Chapter 5: Emotional State Yay, it’s a new chapter. This is a tentative chapter. I’m not sure if I’m satisfied with it yet or if it matches the rest of the story, so please give feedback.
“How is Inuyasha-sama feeling?” the young girl asked as she stepped into the room.
“I’m fine,” Inuyasha grumbled roughly.
“Sesshoumaru-sama says Inuyasha-sama will be leaving soon.”
“Does he now.” Inuyasha griped, “Who does that bastard think he is?”
“Inuyasha-sama, I don’t think you should talk about Sesshoumaru-sama that way. Sesshoumaru-sama has been kind to Rin.”
“About that,” Inuyasha said questioningly, “You’re human, right? She nodded, staring at him curiously. “Then, what are you doing here? He hates humans.”
“Sesshoumaru-sama doesn’t hate humans. Sesshoumaru-sama loves Rin.” Sesshoumaru watched this exchange, his eyes darkening furiously as Inuyasha erupted into a fit of laughter. “Rin doesn’t understand what is funny?”
Inuyasha rolled over on his stomach, fits of giggles still erupting from his mouth. “That cold bastard, you think he loves you. I hate to break it to you kid, but he doesn’t love anything more than he loves himself.” Inuyasha wiped the tears of laughter from his eyes as Rin stared at him indignantly, her face pouting slightly.
She huffed at him. “Inuyasha-sama is wrong, I know that…”
“Have you finished saying your goodbye, Rin?” Sesshoumaru’s steely voice slipped into the small room. The fury behind such simple, innocuous words enveloped Inuyasha like a wet blanket, drowning him.
“Yes, Sesshoumaru-sama,” she piped smiling broadly at him.
“Make sure that Jaken is significantly prepared for departure.” Rin hopped out of the room happily. Sesshoumaru turned his now blazing golden eyes on Inuyasha. He hated that stupid hanyou for always infuriating him. He was the Lord of the West. To let some measly hanyou besmirch him was shameful, and he felt even more shame that he was angry about it. Inuyasha stared at him warily, his eyes refusing to meet the dark pools that were currently enveloping him in their fiery gaze. Maybe he’d have some fun with the little hanyou.
“Come here, hanyou.” Sesshoumaru commanded pointing to a place in front of him. Inuyasha stepped closer to him apprehensively. It was nerve racking being close to a man that has tried to kill you as often as he could get. Sesshoumaru tried to hide the smirk as the hanyou obeyed him, and silently tried to think of a way to get back at him for his comments. Inuyasha’s insides squirmed as a calm smile appeared on Sesshoumaru’s face.
“Get on your knees,” he said, his voice not breaking its rhythmic pattern and flow. Inuyasha stared at him incredulously, not daring to believe what he heard. He shook his head slightly as his body began to ache with his effort to stay on his feet. “Is there something wrong with your hearing, hanyou or are you really that inept you failed to understand my meaning?”
Sesshoumaru’s eyes jeered as Inuyasha limply sank to his knees. “I wonder if you were this obedient for all your other masters.” Inuyasha stared up at him, his eyes widening. It would have been comical if his eyes weren’t filled with a mixture of fear and revulsion. He slipped his hand underneath Inuyasha’s chin. Inuyasha grimaced even though the touch wasn’t particularly painful. “This is simply a reminder, hanyou. I own you right now. I suggest that you keep thoughts about my personal behavior and emotional state to yourself.” He slid his fingers off the hanyou’s chin pushing him away roughly.
Inuyasha tried to utter a number of colorful nicknames for his brother, but all that came out was short gasps. “You were listening, weren’t you?” he managed to sputter.
“It matters little to me what you think of me hanyou, but I will not have such corruption aimed toward Rin.”
“I was just telling the truth,” Inuyasha groused.
“Do not pretend to know my inner workings, hanyou. We will depart shortly. Make sure you are ready.”
“Wait,” Sesshoumaru stared at him in fury at his impertinence as soft white fingers grasped tightly on his kimono sleeve. Inuyasha seemed to notice the look because he slid the offending fingers off. “What did you mean by that?” he asked not meeting the older male’s gaze. His head was pointed toward the tatami mats that lined the floor.
“I fail to understand what you’re referring to, hanyou.”
“My other masters,” Inuyasha’s voice had grown soft as he said this, “What did you mean?”
“When will you finally understand, hanyou, that I need not tell you anything?” The glare he received could rival that of his own. “Stay here until I am ready to depart.” Inuyasha didn’t acknowledge him as he slipped through the shoji.
“My Lord,” Jaken squeaked as he met him in the hallway, “Preparations are complete. I’ve already sent out your letters. Unfortunately, Ah and Un are still wearied from the earlier journey and cannot be used. I could have your horses hitched up for you.”
“That is unnecessary.” he said, “We will travel by foot.”
“As you wish, my lord.”Jaken said, “Do you wish me to fetch the Hanyou, my lord?”
“No, see to Rin’s lessons. I will get the hanyou.” “You don’t want Rin to see you off.”
“That is a waste of time, Jaken. I shan’t be gone for long, and I hope to spare her the sight of my brother.” He took quick, long strides to the silent room at the western edge of the castle. He burst into the room, intent on ordering the hanyou to leave, but stopped in his tracks. Inuyasha was still and silent as he knelt on the floor. Dark golden pools were downcast and unreadable. It looked almost as if he was staring at a different person. There was wisdom radiating in the way that he knelt, his knee’s bent and pushed underneath him. His silver hair falling over his shoulders, hands held limply in his lap.* If it wasn’t for Sesshoumaru’s exceptional hearing, he would have thought that Inuyasha wasn’t breathing. It was odd to see him this way. The normal waft of emotions that flitted across his face weren’t present. He was simply still as if he was etched in stone or marble. “Hanyou,” Sesshoumaru said he prayed that his voice wasn’t conveying the unease that he was feeling. Inuyasha moved slowly to gaze up at him. His eyes were hazy and unfocused as if he was surfacing water. He continued to stare in almost a lethargic way. Sesshoumaru moved closer to him. That simple movement seemed to jerk Inuyasha out of his daze. He violently tossed his body away from Sesshoumaru. He now stared up at him with his elbows behind him and bracing his back from hitting the floor. One foot was resting on the floor with his knee bent, while the other was equally bent and resting on the floor underneath his other leg. It was a posture Sesshoumaru immediately recognized as shock and apprehension.
“Sheesh, you’re an ass.” Inuyasha stated, “At least give me some warning before you come barging in.” He pulled himself up from the floor.
“Excuse me,” Sesshoumaru said calmly, “I was under the impression that I was entering a male’s room, not a whiny female’s.”
“Asshole,” Inuyasha spouted, “Out of the two of us, you’re the only one who looks like a girl.”
“Is that so?” Sesshoumaru said slightly bemused as he stepped closer to Inuyasha, “Shall I prove that I’m not a girl, hanyou.” He stepped even closer to Inuyasha whose eyes widened in shock.
“W-what?” Inuyasha stuttered, “N-no, get…” His voice sputtered to a halt as Sesshoumaru gripped his chin while pulling his body closer.
“What’s the matter hanyou? Don’t you want proof I’m a male, or does it delight you to think of me as a women?”
“What the hell are you talking about?” Inuyasha yelled as he struggled to get out of his grasp, “Let go of me.”
“I’ll remind you again, hanyou.” he said coming closer to Inuyasha’s face, “Watch what you say.” He released him and pushed him away. “I am prepared to leave. I’ve left you a change of clothes. Put them on.”
“No,” Inuyasha said, “I’ll wear my own clothes.”
“This isn’t a negotiation, hanyou.” Sesshoumaru spouted, “Do as I say?”
Inuyasha’s limbs moved of there own accord as he lifted the black kimono. He willed himself to stop moving and glared at Sesshoumaru. “Are you just gunna stand there and watch me?” he accused angrily.
“Would that bother you so much? We are both men.”
“Yes, it would bother me, you idiot.” Inuyasha said angrily, “How can you even ask that after what you just did?”
Sesshoumaru smirked, which caused the knot to tighten in Inuyasha’s stomach. “Don’t be so foolish, hanyou.” he said before stepping out of the shoji, “Who would ever be interested in something so disgusting.”
Sesshoumaru shook his head in exasperation. “Why do I always lose my temperament when I’m with him?” he thought desperately, “I should be trying to keep him from remembering such situations, instead I’m perpetuating his dreams. It as if I want him to dream about his past.” He shook that thought off his mind. It wasn’t possible. Why would he care about the hanyou’s past? It had nothing to do with him. “Anyway,” he thought resolutely, “I must find a way to rid myself of this connection.” He looked up from his place in the hall as the shoji slid open. Seshoumaru allowed himself a moment to take in the dark kimono that rested on Inuyasha’s sturdy shoulders. The black made Inuyasha’s cream colored skin appear even whiter. His light golden eyes stood out against the harsh coal color. He’d never fully realized just how slim and small his brother was until that moment. He looked almost like a child dressing in his father’s kimono. The hakama hung low on his hips, meanwhile the kimono teetered precariously on his shoulders.
“Keh,”Inuyasha spouted gruffly, “Why can’t I wear my own clothes? This thing’s too goddamn itchy.”
“I really couldn’t care less if it’s itchy or not. I’m not here to make you comfortable, hanyou. I will not leave on this trip with you reeking of detestable humans. It bad enough I had to smell their odious perfume when I went to fetch you.”
“Well asshole, you’re going to have to deal with it because the human smell won’t wash off of me.” Inuyasha sniffed the garments his nose wrinkling in distaste.
“Ugh,” he exclamed with a grimace, “They smell like you.”
“What do you expect?” Sesshoumaru replied lazily, “They are my clothes, after all.”
“Why the hell am I wearing your clothes,” he replied with a growl.
“I would have thought you would be pleased hanyou. You smell like a full demon now.”
Inuyasha glared at him angrily. “You are such…”
Sesshoumaru made a point of staring down at the beads around Inuyasha’s neck before staring intensely at his face. Inuyasha backed away from him, one finger running over the beads unconsciously. “I guess you have a small measure of brains in that tiny head of yours.”
Alright that’s chapter three. I know, I know, you all think its short, but seriously I tried this chapter was just hard to write. I’m not sure if I kept Sesshoumaru in character that really bugs me. *Seiza: I was trying to describe that way of sitting. It’s the formal way in Japan, and is used during special occasions usually on a tatami mat or a Zabuton. You slide to your knees and rest your thighs on your calves and your buttocks on the back of your heels; your feet are pulled straight. I don’t know if I did an accurate job of describing it, but it’s the best I got. Whenever I see someone sitting that way in anime, I always get the feeling that they’re smart and noble, but it also seems like a cold and confusing posture, so I wanted to put that idea in here.
