Kagome has to admit that just jumping into the well as she had isn't the best of ideas. Her arms are full with her new weapons, meaning she won't be able to use the ivy to climb out, and that damn hair is still blocking the mouth of the well. She's startled by the sudden glow that comes from the ground and quickly presses against the side of the well just as Hiei appears where she had been standing. He immediately looks at her, and then within a blink of her eyes he has an arm around her waist and they're sailing upwards. "No! Wait!"
Kagome's sudden outburst halts their ascension halfway up, where Hiei grips at the mass of vines growing on the walls of the well and he gives her an irritated look. "Is there a particular reason why we cannot jump out?"
Kagome quickly nods and looks up above them where the hair is almost fully out of the well. "The hair is still being pulled out," she softly says. Below them comes another glow, and then Kurama is there, a look of wonderment on his face. It quickly turns to surprise when he looks up and sees Hiei midway up the well holding onto Kagome. "Kurama-san?" She twists slightly in Hiei's grasp, causing him to grumble slightly before tightening his hold on her a little more and looking down to see the kitsune. "You might want to step aside… Or come join us up here. We're waiting for the hair to finish retreating."
Kurama looks thoughtful for a few seconds then with his whip still in hand the kitsune jumps up past them and lashes out at the open space of the mouth of the well with it. Skillfully twisting it so that it makes a full circle around the edge of the mouth of the well, he continues up and out of the well, with Hiei finally following after. Not a second later there is another glow from the well, indicating that InuYasha has finally come through. "So, what is this hair you mentioned?" He asks once InuYasha joins them, though the hanyō stands a fair distance away from them.
"Before I came back to our time I had come across a yōkai. She called herself Sakasagami no Yura, and she controls hair. She stole the Shikon no Kakera I had on me." Kagome hadn't given the yōkai much more thought after her tumble back through the well and into her time. Still, that Yura is still after her and most likely InuYasha, so it is a little surprising. Maybe it has something to do with their hair, which isn't surprising at all. Looking around, she grips her two new weapons tightly and steps closer to Kurama.
"Hn?! Hey, wait… It's been stolen?!" InuYasha exclaims, causing the other two yōkai to mentally roll their eyes while Kagome timidly nods. The inu hanyō looks like he wants to move closer and strangle Kagome, but he wisely refrains from doing so with the other yōkai present.
"Nevermind about the stupid Jewel, that awful hair is back!" She points up at where the mass is, writhing in midair, and many individual strands are stretching out over the clearing, making it a deadly accident waiting to happen. "Everyone move!" She pulls away from Kurama and starts moving across the clearing.
"If we follow the hair to the source then we can kill Yura," Kurama states calmly as he follows after her, his whip coiled and ready in case it is needed.
Kagome nods in understanding and turns to look at the hair that is all around them. After a few precious seconds, she smiles when she realizes that there are a few glowing strands. "This way!" She takes off, her pace sedate, and her steps cautious as she leads them into the forest that surrounds the well's clearing.
After an hour or so, and they are deep in the forest where it is starting to get darker, Kagome finally sees a campfire up ahead of them. Eager to have some actual light, she is about to quicken her pace when Kurama gently puts a hand on her shoulder. His touch is there for only a second, but it is enough to make her stop. "Huh?"
"The scent of blood is heavy in the air, Higurashi-sama." Human blood at that. Kurama doesn't know all that has happened to her for the time she had been here prior, and though it is silly of him, because they are in Sengoku Jidai of all places, he doesn't want her to see anything unnecessary.
Kagome stares at him for a moment, processing what he said and what it means, then smiles weakly. "Carnage is going to be an almost daily thing, Kurama-san, but thank you for thinking of me, and please… Just Kagome is fine." The same applies to Hiei as well, and she even glances his way to indicate as much. He is paying her no mind, however, his cardinal red gaze scanning the surrounding trees.
"Oh… As you wish, Kagome-san." Kurama too glances over at Hiei before moving forward with the miko into the small clearing in the trees with the campfire. Hiei has indeed noticed the look she gave him and knows that her request also applies to him, but whether Hiei uses her given name or not is… Well, there is a high chance of him using it. After all, he had willing picked Kagome up to help her out of the well.
Kagome covers her mouth at the sight of the bodies caught in the hairs—dismembered as well as decapitated. She doesn't have to get any closer to the corpses to realize that they are humans. Her gaze darts around to the threads, now coated and dripping with the blood of the men that had unfortunately been trying to pass through the area before settling on the bodies. She notices that one of them has a quiver of arrows, which hadn't been included with her bow for whatever reason but her hands are practically full, however, and she doesn't have anything to secure her sword to her hip with… Unless there is something in her new bag! "Um… Kurama-kun, would you please hold these real quick?" She holds the sword and bow out to him, which he silently and thankfully takes.
Hiei and Kurama both notice that the yōki in the sword reacts, albeit briefly, to the kitsune's touch before it settles and seems to slumber. This slight distraction isn't enough to keep their attention off of Kagome, however, who slips a strap of her backpack off and opens it to look for something. Whatever she is looking for she seems to find rather quickly, for her expression brightens and she pulls an obi out of the bag and ties it around her waist. While it looks silly, what with the sweater and jeans she is wearing, it will serve its purpose in keeping her katana secure. Said katana is taken back from Kurama and at that point, Hiei comes over to Kagome.
"Your katana is an uchigatana type blade, so you wear it cutting edge up," Hiei informs her and then motioned to his katana before showing her which layer of the obi it is inserted through. "Next, you take the sageo and tie it to your obi, and that will help keep your katana secured at your hip. As you are right-handed, it should be secured to your left hip." Hiei watches as she carefully follows his instructions, and though it is tied to the obi a bit awkwardly it is enough for now.
"Thank you, Hiei-san." Kagome gives him a grateful smile, though he merely gives her a soft 'Hn' and keeps walking towards the source of the hair. "Thank you, Kurama-san, for holding my weapons." She closes her backpack up and takes the bow back before going over to the corpse with the quiver and collects the much-needed equipment and the arrows it holds.
"Did you notice that their heads are missing, Fox?" Hiei asks as Kurama leads Kagome in his direction.
"I did. Thankfully Kagome hasn't noticed… Curious... Maybe this Yura uses the hair of the heads she takes?" It makes the most sense, but as to why the hair can't be seen by anyone but Kagome? Is it perhaps masked under an illusion of some sort?
"You seem rather concerned about her, Fox." Hiei's tone is more teasing than it is accusatory, which baffles the kitsune. This sudden turnabout in him is more than obvious, and Kurama is still trying to figure out just when it had occurred, let alone why.
"You've been acting quite differently, Hiei. You willingly picked Kagome up and carried her out of the well. You're also being more than nice to her." He knows it is better to not delve, but dammit, it is rather unfair especially with Hiei making allusions to something he isn't sure of. A hand suddenly pops up in front of his face, effectively startling him, and he grasps it delicately. Glancing down at Kagome, who has a faint blush on her cheeks, he quickly lets go of her hand and gives her a sheepish smile. "I apologize, Kagome-san. I was lost in thought."
"Oh, I'm sorry! It's just… We're almost there." Kagome lowers her voice to a whisper and her grip on her bow is a bit tighter. "There's hair all over the place."
"Keh. If we take the bitch out then all of that hair will go with her," InuYasha comments from behind them, and when they turn to look at him they see that he has his arms folded over his chest.
Kurama frowns at the inu hanyō's choice of words but otherwise says nothing. The stubborn Inu isn't going to easily change his ways, and it is pointless to otherwise try getting him to do so. "It may not be as simple as taking her out."
"Whatever you say, fox boy. I'm gonna go ahead and kill her, so step back." And with that InuYasha leaps out into the open, though they aren't hidden from Yura as swaths of hair immediately try attacking them.
Kagome grabs Kurama's hand and pulls, moving him out of the way of a swath of hair that strikes where he'd been standing. "Let's just keep moving!" She leads him out after InuYasha, though Hiei isn't anywhere to be seen, and finds that InuYasha is caught up in Yura's hair. Beyond him, suspended high in the air is a massive ball of hair. Yura's nest. "Is this where she's hiding? In a ball of hair?" she murmurs, sounding a little disgusted at the sight of all that hair.
"Kagome… This is most likely her nest. If that is true, then she can't be killed by normal means. I'm sure that there is something in her nest that is keeping her alive. If you find it and destroy it, it would mean the end for her. Go, and I'll try to help InuYasha." Kurama explains in a whisper. They can't see the hair, but Kagome can, so she is the only one that can stop Yura. Kagome nods and discreetly makes her way over to one of the masses of strands connected to the ball of hair.
"Oh, my." A voice calls out, and a slim figure descends in front of where InuYasha is held captive. "What splendid prey I've caught," Yura smirks to herself as she observes the inu hanyō, her red gaze lingering on his silver hair. "You're InuYasha, aren't you?" Such a magnificent specimen of hair.
Thankfully, Kurama chooses this moment to interrupt, slicing through the restraints that are invisible to him, which draws a surprised cry from Yura. "Pardon me, miss, but it's polite to introduce oneself first."
Yura's eyes snap to the form of the silver kitsune and her eyes widen at the sight of him. Shock flits across her face but it is quickly replaced by a calculating gleam. "Such beautiful hair, the both of you," she mumbles, ecstatic that it will all belong to her once she gets the both of them properly secured.
"I don't need your help, fox boy," InuYasha grumbles from where he lands in a crouch and stands up, rubbing at his wrists. "I can take care of her myself."
"Oh? You, finish off me? You might have gained quite a reputation for yourself among the oni, but a silly puppy like you couldn't kill me." Yura laughs and raises her left hand, manipulating a swath of hair to attack InuYasha. With her right, she sends another swath of hair after Kurama. "And you, kitsune… Sakasagami no Yura will have your beautiful hair."
InuYasha growls and leaps at Yura, piercing a hand through her chest. The swath of hair that had been sent after him catches up and binds him once more, and Kurama who hadn't managed to dodge his own is lifted to join the inu hanyō. Meanwhile, Yura merely laughs and removes herself from InuYasha's arm.
There is a strange hissing noise that fills the air and then, suddenly, a girlish scream comes from the direction that Kagome has gone. Everyone's attention shifts to the girl who has climbed up the mass of hair and has somehow burned a hole into the side of the ball of hair, releasing over several dozen heads. Kagome is clutching an arrow in her hand, and there is a pale pink glow coming from the arrowhead, showing that her miko powers are infused into the arrow. Whether knowingly or not, it has worked.
Yura, now pissed off that her nest is damaged, pulls out a comb and raises it. "You damaged my nest!" Well, it doesn't matter so much now that she will be adding such wonderful quality hair to it, which will no doubt strengthen it several times over. However, she can't let the girl remain up there, because she is so very close to destroying what keeps her alive. "It won't matter, once I add their hair to my collection, but you can burn for all I care!" With a sweep of her comb she sends flames towards Kagome, and satisfied that the girl is taken care of she turns her attention back to InuYasha and Kurama. "She'll be burned down to the marrow of her bones thanks to my Oni-Bi Gushi… No one can save you now."
