Chapter 6

She had been in her room for only ten minutes when her cell phone started to ring. “Hello?” she answered.

“Hey Kags, it’s Sango I was calling to see if you wanted to go shopping before work.”

“Sure, you want to go now?”

“Well of course, you know me and shopping.”

“Ok,” Kagome said with a laugh, “I’ll meet you at the mall in about half an hour.”

“See you there dear.”

Kagome hung up the phone and quickly gathered what she would need for work. It had been a while since she had time to go out shopping with Sango, she was actually pretty excited about it. As an afterthought she slid the paper with the pass code into her purse just in case and then proceeded to make her way down the stairs. She called out bye to her roommates as she passed the kitchen, but she wasn’t even sure if they heard her because of all of Inuyasha’s cursing and yelling. She skipped out to her car and headed off to the mall.

They had been shopping for over two hours and both of them were weighted down by bags. Kagome had managed to find quite a few cute new outfits, and she even found a nice dress for the employee party at the end of the week. “Sango, if we don’t stop to eat soon I am going to collapse,” Kagome said pouting at her best friend.

“Ok, ok, the food court is right there anyway. I swear, I don’t see how you can eat so much and still stay thin.”

“High metabolism?” Kagome said with a grin.

They made their way to the food court and ordered a pizza. As they sat there chattering Sango decided to spring the news. “Guess what. Tonight two of Miroku’s best friends are going to be at the club. They are supposedly rich and helped Miroku open the club in the first place. They also are two of the VIPs that are going to get a private audience with you.”

Kagome frowned, “I’m still not comfortable with the whole idea of private audiences, especially after last night.”

“Don’t worry, along with security I will be nearby to help you. It will be great for Miroku’s business.”

“Speaking of Miro, has he proposed to you yet?”

Sango looked down blushing, “No. I think he’s afraid of taking our relationship to the next level.”

“Don’t fret Sango, he does love you I can see it. Maybe he is just waiting until he gets more money in so that he can make it a special moment,” Kagome suggested trying to cheer her friend up.

She picked up another piece of pizza and took a bite, then she nearly choked as she saw Kouga a few shops down. Sango looked at her in confusion as she coughed trying to warn her. Finally Sango looked the way she was pointing and a scowl crossed her face.

“Relax Kagome, if he comes near you I got your back. Besides you can’t exactly run from him forever.”

“You’re right, but he still scares the shit out of me. Especially after last night.”

They both quickly finished their food and made their way into another store. Luckily Kouga didn’t seem to notice them. They continued to shop until it was time to head to work.

            Kouga walked around the mall trying to kill time. He was very anxious to see how the inu brothers reacted when they found out what their new roommates profession was. He had even called and arranged for Sesshomaru to have a private audience with her after her show. He had tried to get one for himself as well, but that damned Miroku had refused after hearing of his actions last night. Oh well, he would get to her eventually, they couldn’t keep an eye on her forever. An evil grin spread across his face at that thought. She may not like him now, but she could learn if forced.

            When they arrived at work they went to the bar for their usual preperformance drink. As they sat there Miroku came up to inform Kagome of the schedule for the private audiences. Apparently, after her final performance instead of going to the dance hall she would stay in the VIP room. He had only scheduled two tonight so that he could see how it goes. He didn’t give her the names or any information, but he did inform her that a guard would be right outside the door in case she needed him.   He also made sure Sango would be nearby to.

            The time just seemed to fly by and soon enough customers started to make their way through the doors. Kagome and Sango went back to the dressing room to get ready for the show. Kagome helped Sango pick out her outfit and get ready. Then Kagome started going through the racks trying to find something of her own to wear. She was still nervous about the private audiences, but she pushed it to the back of her mind and focused on what was going on right now. She finally decided on wearing a white outfit for the first performance. She put on a white lacy bra, a small button up shirt, which she only did one button, a white micro mini skirt and clear stiletto heels. After she was done dressing she sat in front of the mirror to put on a little makeup and brush her hair out after taking it out of it’s ponytail. She examined her reflection in the mirror and decided that instead of a cape, she would go with a hat tonight. After she was ready she sat there waiting for her turn.

            Sesshomaru and Inuyasha followed Kouga into the club and took their seats at a table in the back. Sesshomaru knew the wolf was up to something, he could sense it, he just couldn’t figure out what it was. After they ordered their drinks Miroku came up to them. “Glad you two could make it Sesshomaru, Inuyasha,” he said smiling at two of his best friends. Then his expression turned serious and he turned to Kouga, “As for you Kouga, I do not want a repeat of last night. If you harass and pretty much molest one of my girls again I will ban you from Sway, I don’t care how great a customer you have been. My girls come first. Am I understood?”

            Kouga smiled, “Of course my friend. I am sorry for my actions last night, I must have had too much to drink.”

            Sesshomaru knew he was lying. He stood up from the table and he and Miroku made their way to his office. After the door closed Sesshomaru turned to Miroku, “What happened last night?” he asked. He knew that Kouga must have done something pretty bad to get Miroku upset.

            “Last night after the girls went to the dance hall to mingle with the customers, Kouga harassed one of them. Apparently he managed to get her into a dark part of the dance room and tried to force himself on her.”

            “Was it Sango?” Sesshomaru asked. Sango was like family to him and Miroku was one of his oldest friends, so if the wolf had dared try that with Sango he would not hesitate to go out there and kill him right now.

            “No, it was Sapphire. Poor girl was so scared after she managed to get away. I had Sango stay with her while she got ready to go, and then I had to have a guard escort her to her car. She had also mentioned that she’d had a problem with him earlier in the day before she even made it to work.”

            “Hn. Well I cannot say that his actions surprise me. I had to kick him out of my house yesterday due to his behavior,” Sesshomaru said standing from his seat. Now he knew that the wolf could not be trusted around Kagome. “I will talk with you later Miroku,” he said walking out the door.

            He returned to the table just as the drinks were being served. They continued to drink and talk, well Inuyasha and Kouga talked, Sesshomaru just sat there in silence trying to figure out what the wolf was up to. The place was so noisy that it was Sesshomaru was getting a headache. “Oh, by the way Sesshomaru, I payed for you to have a private audience with Sapphire later. She doesn’t do private performances, but you will get to meet her.”

            Sesshomaru couldn’t help but wonder why Kouga thought he would want a private audience with one of the dancers, but his thoughts were cut off when the music stopped and Miroku stepped on the stage. Kouga grinned this was what he had been waiting for. Miroku made the same speech as he did the night before and then left the stage as the lights dimmed. Sesshomaru sat there listening to Miroku glad for the break from the noise, but as soon as Miroku left the stage men started whistling and whooping as the curtain rose. A woman in white stepped into the dim light and slowly the lights began to brighten again. Sesshomaru couldn’t see her face because she had a hat on and had her head tilted down so all you could see was her mouth.

            She slowly raised a finger to her lips and everyone quieted down. Sesshomaru had to admit, she had a nice body. Then the music started. He was surprised that it was a slow song, it reminded him of Hindi music. Without lifting her head she began to move with the music. He was impressed with the fluid grace this woman possessed, he could see why Miroku called her the best. She slowly walked to the end of the stage and bent down, taking her hat off and putting it on one of the men’s heads. He still couldn’t see her face, but when she stood he froze.

            “Holy shit!” he heard Inuyasha practically yell beside him.

            There on the stage was Kagome. Sesshomaru could not take his eyes off her as she continued to dance slowly taking the shirt off. Then it clicked Kagome was Sapphire. That’s why Kouga invited them, he knew. He probably thought that Sesshomaru would be so disgusted that he would kick her out. He watched as she continued to dance slowly stripping off her clothes. She was so perfect he couldn’t look away. He felt the blood rush to his loins. The men were cheering and putting money in her g string and Sesshomaru couldn’t help the wave of jealousy that washed over him.

His beast was growling every time a man touched her. She was his nobody should have the right to see her body, let alone touch her except him. That thought snapped him out of his trance. His? Since when was she his? Just then the music stopped and after gathering the money she disappeared behind the curtain. He turned back to his companions to see Inuyasha practically drooling, and Kouga staring with a smirk on his face. He reached over and closed Inuyasha’s mouth then pinned Kouga with an icy glare.

“Well, it seems our roommate is the best stripper in town. How lucky for us.”

Kouga’s smirk fell and he quickly looked away. He mumbled something about getting another drink and walked off. As soon as he was out of hearing range Sesshomaru told Inuyasha of his conversation with Miroku. As he told Inuyasha, however, he suddenly felt like he had been slapped. Miroku said that Kouga had molested Sapphire and tried to force himself on her, and Kagome was Sapphire. He nearly growled as he came to the realization.

“Calm down Sess. We’ll take care of him later, not here.”

Sesshomaru took a deep breath to calm himself, for once the half-breed was right.

“Hey Sess, do you think maybe we’re charging her too much for rent?” Inuyasha asked, “Do you think maybe that’s why she is working here of all places?”

“Hn,” Sesshomaru replied obviously deep in thought.

Kouga returned after a while and they all sat in silence. Sesshomaru was about to leave when Kouga reminded him that after her next performance he had a private audience with her. He was hoping that Sesshomaru was just putting on a front and that after her next performance when he went to see her that he would kick her out. When she came out to the stage again they all froze and turned to watch her. Sesshomaru couldn’t help but admire her. She moved with more grace than any demoness and she was more beautiful to. She looked like an angel to him. If Kouga thought that he would get rid of her just because of her profession he was sadly mistaken.

After her performance Kagome went to the changing room to get dressed, then she was escorted to the VIP lounge. She sat on the couch nervously waiting for the first person to come in. When he did she took a few deep breaths and shook his hand. He turned out to be a nice man. He never tried to touch her or anything. He just asked her to autograph one of Miroku’s fliers and then left. She was feeling a little more at ease as she waited for the second person.

Miroku walked up to their table about 20 minutes after Kagome’s last performance and told Sesshomaru that he could meet Sapphire now. Sesshomaru stood up and started to follow him.

“So how did Kagome end up working for you?” he asked Miroku as they made their way up the stairs.

“You know her?” Miroku asked surprised.

“She’s our new roommate.”

“Oh, well she is Sango’s best friend. Sango referred her here when she needed money,” Miroku said, “Well here we are. If you have any more questions, ask her. I don’t know how much of her personal life she wants known.”

Sesshomaru nodded and turned to the door. He could hear Miroku’s retreating footsteps as he opened the door. Kagome turned to face him and he could see the shock on her face. He closed the door and went to sit on the couch opposite her. She looked down at her feet and he could smell the shame rolling off her.

“Kagome, you don’t need to be ashamed,” he said trying to get her to look at him. When she didn’t look up he got up and stepped over to her. He knelt down and put a finger under her chin, lifting her head to face him.

“Are you going to kick me out?” she asked as tears started to trail down her face.

He wiped the tears away with his thumb and asked, “why would I do that?”

“Because nobody wants a stripper around their children.”

“I do not think your profession affects your home life. I do want to ask though, are you doing this because the rent is too high?”

“That’s part of it. I’m also trying to save money so I can go back to business school,” she said sniffling.

“Miroku said that you worked here before.”

“Yeah, I told you that I had to drop out of business school because my grandfather got sick.” He nodded. “Well I started working here then. I needed money fast and Sango suggested I work here. I had all the bills for the shrine to pay along with my grandfather’s medical bills. He seemed to be getting better so I quit. Then he just died and it took all my savings to deal with the funeral. Then they told me that I had to leave the shrine. The only place available was your house. So I came back to work here.”

Sesshomaru thought about what she told him for a while. It seemed that all she was getting in life was hardship and heartache. She was a very smart woman and yet she was reduced to stripping just to get by.

“Why didn’t you say anything?” he asked.

“Because it was my problem. Besides most people don’t give a shit.”

She started to sob again, putting her face in her hands.

“And why didn’t you tell me Kouga attacked you again last night?”

“I don’t know. When he showed up last night he said that he would tell you what I did. He wanted to work out a deal in return for his silence.”

She completely broke down after that and told Sesshomaru everything that Kouga had done the night before. With every word Sesshomaru’s rage increased. The wolf tried to use him to blackmail her! When she told him about the wolf violating her his anger went through the roof. No wonder she seemed so upset that morning. He pulled her into his arms and held her as she cried. When he saw the wolf again he was as good as dead. After she had calmed down he helped her up and walked with her back to the bar. Sesshomaru bought her a drink and they went to sit down. He noticed the wolf was gone from their table. He helped Kagome to a seat then asked Inuyasha to watch her while he went to talk to Miroku.

Inuyasha noticed that her eyes were red and puffy from crying. “You ok Kagome?”

“Yeah, I’ll be fine,” she said taking a drink of her beer.

“Well I gotta hand it to you, you are a damn good dancer. Did you ever think about teaching dance classes?” he said trying ease the awkwardness.

“Actually I used to choreograph in high school for the dance team and the cheerleaders. After high school I volunteered at a youth center teaching different types of dancing. I always loved to dance, but as a hobby. I had actually started business school before my grandfather got sick.”

“Yeah Sess mentioned that.”

“After I got resettled here I figured that I would start volunteering at the youth center or the community center again.”

“What kind of dancing did you teach?”

“Well, I taught belly dancing, street dancing, I even know ballroom dancing, ballet, and many other forms. With kids I tended to teach them to mix different styles, unless they wanted to learn a specific type.”

“Wow. Extensive knowledge on dancing huh? You got me beat, I couldn’t dance to save my life.”

She chuckled and shook her head.

“Seriously, our parents hold a ball every year and I never dance because I have no clue how.”

“Well, if you want I could teach you. Then you can surprise everybody at the ball. I’ll even teach the kids at the same time.”

“Ok, I suppose I can try to learn,” he said with a toothy grin.

“Try to learn what?” Sesshomaru asked as he walked up to the table.

“Kagome just volunteered to teach me ballroom dancing for the ball this year.”

“Good luck with that,” Sesshomaru told Kagome.

“Hey! I might do ok,” Inuyasha replied feigning hurt.

“Kagome, Miroku told me to tell you that your shift is over,” Sesshomaru told her as she finished her beer.

“Ok. Well I guess I’ll see you two at home,” she said giving them each a hug before heading to the locker room.

Inuyasha watched her walk away happy that he had managed to cheer her up.

“Where is the wolf little brother?”

“He left about ten minutes after you went upstairs. Why what’s going on?”

Sesshomaru told him everything Kagome had said. Inuyasha paled when he heard what the wolf tried. He knew Kouga could be an ass sometimes, but he never thought that he would sink that low. By the time he finished telling Inuyasha what was going on he had a bad feeling that Kagome was in trouble.

“I’ll be back in a minute,” Sesshomaru said getting up and walking toward the employee exit.

Kagome already had all of her stuff gathered so she just stopped into the locker room to grab her purse and headed out. There was no guard to escort her out to her car so she figured Kouga must have left already. She pulled her car keys out and opened the door to the parking lot. She felt nervous as she began walking to her car. She knew she was probably just being paranoid so she shook it off and kept going. She was only about ten feet from her car when someone grabbed her from behind and put a hand over her mouth.

“I was wondering when you’d be coming out.”
