Silently walking out of Rin's bedroom Kagome turned and sighed as she looked at the room she had to go to. 'I really hope nothing happens tonight.' Then she made her way to the door and in the room. She looked around and then blinked when she saw him standing in the window looking out. The light from a full bathed his silvery white hair, almost giving it a glow effect. The look on his face was one of concern as he starred out over the gardens. "Your mother is not happy is she?"

"To say the least. She is not happy about it. Feels that I will be weakened by you like my father was Inuyasha's mother and die."

With a sigh she dropped her head. "Then come and kill me blaming me huh?"

"Iie. You and any pups we will have are as she said nothing to her. The only thing she would do is taken in Rin."

Going to sit on her side of the bed Kagome arched her eyebrow at him. "I don't get the two of you. Your demon chooses me as your mate. You seem to really care about Rin and your mother. I thought you both hated all humans and would rather kill us than look at us."

"Before Rin I would have killed you along with your friends to stop him from laying claim. After that first night, it was made official and no one can change it. Not you nor I. Rin showed me no fear. Even when I told her I would kill her if she came back to where I was healing from my fight with Inuyasha. That intrigued me. She started to travel with me and quickly became someone I could not do with out." Flashes of pain flew through his mind. "And dread the day when it happens and I can do nothing about it. For both her and you."

Her eyes wide Kagome blinked as she looked at him. "What?"

"Now that we are mated. There will never be anyone else. When you die of old age, the only things I will have will be any pups we have."

"But if that is the case then why was Inuyasha your half brother?"

"The mating between my father and mother was arranged. No bond was ever formed. So when he started to have his trysts with Izayoi mother left. It was for convince that they were ever under the same roof. I feel the bond that is forming between us already. Soon you will start to feel it as well. With this bond in place, even after your body gives out on you and are not with me anymore, I will still be bound to you and will never be with another."

Kagome couldn't feel anything coming from him, but she could see the worry that flashed through his eyes. "So this is really a life sentence for you huh?"

Moving to stand next to her he gave her a nod. "You could say that." He then let out a sigh as he reached down and grabbed her hand and pulled her up to her feet as he wrapped his arms around her shoulders, bending his head to rest his forehead on the top of her head. His white hair falling like a perfect veil around their faces. "I am sorry."

Her eyes were wide as she stood there in his embrace. His arms gave her a strong yet content feeling. But the way he held onto her there was a desperate pleading in them. "Sorry?"

"For the other night. I really did not want to hurt you like I know I did. If I could have done anything to stop this I would have, I am sorry." His hold on her tightened as he spoke in barely a whisper.

"Sesshomaru where is this coming from? You already said that and we...................." Then she gasped as his hold tightened. "Sesshomaru................."

"It is the agreement. That you could have come to that so soon after what I did. I know this is going to be hard for you to understand but when a demon mates for life like I have done with you, it is comparable to what the humans call falling in love."

Her eyes went wide. "That is the first time you have used that word."

"The need, the urge to claim you as my mate that night, wasn't for the reasons that you seem to think they were for. I did not enjoy the smell of your tears, I did not enjoy the pain in your voice. It wasn't done in a need to lay claim to what is mine, or for control. Once he chose you, my entire life was turned upside down. The last two days have been the most peaceful for me in months."

"Months?"

Refusing to let her go he sighed. "That's right. I fought as long as I could. I had no desire for you, I had no desire to kill Inuyasha or your friends. He no longer had my father's blood in him and I was fine with that. But it was the thought of you being with anyone else but me that drove me insane and caused my demon to come out. Had I acted on his first command and made my intentions clear it could have happened differently. I............................................."

Kagome had tears streaming from her eyes as she felt his entire body shake. Then the feeling of being scared washed all over her. But she wasn't scared at that point. That was when she noticed that he was shaking as he hugged her to him. Could she ever love him for real? She highly doubted it. But she never expected to see Sesshomaru showing any emotion. She never thought she would get an 'I'm sorry' from him for what happened either. But she couldn't help but feel sorry for him in the state that he was in right now. In a small gesture she reached her hands up and fisted his haori in her hands. Then shocking him she leaned her head into his chest as she let out a mess of sobs. 'Damnit!'

Moving his head he looked down at the small woman sobbing in his arms. "Kagome.................................................................."

Kagome took a couple of deep breaths then she wiggled out of his arms and took a couple of steps away from him, turning her back to him as she covered her mouth with a hand. "I hate what you did to me. I had never felt pain like that before. And emotionally I don't know if I will ever be able to move on from it either you know. But....................................I............................................................................................" She then turned and looked into his terrified eyes as fresh tears streamed from her eyes. "I also never thought I would hear you say you are sorry. Or anything else you just said." Then she fell to her knees, looking to her right as he instantly was on his next to her. "You said it is like you are in love with me right?"

"Yes."

Hanging her head she choked back another sob. "I can never love you though. The most I can do is an act for Rin and tolerate everything else I have to do with you. After what happened, love is not going to come into play here. But....................................I won't fight against it either. I have nothing outside waiting for me anymore............................." Then she let out a startled gasp when he reached out and pulled her face to look up at his and she saw the mist of his own tears in his eyes.

"Go."

"What?"

Leaning his head down he gave her a gentle kiss that lingered for a moment then ran his hand through her hair. "I will figure something out to quell him. Go. Just, please take Rin with you."

"But....................................................................................................." She was shaking now as she felt the sorrow and fear wafting all over her from him. What was he doing?

Pulling her to her he gave a half smile as a single tear rolled down his right cheek. "Can I have one night where we come together of your free will, then you can leave and find someone you can love. Someone you can be happy with. Will you give yourself to me tonight, just one time? Then in the morning you can take Rin and leave and be happy."

"But I thought that Rin.................................."

"Once you are gone and I can no longer smell or sense you, he will come out and we will have a battle of wills. I do not want Rin anywhere near me when that happens. Just take care of her and please don't tell her what I did."

Kagome was shaking as she looked up at him. He was actually going to let her go. She gave a nod. "I will. I will take part in it tonight."

Sesshomaru lifted her into his arms and laid her on the bed, following her down and blanketing her body with his own. "Thank you." Then he dipped his head and pressed his lips to hers with a desperate plea as her arms shakily went up to wrap around his neck. 'The west is done. I am sorry mother. I can't do this to her, human or not.'
