The next day began easily
enough. Coffee and breakfast and then I had to call the insurance company,
telling them that my car was a wreck and that they could remove the number of
the car from their files. Two hours later it was fixed and I took a deep breath,
I just hated talking to monsters in suits. After that I decided that I needed to
do some shopping. I had almost no food and I needed more cigarettes. But what
the hell should I do with Sesshoumaru? Take him with me and let him threaten
every being in the shop? Nope, out of the question. He just had to remain in my
house until I came back. If I had a house when I came back.
I saw him sit in the sofa
with the next book in my lexicon series. He flipped the pages and looked at the
pictures as he had done yesterday. The depressed frown was more evident today
and it made me worry a bit. But I brushed it off, I needed food and I had to go
to the shop.
-
Sesshoumaru?
-
Yes, Maria-sama?
-
I must go out for a few hours, I said and watched him as he
tensed up.
-
I will come with you, he said and put his book away.
-
No, there is no need for you to come with me. I will be away
for a very short while. And I want you to stay inside the house until I get
back. Can you do that for me Sesshoumaru?
-
Out of the question Maria-sama, I will come with you. You
might need protection.
“Not that again?”
-
Sesshoumaru, I will be only going to the grocery store, I’m
perfectly safe.
-
Do not oppose this Sesshoumaru.
-
FINE!! Come with me, but be sure that you are dressed
properly and you must leave that fluffy thing behind! I snorted and turned
around to grab my hand bag and keys.
-
Why?
-
Because I said so. Leave it or you will stay behind, your
choice Sesshoumaru, I said without looking at him.
I heard him growl but I
could see that he removed the fluffy thing and put on the sofa. He pulled on a
shirt and came up next to me. I nodded and moved him outside as I turned around
to lock the door behind me.
Two hours and only two
death threats later we were on our way back home again. Sesshoumaru helped me
carry the bags and I was grateful for it. I had made sure that I got food to
last us at least a week ahead. I didn’t want to go through that ordeal too soon.
I was happy once we were back home and I stuffed the things into the fridge.
Sesshoumaru was looking at me, I could feel it and I suddenly felt very exposed.
What was his problem anyway – besides being a demon from another time, dumped in
the 21 century?
~~ ~~
Sesshoumaru was worried
about the human woman who had taken him under her wings, given him shelter and
food. She told him that the monthly bleeding was nothing to worry about, and yet
he could see that it was hurting her. She clasped her stomach every now and then
and he knew from what she told him that she was suffering from cramps. He wanted
to relive her from the pain, but she wouldn’t let him come close to her. The
light pink dusk on her cheeks told him that she was embarrassed, not that he
could understand why, but it was something that she was not telling him and he
did not like it. The tension grew thick between them and Sesshoumaru hated it
when she diverted her eyes. Those emerald green pools that made his world a
little bit shakier than it had been before. But she was human, a filthy human,
some part of him yelled as his heart refused to go with that statement. She may
be a human, but she had a big heart and he liked that she had a quick tongue and
was able to handle most situations. He saw her put the last of the things into
that cold cabinet and then she walked into another room. He saw her sit down on
a chair and he heard something being brought to life, a mechanical thing. He
followed her and saw a box flimmer with odd signs.
~~ ~~
I felt Sesshoumaru come
up behind me and he watched the screen of my computer. He put his hand on the
back of my chair and leaned over. I could feel the warmth from his body roll
down over me, and that heavenly pine scent… man, how could he smell so good? How
could he smell so manly when the only thing he had used to clean himself with
was my soaps… and they were not pine-scented… My computer came to life and I
opened up my mail program to check if I gotten any mail the past week. Well,
most of it was trash but there was some good things too. Then I opened up a
window and searched for a dictionary on line and found one that pleased me. I
got curious and typed in Sesshoumaru’s name. By now he had gone back to his
reading but what plopped up on the screen did not make me feel any better.
“Killing perfection? Is that what his name means… killing perfection?” I
swallowed hard and remembered the men in the woods. If the police ever found
that little green pool of goo I guessed they would have trouble identifying the
DNA… it had to be four DNA-groups, melted into a puddle. “I don’t thing he
ever will have a problem with the authorities on that specific case…. It would
be harder to get him to stop his infernal death threats that he deals out here
and there.” I thought as I found a Japanese newspaper that had their text
written in English. But I could not find anything about a man with the name
Sesshoumaru that was missing. “Oh, well it was worth a try.” I thought
and let the knowledge of him coming from another time sink in a little bit more
in my mind.
I sighed and was about to
close down my computer when I saw my MSN blink a couple of times. I smiled when
I recognized my dear friend Angie’s alias. Angie is a friend from the USA that I
began to speak with around a year ago. She asked me what I was doing home now,
she knew that I was going to be away for several weeks.
~ Well, I got mixed up
in something and now I have a dog demon here with me. ~
I said to her with a smile on my lips, knowing she wouldn’t believe me.
~ A dog demon? You can
not possible have a certain lord named Sesshoumaru with you? *lol* ~
I fell forward and
knocked my forehead into my keyboard. How the hell did she know his name? It was
impossible. But a coincidence? No way, she had to know something.
~ Sesshoumaru? What do
you mean? ~ I asked her
without acknowledging her question.
~ Sesshoumaru is the
lord of the western lands, he’s the guy I sent you pictures of from time to time
over the mail. Silver hair, a fluffy tail, magenta streaks on his cheeks and a
crescent moon on his forehead. ~
I gulped as I remembered
the pictures and I began searching in my hard drive for the pictures and sure
enough, there they were. It was Sesshoumaru, stylized in anime tradition.
~ Mia… are you there?
~
~ Yeah… hey… I got to
go… See you later….~
I logged off, too stunned
to continue the conversation any longer.
I watched the pictures in
my computer and once again I was shocked by the sheer similarity they had with
the man that now resided in my sofa. How could I explain this to me, to him…? He
was a figure from a Japanese comic… A figure that a woman named Rumiko Takahashi
had thought up. He was not real at all. But he looked real to me.. I mean, I had
felt his hand on me… I was certain that he was real. I needed to know what
happened right before he passed out. I printed out a few of the pictures before
I turned off my computer and walked into my living room.
~~ ~~
Sesshoumaru saw the tense
form of his hostess and he knew that there was something wrong. He put away the
heavy book and motioned her to sit down next to him on the sofa.
-
Sesshoumaru… I think I know who you are now, I whispered as I
sat down next to him.
-
You know who this Sesshoumaru is?
-
Yes… Do you have a half brother named Inuyasha? I asked as I
recalled the memories from my previous “talks” with Angie.
My answer was an angry
growl.
-
You have a young human girl as your ward? Her name is Rin?
-
How do you know all these things about this Sesshoumaru? he
snarled as he grabbed my shoulders and made me look into his face.
-
Because I have a friend over seas that have told me about
you. I must have had some kind of mental block when you told me your name, but
when I told her that I had a dog demon in my care she asked me if I hade You in
my care. It was then my memory caught up with me. She told me that she is into a
Japanese cartoon-series named Inuyasha. She have told me about her infatuation
with you Lord Sesshoumaru, the lord of the western lands. She have sent me
numerous pictures of you. Stylized but you can see that you are this very
person.
I gave him the prints I
made and he looked at them. I could see that he was just as shocked as I was. He
looked at me and I smiled weakly.
-
Tell this Sesshoumaru more, he demanded and I could hear the
roughness in his voice, making small electric chills go up and down my spine.
-
I am not sure how it is possible, but it seems that you have
been brought to my world. The real world through some kind of magic Sesshoumaru.
You are really a figment of one woman’s imagination. And I need to know what
happened to you right before you passed out and woke up in the quarry, I said
with a voice so steady that I hardly believed it was mine at all.
-
I was fighting against Naraku, together with that bastard
brother of mine, growled Sesshoumaru as he ripped the pictures into small
pieces.
-
Naraku?
-
A piece of filth that is soiling the earth for every moment
he is alive, said Sesshoumaru and looked at me.
-
Ohh, a very bad guy then? I managed to squeak out.
-
Yes, he is. So are you telling me that I am nothing more than
a figment of a person’s imagination?
The question hung heavily
between us before I nodded. But it was the truth. And now I waited for the
question that I knew had to be coming, and my house guest did not fail me.
-
How do I get back?
-
I don’t know… dear goddess Sesshoumaru. I don’t know. I was
so set on that you were a person from my world’s history… but now I don’t know
anymore, I said with a low voice.
-
This Sesshoumaru is troubling you, he stated.
-
Yes, you do, to some degree… you do. But I will try and find
a way for you to get back into your world again, I said with determination.
Silence.
-
What if this Sesshoumaru does not want to go back?
-
Huh?
-
What will happen if I don’t want to go back Maria-sama?
-
I… I don’t know… Don’t you want to go back? What about Rin?
-
Rin is safe with Inuyasha and that flimsy mate of his.
-
B-but… but…
-
This Sesshoumaru has no wish to go back into that world
again, said the demon as he looked at me with his amber eyes.
-
Oh… but what will you do here?
-
Be with you of course, protect you Maria-sama, said
Sesshoumaru and he smiled gently, and that smile made my world rock.
I could not form a
sentence after that. I just sat there, gaping at his words. I felt like a fish
on dry land. I felt his clawed hand cup my left cheek, his thumb brushed over my
skin.
-
Will you let this Sesshoumaru be your companion and body
guard? He asked and I could hear the husky tone of his voice and I shivered
lightly as my heart guided my movements. I nodded to his question and I soon
found myself being pulled into his embrace.
I put my arms around him
and let him hug me tight. Somehow I knew that he needed this and I let it
happen. “Time to make up a new schedule for my life.” I thought distantly as I
buried my face into his neck, taking in his pine scent.
