A/N: I figured I could start this one right after posting the last chapter. (Sudden inspiration by and very talented writer made me wanna play with my style a bit and upgrade it.) So, I am going to make this one really, really long and better! I promise.
Just let me chug my nasty coffee (Never turns out right when I make it. =/ )
Tricia1224~ There have been a few questions regarding that. I have to explain it. I'm thinking that is going to be something fun I twist in there. Lol.
I was meaning for this to be straight up modern day, but I dunno. Haha. Don't you love when you never know what's gonna happen next?

Oh, wait. Just realized something. I have the prologue set as Chapter one. Hm . . . I'd change it but I don't think it matters. Maybe later.

Chapter 5~ Surprise, Surprise

"What took you?" Kagome's best friend asked when the miko hopped up into her pick-up truck's cab. She looked over her appearance and then said, "Your face is on fire."
Kagome's blush darkened.
Old habits died hard and Sango knew this act. She slid the gear shift into park with more fource than necessary and folded her arms, looking expectantly at the younger girl, who seemed like she was debating whether or not to crawl under her seat.
"What happened?" Sango tried again, drumming her fingers on the steering wheel.
"Appointment, remember?" Kagome laughed nervously. If she told her what had happened, the miko was sure her best friend would march right back up to that apartment and rip Inuyasha's cute, doggie ears right off the top of his head.
That, or kill him.
Either way, Kagome needed to keep her mouth shut.
"We should go . . . "
"No, We can be late." Was her contradicting answer.
There was a hesitant pause then Kagome quickly mumbled, "He hugged me."
"A hug made you turn as red as your shirt?"
"Yeah."
"Okay, whatever, liar." Sango sighed, knowing the information she wanted was going to stay hidden until Kagome decided she wanted to tell her. Shifting the gear, the brunette began maneuvering her way out of the apartment's parking lot.

Inuyasha had been sitting on Kagome's couch watching TV for what seemed like hours, but in reality, she left barely thirty minutes ago. He had finished his shower quickly, hating himself for it, but using her shampoo. He smelled like her, and the fact that he kept sniffing his own hair was weirding him out.
He rested his elbow on the arm of the couch and dropped his chin in his palm, staring irritably at the TV set. Some dumb, cliche fantasy show was on Sci-Fi. A group of unlikely heroes had all banded together and were working with each other to defeat the bad guy bent on destroying the world, in this case, it was an ugly black-haired man with a fucked up cloak and looking glass. He was controlling random creatures and sending them one by one after the group, who, in the end, always prevailed.
Inuyasha watched it boredly, snorting when one of the heroes and the young heroine professed their love for each other and started sucking face on the screen.
A sharp nail clicked the power button and the couple disappeared into the black screen.
Thoughts of the bathroom incident earlier began to slip through his mind. For a moment, she submitted to him. He probably could've gotten away with something, be it small or not, anything would've been nice after suffering seven years of wet dreams . . . But Sango just had to make an appointment.
His poor Tetsaiga.
"Keh." The hanyou muttered, looking at the door, wishing she would come walking back through it already. Not once did he miss Kikyou after half an hour. In fact, he was glad to have time alone. There was no one pushing him around, telling him to go to the store for feminine shit or pointless crap like make-up or pudding.
Inuyasha, hoping to call up a friend to keep himself from brooding, got up off the couch and went into Kagome's room, his intentions set on getting his phone. However, innocent intentions can end in very naughty things. Amber eyes caught the half-open top drawer of Kagome's dresser and he ended up silently, despite the fact the apartment was empty, sliding his way over to it.
Using his pinky, he slid it open and saw a colorful bounty of lace, silk, and cotton. Gently, he lifted up a lacy, green pair of booty shorts and licked his lips. She had good taste.
Now if only she would wear these for him . . .
Inuyasha's mind started conjuring up yummy images of Kagome's lithe, little body trembling gently beneath his while he kissed his was over her flat abs, his hands slowly dragging the green lace down her perfectly toned legs.
The hanyou's mouth went dry and he grit his teeth, feeling an unexpected, involuntary erection begin to strain against the zipper of his jeans.
He would purposely kiss around the area he most wanted to taste, teasing them both, maybe he'd even make her ask him to taste her. Either way, when he finally reached her tender folds, he'd slowly drag his tongue-
The sound of the door bell ended his fantasy and he dropped the panties like they had spontaneously burst into flames and fled the room.
Feeling like a guilty criminal, he undid his jeans and re-adjusted himself, waiting for the doorbell to sound again before pulling the door open.
A short, wrinkled woman with a black eye-patch looked at him in confusion with her good eye. "Where's Kagome?" She asked, craning her neck to look past him into the apartment. Inuyasha crossed his arms over his chest and moved to block her view.
"Why?"
"Kaede!" Both hag and hanyou looked over to see the small kitsune come running up the stairs, coming to an abrupt hault by the old woman's side. "She said it was okay, is it still okay?"
"Aye child, it should be. But it seems to me that Kagome ain't home." She said in a rough voice, still eyeballing a now irritated-looking Inuyasha. The kitsune's jaw dropped.
"I can wait for her! Can't I?" The little fox demon looked pleadingly up at Inuyasha, who's eyebrow had begun to twitch.
"Who the hell're you people?"
Instead of any sort of answer, the kitsune grabbed his large, turquoise bag from Kaede and began hauling it inside, only to be snatched up by the back of his white shirt and held up to where he was face to face with the man in Kagome's house.
"Who. Are. You."
"I'm Kagome's son!" He screeched, trying to wiggle out of Inuyasha's grip. The hanyou dropped him, feeling his gut twist. He went to look at the old hag for confirmation, but she was already making her way back down the stairs.
He slammed the door and, suddenly light-headed, went to sit down on the couch.
Kagome had a kid?
There was no way.
The hanyou watched the little boy pull a game station out of his bag and plug it up to the back of the TV, his mind racing. Who in the hell planted their seed in Kagome and made her bare their pup?
Inuyasha growled.
"Do you wanna play?" The red-headed child asked happily, obviously over the rough treatment from five minutes ago and oblivious to the hanyou's inner turmoil. He bounded over and held out a silver controller to the disgruntled man.
Inuyasha shook his head, but decided it would be best, if this really was Kagome's pup, to not be an asshole.
"What's yer name, kid?" He asked.
The kistune, who had hopped up in the hideous brown chair and was flipping through the menu of a racing game, chirped, "Shippou."
"Okay, Shippou, if you're Kagome's pup, why don't you live her with her."
"Mommy works alot so I stay with Kaede downstairs."
Inuyasha's gut clenched at the word, 'mommy' coming from that kid's mouth to describe Kagome.
It didn't make sense.
Earlier in the bathroom she acted so naive and innocent. This couldn't be her pup, it just couldn't be.
Trying to convince himself he was right, Inuyasha watched cars on the screen battle for first place while blowing each other up.
Some kid's game.
He got up off the couch and went into the kitchen, surprised when the fox child followed him.
"What?"
"I don't know your name."
"Inuyasha."
"Are you cooking something?"
This kid was not shy whatsoever and had no shame.
The hanyou went in the pantry and dug around, looking for something simple. He spotted a large can of chili in the back and picked it up, not even flinching when Shippou scampered up his back and onto his broad shoulder.
"We should cook mommy something. Yesterday was her birthday and I missed it. Are you her boyfriend now? Or did you miss it too?"
Inuyasha didn't know how to respond, so he let the kitsune grab a box of pancake mix and replaced the can.
"Why pancakes?" He asked.
Shippou, who was having trouble opening the box, let Inuyasha take it from him so he could use his claw to open it. "Everyone loves birthday pancakes!"
Inuyasha shook his head, and sat back for the most part, watching the small fox demon flit about the kitchen. The only time he stepped in was to open the fridge or get something off the shelf.

"It's okay that we missed the appointment, Sango. No biggie." Kagome said, taking a long swig of coke from her straw. That morning, after their parking lot delay, traffic held them back and the spa had already marked them as 'Not coming.' So they didn't get their day of relaxation.
Sango sighed, pushing her food around on her plate, nearly jumping in surprise when Kagome stabbed a dumpling with her chopstick and popped in her mouth. They both laughed.
"It's fine!" The miko twirled some noodles. "I wonder how Inuyasha is doing. I hope my apartment will be okay when I get home." She finished and then shoveled the food into her mouth.
All day, while they were window-shopping, at the beach, and even while talking to her best friend, Kagome's mind kept going back the hanyou. His words from this morning making her heart flutter everytime she replayed the memory.
'I couldn't stop thinkin' about ya all those years . . . '
Kagome felt her cheeks heat up and her lips stretched into a giddy smile.
She often dreamed of him, and whenever an opportunity to date would present itself, she would compare the guy to Inuyasha and then the guy would automatically be nothing she held any interest for.
It was unfair.
To her, and all the poor guys who wanted their chance.
She still loved Inuyasha, but she didn't want to admit to herself.
Sango's utensils tapping on her glass cup shook Kagome out of her trance.
"Let's get you home so you can see him. I'm tired of talking to a zombie." Kagome's best friend smiled at Kagome's ashamed expression and shook her head, knowing that this was exactly what was going to happen, now all she had left to do was make sure Inuyasha understood that there was no running off to Kikyou this time. It was only Kagome, or nothing from her at all. Sango wasn't going to see her best friend hurt.
Again.
The older woman payed for their meals and they left, deciding that they would stop on the way home to get Inuyasha some ramen at the convenient store.
"Chicken or beef?"
Kagome thought hard about it for a moment then grabbed one of each. "He's a ramen monster." She said, seeing Sango's bewildered look.
"Inuyasha! Please! I'm sorry! Please call me back!"
Kagome and Sango froze, hearing the familiar high-pitched voice of Inuyasha's ex-girlfriend. They looked at one another, then walked towards where the voice came from at the edge of the aisle. In the back corner, Kikyou, along with a man with long black, wavy hair stood staring at each other. He had his hand on her hip and she was ignoring him. Atleast until she took the phone from her ear.
"This is all your fault, Naraku!" She hissed. He chuckled darkly.
"You care about the half-breed." It was more of a statement than a question.
"No," Her dull eyes scanned around the area, causing Kagome and Sango to jump back a bit. "I care about the money he is going to inherit when he takes Sesshomaru's place in their family business."

A/N: I'm beat. I can't take anymore. Is. Too. Tired.
I tried to make this chapter a little longer. No Kouga again yet, him and Miroku will appear soon. But Shippou, Kagome's child, has appeared, and Kikyou's dark secret has been revealed.
