Also I just wanted to give you guys a heads up. I've mad the decision that this isn't going to be one of those fics where Hiei shifts personalities and is suddenly lovey dovey right away. personallity changes take time!
For easier reading when using telepathy: ‘Hiei’, ‘Kurama’, ‘Yoko’, ‘Kagome’
Chapter 6: Decisions
As Kagome followed the group into the office she watched as the oversized chair turned around to reveal Koenma. “Wow, you really are a toddler.” Kagome said as she stared in curiosity.
Koenma however was not pleased. “I am not a toddler! I merely look like one. I am Prince Koenma of the Spirit World.” Saying this Koenma jumped up on his desk. “Now Ms. Kagome it is indeed a pleasure to meet you. I’ve heard my father speak greatly of all the good you have done and the lives you have bettered on your journey through the past.” With this he gave a short bow.
“Oh! Well, geez. I didn’t really do anything that great. Shoot it’s my fault that the jewel broke in the first place.” Kagome blushed lightly ducking her head.
‘Humble as well as brave. I like her’ Yoko had awakened from his nap and was showing some intense interest in the young miko. ‘I remember the stories about the Shikon Miko. She was said to have a very kind and loving heart. We should use this opportunity to get close to her.’
‘Yoko! She’s Kuwabara’s cousin!’ Kurama was a little shocked with Yoko’s quick judgment and decision.
Koenma continued “That does not change the fact that you chose to fix that mistake, and as a result you have given hope to so many who had none. Not to mention the lives that you have saved… However this Naraku is becoming way too strong for my liking. Not to mention word of the jewel has gotten out in the Makai and demons from your own time are now trying to get the jewel from you.”
“Koenma! I the great Kuwabara shall protect my dear cousin from this terrible evil!” Kuwabara said as he raised a fist in the air and puffed out his chest.
Kagome just couldn’t hold in her giggle any longer, which earned her a disapproving glare from her cousin. “ I’m…he he… sorry Kazuma but … he he… you’re just so funny. Besides who says I need protecting?” Kagome’s expression turned serious with her last comment. “ I’m not the untrained schoolgirl I once was. I can hold my own. Besides I have Inuyasha and the others when I go back to the feudal era.” Kagome smirked while putting a hand on her hip.
‘See Red she even has the confidence in her own skill that we find so sexy. You saw how she handled herself with that demon before. She’d make a perfect mate!’
‘Whoa! We are not making that important of a decision that quickly!’
‘We’ll see…’ Yoko left off with that cryptic statement.
No one notice the hiyoukai observing it all from the background with avid attention. ‘I remember the tales as well. She was supposedly quite powerful…hn…’ Hiei interjected ‘I would watch your step I don’t trust Mikos.’
Kurama wasn’t that surprised by Hiei’s skepticism, but it did make him wonder if maybe he should be a little more wary himself. She was after all capable of turning him to dust. His human blood would slow her down, but if she was a powerful as was purported then she wouldn’t have an issue killing him if she wanted.
“I understand that you are a very capable person Kagome. But it would put me and my father at ease if you would just except the help and let me send my detectives with you.” Koenma sighed. “At the very least think of it as a way to decrease the fatalities when you have to fight Naraku. With my team it will be much easier.” With that Koenma returned to his chair and gave them a dismissive wave. “Botan why don’t you take them back home now.” He said wearily.
…..
Botan created the portal and returned them to the Kuwabara residence just as Shizuru was exiting the Kitchen.
“Kazuma! Where have you been? And why did you take Kagome with you? We agreed that you wouldn’t get her wrapped up in this!” Shizuru rushed out of the kitchen as she saw Kagome step through the portal.
“Yeah well…” Kuwabara rubbed the back of his head as sweat rolled down his forehead. “I didn’t really have a choice, she’s part of my next mission.” He ducked his head trying to avoid further unwanted attention from his very angry sister.
Kagome sighed and stepped forward taking Shizuru by the arm and leading her to sit. “Relax Shizuru.” Kagome added calmly. “Kuwabara isn’t to blame. I haven’t been completely honest with you either. I’ll make some tea and tell you my story.” Kagome stood to go make tea when Shizuru grabbed her arm.
“Kagome! What happened to your arm?” Shizuru used her other hand to move the remnants of Kagome’s sleeve, that had been torn by the demon earlier that day, and revealed the white bandaging underneath.
