Originally Beta’d by Leah. This is actually two chapters combined because the one was rather short. Hope you like! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In the deep darkness of the now housed-in well, both brothers were breathing hard willing their bodies and minds to catch up with all that had happened. Inuyasha was at the center on hands and knees as if in reverence while his claws pierced into the freshly dug earth. Thick, white hair fell all around his head as he stared at the ground, barricading himself from having to react right away. It worked! It worked! Thank the KAMI we got through… Oh SHIT what the hell was that!!?… I can’t believe it worked… Feeling his brother’s presence to his left, Inuyasha turned his head enough to look upon him, feeling his breathing stop immediately. Sesshoumaru was half-crouching in the corner, his feet digging into the ground, pushing his back against the walls. His arms were to either side, digging their claws into the centuries old wood; his left forearm still bleeding and saturating the loose soil underneath it. The fur that never left his shoulder hung down and piled at his feet, slowly becoming sticky with the mix of fresh blood and soft dirt seeping deep into the hairs. His mouth was tight in a snarl, exposing his fangs in a growl as he breathed deep and quick with eyes that were determined and glowing red, however not focused on anything. The taiyoukai looked like a trapped, violent animal. Being he was dangerous in the best of times, Inuyasha did not want to disturb him too quickly. Whether it was from the surprisingly strong attack from the small miko or the unexpected travel through the well, he knew Sesshoumaru was going to be pissed either way. The trick was to calm the taiyoukai down without getting attacked in the process. Keeping very still he cautiously and quietly spoke, “Sesshoumaru…” Deadly red eyes shot at Inuyasha. Bright, blue specks from the well’s magic were burned in his vision, but were slowly fading with every deep, anxious breath. He blinked once to clear his eyes of the well’s magic and confirmed it was only darkness and his half brother with him. Slowly the red bled out, returning his eyes to the normal impressive gold, though still stressed in shock. As he looked over Inuyasha the tension released slowly, allowing his claws to loosen, his shoulders to settle, his face to return to a mask of still boredom, and then finally closing his mouth. Suddenly, he tensed up again fighting the urge to cover his mouth and nose with his right hand. Inuyasha knew immediately what caused him to startle so fiercely; the smell of the future almost caught him off guard as well. He was expecting the offense, but it had been close to a century since he had to endure it. Knowing that it was bad for him it was twice as bad for the taiyoukai, the hanyou almost felt sympathetic. Looking down at the ground trying to remember other scents, he foolishly sought for the one that could distract him from the rest. Kagome… He sighed then took a deep breath, catching her faint scent around him. No… It was impossible; his mind had to be playing tricks on him. Then again… Inuyasha breathed in deep while Sesshoumaru looked at him as if he were mad. Ignoring the disgusted gaze he took another long breath through his nose. He had to catch the scent again. It was there; subtle, light and refreshing, like it was engrained within the wood and buried deep under the stink of the billions of humans outside, but it was enough to fix his mind on the pleasant aroma and ignore the rest. Slowly, he stood up, looking at their only exit. It is as if she sticks around in everything, even years after she died. She was persistent in his everyday thoughts, it was no wonder even the memory of her scent would invade now. Sesshoumaru followed Inuyasha’s example and stood up, once again towering over and glaring his half brother. Answers were needed, however the large amount of questions were being formulated too quickly to speak just yet. Inuyasha felt the eyes on him and spoke without moving. He knew when he left the well he would lose his hold on Kagome and wanted to try and enjoy it as long as possible. “She can’t follow us here.” The taiyoukai remained still but his eyes narrowed. That was the least of his worries. Inuyasha looked at him for a response and saw angry eyes, then sighed and looked back up to the future for a past he could no longer have. “We’re safe here. Where here is is kinda a long story.” Inuyasha could smell the blood and poison from Sesshoumaru overpowering the last tendrils of Kagome’s scent. He hung his shoulders, but otherwise both remained motionless as they waited for something from the other. Inuyasha wanted a reaction other than annoyance from his arrogant sibling. He did just save both of them! Sesshoumaru wanted the hanyou to keep talking until the answer he sought was uncovered. He did just hug him through a magic portal. Inuyasha did not have much practice in patience as he slipped, looking back up towards the well house ceiling again, “More like WHEN this is…” His confession sank deep within Sesshoumaru as he slowly understood. ‘When…’ They hadn’t moved locations, they had moved times. As impossible as it sounded, his senses told him something dramatic had changed. If a miko could have him running, then time travel was surely a possibility. He was away in a different time in an attempt to run from a child miko accompanied by only Inuyasha. This is doing nothing for his current foul mood. Trying not to give away any more clues, Inuyasha gestured towards the opening of the well. “Come on, we won’t know anyone here, but they might know us.” In a single leap he was on the well’s edge facing out towards the doors that held reality back. With a quick sniff and a look around he saw the large pile of dark dirt to the right. “What the hell…” Breaking his thoughts the next second Sesshoumaru gracefully jumped and landed softly next to the door, urging Inuyasha to join him with the clear sign of impatience strained across his features. Inuyasha wrinkled his nose at him as his ears flicked. “Asshole.” The inuyoukai lord rolled his eyes then blinked slowly, expressing his disapproval of the hanyou’s words. Internally he was concentrating on keeping the horrible scents from disturbing him and refraining from killing his half-brother for his behavior. Relief of either would bring a welcomed change to his mood. Inuyasha leapt to the doors, sliding them open quietly and took a few quick sniffs before walking forward, leading the way toward the shrine house that looked unchanged. The soft late summer night was abnormally quiet for the busy city, yet both inuyoukais’ ears twitched at the clatter of Tokyo. He slowed his steps to look around with more scrutiny with his inhuman eyes not missing a detail. The whole area really looked unmarked by time. From the sutras around the God Tree to the condition of the well house it was all almost as he remembered. There was even a familiar looking wheeled contraption Kagome brought with her a couple times. “Sesshoumaru, everything is… it’s as if… this is weird.” The taiyoukai gave him the most demeaning look possible as his brow lowered over his eyes. Of course this was odd. Inuyasha growled at his look and defended himself by standing straighter. This place was familiar to him. He knew what was going on, had the answers Sesshoumaru wanted, and that bastard was treating him like shit? Sesshoumaru might be alpha, but this time he would be in charge, whether the pompous lord desired it or not. “Keh,” he scoffed, brushing Sesshoumaru’s offensive look away. “I would watch yourself here. Not only are there a lot more ningen, but all the youkai…” Unable to finish the rant he suddenly felt his neck jerk his whole body towards the ground as the subjugation beads glowed strong against the dark of night. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The night was cool and the hut shade failed to bring much protection against the strong breeze from outside. Her soon to be mate was kneeling by the door trying to tie the seemingly useless bamboo curtain to the doorframe, more for privacy then protection from the late Fall air, but the nervous shaking from his hands caused it to be a chore. She was standing by the futon on the other side of the room shaking from adrenaline as well. This is what she wanted. This is why she came back, to be with her hanyou love, but she was still so nervous. They have only seen each other’s bodies during stressful combat situations and Kagome was sure that it was more awkward to do so willingly. Clutching the yukata to keep her from being fully uncovered she watched Inuyasha, still fully clothed in red as usual, struggle with the multiple ties with his back to her. Though he was still trying to hold his true feelings from her, it was comforting to recognize that he was just as tense. Pushing aside her own apprehensions she mustered up the courage to speak. “Inu- Inuyasha…” his name filled the hut, leaving a promise hanging in the air. He turned his head towards her with questioning eyes. She smiled, though her face felt cold, released the grip of her yukata, and slipped the thin material off her shoulders. In the fading light the shadows played with her curves as the abandoned robe skidded over her hips then laid in a soft pile by her feet. The cool air, mixed with embarrassment, hit her naked body and she fought from covering herself up again as Inuyasha took her in slowly, not missing a single detail of her body, including the goose bumps now coating every inch and the smell of adrenaline on her blushing skin. The hardened peaks of her breasts along with the soft curves of her maturing hips, thighs and beautiful, innocent face were illuminated with the soft light of the dying fire. He stood up and slowly turned around, not wanting to startle her with sudden movements. He wanted her to stay perfectly still, just as she was. He wanted her to stay strong as she was completely exposed to him. He wanted… her. Inuyasha made sure each step forward would not push Kagome back and she only moved to place her forearms over her nipples to shield them from her boldness. His desire cut through her hesitant tension as he closed the gap between them, yellow-gold eyes locked on hers the entire time. Soon, he was close enough that Kagome could feel his warm body promising heat to her sensitive naked skin. Reaching a hand up he slowly caressed her cheek and she leaned into the touch lovingly. For what seemed like forever she had longed for his touch and his love. “You are beautiful.” His voice was low, soft, and honest. The words cut straight to her heart and she relaxed slightly. Too soon his hand left her face and moved to his obi. Kagome wanted to dart her eyes away, but she could not help but stare as he loosened the knot to throw it off to the side then removed his arms from his red haori to let it hang from his waist. The weight of the material stressed the waistline, exposing more hot skin that begged for her hands. She moved her eyes up past his hard stomach and chest to his face once again. With one fang exposed Inuyasha was biting his lip, breathing harder as the seconds passed and their sexual tension grew. Kagome moved one hand towards him slowly, finally resting it on his shoulder then softly trailed her fingers down. His abs jumped involuntarily in response. Inuyasha’s breaths were short and strong as his love explored his chest with both hands now, once again exposing her round breasts to him. Noticing she was breathing hard as well he decided to touch her as well, whether to increase the tension or ease it he did not know. Rough hands grabbed lightly at her waist feeling the bone at his palms and her ass under his claws. Groaning he pulled Kagome into him, catching her mouth with his; kissing her deeply. Her hands were trapped between their bodies, not allowing hers to be fully pressed against him. Pushing him back slightly, she stopped his kiss and he looked shocked. It wasn’t until he backed away mere inches and she freed her arms to wrap around him that Inuyasha understood her intentions. He could feel the goose-bumped flesh and hard peaks press into his burning chest and his eyes shut in anticipation. Her hands traveled up his back, then into the thick, white hair at his neck, pulling his lips to hers again. Their tongues fumbled over each other as his hands tightened their grasp on her bare hips. She gripped his hair when she felt his hips rock against her, anxiously begging. Small, feminine fingers grazed his shoulder blades, down the sides, and to his waistline where they found the knot keeping his hakama up. Groaning against her plump lips he strengthened their kiss. Kagome tried to move her head back slightly to slow it down, but Inuyasha pushed forward, not risking losing the treat he had wanted for so long. Somewhere deep inside herself Kagome felt her defenses stir. “Mmmm…” was all she could say against the increasingly urgent force of his lips as he helped her relieve him of the hakama. She was stepping back, but he held her tight. ‘Shh, it’s okay Kagome. Don’t be scared with me.” Opening his eyes once again he looked deep into her blue, shining one and confessed, “I love you.” The rare admission took her off guard. Her body gave in as he pulled her against him once again, now fully exposed. Feeling his urgent hardness between them throb with his quick heartbeat Kagome stopped breathing. Her eyes shot open seeking Inuyasha’s, but his kept his closed, focusing on what was happening next instead. Without warning he wrapped one arm around the bottom off her legs and kissed down to her stomach as he crouched down to pick her up. Her back arched from surprise and before she could stop him he had her laid out on the futon, feeling the weight of her love covering her body, his hair shielding and tickling her face, and the weight of his beating cock on her inner thighs. “Inuyasha… wait.” He was kissing at her neck, trying to soothe away her uncertainty. “Kagome, you feel so good…” Her fear grew as the spiritual powers deep within her swelled. Kagome tried to push at his chest. “Inuyasha, seriously, wait…” Smelling her fear, a growl replaced his moan as he looked at her concerned. “What’s the matter?” She waited to answer to focus on her aura, ensuring it wasn’t growing yet again. “Um… my body, it’s…” Her lips were swollen and wet from their kisses. Her face was flushed and her body trembled and Inuyasha found he couldn’t help himself. Her protests were halted with another kiss and he eagerly grinding them together again. She inhaled him deeply as his lips took hers and they moved in unison; Kagome feeling herself relaxing into him, into what was happening around her. She moaned softly into his lips and felt his body tense with her approval. His tongue brushed against her lips and found its way against her own. She played with his back and he reflexively pushed his hips against hers. Kagome felt the hard, pleading sign of his desire dig into her thigh and the small droplets of anticipation from his precum coat the soft skin. Without warning her powers grew upon themselves rapidly. Kagome shot her eyes open, but before she could alert the eager hanyou her body started to glow the deep pink of protection, creating an incredible tension between her temples. She felt Inuyasha being pulled away as her aura grew. The pain pulled him from the kiss and looking into her shocked eyes he only had an instant to question her. “Why?” he asked desperately before being flung across the room and through the useless bamboo curtain as an unwanted dome barrier outlined Kagome’s naked form while she painfully cried long into the night. Kagome woke with a start, thrashing the blankets around her and gasping for whatever air she could get as a barrier, created subconsciously in her dreams, glowed around her. She hated that dream, she hated that memory. It brought so much shame thinking of the event that started to drive Inuyasha and her apart. That wasn’t supposed to happen. It was supposed to be glorious. It was her mating, her gift for always being the forgiving, loving person throughout the entire Shikon Jewel fiasco. In the end, she had what she wanted. Through the misunderstandings and jewel shards, friends and enemies, countless times through the well and through the heartache of Kikyo, Kagome finally had what she wanted; Inuyasha. Why couldn’t she keep what she deserved? Bringing her hands to her face she wondered what had awakened her. Then she felt strong warnings ebb into her aura. Youkai! Kagome sat still as humanly possible, trying to feel out exactly what she was dealing with. There were two. They were strong, they were dangerous, and they were close. Ah, crap… Cursing herself for not feeling them sooner Kagome jumped out of bed, moving towards the closet, and started to think about how she fell asleep in the first place. The well… the scroll… Anka! Her eyes shot across the room that blushed from the light of the city and moonlight until she saw the harmless looking green scroll on her nightstand. Confusion swept over her as she remembered the jolt from touching it and Anka’s warning right before she passed out. Wish I could say the same… His eyes were cold, his stance unwavering, and in the second between the flash of the well and the blackness that followed her down into unconsciousness he really looked like her enemy. But… he had carried her up, tucked her in, and left the scroll with her. None of it made sense, but she had no time to think about it. Psft… time… always a nuisance. While keeping the barrier intact she awkwardly reached to a shelf above her hanging clothes and pulled out a large velvet drawstring bag that carried her quiver and bow. Silently as possible she moved it to the bed to remove her weapon. At first she had cleaned and polished the wood often, ignoring the mystical, taut string that needed no maintenance. But, after the months then years separating her from the time where it was needed the upkeep seemed foolish. Old memories of ancient battles flashed threw her mind as she threw the quiver over her shoulder, grasped the center of the handle of her bow, and headed for the bedroom door. The youki she felt remained still, but she didn’t trust it. Unmoving youki meant resolution. Unmoving youkai meant a target had been reached and preparations were being made. Kagome was quite sure she was that target. Ah crap Ah crap Ah crap Shallow breaths contradicted her long steps through the room and she concentrated on her barrier as much as she could allow while the rest of her energy was spent trying to keep quiet. This new trick she had taught herself seemed to block her aura and scent, but not sound. She reached to the steps, keeping constant attention to the demons outside, sensing they started to move slowly toward the house. Don’t let them have sensed me yet, please. PLEASE. She hit the bottom step and turned towards the kitchen door that had allowed Hojo and Anka in earlier that day. Out of practice and terrified she might be, but NO one else would come through that door tonight. Even if she had to block it with her limp body. Yeah, that’s a great thing to think about right now. Pressing against the wall by the door she stopped breathing to listen outside, still wearing her skirt and top from earlier now covered in dirt from the excursion in the well house. To her, it was only a few minutes ago and everything seemed just so unfair at the moment. This was too much to deal with at once. Nap aside; because it obviously wasn’t intended, she hadn’t had to deal with this much drama since the jewel quest. Sure, it might have been what she was dreaming about the night prior, but not now, not here. Suddenly, Kagome realized how strange it was to daydream about the ideal place in time she would rather have this fight when it was clearly going to happen now. What happened with the scroll and Anka were a battle for another time, and she would make it to that fight; if nothing else then to chew out Anka for making her day worse than it already was. She should fire him… or dock him a day’s pay… something. Wish I could say the same…Danger… Threat… Fear… Enemy. She closed her eyes, pushing thoughts of Anka's betrayal away, and stilled herself. Softly, she heard a muffled single voice over the quiet of the late night. Some part of her mind screamed at the voice and begged to be paid attention too, but Kagome brushed the nagging feeling aside to focus on making out what the youkai was saying. She needed to know why they were there and why now. Focusing on the voice outside, she silenced her breathing to understand the words spoken outside. She found one. “Keh!” No… Her eyes shot open and the previously ignored section of her memories took over, telling her she knew that voice very well. Fate could not be so cruel, but as her breath let loose, Kagome knew it was true. She tried to listen to more but her breathing was becoming louder, her concentration waning. There was one thing she could do to be sure. If it wasn’t him she would give her position away, but she needed to know. The bow was ready for the charge. With one deep breath she settled herself, feeling the harsh doorframe against her spine and finding it pleasant compared to what she might be facing outside. Please just be some harmful, enraged youkai looking for miko blood… Please don’t be him… In a voice barely louder than a whisper she spoke. “Osuwari.” The loud thud outside as the spell took told her what she already knew and feared to be true. Not knowing how to handle the wave of emotions that attacked her, but berating herself for wishing it was a hungry demon childishly, she quickly rushed outside with her bow held steady and a bright pink arrow flaring to light her way as she dropped her aura barrier. She aimed straight ahead of her as she ran the short distance to her visitors, stopping a few feet from the face-planted hanyou. Her eyes sought him out, but they quickly moved up to his companion that she’d completely forgotten was there. However, Kagome would never forget this moment when she saw the modern Tokyo moonlight reflect off his silver hair, white silk, soft fur, and metal armor. His face remained dark, but majestic gold eyes glowed at her in disbelief. In his first words since he fled the feudal era, he spoke low and steady, barely hiding his shock. “The miko…” Relaxing her grip she allowed the tip and bow to lower dramatically. Her knees felt weak, but she held strong as she stared at the taiyoukai. “Sesshoumaru!” As the spell released, Inuyasha felt himself hesitate to get up. He could sense her completely now as the scent washed over him. But, that was impossible! She was supposed to be de-… She just left without saying goodbye. For Inuyasha, Kagome disappeared through the well over 80 years ago. He slowly put his right hand to the ground to push his shoulders and head up. Staying in the dirt he looked up at the human woman, the completely unchanged woman, which had left him almost a hundred years prior. Her blue eyes moved from Sesshoumaru to his somber yellow with the same look of youth he remembered. “Ka-Kagome?”While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
