A/N: I realized a major problem from last chapter. I couldn’t figure out how to put in the info of which organ they had ripped out of him in Chapter 2. I was going to have him go into more detail about the attack but it just seemed wrong once I started writing it. So because of this poor planning I am just going to tell you. The organ they pulled out had been the organ that produced and held his poison. You didn’t think it just appeared right? Well yeah they neutralized his poison by removing the organ. Once again I apologize for letting the info get past me.
Also I’m sorry this chapter took so long it was supposed to be a little fluff filler that I wrote during lunch dinner and breakfast’ the cast had other plans though there is still some fluff.
Chapter 6:
When I woke up the next morning still Sesshomaru hadn’t returned. I got ready for the day, brushed my teeth took a shower got dressed in jeans and a long sleeved black shirt with a white tree on it. It was very pretty though I didn’t remember buying it. I made a light breakfast and ate it quietly.
I had no idea what I was expected to do for the rest of the day, it was only November so I still had a long wait before I could begin college. Maybe I could help around the shrine. In the months before college I could use the time to adapt and learn about what was going on. But what was I supposed to do today?
What did I want to do? Now that was a good question. No one had expected me to return yesterday and I had been gone for two months so there was no real pressing matter to do today. So what could a modern girl do on her supposed day off?
Shopping.
Oh yes, the mall, oh I had missed you. It was a day for window shopping and eating fatty, greasy mall food and playing with puppies in the pet shop. I wanted to squeal. No amount of time in the past would cure my addiction for getting lost in the crowd of people while hunting for something new. I would visit the bookstore and pick up something on the history of the Sidhe, find out what they were.
They came from Europe that much I knew, they were immortal, and had funky eye colors. Yes it was time to investigate but more importantly it was time to shop.
There was a knock on the kitchen door. I turned around and found Sesshomaru standing outside. I smiled and couldn’t help if it looked a little evil. I mean come on, shopping with Sesshomaru, oh yes I was evil.
‘Come in,’ I called happily.
He opened the door and stepped inside, he looked down at me warily. Was it from last night or was it the evil grin plastered on my face.
‘Good morning Sesshomaru,’ I said and rose to clean up the dishes. There wasn’t a moment to waste, we could shop, I could pick his brain for information and I wouldn’t have to worry about my family overhearing us.
‘Good morning Lady Kagome, I take it you slept well.’ He sounded apprehensive, no he sounded suspicious.
I looked over at him still standing in the open doorway letting the chilled breeze in. He was wearing black dress slacks and another dress shirt, this one was a soft blue that accented the crescent moon peeking out from behind his bangs. My smile dimmed a little at the guarded expression. After last night he wasn’t going to trust me with his emotions. Did I mention the incident, I tried to apologize but he wouldn’t let me.
No the only way I was going to get that soft smile again was to show him I trusted him. Which would take time, and now we had plenty of that.
‘Not really but I’m going to try and stay positive about this,’ I said I didn’t feel quite as chipper as I had a moment ago.
He nodded, ‘I would expect nothing less from you. You have always been persistently happy despite the odds.’
I blushed, ‘thanks I guess. Okay first thing am I needed anywhere today?’
His eyes narrowed slightly, ‘no.’
I clapped I couldn’t help it, the look on his face was too funny, did he know what I had planned? ‘Since there is nothing for me to do and I need to get a handle on this world I propose we go exploring.’
His eyes narrowed to mere slits, ‘and where exactly should we explore?’
Oh yes he knew exactly what was going on. ‘Do you mind?’
He smirked, oh a girl could swoon. ‘I would happily escort you to the mall Lady Kagome. Though with the completed Shikon inside you I’m afraid you will draw a lot of unwanted attention.’
I waived the thought away, ‘easily remedied I learned how to suppress my aura a long time ago.’
He nodded and closed the door, ‘when shall we leave?’
Soon, but, crap. Shopping included money and I lacked that. My shoulders slumped, Mom would probably lend me some but I didn’t want to ask her for it even if we were wealthy.
‘What’s wrong?’
‘I don’t have any money,’ well I could still window shop right?
He laughed, a short burst that rumbled through his chest. I looked up at him with wide eyes. ‘Lady Kagome your wallet is in your night stand your bank account can afford anything you wish to buy.’
A large bank account? Mine? This is too unreal, ‘what if I wanted to buy a house?’ I challenged jokes are a good way to get info.
He raised an eyebrow, ‘I’m sure your parents meant the money for college but it would pay for a house.’
‘So I have college tuition money I can’t use that to go shopping,’ I said.
‘They made sure that you would be able to devote all your time to studying Lady Kagome, let’s go shopping and find whatever put that sparkle in your eye before.’ He sat down at the table.
‘You are quite the charmer,’ I whispered, who would’ve thought the Aristocratic Assassin and cold hearted demon of the past could be so nice. ‘Did you have breakfast? I can make more eggs and boil some water for tea.’
‘No thank you Lady Kagome I ate before I came here. Do you have any questions before we go?’
‘Yeah, I do actually.’ He raised an eyebrow again. I plopped down on the other cushion at the table. ‘What’s with this Lady Kagome stuff?’
He studied me for a moment, ‘what would you prefer?’
What else was there, ‘Kagome, of course.’
‘Of course,’ but he didn’t sound happy. Great, another wonderfully painful revelation.
‘Lady Kagome or Lady Kagome Higurashi miko and protector of the Shikon no Tama are the only names I am permitted to call you. I am your guard and a demon and I am not allowed such familiarity with you.’ There was that ghost in his eyes again.
‘That makes no sense you’re Lord Sesshomaru of the Western Lands,’ I said.
‘Not anymore Lady Kagome,’ he said. ‘Not for a very long time. I am only Sesshomaru a demon you marked and now your guard.’ He held up his hand before I could ask. ‘Not now another time, you are happy and I will make sure you stay that way today.’
I wanted to protest but he seemed like he was pleading. I had to remember that this was hard on him too. ‘Alright Sesshomaru but I don’t like it. So when it’s just the two of us can we drop the formalities?’
He smiled and the ghost in his eyes dimmed, ‘very well La- Kagome.’
I smiled I couldn’t help myself yesterday I couldn’t stop crying now I was a grinning fool around this man. I shook my head and rose to get my wallet and jacket. ‘Let’s go shopping.’
I ran into my room and sure enough in my night stand was my wallet, filled with credit cards, cash and a bank card. I shook my head there is no way I would’ve done this. As much as I loved the mall I didn’t spend money frivolously, mainly I window shopped. This was excessive.
I pulled out my gray pea coat along with my simple black purse and put the wallet inside. I had to admit to being curious to exactly how much money was saved up for college. My mother always gave Souta and me more than she could afford just to see us happy. If they had money it was a little scary thinking of what she would give us if we asked.
Did I have a pony as a child? I was afraid to ask.
I walked back out into the kitchen. Sesshomaru was still sitting at the table but my mother had taken my place at the table. I hadn’t heard her come in. She turned to me smiling but from the look on his face their conversation hadn’t been one of pleasantries.
I smiled back at her and tried to ignore the tension between them. I don’t know how I didn’t notice it at dinner last night, I had been too caught up in my own worries perhaps. But now the tension was so thick I felt like I saw swimming in it as I walked toward them.
‘Good morning,’ I said and kissed her on the cheek.
‘Morning Kagome,’ she replied. ‘I had just come by to check on you. Sesshomaru tells me you want to go shopping.’
I nodded, ‘is that alright? Do you need help with the shrine? I just thought it would be nice to get out and try and get my mind off of yesterday.’
‘We don’t need help today Kagome, you’re Grandfather is more than capable of handling the visitors. Are you sure it is safe though?’ She asked. It was so strange; she was like a split personality. At times the kind woman I loved but there was a coldness to her. I had felt it last night and even now while she was so very much my beloved mother it was like every word had a different meaning toward Sesshomaru.
‘I’ll be fine Mom I know how to hide the Shikon and Sesshomaru will be there as well,’ I smiled brightly and glanced at Sesshomaru, she frowned but tried to hide it when I looked directly at her. She didn’t like him. Why?
‘Alright dear, I agree you need some time to your own thoughts. When you feel ready we will go to the court together.’ She rose up and kissed my cheek, ‘enjoy yourself Kagome.’
‘Thanks Mom,’ I waived as she walked out the kitchen door. Once it was shut I looked back at the tense demon sitting before me. ‘Why doesn’t she like you?’
‘She does not dislike me,’ he said. I waited for him to elaborate. He rose from his seat and opened the door. ‘Let’s go.’
I slipped on my shoes, ‘what were you two talking about?’
He walked through the door. I followed and closed the door behind me. The cool air blew my hair into my face. I buttoned the coat closed and tucked the strands behind my ear. He began walking around to the front of the house and I had to jog to catch up. ‘Don’t ignore the question Sesshomaru.’
He glanced down at me then returned to scanning the area, ‘I suggest you conceal your aura now instead of later Lady Kagome.’
Oops, I quickly drew the energy around me like a second layer of skin and imagined a thin barrier around it. It wasn’t impenetrable like other barriers but it was virtually undetectable so that while it hid my aura and that of the Shikon you couldn’t feel the magic at work, since that would defeat the purpose.
He nodded saying I had done well I guess. Grandpa was tending to a small group of tourists answering questions and lecturing about history. I waived to him but he was too enthralled in his tale to notice. Crazy old man or crazy Sidhe he still loved his history. Perhaps being immortal he loved it even more, if that was even possible.
We walked to the steps that led down. Mom was sitting on a chair reading a book on the porch I waived and she smiled in return. ‘Have a good time.’
We walked down the steps in silence, my back tingled. I couldn’t believe it she was spying on us. I had to fight not to look back as we made it down the steps. There were several cars parked along the curb under signs marked reserved.
‘Are you driving or would you like me to?’ Sesshomaru asked.
I had just gotten my license before I left last time. The college I was going to attend was a 2 hour commute through the bus and trains so it had been necessary to learn how to drive. But I didn’t have a lot of practice or confidence. ‘If you wouldn’t mind.’ I tried not to glance at the empty sleeve. I had no doubt that he didn’t have any trouble despite missing a limb. I was pretty sure if he couldn’t do something he would work at it until he could perform the task with perfect ease.
He pulled out a small set of keys and pressed an alarm button. At the end of the row of parked cars I saw the lights flash on a white Nissan Altima. I followed him over to it and slid into the car when he held the door for me keeping the questions inside my mouth while he put his swords in the trunk.
I looked back up at the shrine, my mother was still on the porch with the book in hand though she could only be more obvious if it was upside down. Out of everyone she was the most changed and I couldn’t understand why. Was it my punishment for tampering with time? They gave me back my father but changed my mother?
I should be thankful, I should be happy to have both my parents alive and well but what had put that distrustful look on her face? I continued to stare up at her until Sesshomaru started the engine and drove away.
He drove with perfect ease as predicted the car seemed to be made for him or maybe they were just made more convenient these days, the right and left turn signals were located on the floor so that he could signal with his left foot but most of the gadgets were simple put between the passenger and drive so that he could easily access everything.
‘What were you two talking about?’
His eyes didn’t move from the road, ‘Lady Izumi expressed her concern for you safety.’
Translation she had quietly chewed him out about last night, I dropped the subject. Needless to say this morning’s cheerful mood was quickly going into the trash. I looked out the window as Sesshomaru drove us to the mall. All throughout the city I could see minutes changes, restaurants that had never been there. It was more rural in areas. There were more parks.
Strangely there were still a lot of humans. A lot of humans, there were flashes of demonic energy and shops that seemed to be for demons and ‘Fey’ only others that were human only. Others even advertised a diversity of clientele. ‘There is racial segregation?’ I asked as I continued to make the world pass by and cataloguing the differences.
‘Not officially but, there is tension, demons and fey are both immortal creatures with superior strength as well as other abilities that the humans do not possess. However, the humans outnumber the both races by a substantial margin and through a long struggle have been able dictate a lot our existence.’ He explained.
‘Is it like that everywhere,’ we pulled into the parking lot it was one of the more crowded sides of the mall but it was also a parking lot for the pet store. I smiled, ah puppies.
‘Yes to a greater or lesser extent. Japan and the United States are the last countries that accept the Sidhe and both have guidelines you must follow or else you will be banished from the country. Japan is the only country that allows demons and the laws put on us are even more stringent because of their fear of the past.’ He pulled into a spot.
It was kind of sad but I could understand it, our group lived off the money we made exterminating demons that reeked havoc on towns and we lived quite well, there was always work to be done and always a rogue demon or two on the side. I understood there fear very well.
But was it right?
He shut off the car and I opened the door to get out but his hand grasped my left arm and stopped me. I looked back into his very serious golden eyes. ‘What?’
‘I meant what I said before Kagome do not worry about anything today. Enjoy today please.’ His face was so close to mine in the small car the look in his eyes was so raw it made me blush. ‘Let me see you smile again.’
I took my hand from the door and placed it on top of his I wasn’t sure I could push all my questions aside for a whole day but I needed this so much had happened in such a short time, I was so lost and strangely Sesshomaru was my anchor. I smiled it was just too strange to depend on this man, who hadn’t existed in the future until recently, for an anchor to this world and to sanity.
‘Alright Sesshomaru, I’ll try.’ I squeezed his hand lightly then stepped out of the car. The cold air danced around my heated skin. ‘To the puppies,’ I declared and saw him shake his head.
He popped the trunk and slipped his swords around his waist.
‘You’re going to bring those in the mall?’ I asked in an almost shrieking tone. He had to be joking.
He arched an eyebrow, as if saying do I ever go anywhere without them? He wasn’t joking. ‘You’re allowed to carry swords wherever you go?’
He lifted up a small badge that had an image of a falcon on it before he clipped it to his shirt. ‘This states that I am a royal guard of the Sidhe and allows me to carry whatever reasonable weapon I deem necessary to protect my charge.’
‘But I’m not royal,’ I think.
He closed the trunk and began walking through the rows of cars and I quickly followed. ‘Your father is the head of his house in the court. Though normally you would not have a royal guard your status as the Shikon Miko required that you have at least one. The public story is that you have a guard because you are Queen Celeste’s personal miko.’
‘Queen Celeste? Is she the master of um clouds and birds by any chance?’
He nodded, ‘you remember?’
I shook my head, ‘no she came to Japan in the feudal era looking for me. It was because of her I decided to seal the well. She told me I was tampering with time and boy was she right.’ I was so stupid.
‘That was why they came here,’ he sounded thoughtful.
‘What do you mean?’ I don’t know how one trip to Japan had changed so much though it was probably a whole slew of events, I was a contamination to the past.
‘Another time Lady Kagome,’ he said and held the door open for me. His eyes moved around slowly searching for threats.
‘Another time? Sesshomaru don’t you get it I did something in the past the changed my future drastically and I have no idea what I’m supposed to do. I have so many questions, everything is so unfamiliar. I know you want me to be happy today, I do too but I also want answers.’ I looked up at him and could feel my eyes burning with tears. ‘I feel so lost.’
He let go of the door and pulled me into a hug so fast I could barely see him move. I wrapped my arms around his waist and pushed back the tears. He smelled like a wild forest, like the world had been 500 years ago, so wild and dangerous but I had spent so many days and nights in those forests it had become a welcome sanctuary.
He didn’t hold me for very long and stepped back as abruptly as he had held me, though his scent clung to me. His eyes were hard as he opened the door again and glared at the people inside the store that were staring at us, one person was trying to hide their camera. Why take a picture of us?
I tried to ignore them as we walked past them toward the sounds of happy barks. I pushed back my questions, he wouldn’t answer them anyway. He was too determined to see me happy today and whatever had happened that made the Sidhe come to Japan had not been happy or he would’ve just told me.
The back wall was made entirely of Plexiglas to separate the customers from the dogs. I quickly scanned through the upper cages of little yipyaps that the Japanese were so fond of and ideal for apartment life and then moved to the lower, larger cages. There in the corner were to puppies that I wanted to get my hands on.
The Rottweiler puppies were sleeping one on top of the other. They were still so small which meant they were new and still very young. I walked over and knelt in front of them, they were so cute. The one on the bottom was dreaming, its little paws twitching as it dreamt of running through open fields. ‘aww they’re so precious.’
One of the workers opened the cage inside and quickly pulled them out of the cage. I watched them go with sad eyes and heard a distinct masculine chuckle behind me. I looked up at him, ‘what’s so funny?’
He ignored me and looked at the other end of the wall. I followed his gaze and found the worker, a young girl with short brown hair. The two puppies were now fully awake and licking her face with much enthusiasm. She put them down inside one of the small rooms for people to view them and play with them. I envied the people who got to play with such adorable puppies.
She left the puppies in the room and walked towards us smiling, ‘just call me when you’re ready.’ The girl, her name tag read Suki, said before she moved to another customer.
I looked up at Sesshomaru who was smiling at me, ‘your precious puppies await you Lady Kagome.’ He was just too good to be true.
I got up and had to hold myself back from attacking him with hugs. ‘How many times have I dragged you here?’
‘I have lost count, go play with them Lady Kagome,’ he said.
I didn’t have to be told twice, like a kid in a candy store I practically ran to the two waiting pups in the small room. They were wrestling on the ground when I opened the door but immediately stopped and looked up at me with a floppy ear still caught in one of their mouths. Then they scrambled to their feet and ran towards me, slipping and sliding along the way.
They were the liveliest puppies I’d ever seen at a pet shop. I bent down and scooped them up before they could escape. I moved farther into the room while they attacked my face from either side with their tongues. The door closed, I turned to show off their cuteness to Sesshomaru but he wasn’t there.
His loss, I kissed the two little cuties and put them back on the floor. They were so soft, the black and tan markings were almost exactly the same though one was slightly blockier than the other. I played with them, giggling at their antics, and forgetting my problems until Sesshomaru knocked on the door.
He opened it a crack and I held the bigger one, dubbed Bruno, back from trying to escape while ‘Pongo’ slumbered happily in my lap. He didn’t look into the room and only left the door open enough to talk.
‘We should be moving on Lady Kagome,’ he sounded a little annoyed. Were the employees hassling him for their puppies back or was he scaring away customers? Maybe I was just being annoying cooing over two puppies while the largest dog to ever be seen was standing on the other side of the door. I had to hold back the snort of laughter, Sesshomaru put out because I was showing attention to other dogs. Yeah right.
We gave back the dogs to Suki, albeit reluctantly on my part. Then we walked back across the parking lot to the main mall.
‘Do you have another destination in mind?’ he asked once we got inside the mall. I looked around in awe and was so very glad I did not come here alone. The building was the same but inside, I didn’t recognize any of the stores in front of me.
‘Is there still a bookstore in here?’ I asked. Damn it all. The high from the pet shop was gone I wanted to run back to my little apartment and never come out. The store in the front was comprised of high fashion designers and had both formal and semi formal outfits. Across from it was a jewelry store that tailored to the same small group of people that could afford the clothes. There was a restaurant next to it that was probably didn’t look like it served mall food.
Where were the WacDonalds and Spencers Gifts? Maybe they were in another section; please be in another section.
‘It’s on the second floor,’ he led the way through the mass of people as they paused to stare at us. I had to walk right next to him so we wouldn’t get separated. The humans seemed enthralled, like they could help but stare in wonder as we walked past them.
It was so unnerving, how could I get lost in the crowd if the crowd parted for us? ‘What are they staring at?’ I whispered pretty sure he would hear me.
‘Ignore them Lady Kagome they cannot help themselves,’ he said he kept his head high and continued to search for threats aware of the movement of those around us.
‘Why can’t they help it?’ I asked, ‘it’s rude.’ I said and glared at a person that was a little too obvious as we walked past, they he didn’t seem to notice or feel embarrassed at being caught.
‘Do you wish to leave?’ he asked.
Yes I really really wanted to get the hell away from these people but I wanted a book on the Sidhe. Correction I needed the book. ‘Yes but I want to go to the bookstore first.’
He nodded and continued walking to the escalators in which he made me get on in front of him and stood so close that his chest rubbed against my arm. His warmth was radiating off of him and I had to fight the urge to lean into him.
Thankfully we reached the top and I got off but he didn’t let us gain any distance from each other as he led me through the mall he kept me on his left side and I continued to brush against the stump of his arm accidentally.
I learned very quickly back in the feudal era that you didn’t mention his arm. I had tried to apologize for it one night. Big mistake! He had been very insulted which back then meant death threats and possible attacks.
The touch didn’t really bother me it was comforting and a reminder that I wasn’t alone in the midst of all these humans. Humans, was I really already separating myself from them? I guess it was only logical since they were definitely separating me from them.
‘Your friends are approaching,’ Sesshomaru said.
‘Huh?’ I looked around, did I know them?
My names was shouted through the mall by three familiar girly voices, I turned back around and found Eri, Yuka and Ayumi running towards us waving. My wonderful human unchanged friends, at least that is what it seemed.
They stopped in front of us grinning, ‘Hi Kagome, how long have you been back?’ Eri asked.
‘Yeah, why didn’t you call us?’ Yuka said.
‘Hi Kagome hi Sesshomaru,’ Ayumi blushed as her eyes flicked to his tall form.
‘Ladies Lady Kagome returned late last night from America and has not had a chance to settle in yet,’ Sesshomaru smoothly gave my excuse. Let’s hear it for no more fake illness!
‘Yeah I was going to call you guys tonight, see if you wanted to go see a movie or something this weekend. I still haven’t finished unpacking.’ I said.
‘Well you’re here now where were you guys headed,’ Eri asked.
‘Um the book store,’ I replied.
‘Really? What were you going to get?’ Ayumi asked.
‘Oh I just thought I would browse around,’ I waived my hands in front of me.
‘Who cares about that I want to hear about your trip to the American Sithens, did you visit the Seelie or the Unseelie this time?’ Yuka asked.
‘Yeah or were you there to see Princess Meredith, I can’t believe she came out of hiding,’ Eri was clearly deep in gossip mode. I had no clue what they were talking about. A princess in America, they were democratic they don’t have princesses.
‘The newspapers say she’s searching for a husband among the Unseelie guard,’ Ayumi said.
‘Oh man did you see their pictures, they are so hot,’ Yuka gushed.
I needed to get out of here, they were the masters of gossip and as much useful information they had it would be lost in translation since I would never be able to ask what the hell was going on. I looked up at Sesshomaru who seemed to be studiously ignoring the three girls and looking around us. Rigid and quiet, a perfect guard and no help in getting away from them, damn.
They were debating something, which was the cuter of the American Sidhe guard that this princess had chosen to try and become pregnant with one of them. It didn’t really make sense since most of their sentences were half formed before the next would jump in about another one. Maybe we could just back away slowly, or Sesshomaru could use his demonic speed to whisk us away.
‘What do you think Kagome?’ Eri asked.
Crap, I looked back at them and heard Yuka giggle.
‘I think we knew who Kagome thinks is the hottest,’ Yuka laughed and Eri joined in.
What had I missed? Which one was hotter of the guards? Oh. I blushed from head to toe which earned snickers from the evil trio. Crap, yes Sesshomaru was hot but he was my guard and well Sesshomaru. I didn’t want to look up at him.
‘Wow Kagome you are really red,’ Eri said she looked amazed.
‘I didn’t think Sidhe could blush that much,’ Ayumi commented I shot her a death glare, I was going to kill them all.
‘What gives Kagome you’ve told us plenty of times you thought he was attractive,’ Yuka said then her eyes went wide and she looked up at him then back at me. ‘You didn’t.’
I didn’t what? Were they all crazy? There was no way I would confess an attraction to Sesshomaru In. Front. Of. Him.
‘I don’t know what put that look on your face Yuka but I can only assume it is wrong,’ I said through clenched teeth.
‘Sorry Kagome, I just thought,’
Sesshomaru cut her off, ‘Lady Kagome we need to hurry your mother wished for your return shortly.’
I nodded, ‘I’ll call you guys later.’ I waved goodbye and ignored the strange looks on their faces. No the looks weren’t strange I knew those looks all too well they thought they had juicy gossip. But I didn’t understand what that gossip was.
He led me into Borders and let me wander around through the stacks though he always remained close. It didn’t take me long to find the section I needed, Japan’s history. From there I guess Sesshomaru figured out what I wanted because he pulled a book from the shelves and handed it to me.
It was labeled ‘The Demon Fey War’. It depicted two beings clashing swords underneath the title. I looked up at him as I took the large book from his hand. A war of course that was why he didn’t want to talk about it and since I was Lady Kagome and he was Sesshomaru I was pretty sure what the ending was.
‘You will probably find it boring but it is the most accurate account and discusses the reasons behind the war and the treaty between our races.’ He said and quickly took out a much thinner book that was a plain black cover and had simple print on it that read ‘The Tale of the Shikon no Tama’ by Miroku Tsujitani.
I took the book from his hand, Miroku wrote a book about the Shikon no Tama?
‘His grandson was a great scholar and decided to transcribe your group’s journey though you are said to come from the mainland and not the future. I thought you might like to read it.’ He said.
I nodded, ‘thank you.’ They had grandchildren oh Miroku must’ve been so happy to have little lechers running around Japan following in their father’s footsteps of groping women’s bottoms. ‘is there anything else you would recommend?’
‘No there isn’t much written on your culture Kagome the fey are a very private
people and prefer to keep their ways to themselves. You are free to ask me anything you like.’ He motioned toward the cashier.
I stood on line and tried by best to ignore everyone, there were only two people ahead of me but it felt like forever before it was my turn to pay. I placed the books on the counter and waited for him to ring them up, and waited.
I looked up and found the girl staring at me in wonder. Shifting slightly I cleared my throat but she just continued to stare.
‘Girl,’ Sesshomaru said, the warning clear. She blinked as if she were trying to wake up from a dream but she continued to stare at me.
I looked up at Sesshomaru, ‘what is going on?’
He growled, ‘I will explain later.’ He moved in front of me so that I was completely blocked from the cashiers view. His tail wrapped around my right wrist and I heard the blip of the cash register as she scanned the books. Why could she concentrate on her job with him standing there but not me? He had said the humans couldn’t help it but Ayumi, Eri and Yuka didn’t seem to have a problem.
He paid for the books and ushered me out of the store with his tail lightly wrapped around my wrist. Once we were out of the store he stopped gave me the bag of books. ‘Do you mind if I use a quicker method to get to the car? Your presence is attracting a lot of attention.’
‘I’m shielding its aura and mine,’ I said.
‘I know but apparently that is not enough anymore,’ his tail left my wrist but the warmth lingered.
I nodded, I didn’t want to be here anymore, I didn’t want to be stared at. He wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me close. I put my arms around his neck and felt the air move around us, I didn’t dare look we were moving so fast. Within moments we were standing outside in the cold by his car.
He stepped away from me and disarmed the alarm, I got into the car and waited for him to put his swords in the trunk and get in the car. I looked at myself in the side mirror, I was pretty, my eyes though strange I had to admit were beautiful, the colors blended nicely and my hair only helped accent them. The golden skin should’ve looked wrong with the dark colors but instead it acted as a nice balance so it wasn’t too dark and cold.
The door shut and I looked over at Sesshomaru, he was focused on starting up the car and pulling out of the parking spot. Which I realized must be a little difficult since he couldn’t turn around and keep his hand on the wheel.
‘Why were they staring at me?’ I asked.
‘Humans are weak willed creatures and can be easily enchanted by the Sidhe. The magic inside you attracts them to you like moths to a flame. I am told that the Sidhe in America are not as dangerous to humans since they had to shed a lot of their magic in order to live there.’ Sesshomaru explained as he drove through the lot and back out onto the street. ‘Japan could not force you to do the same since the fey controlled the demons and would be in danger if they lost too much of their powers.’
‘How do I keep from bespelling them?’
‘I don’t know I am not Sidhe, demons have never had a magical pull to them unless it was an active ability.’ He glanced at me, ‘Do you wish to go home?’
I looked at the clock it was only noon, if we went home I would be stuck in the apartment because it was only a matter of time before I screwed up and they figured out that something was off. ‘No but where could we go?’
‘Leave that to me,’ he said.
He drove out of the main part of the city and into a less populated area. I was quiet for awhile and content to watch the scenery pass us by but that clerk’s face was haunting me. ‘What else can Sidhe do?’
‘Many things,’ he replied.
‘Like?’ He was down closed mouthed for someone who said he would answer my questions,, old habits die hard I suppose.
‘The magical pull that draws humans is called glamour, for our kind it is a passive magical but most of you can use it actively to alter their appearance, make them more beautiful. It is illegal to use active glamour on humans.’ He turned onto a small road that wound up into the hill surrounded by forest on both sides.
‘There are other talents that most Sidhe seem to have and then once they come of age they receive a hand of power through battle or sex they come into formidable power that they can channel through one of their hands. If they are powerful enough they gain two hands of power.’
‘When do they come of age?’
‘It is different for each Sidhe,’ he was dancing around the answer.
‘Have I come into my hand of power?’ I asked.
He shook his head, ‘if you do not remember then I cannot tell you, Queen Celeste was very careful with you since you were born and I will not risk her anger if something I say changes you.’
‘How could knowing what I can or cannot do change me?’
‘It is very complicated Kagome, she has held many secret meetings with you and done a lot of odd things when it came to you. I was one of her guards for centuries but when you were born I was restricted to certain areas. Queen Celeste made certain that you would not know me when before you went into the past. She is the reason your family runs a shrine in Tokyo instead of living inside the Sithen.’
She didn’t want to change the future, she remembered our meeting and assumed that I was raised outside the Sithen and raised as a human so she made sure that had happened. Then because she didn’t know what happened in the past between me and Sesshomaru she made sure that the first time I met him was in the past. Or did she know? Maybe he told her what he knew of my life in the past? But how had she known that we knew each other if she hadn’t permitted him to see me since birth?
‘Sidhe also have the ability to contact each other through mirrors,’ he said as if it had just occurred to him. I quickly glanced in all the mirrors and glared at him when he chuckled.
‘So they just appear in mirrors, how do they find the person they want to contact?’ I asked.
‘I am not truly certain, but I believe that they use visualization and their image is sent to the recipient if they are close to a mirror.’ He explained.
‘What if they aren’t close to a mirror?’
‘Then they cannot contact them but there are other more primitive methods,’ he smirked.
‘I’m almost afraid to ask,’ this world was just too strange, magic and technology mixed together should just not happen.
‘If they can’t reach person through a mirror call then they can use blood on a blade and call another person’s blade. The image is not as clear but it is a very effective form a communication.’ He said.
‘Haven’t the Sidhe heard of cell phones?’ Seriously, blood on a blade just to make a freaking phone call, ewwww.
‘Technology does not work inside the Sithen, cell phones are useless to the Sidhe, I thought after three years in Feudal Japan blood didn’t bother you anymore,’ he said though it sounded like teasing. But Sesshomaru wouldn’t tease.
‘Healing wounds and surviving is one thing but to draw blood just so you can say hi is just wrong.’
‘They do not use such methods the way humans use their phones Kagome, blood is a precious thing and though a small cut does not harm them they only use that method in extreme cases.’ Sesshomaru said.
‘Oh, but why a blade?’
‘The magic needs a reflective surface and while not everyone can be near a mirror most Sidhe carry blades on them.’ He turned down another road. I could feel the demons inhabiting each house as we drove through the small town.
It was almost one o’clock when he pulled into a short driveway in front of a small semi modern house. ‘Where are we?’
‘My home,’ he said and turned off the car.
I looked up at the modern house with traditional Japanese touches, it was a nondescript house, there was nothing special to point it out and say there that is where the demons lived. I had never seen where he lived in the past he seemed to always wander but so had we and we still had a place to return to.
He got out of the car and I followed him. While he retrieved his swords I looked around at the little demon town. Though town may have been too strong of a word. The yards were huge enough that their auras didn’t mingle with each other, like they range of their aura marked their territory. Yes that was it, each house was individual and the amount of land that they owned seemed to equal the range of their aura.
But, Sesshomaru’s yard wasn’t much larger than the rest. I remember the feeling of his energy when he was about to transform, he could’ve owned this entire area. Maybe I jumped to the wrong conclusion maybe they held their aura back from their neighbors property out of respect, but then why bother to fill their yard with their aura.
Sesshomaru closed the trunk and walked up the lawn toward the front door. I quickly followed feeling a sort of excitement at getting to see where he lived.
Ever the gentleman he held the door open for me. I walked into the house and took off my shoes in the foyer before quickly moving into the living room.
Which looked like a normal living room. Why was I disappointed? It was a large room and the walls were traditional shoji screens. There was an entertainment center almost identical to my own with a small white sofa in the corner and cushions next to a small writing table. It was all so ordinary, I think I was expecting oh I don’t even know antiques from his travels. Maybe a dartboard with Inuyasha’s face on it. Maybe that was in his bedroom.
I had to cover my mouth to hold back the laughter that shook in my body at the image of him throwing darts at an image of Inuyasha repeatedly saying ‘Die Inuyasha’ with each dart. I think I’m losing it.
‘What is so amusing about my living room?’ Sesshomaru asked.
‘Nothing,’ speaking spilled the giggles from my mouth. I shook my head and tried to stop laughing but I just couldn’t. I was so very tempted to run to his bedroom and search for the absurd dart board.
He raised an eyebrow at me and I just shook my head as the giggling episode began to subside. ‘Sorry Sesshomaru, I think I may be going crazy.’
‘There is no question about your sanity Kagome,’ he smirked.
‘Do you mind if I look around?’
‘Make yourself at home Kagome,’ he moved closer to me and his eyes softened. My breath caught as he stopped a few inches from me and he looked down at me. ‘You are welcome here whenever you feel the need to escape from the world.’
‘Isn’t that the coward’s way? To run and hide in safety when things get too much?’ That’s what he had told me the last time I ever tried to go home because Inuyasha had broken my heart one too many times. Sesshomaru had been there when I returned from catching Inuyasha with Kikyo, when I told him I was going home for a few days he had accused me of cowardice. Now he was offering me a sanctuary from my family, from this new world, and I didn’t know why.
I didn’t know why for so many things he did, I didn’t do anything to deserve this level of kindness from him. But I didn’t want to throw it back in his face.
‘Everyone at one point or another needs time to collect themselves in order to find the strength to do what they must,’ he replied with what I had told him all those centuries ago when I had decided would let my love for Inuyasha change to that of a brother. It had been surprisingly easy once I let go and that had let me know it was the right choice. He had remembered that night, why?
‘Even you almighty demon lord?’ I meant it as a snarky come back because I could feel the weight in his words and his gaze and I wasn’t ready for it.
‘Funny,’ though he didn’t sound amused.
‘Sorry but title or not you will always be a lord to me,’ I said.
A smile flashed across his face but it didn’t stay. ‘Explore to your heart’s content Kagome I will make some lunch.’
I smiled, ‘thank you Sesshomaru.’
I moved past him examining every crevasse for what he was hiding, the living room didn’t show anything but that didn’t stop me it was a mask of normalcy but somewhere in this house had to be the essence that made it a home and not just a building.
Stalking into the hallway I should’ve felt like a rude guest sneaking through the medicine cabinet but his amused chuckle followed my trek down the short hallway past the normal looking kitchen. So bland, so not him. It was white and black and the epitome of the sterile look that was the new fad.
I moved on and left Sesshomaru in the kitchen to make lunch he knew I liked baths and puppies I’m sure he won’t make something I hate.
The door on the right was a bathroom, there was finally some color, the walls and tiled floor were white but the bath mats and towels were a midnight blue. There was a beautiful painting above the toilet of the night sky with a full moon shining down on a forest.
I quickly moved on to the next room which was a large study with a low mahogany desk in the middle of the room, the walls were lined with books and old scrolls. I took my time in here since it was the first room I found that actually felt used.
There was an open book on the desk. I turned to the cover which read ‘The Reluctant Mr. Darwin’ by David Quammen. I didn’t think Sesshomaru would care about the life of a human scientist. Besides if he wanted to know him couldn’t he have just talked with him when he was alive? I put the book back and looked around the room again.
There was a large portrait of Rin facing the desk so that he could glance up from where he sat and see his daughter. She sat in the sunlight with a crown of daisies in her hair and a smudge of dirt on her cheek. She was smiling, lifting her face to the sun in childish glee. It was so beautiful and life like it could’ve been a photo.
I would’ve never taken him to be an artist but no one else could’ve captured her like that, it was so utterly Rin. He really truly loved her and probably missed her every day.
I left the room and moved to the next if I continued to look at her I would cry and Sesshomaru would smell it and ask why and I didn’t want to bring up that very painful subject again.
The next room was his bedroom. It was like two different buildings, there was the bland doll house that made up the rest of the house and then there was this dark intimate setting. I closed the door behind be, shutting out the rest of the house. The walls were a beige color with accents of maroon throughout the room, the molding the thick dark curtains, the bedding was all maroon making the room seem darker than it was.
His bed was the biggest bed I’d ever seen it was larger than a king size but didn’t even take up a third of the room. In the right corner was a full length mirror that was surrounded but various paintings of landscapes and some more of Rin.
There was a bookcase in here as well and stood next to his dresser. Over the dresser hung an empty case that I guess was when he put his swords when he slept. On the other side of the dresser was a large traditional armoire.
The sounds of a flock of birds flapping their wings filled the room before a woman appeared in the mirror. I screamed before I could stop myself.
The door opened behind me and I looked away from the woman in the mirror to Sesshomaru who entered the room and sheathed his sword before dropping to both knees and bowing to the mirror.
‘Greeting Queen Celeste Master of clouds and birds,’ Sesshomaru said from his place on the floor. I looked back at the woman in the mirror, it was her. Her long hair was up in a mass of curls that gave the illusion of dark clouds forming on top of her head. She wore an old fashioned gray ball gown. You know the corset that pushed up her small breasts and forced woman to breathe in shallow breaths of faint. The wide skirt was dark gray with a sheer green material covering it.
She looked down at Sesshomaru, ‘get up Sesshomaru this is not a formal call.’ She looked up at me and her eyes narrowed to slits. ‘Greetings Miko Kagome,’ she said.
Um, crap was I supposed to bow like Sesshomaru? I was Sidhe not a demon guard, I stood a little straighter and gave a polite bow while I prayed I did the right thing. ‘Greetings, Queen Celeste.’ I rose from the bow and looked into her image. It was such a realistic image I had an urge to go and touch the mirror but stayed where I was. She didn’t look happy.
‘Your mother has informed me that you have sealed the well, as I told you in the past I would find you when you came back. Tell me Kagome how much have you changed the future?’ She asked. She was sitting on a large bed the covers were a light blue with silver pillows artfully placed around her.
‘You were right, I have changed a lot. So much I’m not really sure where to begin.’ I answered, there was no reason to hide it from her she was the reason I came back in the first place.
‘Start with the biggest change Kagome and we will go from there, though there is nothing we can do to rectify time,’ she said.
The biggest change was the one that I of course didn’t want to share how do you tell people they didn’t exist? ‘If we can’t change it back then what does it matter what is done is done.’ I tried to convey with my eyes that I didn’t wish to tell her.
She rose from the bed and move closer to the mirror, ‘you will tell me what your hiding Kagome now before I lose my patience.’ Before she lost her patience? She looked royally pissed already.
‘I guess the biggest difference well,’ I glanced at Sesshomaru who stood and turned to look at me clearly curious as well. Damn it all to hell and back why was it so hard to tell them? They were alive and well now and it would explain to Sesshomaru why I didn’t remember this crap but I had just been wondering last night if I was supposed to exist in this new future. I didn’t want to know I wasn’t supposed to be here.
‘Don’t look at your guard girl tell me what you have done,’ I looked back at the mirror she was beginning to glow, a white light was emanating from her skin and her hair actually looked like glowing dark clouds. The blue yellow green and jade colors of her eyes were glowing and cast colored light across her face.
I looked into the frighteningly beautiful color of her face and answered her softly, ‘before I came back the Sidhe and Demons did not exist in this time.’
I looked over at Sesshomaru his eyes were wide with shock, ‘before I went back in time demons and fairies were fictional stories, legends.’
‘I remember when I met you that you insisted you were human but I felt your power Kagome you were never human despite what you believed,’ Celeste said, the glow was fading back inside her.
‘You don’t know that, something I did changed everything the only reason I am still around is something the Shikon did that prevented me from being wiped from this existence. I was human damn it and my mother was a kind gentle creature without a mean bone in her body.’ I shouted. ‘I had a good normal life.’ The room was lighting up.
I looked down at my hands that were glowing a soft gold like the sun was trying to shine out through my skin. ‘What’s going on?’ I asked I turned my hands over the palms were a lighter color. Did my hair glow to? I pulled strand in front of my face, it looked like the sky just before the last inch of the sun went down to leave the earth in total darkness.
Sesshomaru’s voice was closer than it should’ve been, it was soft and gentle as he explained. ‘Sidhe have what humans call an aura though we consider it a personal power that surrounds them. When they call their power by will or when they are experiencing strong emotions they emit a glow.’
‘Kagome,’ Celeste began and I looked up at her, she wasn’t glowing anymore and had gone back to sit on her bed. ‘I am sorry for doubting you Kagome. However, I warned you that your meddling was going to tamper with time though if you say that the Sidhe did not exist I must admit I am glad for the change.’
‘I agree, even if I had a choice I wouldn’t want to go back and stop whatever it is that I did,’ I glanced at Sesshomaru, no I was glad he was alive. ‘But I don’t know what I’m doing Sesshomaru is helping me understand everything but I still don’t know so much.’
‘Who else knows that you don’t remember this time?’ Celeste asked.
‘No one else knows, I don’t have the heart to tell me family,’ I said.
‘And what has happened to the Shikon no Tama?’ she asked.
‘It is back inside me,’ I said.
She nodded, ‘good you have done well Kagome, I agree that you should not tell your family the less people that know about this the better. Your ignorance could be used against you,’ I watched her eyes flick to Sesshomaru, didn’t she trust him? ‘I will help you in any way that I can Kagome.’
‘Thank you,’ The glow was fading, I watched it dim until it was just skin again.
Her eyes flashed with anger, ‘oh you have much to learn young one and your first lesson is this. Never thank a Sidhe we come from a different time Kagome and it is a grave insult to thank us.’
‘Why? I am only showing my gratitude,’ what kind of culture was I dropped into?
‘To thank someone for doing something is to imply that they did it for something in return and puts a question to their honor. Sesshomaru you have one week to teach her our ways it is the most time I can give her before they will begin to question her absence from our court.’ She stood up and walked back to the mirror so that she filled up the entire view. ‘I will come up with a way to explain your absence to you mother while you remain here until you are ready to act like a Sidhe.’
I looked up at Sesshomaru, ‘do you mind?’
‘He does not have a choice and will do as he is told,’ she said and the words were heated though she didn’t even look at him.
He bowed toward the mirror, ‘as my Queen commands so shallow I do.’
She nodded her approval, ‘I will check on your progress tomorrow.’
Suddenly the mirror was just a mirror again and I was staring back at myself, I looked like I was in shock hell I felt like I was in shock. I was going to be staying at Sesshomaru’s for a week? I looked over at him as he watched the mirror with caution.
‘If you mind I’ll go home,’ I said.
‘I don’t mind Kagome,’ he walked closer to me.
I had to crane my neck back slightly but not enough that it wasn’t uncomfortable. He still looked regal in his modern day clothes. It must’ve been hard for such a proud demon to be treated the way they seemed to treat him. Like dirt.
‘What is it?’ he asked.
‘It isn’t right,’ I said.
‘What isn’t right?’ he asked, his eyes were so gentle he was so open with me. Had they done that? Did they beat the pride from him? Would he think I pitied him?
I shook my head, ‘nothing, don’t worry about it. When do you want to start this training?’ Stick to the facts and I won’t crack.
‘I suppose we could begin after lunch,’ my stomach grumbled at the mention of food and he smirked. ‘Which is burnt but I will order delivery if you want to ask a question or two while we wait for it.’
‘Okay, sounds like a plan.’ I said. Oh man, ‘I don’t have a change of clothes or a toothbrush.’
‘I have some of your clothes here just as you have some of mine at your house, if you wish for anything in particular I can go fetch it later.’ I raised an eyebrow, did I stay here often? ‘I’ll order food and meet you in the living room or would you like some fresh air you look pale.
‘Outside would be nice,’ I said.
‘Do you feel alright?’ he asked as his eyes looked me over.
‘I’m fine, do you have a back yard?’
‘Of course,’ he smiled and walked over to a set of large curtains against the back wall and pulled a cord that opened them revealing a sliding glass door and beyond it a beautiful country landscape with a few trees throughout the land. It was beautiful. ‘I’ll be out shortly would you like a pair of sandals?’
I shook my head and bent down to take off my socks, I wanted to feel the grass under my feet. I slid the door open and the cool wind brushed against my face. I walked out into the backyard and heard the glass door shut behind me. There was an old easel by the door that looked like it had seen many years. In the middle of the yard under a large maple tree was a wrought iron table and chairs but other than that it was just a wide open space of Japan’s countryside.
I sat down in the grass and held my knees close to me so I could rest my head on my knees. Celeste had unknowingly done me a great favor I didn’t want to go back home yet. I really needed time not only to learn the culture but to adjust to this time and since I couldn’t go to my mother for support it would’ve just been harder.
Though I doubt that had been her reasons for doing it she was probably just afraid I would fuck up in front of my family and spill the beans that we were supposed to be humans. What would they say to that? Would they think I was crazy? Would they be insulted? Clearly the Sidhe thought they were better than the humans. From the looks on the clerks face today the humans might think that too.
And what was with that? She was fucking awed by me and I wasn’t even doing anything just trying to pay for some books. It didn’t seem to always be like that or well I would’ve never have been able to leave the house. So what had changed and how do I stop it?
The glass door slid open, I didn’t bother to look back I knew it was Sesshomaru. ‘What does the mark mean?’
He stopped to my right and gracefully sat down on the grass, ‘essentially it is a sign that I am bound to you, I will carry your mark forever it lets me know when you need me and I can use it to locate you if need be.’
Well at least it had a use and was just a stupid butterfly that I put on his face I mean it was blasphemy to put a mark on such a gorgeous face.
‘Do Sidhe normally mark each other,’ I asked.
‘In Japan it is still common enough but the other Sidhe around the world have lost that power and many others. The Sidhe here fear that their loss of power is somehow contagious and do not visit the other courts or have them visit us for any extended stays.’ He was looking off into the distance and the butterfly peeked out from behind his hair.
‘Why are they losing their power?’
‘They don’t know but they are dying none the less,’ he said. ‘Some believe it is because they are mixing their blood with different races. They haven’t had a full blooded Sidhe born in about a century.’
‘Who do they mix with?’ I turned a little so I could look at him but he continued to look ahead of us. His eyes weren’t constantly shifting and searching. I realized he felt secure here this was his home and even after so much had happened here it seemed he didn’t think anyone would dare try him on his own turf.
‘Lesser fey and humans, the Sidhe are the nobles and ruling class of fey society. To have a child that isn’t pure Sidhe is looked down upon and though children are very precious there was a time when any unwanted child from a single night of passion was left by the goblin mound.’ He said.
‘Goblins?’ he nodded. ‘What did the goblins do to them?’
‘Ate them,’ he said, so simple and matter of fact. I mean it wasn’t like we were talking about goblins eating unwanted babies what kind of sick world was this?
‘That’s horrible it’s, it’s inhuman,’ I cried out, how could they do such a thing?
He looked at me with a flat but eloquent look, ‘we are not human Kagome, don’t worry the practice is not as common as it used to be. Most of the babies that were left out in the cold were results of rapes from one of the wars. Now children, especially full blooded Sidhe children are rare enough that even the mongrels are accepted.’
‘They are not mongrels, how could you say that?’ I shook my head and stood up, I needed space between us for a minute. I had really thought he was different, kinder than he was back then and then he had to go and say something like that. ‘You still hate half-breeds don’t you?’ I really shouldn’t have been surprised.
He stayed sitting on the ground and didn’t even look up at me. ‘And if I did?’
I walked in front of him and stared down at him, that wasn’t an answer. ‘they can’t choose their parents, they don’t choose to be born.’
‘No they didn’t,’ he looked up at me then and there was a very familiar anger burning in his eyes. I had seen it many times over the years whenever he looked Inuyasha it was like he couldn’t hold it back from behind his mask.
‘So why hate them?’ I asked and met his anger with my own. I could feel it inside me heating me up, I glared down at him. This was the man that made Inuyasha’s life a living hell, though he wasn’t the only one he was the one who could’ve changed that pain.
He looked away first and instead of feeling triumphant and winning a staring match with the proud demon I felt a little low.
‘I don’t hate them Kagome I realized a long time ago what you have just said, they didn’t chose their parents. It was easier to hate the result instead of the people who were responsible for the act.’ He looked back up at me and the anger was still there but it felt more like embers a dying fire that he was trying to keep alive, why?
I knelt in front of him, he had blamed Inuyasha because he didn’t have time to blame his father. ‘After I left what happened with you two?’
‘I killed him.’
I punched him. My hand shot forward before I could think about it. He fell over from the force of the punch. ‘How could you?’
He straightened up and smirk, ‘he made me swear to tell you that if you ever asked.’ He chuckled.
‘You bastard,’ I was tempted to punch him again and see if I could make him bleed.
He held his hand up in front of him and I saw the golden light shining against his hand, I was glowing I took a minute to feel it. It was exactly like Sesshomaru had said the energy was inside me and was pushing out as if I was calling so much that my body couldn’t contain it.
‘We were able to get past our differences Kagome but as he grew older we both realized he would not live to see your time again and he made me swear to tell you I had killed him because in his old age his humor had become quite twisted.’ He rubbed his jaw lightly, ‘though maybe he knew what you would do.’
‘You are both assholes,’ I hissed.
‘Hn,’ he rose to his feet and looked down at me. ‘Lunch is here.’
I watched him walk away from me as I glowed, literally with righteous fury. He was probably right Inuyasha would know exactly what I would’ve done if he had killed my best friend. I would’ve purified Sesshomaru, or died trying.
I looked down at my glowing hand, he seemed genuinely pained from my punch. I couldn’t hurt anything with my fist before. Was I stronger now as well? It seemed like with immortality came strength. A smile crossed my lips and it wasn’t pleasant. No I definitely felt so sick satisfaction for being able to knock Sesshomaru on his ass with one punch.
I shook my head and rose from the ground. Time for lunch, and then we would begin this training: How to be Sidhe 101. I felt like Eliza Dolittle while Sesshomaru was Henry Higgins with only a week to transform me from a poor peasant girl into a duchess. A giggle fell from my lips as I entered the house whistling the tune to ‘Just you wait Henry Higgins.’ Oh yes just you wait this week was going to be fun.
