Won second place for prompt!
With only one rider on the horse, it did not take that long for Jakotsu to arrive in town only to realize at that very moment that he actually had memories of the place. He had figured, somewhere in the back of his mind, that like with his childhood home that he would be able to recognize it once he had seen it. But the more he thought about it, the more Jakotsu realized that the reason he did not remember it was because he had never seen it.
But then again, he really shouldn't be surprised. He already knew that the sheriff was not aware of his existence, so why would his mother have brought him into town and given him a chance to remember this place? In the four years that he lived there, he was probably kept locked away in the house; unseen by all. In fact, he remembered so very little about the yard that he would not be surprised if he learned she had kept him inside all the time; so afraid someone would see the freak she had given birth to.
Putting thoughts of his unresolved mother issues aside for now, Jakotsu began making his way toward the general store. Stepping inside the dimly lit room, it wasn't hard for Jakotsu to realize something was off; the shelves were mostly bare and the few people that were in the store seemed unable to find anything they needed. Finding it odd, but having no time to worry about other people's problems for now, Jakotsu went around the store collecting what few items on his list that were actually in stock.
Flour, a few yards of thick absorbent cloth for towels and such, sugar, lard and coffee was all her could find. No dried or salted meats, no baking soda, no candles or dishes, no pots and pans; no a lot of things. He would just have to make due with what he had back home as far as dishes went; instead of being able to replace them as he had hoped. He realized it would probably have been a waste of money in the long run since they wouldn't have been able to take them all with them, but he could not stand the thought of using his mother's dishes.
But it would seem fate was telling him to get over such a discomfort. Making his way to the front of the store, Jakotsu set his items down on the counter and waited while the man behind it added the prices up in his head. "That'll be ten dollars. And we don't give credit."
