            The smell of the new spring grass was a fresh fragrance he had never stopped to
appreciate before and he discovered it was something he quite enjoyed. That and the scent of the
newly blooming roses in the garden mixed with the warm aroma of dirt and moss. It seemed the
world was suddenly full of wonders he never knew existed and it would take him years to
discover them all. That was if Inuyasha stayed long enough to teach him the patience of doing
nothing more than laying in the shade of a tree and listening to the sounds the world made around
him.
            How long had they been doing just that today? Sesshoumaru wasn’t sure. He had lost all
track of time once the hanyou finally got him to lay down under the sakura tree and put his head
in his lap. Gentle fingers massaged his scalp and combed through the satiny strands of his long
silver hair and he growled in rich contentment.
            “Close your eyes, Sesshou.” Inu coaxed as he stroked the silky mass of his brother’s hair.
“You need to learn how to relax and just let go, you know. You’re way too tensed up all the
time.”
            “I have much to worry about, Inu. Being the Lord of The Western Lands is a great
responsibility. It does not leave very much time for relaxing.”
            “I understand that, but you have to learn to take a little time for yourself or your going to
end up a sour, nervous old man like Jekin.”
            “Now there’s an unpleasant thought.”
            “See, that alone should give you enough incentive to want to learn how to relax.” Inu let
a low chuckle slip from his lips as he watched his brother smile. “I thought you’d like that.” He
said leaning over to rub his nose along Sesshoumaru’s forehead.
            “You are very amusing, little brother.”
            “Glad you think so.” Amusement twinkled in the golden depths of Inuyasha’s eyes as he
gazed lovingly into his brother’s beautiful face. “At least I can make you smile.”
            “Hai, you can do that, Saiai.” The Inu Youkai agreed with half a grin as he reached up to
cup a smooth cheek. “And so much more. Perhaps there is something to be said for this relaxing
thing of yours after all, ne?” Sesshoumaru wrapped a long strand of his brothers silver-white hair
around his fingers and slowly began to pull the smiling face closer to him. “I can see many
benefits from it already.”
            “Can you, Anaki?” Inu said in a husky voice as he let his lips brush a seductive caress
over his brothers waiting mouth. “What benefits can you see? Tell me.”
            “It keeps you in kissing distance, my delicious little hanyou. That is the most valuable
benefit I see at the moment...the rest will come to me in a moment. For now, this one is enough.

            “Sesshou...” The name was almost a prayer as Inuyasha leaned all the way down and

            “I’m glad, Sesshou.” Inu leaned over and pressed his forehead against the brilliant blue
moon on Sesshoumaru’s and held him for a long, intense moment letting his feelings of love and
desire flood out through his hands and skin. “Aishiteru, Saiai-Anaki. I would die without you.”
            “Netsuai-Saiai Inuyasha,” Sesshoumaru tenderly leaned up and pressed a soft kiss into his
brothers mouth. “You are my zenrei, little one. Though I am nigenai...I cannot live without you
either.”
            “You are not unworthy, Anaki. You are my reini ku. I will love you forever.”
            “You–you’re body and soul, Inu? Am I truly so much to you?”
            “Hai, Saiai. You are everything. I never want to be without you again.”
            “Then you never will. I have promised you this before, Inuyasha, but I give you this oath
with my whole heart and soul. I will never let you go, my beloved. If that wretched girl ever
wants you back, she must come and prove herself to me before I will ever let you leave.”
            “Anaki...” Inuyasha’s voice choked in his throat as he buried his face in Sesshoumaru’s
throat. “I–I...”
            “She is the fool, little brother. If she cannot see what an exquisite wonder you are, then
she doesn’t deserve to have you...not unless she can prove she is worthy of your love. It is not

while trying to muster a scowl. “You know you aren’t supposed to talk back to Sesshoumaru-sama. It’s not polite.”
            “I didn’t know I was supposed to be polite to ‘him’. I thought that was just for company
and stuff.”
            “Keh, it is for company and stuff, but you have to be polite and respectful to your
guardian more than anyone else. He’s the most important.”
            “Oh, I didn’t know that. I thought he was just ‘Sesshoumaru-sama, you know...just
‘him’.” She shrugged and offered a small apologetic smile that had her Uncle swallowing his
tongue in a effort not to laugh. “I’ll try to do better, Uncle Inu. I mean, if I have to be polite to

            “Most definitely, Rin-chan. Now go find Jekin and you and I will play again later, hai?”
            “Hai.” She stood up, bowed, and ran off through the room and down the hallway calling
for Jekin as she went.

motioning for Inuyasha to follow him. “Come, there is something I want to talk to you about.”
            “Oh yeah, I sorta forgot about that.” He leaned over and picked his sword up off the floor
and tucked it safely in his belt. “What’s this all about, Sesshou?” He asked as he hurried to catch
up with the Youkai.
            “Just something I’ve been thinking about for the last couple of days and I’ve finally
decided to see what you think about it.” They entered a large room filled with book shelves and
plush furniture. There was a big mahogany wood desk setting off to one corner next to a wide
window that overlooked one of the many gardens surrounding the palace. It was here that
Sesshoumaru went. “Please, get one of the chairs and come sit with me.”
            “Alright,” Inu grabbed an ornately carved chair with filigree styled arms and legs. The
back and seat were cushioned with pads of stuffed blue velvet. “What do you want to talk
about?” He asked as he put the chair down in front of the desk and sat in it. “You’re really
starting to make me nervous.”
            “Gomen, Inu. That was not my intention. Please don’t be nervous. It is nothing bad I
assure you.”
            “If you say so, then why all the formality?”
            “Formality?” Sesshoumaru looked confused as he took the seat behind his desk. “I was
not aware I was being formal. I just wanted to talk to you in private out of the range of small
ears...if you understand?”
            “You mean you didn’t want Rin-chan eves-dropping?”
            “Something like that.” He nodded and reached down to pick something up off the floor.
“There are certain things that are best kept out of her life. That way there is less to explain until it
becomes necessary to explain it at all.” He smiled and winked making his brother gape in
surprise. “I discovered that makes my life much simpler, and I assure you it is something you
would do well to learn yourself. It saves time and headaches...and arguments.”
            “Anaki,” Inuyasha exclaimed with a big grin as laughter bubbled over his lips. “I had no
idea you were so devious.”
            “Iie, hanyou...not devious, subtle. There is a difference.”
            “Gomen, Lord Dog. My apologies. I didn’t know you were so...subtle.”
            “More than you know, little brother. It’s a necessary quality if one wishes to govern...or

            “Indeed. I can see where it would help avoid many arguments.”
            “I thought you might.” Sesshoumaru lifted a large leather bound book up and dropped it
on top of his desk. It was nearly as thick as his hand was wide and it made a loud ‘thud’ as it hit
the hard mahogany. “Whew!” He grunted and then dusted his hands off. “Bloody heavy, that.”
            “What the hell is that thing? It looks like you could kill somebody with that.”
            “You could...if you know what you’re doing.”
            “Huh?” Inu scooted forward in his chair and looked at the big book. “I was just kidding,
Sesshou. I mean, it’s a big fucking book and you could probably bust somebody in the head with
it if you wanted, but...why would you want to?” He grinned, and scratched his head. “What is it
anyway? It looks old.”
            “It is old.” Sesshoumaru replied as he blew a layer of dust off the top cover. “And as to
what it is, it’s a spell book.”
            “A spell book? You mean it’s a magic book?”
            “Hai, it’s a magic book, Inu. That is what most spell books are, baka. And they are big
because Master Magicians use them to pound sense into the heads of their deshi’s...baka-deshi’s.”
            “Very funny, Lord Dog, ha ha.” Inu stuck his tongue out at his brother. “Okay, fine. So
you have a magic book. Next question...why do you have a magic book?”
            “So I can practice magic, I should think.”
            “You are going to be an asshole about this no matter what I say, aren’t you?” To
Inuyasha’s surprise his brother burst into laughter. “Hey, what’s so funny?”
            “You are, Saiai. Gomen nasai, Inuyasha, beloved, but it has been a long time since I really
felt like laughing and for whatever reasons, you bring that out in me.”
            “Fine, you’re forgiven you sarcastic dog, now just tell me what the hell is going on before
I pounce on you and beat it out of you.”
            “As if you could.”
            “Don’t tempt me.”
            “You are almost as bad as a woman, you know this, don’t you?”
            “SESSHOU!”
            “Ka, calm down.” Another string of chuckles trickled from the Youkai’s lips before he
finally gave in. “I have a book of spells because for quite a few years I have dabbled in the
Magician’s Arts, but that is not the reason I wanted to talk to you.”
            “What is the reason?”
            “I wanted to ask you a question. It is something I want you to think about–you don’t
need to answer me right now. In fact, I would prefer if you didn’t. I want you to really think
about it before you answer then we will discuss it further...if that is what you want.”
            “Alright.” Inuyasha say back in his chair and eyed his brother warily. “Am I going to like
this?”
            “I don’t know to tell you the truth. I know it is something you have wished for in the
past, but I do not know your feelings on the matter anymore.”
            “Okay,” He sat and looked at his claws for several quiet moments before meeting
Sesshoumaru’s gaze. “Ask me.”
            “Do you still want to be a full Inu Youkai?”
            “Wh-what?!”
            “I’m sure you heard me, Inuyasha.” Sesshoumaru leaned back in his chair and considered
his brother’s pale, stunned features. “It may be within my power to give that to you...if you still
desire it.”
            “H-how?”
            “Magic.” He indicated the heavy book and tapped the cover with one long claw. “There
are many powerful spells inside this old book, and there may be something inside that can bring
out your full blood and Youkai spirit.”
            “Wh-why would you want to do that?” Inu felt suddenly confused. Did Sesshoumaru not
love him the way he was anymore? What was wrong that he wanted to change him into a full
Youkai? Had he done something wrong?
            “Why? Because I want to give you something important, Inu. I want to give you
something in return for all of the things you have brought to me since you came back. But
mostly,” he paused and looked at the book. “Mostly I want to give you something that our father
denied you.”
            “Denied me? What are you talking about, Sesshou? Father didn’t deny me anything.”
            “But he did, Inuyasha. He denied you the right to be what you were meant to be, a
TaiYoukai. You should have the right to stretch your Youkai spirits legs and run with the wind
as he did...as I have. WE should be able to run together, little brother. I want to chase the wind
with you.”
            “Then...then it’s not because you think I’m...” Inu dropped his eyes and stared at a spot
of the front of Sesshoumaru’s desk unable to finish his thought because of the lump filling his
throat. Instead he raised his hand and tried to hide the quiver that sifted over his lower lip.
            “Because I think you are what?” Sesshoumaru was confused. This was not the reaction
he expected. Anger, perhaps bewilderment or even outrage, but not this strange quiet. Quickly
he stood and rounded his desk and knelt next to his brother’s chair. “What are you thinking, little
brother?” He asked trying to see past the hand that covered the hanyou’s face. “What have you
let your mind conclude my motive for this offer is, Inuyasha? Obviously it is nothing good or you
would not be this way.” Tenderly he wiped the hair off his brother’s forehead and tucked it
behind one of his soft dog ears. “Talk to me, Inu...what are you thinking? Tell me.”
            “I–I can’t, Sesshou.” He choked closing his eyes.
            “Hai, you can.” Sesshoumaru stood up and grabbed a handful of the firerat robe his
brother wore. Hauling him to his feet in one smooth motion, he pulled the stiff hanyou close to
his chest and pressed his face against the curve of his shoulder. “Tell me, Inuyasha. Tell me
before you condemn me.”
            “I–do you...oh Anaki...do you wish me to change because...because you...because you no
longer love me the way I am?”
            The words tore into Sesshoumaru’s heart and he whimpered at the amount of pain they
caused. “Kami-sama, Saiai...is that what you think?”
            “H-hai...I–I don’t know...I...is it...do you...Anaki?” Inu began to cry like a little boy his
arms finding their way around his brother’s waist to hold on tight.
            “Iie! Iie! Dearest God, Inuyasha! Iie, that is not what I think! It will never be what I
think! NEVER!”
            “A-anaki!”
            “I have only wished for you to have the same feelings I have...to know the power, to feel
the hunger and the passion of the Youkai. It should have been yours to savor the same as me...I
understand something of love now so I can imagine how our father must have felt about you and
your mother, but...you still should have had the opportunity to know what it feels like to be a
whole Youkai. You should have been born to chase the wind, Inuyasha. Can you understand
what I am saying to you, little brother?”
            “I...I think so...” He burrowed closer to the warm throat and nuzzled the pounding pulse
point.
            “I have nearly lost control of my Youkai twice while we have been together...there is a
fear within me that one day I will not be able to stop myself from changing and then I do not
know what will happen.” His arms tightened almost painfully around the trembling man he held.
“If I killed you...even by accident, I would never be able to live with myself. It would kill me to
know what I’d done...It would kill me, Inu. That is what has brought me to the decision to offer
to make you whole Youkai. I–I am afraid of losing you to my own demon.”
            “But, I am not afraid of you, Anaki.”
            “You have said that before, little brother...and I have told you before you should be. It is
not a game we are playing, Inuyasha. In the midst of lovers passions I don’t think you could
defend yourself against me...if you were a full Youkai...”
            “I would change with you, ne?”
            “Hai...I believe it would be so.” Sesshoumaru was trembling himself. “We would be
equals in every sense and you would be safe. Please, Saiai...at least think about it.” He buried his
face in the softness of his brother’s hair and began to stroke the long, satiny mass.
            “H-hai...I will think about it, Sesshou. I will think about it.”
