THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR REVIEWS!!!! You don't know how happy they make me...
As to Sesshomaru not noticing anything about the story <A Song to the Moon>... it'll be answered later on, I guess in chapter 8, and it's not him being stupid (we all know he's a friggin' genius), it's more a question of character... ________________________________________________________________________ The sun was just rising when Sesshomaru laid down the novel with a little sigh of delight. If <A Song to the Moon> hadn’t yet been his favorite, he would have chosen this one, <Asleep>. He heard the rustling of fabric and turned his head just in time to see a disheveled and slightly sleep-drunk hanyou step into the room. Said younger brother scratched his head and began: “Did I - *yawn* - fall asleep?” Sesshomaru nodded. “Oh dear gods… what a shame…” “Not really, just the second time. I already got used to see you sleeping.” “Moron. I’m making tea… want some?” “Sure, why not?” The hanyou nodded, stood there as if he had to remember what he had just said before he turned around and disappeared in the aisle. Sesshomaru stood up as well and deposed the novel on the desk, following his brother into the kitchen where he watched him silently as he made tea. With every gulp, his brother seemed to wake up a bit more and at the end of their cups, he was more or less back to normal. “Aaahm… When will you go back?” “I don’t know… Sometime during the morning…” “Ah… Yamakawa-san will be here soon… don’t forget the spell…” “You don’t have to tell me this.” “Yeah, yeah… and?” “What?” “Liked it?” “Yes. It’s my second favorite.” “Oh. Which one did you like the best?” “<A Song to the Moon>.” Inuyasha looked at him with a strange expression, a mix of surprise, bewilderment and something dark lurking behind the innocent façade. “Really?” “Yeah… why is it such a surprise?” “Oh, nothing… it’s nothing…” Sesshomaru tried to figure out what was going on in the white head topped by the absolutely cute furry ears by staring at him while his younger brother seemed to think that drinking another cup of tea was the most interesting thing in the world. The youkai decided to go a bit further with that theme: “How does it end?” “The way it’s written in the book, of course.” “No, it has no real end.” “Do you have no imagination?” “No, such a thing is not part of my talents.” *Sigh* “I don’t know.” “What?” “I don’t know, I said. I have no idea what the elder brother is thinking.” “How come? You created him!” “More or less… he still escapes my thoughts.” “Did you like the elder brother?” “A writer has to love all of his characters, even the villains. But I… really like him.” “Ah…” “Oh well… I’m going to take a bath. Do you want one first?” “No need.” “Ok… well then…” The hanyou left the kitchen, a hint too fast for his brother’s taste but the youkai forbid himself to remark anything. After all, Inuyasha had to be still bewildered just as he was by their sudden closeness. Using the guest room Inuyasha had told him about he changed back into his suit, shortly raking through his hair with his claws as his morning beauty routine. The youkai went back to the working room and stood on the veranda, looking over the garden to the sea just a few meters away. He could understand why Inuyasha had chosen this spot. It was calm, away from all the trouble of the humans and the fresh breeze of the ocean washed away all the bad odors while the trees and the traditional materials of the house gave off a familiar feeling. Sesshomaru felt more at rest in his brother’s house than in his own, except that he knew exactly where his stuff was in his apartment and that he still preferred a room smelling only like him to doze off during the night. From the scent behind him he could tell that a freshly bathed brother had entered to room and turned around. Inuyasha was just sitting down before his laptop, a bath towel laid around his shoulders to prevent his hair from soaking everything. He had already used the concealing spell and the black hair carried a greenish glow from the deep green kimono he wore. Sesshomaru thought that this color fitted him well in his human appearance, it made him look fresher and fitter. As he saw him handling some CDs he asked him: “What are you doing?” “Making security copies. A colleague of mine lost 600 pages in transaction and I don’t want to rewrite my novel from scratch.” “That much?” “Hmmm… it has become a bit of a policy in my publishing house to ask of the writer to give their editors two copies on a CD or something else, send one copy by e-mail and keep themselves the original on the pc and two security copies.” “Oh… similar to my work sometimes.” “Really?” “In the domain of the accounting, yes. I have god-knows-how-many security copies of the previous’ years accounts.” “So I’m not the only one bothered by such things…” “Looks like it.” “Why did you… damn… stupid machine!” “What is it?” Sesshomaru looked over the shoulder of his younger brother on the screen and saw a familiar error message. It was a classic bug and he had had to deal with it so often that he knew the countermeasures by heart. “Do you mind?” “What?” Two strong arms caged the younger brother in as Sesshomaru kneeled down and reached out for the keys while trapping the younger between him and the table. While the fingers mindful of their sharp claws began to type in commands, the youkai said into the ebony hair: “I know that one, leave it to me.” The hanyou stilled while the youkai easily got rid of the problem and inserted the virgin CD into the slot. As he drew back slowly, he noticed how close they were. It was the first time they were so close while both were awake and Sesshomaru thought he could feel the heartbeat of his younger brother melt with his own, pulsing powerfully through their bodies while the sweet breath of the hanyou caressed his neck and chin. Was it only his imagination or did Inuyasha breathe a bit faster than usual? His face was so close Sesshomaru could count each of the ebony lashes on the creamy skin, shivering softly as the hanyou closed his eyes half, and his purple irises glittered so invitingly in the fresh morning light that Sesshomaru wanted to lean closer, to see more, to feel more. Just as their breaths ghosted over each other’s lips and Sesshomaru’s heart sped up a tiny little bit as impassible eyes locked with his own that desperately tried to uphold their cool façade an ugly, loud ring came to disturb the silence. Inuyasha’s face was just as impassible as before as he pulled out his phone, not moving a single inch from his spot. Sesshomaru wondered why he didn’t want to pull away and cursed whoever just called his brother. On the other hand, he was almost feeling disappointed and hurt that Inuyasha seemed to deem a phone call more important than him. “Shirayuki?” His breath still had the faint flavor of the green tea they had drunk before and the youkai could see the tips of the ivory teeth hiding just behind the soft lips. “In 5 minutes? Alright, I’ll come open the door…” Why did his words feel like fingers caressing his cheeks? Why did he wish for more? Why did he wish to touch him as well? “See you.” Why were those words no meant for him? Why couldn’t he speak to him? Why? Inuyasha came even closer and their lips were now only half an inch away. As if he was waiting for something he froze, his eyes almost closed, letting only a small river of amethyst peek through his lashes and the almost transparent eyelids but Sesshomaru froze as well, suddenly caught between his controlled self that asked for the reason for all this and his more animalistic side that wanted to devour everything it craved, no matter how sudden the yearning had come over him. After a few seconds like an eternity the hanyou sighed softly, no more than the caress of a down feather floating on the lips of his elder brother, and slipped away. He dove under the arm of his still frozen brother and stood up, walking over to the door like he was floating on thin air and stopped as he stood under the doorway, his hand searching for a halt on the polished wood. The hanyou didn’t exactly look at him over his shoulder but Sesshomaru felt that he was waiting for something, for something that came from him but the youkai didn’t know what he wanted himself and just stayed there while the footsteps of his younger brother disappeared in the dark aisle. When Inuyasha came back, Sesshomaru was standing in his human-like appearance on the veranda and lost his gaze in the sea and the sky, strangely clear and pristine that morning. He only nodded at his brother and after being formally presented to Inuyasha’s personal editor, a hot-blooded woman with colored hair, exchanging business cards with her and ignoring her little gasp as she saw his fake name and his position, he left without much more than a glance at his brother. Behind him the cheerful lady began to speak enthusiastically with Inuyasha about the finished novel and already planned the next one in a volume that Sesshomaru could still hear it when he closed the door of the house behind him. Only when he had reached his car did Sesshomaru notice that he had been clenching his fist hard enough to draw blood. He looked at himself and shook his head in disbelief at his own foolish, disgraceful behavior. While his car raced over the empty road he wondered where his pride had gone, where his self-restraint had wandered off to. He despised himself for not being the calm, composed daiyoukai he once used to be as that Sesshomaru would have known what he wanted to do without fail. The next months flew by like a dream. Whenever he found the occasion to do so, the youkai went to see his brother, simply to satisfy the beast within him that threatened to drive him mad while Inuyasha wasn’t to be seen and purred in delight at the mere hint of his younger brother’s scent. As the two spent long hours sitting on the beach, Inuyasha sometimes working in his notebooks on his next novel and Sesshomaru going through work material, or as they had conversation resembling family squabbles without the intimate warmth the mind of the youkai studied his brother closely, trying to find if he, Sesshomaru, was attracted to the strangely impassible mind of the hanyou or if it was just his body craving the touch of a being so similar to himself. A strange routine began to form itself where the youkai would show up unexpectedly, either just admitting flat out that he was bored or making up some pretext, the hanyou would act reluctant and let him begrudgingly in and they would spend the day, the afternoon or the night together without getting ever closer than an arm’s length away, each one more or less being on their own. Sesshomaru soon knew his way around the house perfectly even if there were some unspoken taboos like to never enter the hanyou’s room at night if the door was closed, a rule Sesshomaru never had understood but still obeyed without having being told about it. Inuyasha, however, grew stiller and bitterer towards life as the winter went by, closing himself more and more. Sesshomaru had thought in the beginning that he had seen some facets of the character of his brother and had believed he could discover this personality that had been so foreign to him all the time but now the walls of isolation that the younger one had built around his heart had somehow grown thicker and higher, hardening the shell that made Sesshomaru feel more and more unwelcome in his brother’s house. Still, he refused to let go and came back again and again, as often as he work would let him do that, just to be close, just to see the rare glimpses of smiles, tears and emotions in his brother who had become but a shadow of what he had used to be. __________________________________________________________________________________________ reviews? :)While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
