"You can't be speaking seriously..." a nervous laughter sounded from Annabelle's lips "not after everything we've been through". She slid a hand over her forehead.
"Everything what?" Naraku asked as if the past events were so insignificant that his memory failed. "Are you mentioning our moments of profligacy?" He smirked "Ah, yes, they were delightful indeed".
"Are you punishing me because of what I did for Kagura?!" In only one step she made herself close to him again.
"If I wanted to punish you for that, I would have reaped your life in my castle" he said calmly.
"So what is it? Did you come here to say you'll leave me in the forest with this bag, while you go away like nothing ever happened?" Anna kicked the package carrying her clothes. Her heart was racing so fast that Naraku could listen it's beats inside his head.
"Don't you misunderstand me, it was an interesting experience, but my curiosity has been satisfied, you have fulfilled your role. Therefore, now you may go" The hanyo lifted his hand, indicating the woods' way.
"You're unbelievable!" After grunting, she slapped his shoulder then tried to push him, yet his rigid body barely moved. "After everything we've been through, you come with this bullshit to me?!"
"After everything we've been through?" He chuckled "And what exactly was that, Annabelle Rose? Do you happen to think we are in love?"
Before answering, the Scottish lass considered it silently. There were so many sensations inside, confusing her, that she couldn't find words to describe her feelings to the arachnid. Her hands asked to hit his face, not to dedicate him any affectionate gesture.
"If we are not in love, what is it then?" at last, Anna answered with another question.
"Just an illusion, an useless illusion which I had took everything I wanted for" He maintained the unbearable nonchalance.
"Liar!" She shouted, her voice overcame his own. "I don't know what this is, but it's intense and unavoidable, and I know you feel it as well!" Her palm hit against his chest.
"This intense feeling is nothing but a fantasy, Annabelle. A fantasy implanted inside you by the jewel shard you carry in your chest. All we feel for each other is physical attraction, nothing more" he patiently explained.
"If what you feel for me is merely a physical attraction, you could have escaped, leaving me at Kaze no Kizu's mercy, and I would have died alone" She argued, holding his fluffy collar. His lips discretely contorted under the mask.
"As soon as I take this shard off, you will be free from this feeling" the fact he didn't fight against her hypothesis made Annabelle insists on being attached to her belief.
"You coward" she shook her head negatively. "You are scared".
"Scared? Ku, ku, ku, don't be ridiculous, woman" He mocked. "Take your things and go!"
"You are afraid of feeling, because to feel hurts, I know it very well, for I feel this pain myself" Her fingers dropped from his collar, releasing him. "I should have guessed, it's so typical of you wanting to run when things get complicated, when you cannot fully understand what is happening." Suddenly, her angry features turned strangely calm, yet her eyes showed severity into their blueness, locked with his.
"It is you who doesn't want to understand the obvious, Annabelle Rose, you have been used by Naraku" The Baboon's voice was deep and straight, never shaking. "Now, get your things and go, before I change my mind and kill you right here".
"I challenge you to do so" Her face got near to his "Kill me then".
Stupid human! The true Naraku, already in his castle, sitting against a wall inside his room, was watching that argument between Annabelle and his puppet through Kanna's mirror, and he cursed in his thoughts. Her irreverent behaviour brought back some memories of a distinct priestess whose he wasn't able to kill.
"You're so..." Anna proceeded, and the hanyo imagined what would probably come after she bit her lower lip. It must be a curse of any kind, like she said to him many other times, yet the offense was: "human!"
You are so human - Anna nailed it, she couldn't have offended him in a worse manner.
The Baboon's hands caught her shoulders, cornering her against the tree, nevertheless, Annabelle didn't get intimidated.
"You despise my kind because you believe we are merely emotional beings, that our hearts are easily softened, but in my whole life, in everywhere I had wandered through, most of the people that I've met were greedy, selfish, arrogant and prejudiced!" She said eloquently "They thought so much of accumulating richness and titles that they forgot to feel any sympathy for the others, and when they would occasionally see themselves feeling affection for someone, they would run from this feeling like little frightened puppies!" Her voice's volume increased gradually. "No, you are not different from the beings of my kind, Naraku" and she laughed, arid as a desert "in fact, you couldn't represent it better!"
A greenish tentacle slipped through his pelt, from it's collar, and approached the foreigner's chest, where laid the jewel shard.
"I told you, and I meant it. You had a chance, one and only" The lass kept talking, while staring at him "If you leave me here because of your childish fears, it's over. I won't let you hurt me not a single time again!" At last, her voice cracked, shaking a bit, as she was hardly swallowing her bitterness down.
"Farewell, Annabelle" in a low timbre, the hanyo answered, and then the red-haired woman couldn't see his eyes behind the mask anymore.
At the moment when the tentacle touched her bosom and tried to reach the Shikon's shard, the whiteness of her energy just consumed and purified it, turning that appendage into dust. However, before the puppet completely disappear, through that tool the real spider could hear her sayings:
"You are incapable of saying goodbye in person, such a coward you are. You deserve to die alone and forlorn, torn into pieces by Inuyasha's sword!" and that sentence wounded Naraku more than he could ever imagine. His hands closed into fists, ruby eyes narrowed.
"Kanna" after a long sigh, he addressed to the girl in front of him. "Did you go fetch him?"
"Yes, while Inuyasha was still at the former castle, I went to the village" she told emotionlessly.
"Good. Now you may leave, I wish to be alone" the hanyo demanded roughly.
The little albino yokai gracefully twirled on her heels and walked towards the door, as quiet as she ever has been. Naraku secretly envied her emptiness, in that instant what he wanted the most was to be filled by the same nothingness that composed Kanna. However, although the spider had the power to create a soulless being, his own soul apparently was a burden he would always be obliged to carry.
When he thought at least it would be possible to appreciate a bit of loneliness, the door slid open. Naraku's eyes captured a woman wearing a western dress, so his heart tricked him, making he see vast ginger curls instead of black, inducing him to believe she has returned and for a few seconds he felt breathless. Then, reason came back to it's place and his eyelids sealed for a while, when they opened, he finally saw who really was the intruder.
"Kagura, tsk!" Naraku rubbed his eyes, then turned his face to the opposite side "These clothes do not suit you. I command you to dress your former kimono".
"You big jerk!" She yelled, entering abruptly in his chamber. The Wind Sorceress' behavior bewildered the castle lord so much that he glanced at her with widened eyes.
"Did you lose the sense of danger, slave?" Naraku got up, and though he was quite irritated, a morbid smirk darkened his semblance.
"You have disposed yourself of the only living creature in this earth who felt any affection for you!" She maintained her voice high, shouting the accusation. "Your ability to sabotage yourself is really impressive!"
"Get out of my room before I decide to chain you in the basement again" He warned in a low tone, his smirk was a bit smaller.
"Why did you do that, Naraku?!" Was it sadness mixed with rage on such inquiry?
To hell with it, all he wanted was that crimson lips to be shut once and for all. Therefore, the hanyo turned one palm up, his arm lifted into her direction. Kagura instantly realized what should follow from there, her heart materialized, pumping frantically into her tormentor's hand, and his fingers squeezed it, merciless. She fell on her knees, contorting herself as Naraku kept pressing that vital organ and then loosened the grip for a while, just to tighten his hold once again, torturing her. His dense youki revolved around the room. Kagura's sight blurred and her body leaned ahead, her cheek collapsed against the floor.
This is the end of me. She was certain. Yet, the pain suddenly ceased. One of her scarlet globes opened and contemplated the spider silent hanyo already on his back. Her heart disappeared from his touch.
"I don't want to hear not a single word about Annabelle anymore. Do you understand?" He gazed her, his vicious eye glimmering over his shoulder.
"Yes" sadly resigned, Kagura assigned.
"Leave, later I shall decide how to punish you for your insolence" Naraku commanded.
The Wind Sorceress, even feeling the pain running inside her whole being, rose up and left him alone with his ghosts. The hanyo sat again, then he lowered the sleeves of his kimono, threw his velvet curls in front of his shoulders and rested a hand upon his nape. The Spider Scar felt incandescent.

Miroku, Sango and Shippo rode Kirara and went to the village nearby to look for Kohaku. Meanwhile, Kagome and Inuyasha remained on the landscape where once Naraku's castle has been. Now, everything they could see was a vast desert territory, with a single flowered tree resisting in the middle. The girl from the future got near to it's trunk and touched the wood. The Inuhanyo, on it's turn, was staring at the sky unceasingly, a crescent rage burned into his golden gaze.
"She helped Naraku, she is his ally" Inuyasha concluded "and for her sake I lost the chance to finish that bastard for once!" he hit the earth with his sword.
"Inuyasha, Annabelle isn't a bad person." She sighed, looking depressed. "I feel sorry for her".
"Sorry? I am pissed, very pissed!" He spat. "When I arrived in here, that jerk seemed to be trying to kill her, and still that dumb wench protected him! I don't understand!"
"I do, pretty much." She walked to him, the hanyo was on his back. "Anna loves Naraku".
"Keh! How stupid!" He laughed in disbelief "How could any person love someone who wants to hurt them? Naraku would kill her!"
"Kikyo tried to kill you sometimes, did you forget?" She stopped right beside him, tilting her head so she could see his embarrassed features. Her companion's cheeks were blushing, the eyes once raged seemed a bit confused.
"T-this... this is different!" Inuyasha mumbled, then he sheathed Tetsusaiga back and crossed his arms, hiding his nervous hands into his long red sleeves. His face turned to the other side, frowning.
"It's quite similar to me" In a little jump, she put herself in front of him. With her hands over the waist, Kagome stared at him incisively. Inuyasha snorted in response, for he couldn't find words to give a proper answer. The school girl took a deep breath to avoid getting angry because of her jealousy, and also because of her companion boyish behavior. After regaining some calmness, she resumed to speak: "Try to be more comprehensive, we don't know what happened between them, and Anna already has suffered so much..."
"I don't want to hurt her, Kagome" he confessed, at last letting himself to show how worried he was. "But if she put herself on the way, unfortunately I'll have no choice".
"Easy..." one of her hands softly touched his shoulder and she smiled. "We'll find a way to do the right thing without having to harm an innocent person". Her tenderness calmed the inuhanyo for a moment, till her features suddenly changed from serene to annoyed, and the irritation sounded clear into her next words. "And, in the next time, you don't go chasing Naraku on your own!" the girl pointed one index finger right in front of his nose. "We're all together in this, you silly!" She pinched one of his cheeks.
"Hey, Kagome! Why are you doing this?!" He complained and she laughed.
"He is nowhere to be found!" All of sudden, Sango yelled from the skies, Shippo was over her shoulder, Miroku right behind, the trio riding Kirara. Even before her feline yokai touched her paws on the soil, the demon slayer has already jumped and ran to Kagome.
"Sango, Shippo?!" Kagome said. Soon the monk got off from the big cat's back and went to his friends as well. "What happened?" the school girl asked.
"It's Kohaku!" the little fox demon told. "We looked after him in the woods, in the village, but found not a trace of him!"
"We don't know if he ran because he was feeling guilty, or if he has been captured again by..." Miroku didn't proceed telling his ideas, for the agony on Sango's eyes crushed his heart.
"Naraku!" Inuyasha completed for him though. "That bastard!".
