Family Business
…He awoke later to a throbbing headache, “What the hell was that about?” Kouga began to sway as
he got up and tried to walk. He missed the figure that was lying next to where he had been a moment
ago. “Kouga, what’s wrong?” Ayame asked obviously concerned and still alittle drowsy. “Oh no,”
Kouga said before he passed out. Ayame dragged him over to her and let him rest his head on her
lap. ‘Maybe I should tell him that he sleep walked to me.’ Ayame thought. 'Nah, thats just a minor
detail.' She decided to get some more rest as she fell asleep stroking Kouga's hair.
Kagome woke later to Inu Yasha’s embrace. They both had the mark of mates. She looked around,
they were still in the forest. Dawn was soon to break. Under her, Inu Yasha began to stir. Sweat, left
his hair matted to his face. She brushed it aside. Inu Yasha looked up to her, he was smiling until the
pain in his chest returned. Kagome opened his robes with obvious concern in her eyes. The wax
marks were there from the nights events. She didn't think it'd hurt that much, "Lightweight."
"Hey, I'm not used to this kind of crap." Inu Yasha said looking up to her insulted.
"Well you better..." Kagome said to him smirking.
They got up, Inu Yasha helping Kagome to her feet. They started to walk back to the village.
Kagome with her arm around Inu Yasha's and leaning against his shoulder. She grinned, she felt
accomplished. “One ally down,” she said to no one in particular.
“What was that Kagome?” Inu Yasha asked as his focus came back from mindlessly walking.
“Nothing.”
“Oh, Kagome we should go back.”
“Aren't we?” Kagome said confused.
“No I mean to your time.”
Kagome looked at him puzzled did he just say return to her time? “You’re mom was concerned
about you.” Then Kagome remembered she had more to do than bringing about the downfall of
Naraku. She had a family more than her new family of Inu Yasha and Shippo, and perhaps that
family should know about her new family. Inu Yasha could see the thoughts debating in her mind.
Before he she could put any more thought into it he picked her up and they were off. If he had put
more thought into it Kagome would have been faster flying them.
“Kagome?”
“Yes?”
“I know we didn’t do that just to taunt Kouga, or to just establish that we’re mates.”
'Oh great, he’s wising up.' Kagome thought to herself. 'Hmm... as cute as Inu Yasha is, he's just not a
thinker. I don't need him asking questions, just to do what I want him to.'
“Kagome, what are you up to?”
She looked up to him, “Inu Yasha, when you first met me, what did you want the Shikon no Tama
for?”
“To become a full demon.” 'What does this have to do with my question?' Inu Yasha thought.
“Do you still wish that now?”
“No, not now that I have you.” She blushed and he saw it, but he wouldn’t let the subject drop.
“What did Ayame have to do with this?”
“Inu Yasha, we need allies against Naraku.”
“But from there where will we be?”
“We’ll be like we were meant to be, we’ll live eternity together or we’ll die together, should it come
to the first we’ll have pups of our own, we’ll raise them and Shippo, and you’ll always be my sex
puppy.”
“What was the last one?!”
“Oh nothing just thinking aloud again.”
They arrived at the well a moment later.
Once on the other side, Kagome was immediately greeted by her mom, grandfather, and Souta. They
were just sitting down to some breakfast when Kagome and Inu Yasha walked into the house. Now
that she was back at the shrine she felt she could fold back her wings, and they did, she was able to
render them unable to be seen.
Kagome’s mom showed her relief when she hugged Kagome tightly and began to cry. “Relax mom,
everything is fine... No better than fine, I’m mated to Inu Yasha.” Kagome’s family looked at Inu
Yasha, who began to blush furiously.
“Guess that means you can’t return to school,” Souta pointed out.
“I have no intention to,” Kagome replied.
“That’s why I have these for you,” Kagome’s mom hand her a pack loaded with books, supplies,
and other items she felt Kagome would need.
“Kagome, your spirit belongs to the Feudal Era. You deserve to live life free.” Inu Yasha was
obviously thrilled of the notion that Kagome would spend all her time with him in his time.
“How do you intend to drop out of school?” Kagome’s grandfather asked.
“We’ll say she’s pregnant and has to take care of her child.” Both Inu Yasha and Kagome blushed
at the notion. Kagome’s mom not surprised at their reaction, she knew it was inevitable.
“Kagome is there something you want to tell me?”
“Yes, mom I have a family now. Inu Yasha’s now my mate, and we’re taking care of Shippo as our
own.”
“I see…” “Will you return to visit?”
“Not too often, I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be, you have your life to live. When I was your age I was braver, more adventurous.”
Kagome’s mom held back her tears as best she could; she and Kagome shared one last hug before
she was off again through the well for perhaps the last time. They left that morning solemn as ever,
but as they arrived they found Miroku, Sango, and Shippo waiting for them…
