Annabelle was wandering errantly into the depths of the forest, her energy emanated intensely, the trees were shaking as if they were in anguish, the wind didn't choose only one direction to blow, and for such messy violent breezes, particles of grass and grains of sand were floating in the air. By her side, the stream's waters waved like a furious open sea. The western lass' feet dragged, buried into the earth in heavy steps, and she cried. How she cried! A hand pressed the fabric of her cleavage, wishing to pierce through the cloth and through her very flesh, in an attempt to reach her throbbing heart and calm it down. Flashes of the early morning reappeared fresh in her memory, images of two naked bodies entangled, molten on each other, as if they were made to be as one. Such mementos brought her back to the last days, or months, she wasn't certain of how long it lasted, it looked like a whole life lived in seconds, yet a life anyway.
She fell on her knees, her hands squeezing the bush on the soil. Flowers wept, the very nature seemed to grieve for it's spokeswoman. Soiled fingers entwined around coppery locks of hair, a bag once hanging on her back went down and the clothes, spread on the ground. Did she care? Not at all.
"What happened to you?" a familiar voice sounded.
Annabelle slowly lifted her face. First she saw the sandals, then those red pants, at last her watery gaze met the white layer of cloth and the serene semblance of the very known priestess.
"He casted me out, he sent me away!" The foreigner told between sobs and gasps.
"You are free of him" Kikyo knelt in front of her "Why do you cry?"
"Because it hurts! It hurts unmeasurably!" Anna unburdened. "He said he already got all he wanted from me, that I was merely a distraction! I just can't believe in it, not after everything we shared! I almost gave my life for his!"
"What do you feel for Naraku?" the miko calmly asked.
"I think..." She sobbed "I don't dare speaking it out loud, I just can't!" Her shoulders were trembling, Kikyo held them, the clay fingers felt some scratches under the thin sleeves.
"What is this? Why are you wounded?"
"I went to wash myself, wanting to clean his smell from my skin, but that bastard's scent is stuck all over my being!" And she stopped talking to drown herself in tears and despair. "I don't understand, he made me a promise!"
"Never believe in Naraku's words, he has no honor" the priestess sighed. "You think you love him, do you not?"
"I don't want it! I can't!" Anna vociferated, not only sad, but deeply angry. "I don't want to love someone so selfish and vile"!
"And you don't, it is this shard in your chest that makes you believe you love him" she explained. "As much as you managed to keep it pure, the evilness never fades from the Jewel of Four Souls".
"You are speaking the same as Naraku did. But how all these feelings almost tangible could be just a simple illusion?!"
"Listen to me" suddenly, Kikyo's features hardened and she cupped Annabelle's soaked cheeks. "It is not Naraku who you truly love. You have known love once, remember? Love showed itself in your life as a man whose Naraku has stolen the identity. Don't you allow this cursed shard to close your eyes to the truth".
"Kagewaki..." Anna weakly whispered, her cries descended like a waterfall for one more reason now. "I forgot how his eyes looked like, when I think of them, the first thing I see is Naraku's red ones". She sealed her swollen eyelids intensely.
"After everything you have been through, I still see goodness inside of you" Her seriousness changed into a sympathetic gaze "Naraku wasn't able to defile your soul, I can see that" She looked around, witnessing the fury of the nature, and then resumed to stare at the red-haired woman. "Calm down your heart, not every hope is lost, not for you at least".
Blue eyes remained closed, yet not so tight anymore. The foreigner tried to control her breathing, gradually managing to slow it down. She could feel a warmth around her contours, a soft energy embracing her, similar to her own.
It was Kikyo's aura.
As Annabelle began to recompose herself, the wind, the trees and the stream were filled by quietness, and some crickets' sounds announced the night's arrival. Those celestial globes opened, releasing a few more tears in the end. Then, the miko pulled a rolled paper from her collar's inside.
"Here, take it" she delivered the object into Belle's hands.
The ginger lass carefully opened the paper, and noticed it was a map.
"Where is it?" At first, she felt confused about the nankin sketches, yet soon her sight stopped over a drawing of a mount, next to the marked locus. "Is it the place that you mentioned? Have you been there already?"
"Exactly" Kikyo smiled "I never went to this place, but I heard some rumors about it. In there you may have a new life, you will be able to walk away from everything that has harmed you once. It is a new chance to establish yourself and find some happiness". She exhaled. "Everything I will never have"...
Annabelle felt the priestess' pain as if it was her own. With her heart aching, the western woman held the other's hands firmly.
"If you are here, just as I am, you too have this chance". Emotional sky-blue twinkling orbs stared at the miko.
"I am not like you, my body isn't made of flesh, it is merely a shell which allows me to move. My soul has no restoration, but yours still have. You know, when I look at you I see myself, who I once was. Perhaps this perception has made me fear you at first, it also made me see you as an obstacle". Kikyo mentioned, a bit embarrassed. "Yet now, all I wish is to keep you unstained, as if doing this somehow I could keep the memory of my very self intact".
"Kikyo, thank you..." Although all melancholy consuming her core, Anna smiled. "You may disagree, but I still see shades of this woman from the past in your deeds, you still are this person. Seek for her inside your heart" Her thumbs gently caressed the priestess hands' upside. "I believe we both still can do a plenty of good things"...
The miko felt mesmerized by the blueness, and even if she didn't have a real heart pulsing into her chest, that part of her body grew warm. Would it be a small hope? A rounded, green portal appeared behind her, capturing Annabelle's attention and ending that brief fond instant between the two of them.
"Before you go to the place I indicated, someone would like to see you" Kikyo said.
Ailyn! Anna stood up, put her clothes in the bag and walked towards that mystical gate. However, before getting in, she looked at the priestess one more time and dedicated to her a last smile of gratitude.
"Good luck" Kikyo said before the western woman faded from her view. As soon as the portal closed, her sight focused ahead and she initiated the journey that would lead her feet exactly to the place where Annabelle's tormentor was hiding.

"Ailyn!" She exclaimed, squeezing her twin's arms.
"Oh, please, no need to make a scandal of it, yes?" The golden-haired sibling waved her hands and got some distance.
"Are you alright? How long have you been hiding in here?" Anna walked around the small chamber, touching some objects on the shelves, then looking inside the cauldron.
"Since I have fled. Hey, do not mess my things up!" She scolded.
"Oh..." Belle came closer to her sister again. "It must be hard to stay in here, hidden from everything and everyone..." she rued. "I'm very sorry, for everything".
"Just put the past in the past" Ailyn sounded indifferent, still her eyes showed shades of discomfort.
"Kikyo told me you have been together, and that you showed our past to her. Why did you do that?"
"That big mouthed priestess..." Ailyn chuckled. "I came to know she tried to kill you, so I wanted to make her regret it, for I was certain that, deep inside, her heart was as soft as the girl's who is her reincarnation".
"How did you know Kagome was Kikyo's reincarnation?" Turquoises widened, stupefied.
"Little sister, your powers are linked with nature's forces, mine are bounded to supernatural ones" She moved the little finger with a golden ring, adorned by a vivid greenish gemstone.
"... at what cost?" Annabelle asked sadly and low.
"Worry not, I won't try to kill you again, your powers no longer interest me" Ailyn shrugged and stepped by the little room, sliding her fingers over the cauldron's edge. "A single Shikon no Tama's shard can make me eternally young and maintain me in this world, imagine what all of them can do then"...
"Ailyn, any of each ways ends badly" Anna came near, never giving up on trying to open her sister's eyes. "Why do you insist so much on this idea of eternal youth"?
"Immortality" The Red Rose corrected her twin "I want immortality".
"What for? Don't you think everything would just become repetitive at some point?"
"You cannot understand, can you?" She let a brief chuckle out, then locked her eyes on the liquid boiling inside the big rounded receptacle. "I have done a pact to earn this powers. In the day I die, I will have to pay it back with my soul" Looking at her ring, the blond woman saw herself reflected inside the green jewel, as if she was stuck inside of it. "When I tried to kill you, it was not only because I wanted to absorb your gift, but also to offer your soul in exchange of mine. A soul so big would worth the trade for the devil. You don't play with the other world without offering something in return" She laughed, mocking of herself this time.
Anna got mute, Ailyn noticed her silence and yet pretended not giving so much importance to it.
"No resentments?" The woman dressed in red teased.
"I have always missed you, but you didn't give me much of a choice. If I hadn't hidden myself, you would insist on that persecution. So, I travelled to many places, going more and more away from you..." She recalled.
"And then you came to end up here, in this middle of nowhere. On this land of retrograde people and spider-demons" this time her laughter was louder, however, behind the veil of mockery, there was a shadow of resentment. "And all of this for no use, in the end you broke the spell concealing your presence from me just to cast the dagger and get rid of that bastard, and besides not being able to kill him, you dragged me to this place. Yet, at least I learned about the jewel's existence and for that, and only that, I forgive you".
"I wish so much we could return to be what we were to each other..." Anna let the thought scape of her mind while her gaze was lowered, distant.
"You and this nostalgia of yours! Get over it, Annabelle!" Her eyes rolled in annoyance.
"I know you feel the same, I could sense it on that day, when I nearly killed you" The White Rose stared at the Red one.
Ailyn evaded from her sister's gaze and tried hard to maintain the superiority's façade. However, something in the way her eyebrows moved down was denouncing her inquietude. No smart or mocking answer came, nor smirks, nothing.
"Let's go back to our home" Anna suggested. "Let's go back to Scotland"!
"We don't have a home, we have nothing there any longer. Do not be so ridiculous!" She scolded firmly. "Now, try to get some rest. Tomorrow I will take you wherever you wish to go. If you stay here too much time that little friend of yours may find me, and I am certainly not in the mood to look at his cynical face".
What a temper! Annabelle deeply breathed, her sister's temperament was getting even more harsh in each day. Nevertheless, Ailyn was right about her tiredness. The ginger twin went to the armchair and sat over there, being not sure if she would be able to sleep, but she would try at least to rest her eyes and not to think about anything. Soon Anna found out that her thoughts were too stubborn to fade. They persisted pounding into her mind, bringing back memories of Naraku laying by her side, waiting for her slumber to come while he would softly entwine his fingers on her flaming locks. His serene eyes, his straight lips, the naked milky skin... Annabelle spun her body upon the seat, trying to accommodate herself. Ailyn watched her movements, noticing her eyelashes getting wet, yet the blond sibling remained silent, not wanting to interfere on that moment of internal lament.
I do not love him! Belle repeated it many times into her thoughts, as it was a mantra.
To be continued...

Are you ready to see more of Ailyn in the future? What do you think about Anna's sister? She is... complicated, to say the least.
I know this chapter was most of all expositing, many dialogues and such, but I'm attached to details, I love to write relationships' development, and maybe I end up being too much detail-oriented, sometimes I fear some of you can get bored, well, I hope not. Hope you are diving into this just as I am, because all those conversations will make sense on what is coming next, I can assure you.
To the ones who are missing Naraku, don't worry, you'll see more of him in the next chapter.
See ya, kissus!
