story to build up in terms of romantic interaction between Kagome/Sess or Kag and /Inu taisho. Thus far I am focusing on Japanese etiquette and rituals this is mandatory for the fic because the Imperial Family are very customary and the emperor and his household in ancient times followed strict code of conducts

Glad thats over with! Kagome thought with a long sigh.
She was releived that she had past the first ritual--the empress had been very intimidating. She followed the trail of concubines behind Bankutso the head attendant. Bankutso had gathered the prospects after the Sado tea ceremony, it was his duty to escort each one of the young women to their seperate sleeping quarters. It was almost sundown in the palace and Kagome could hear the crickets singing off in the distance.
"This palace sure is grand" exclaimed one of the prospects. She was a petite tiger youkai with slightly olive skin-- slanted orange eyes and chestnut hair--which was shoulder length and held a wavy texture in it. It framed her heart shaped face oddly yet exoticly.
"Yes it is" Ayame the red head wolf youkai responded smoothly."I wonder how long the audition is, or when we will be introduced to the Tenno" The wolf was not anxious at all where meeting the royals were concerned. She simple needed to know the timeframe for her stay here, she was not happy she got chosen to audition in the palace proceedings.
Bankutso stopped suddenly to address the womens concern.  "Young mistresses,Do not fret you will meet the emperor and the rest of his household very soon .In fact the next task will be from the emperor himself so he will be present at the next assesement."
"Excuse me Bankutso-sama" Kagome interupted also. She too was curious of many things though she remained silent in hopes that another would introduce her concerns.
"I too am curious about the duration of the audition.I was not briefed on alot of the formalities and well Im not from a prestigous household. I am not sure what the expectations are". The onna did not worry over the loss of being chosen. Rather she hoped that she would be dismissed after this assement. She however worrried over the reputation of her father , although he was a merchant she still had his honour to uphold.
"The emperor is very busy with ruling the nation", Bankutso replied formally. "Fortunately he has his sons to share in his burden. Kaede sempai and court lady Sango- san will address any concerns you may have. "
"I am a male attendant I am not to meddle in the affairs of the inner chambers. Please use temperance young ladies when making queries. The duck that quacks all the while is the first to get shot." Bankutso chanted politely.
Taking his words to sudden offense the wolf demoness eyed the servant angrily.
The duck? Is HE implying that I Ayame will get reprimanded for my pure inquries? Flustering angrily the wolf marched towards the attendant. She would not allow a lowly to servant to put her down--regardless of his station in the palace. She was afterall of a higher rank so she deserved respect.
"Who do you think you are. Do you know who I am--? I am Ayame Suki sister to Imperial General Koga-sama.How dare you quote Budda's precepts to me like I am some --some commoner." she snapped irrtabily. Flicking her fan she glared at him awaiting an apology.
"And"-- Pointing her fan at him angrily she opened her mouth as if to reprimand him further She knew her temperment was not the best, she had managed to conceal it in front of the empress but here she didnt see the need to.
"Forgive me Lady Ayame that was not my intent".Bankutso said suddenly. Bowing slightly he hoped to compliment her anything to get the wolf to cease her anger. As the head attendant there was not much the female wolf could do .He had served the Royals for years and was in favour with the emperor.
However further trouble was always wise to avoidAt the mention of the imperial general though his heart had faltered.
He could have his head anyday he held a great amount of power.
"I am sure you are well verse in Budda's statures. It is just as well because the Tenno himself speaks in Buddas many parabbles. Your wisdom will surly reign supreme in this aspect and impress his majesty." Bankutso added slyly
"Well of course it will!" Ayame the wolf youkai retorted flustered . She was not that well versed in the Shinto proverbs unbeknowst to the servant however she had half hoped his compliment was for good measure.
With a clicking of her wooden sandals she made her way towards Kagome who had stood silently observing the two thoughtfully.
After leading each concubine to their residence Bankutso escorted the onna cautiously throughout a hidden pathway.
She was not certain as to why her residence was far off unlike the other women. She didnt pay it much mind however, partly because she didnt think the Gods would chose her anyways.
"Here we are  this will be your temporary resisdence for the duration of the audition Kagome. Kaede sempai will dispatch maids to attend to your every need. Court lady Sango-san will breif you on your daily tasks and concerns in the morning.
"Rest easy may the Kamis grant you your fate" Bankutso said formally before retreiving, leaving the onna to enter her quarters curiously.

Gyokusai was written in an ancient style atop the small resisdence that temporarily housed the human onna. Observing the name thoughtfully she entered the quarters. Blue orbs darting about anxiously taking in her quarters.
The imperial family surely lacks no details.How did they know that I like the shade pink and purple or vanilla cedarwood incense. Inhaling deeply at the fragrances that floated around her she observed the detailing of the large purple gold incense burner. It was exquisitely made with crystals and what looked like fragments of jade pieces. It was an odd luxury added to the simplicity of the quarters.
The interior of the place had been designed with modest colours blue, auburn and pink. It held a large futon which was layered with purple silk sheets along with a thick white and red satin blanket. Two chestnut trunks sat at the sides for any attire.
A low wooden table along with two wooden stools occupied the small tea area. Jaded tea kettles ,cups and and another incense burner sat at the foot of the large strawed tatami mat. A shoji screen separated a vanity area which housed a long bronze mirror ,jaded stool and a small bath area.
It looked quite plain it was nothing she expected. She didnt know what the imperial harem looked like but to her this seemed far fetched. However the lack of finesse it was better than anything she had back in the Edo village. It reminded her of home--he simplicity of the place was appreciated.
Mhmm...this is the best Ive had it in a long time.Kagome thought contently ,I wonder how father's doing. Am I allowed to write him during the audition? What did that attendant mean by the duck that quacks is the first to get shot. Breifly pondering upon the nights interruption she she removed her slippers and collasped atop the futon.
"Oh well I guess ill figure it out tomorrow" she mumbled sleepily. Her mind was not coherent enough to discover any intent of the meaning. Tomorrow was another day--swould delve into infinite knowledge then.

Empress Kimiko's Private Chambers
Empress Kimiko retired to her large quarters ,it was located on the western entrance alongside the emperor Touga's .Exhausted she disrobbed her kimono and slipped into her sleeping yukuta. "Kaede fetch me a basin with warm rose water and some ginger root tea--do not  forget to burn the incense" she added as she sat on the jade stool facing her vanity bronze mirror.
"Crown Prince arrives ,Crown Prince arrives" sang one of the palace attendants outside the shoji screen doors.The attractive inu stood outside his mothers screen door. It was late and usually he would discuss matters at the break of dawn however tonight he was not happy with what the hanyou revealed to him earlier on.
Upon her beckoning he irritabily brushed pass the rabbit attendant whom opened her inner shoji door hastily.
"Mother I seek an audience for I have a matter to discuss with you"Sesshomaru voiced smoothly
"To what do I owe the honour my filial son". Kimiko sang turning to acknowledge the infuriated male before her."
"Mother what exactly are your intentions? The half breed has informed me of your ambitions earlier on regarding choosing a concubine for this one. Why do you insist on taking matters into your own hands!" Sesshomaru barked eyeing the woman wearily .
It was not the first time she took matters concerning him into her hands. He was tired of her intrution. Mother or not he was determined to remove her from her post in the future if she should continued on-- when he became emperor.
" Dearest" Kimiko chimed softly."It is my role as the empress and as your mother to invest in your future. You are next in line for the throne and you have yet to show interest in any particular female!The court is beginning to suspect that you are well--fond of men---amongst other   things and I will not tolerate this humiliation any longer!" She barked as she rose from her stool and faced him angrily.
"Males--" Sesshomaru was stunned at such an accusation. He would have accepted anything they thrown at him but this was ludicrous.The audacity of the court.
"This one is not captivated by men, mother who dares to spread such blasphemy!" Sesshomaru replied smoothly .Though composed upon receiving such an insult his query implied he would kill the one whom speaked so recklessly of him.
"It is of no importance now", Kimiko retorted sharply ."I have pressed the importance of using the harem provided to you in the past in order to pacify the rumours and you have neglected my advice. The half breed has even made use of his concubine and the imperial physician had just confirmed that she is with child! "
"Although Inuyasha does not surpass you in pedigree or status-- Still I will not allow him this advantage! I suggest you leave this task to me. Let me choose a concubine for you. You will not be dissapointed ."
" And--" she added quietly ." I will take care of the unborn child". Touching her son reassuringly she awaited his reaction.
"Mother" Sesshomaru said releasing her hand swiftly.  "Do not become reckless,hurting an imperial child is treason .
"Not even I can spare you from fathers wrath if you continue with this. I will leave this other burden to you  however--" He added smoothly. "This one does have a preference regarding a chosen"
Turning to leave he decided to leave the rest to her own devices. She was persistent so she would eventually discern his last statement
Preference...Kimiko thought curiously as she watched her son departure towards her outer screen doors.
Well sake will tell a tale.  Her mind chanted cunninly. One way or the other she would get an answer

Empress Kimiko isnt as nice as she appears to be and why is Kagome staying in the Shattered Jade quarters...can it somehow be connected to the previous Imperial concubine demise....
