Touga found his children outside in the sunshine. Inuyasha was trying to find a tree that would work for playing fetch. Sesshoumaru wanted to play and had hoped his Father would be around since he did promise to play with him.

While Inuyasha was busy searching for a tree Touga told Sesshoumaru about the situation.

“They want his head? Well they cannot have it. I will destroy all of Japan if I must to keep my brother alive. I will kill the elders one by one if they even think about taking my brother’s life.”

Sesshoumaru stated angrily.

“Well that isn’t up to you to decide Sesshoumaru. Inuyasha made his choices and he must face the consequences. I do not want his death any more then you do. I need to know however if he has been brought back to life by the will of tensaiga.”

Father asked.

“Yes, that is how he is with us now and Pearl. Pearl was in Inuyasha’s body, the body split and Inuyasha was reborn so to speak. Tensaiga also made them both younger in their human form.”

Sesshoumaru said as calmly as he could. He loved Father, no doubt, but he would even fight Father to save his brother.

“Then there is but one option. Would you take his place sacrificing your head for his?”

Father asked and Sesshoumaru’s jaw clenched.

“They want my head?”

Sesshoumaru stated through gritted teeth.

“Just if your brother can have a substitute would you take his place son?”

Father asked again.

“I bow down to no man! I cannot abide even answering that question!”

Sesshoumaru fumed.

“You would not be bowing to anyone Sesshoumaru and I would ask for the right to take your head. It would be a clean cut and I would reattach it swiftly. I would do this myself son, but I do not have a treaty with the wolves.”

Touga stated simply. It was just a onetime thing and Sesshoumaru certainly was making a big deal out of it.

“If that wolf is asking for this then I demand the right to take his life!”

Sesshoumaru snarled.

“Young Prince Kouga is asking for nothing of the sort. It is the council I am concerned about.”

Father stated.

“If that is their ruling then they can consider their lives forfeit. They had better find another way to punish my brother Father.”

Sesshoumaru growled.

“You cannot kill everyone Sesshoumaru. I will not allow it. However now that we are here I did promise to play fetch with you so let us go.”

Father said with a smile patting his son on the back who looked at his Father in frustration. He lost the mood to play.

Inuyasha found a nice big tree and pulled it out of the ground by its roots. He hoped it was big enough for their game.

Pearl watched as dirt chunks fell from the bottom of the tree Inuyasha was carrying and was curious on how they would make this work.

“Got a tree Sess. Hope it will work for ya.”

Inuyasha said with a smile as he went over to see his brother who hadn’t changed forms yet.

“Inuyasha………”

Sesshoumaru started to say he wasn’t in the mood anymore, but seeing how happy his brother was in finding a tree for them he couldn’t hurt his brother’s feelings. Grasping Inuyasha into his arms and kissing him passionately Sesshoumaru held Inuyasha for a moment. Sesshoumaru knew he would be absolutely miserable without his little brother. He loved him. No matter what Inuyasha was not allowed to die. Even such a thought was sacrilege.

“It is fine little brother.”

Sesshoumaru said before walking over to his Father as they both changed forms. What surprised Inuyasha was that Father was huge compared to Sesshoumaru. He wasn’t sure this tree was going to be big enough for a dog that size.

The two red eyed silver fur covered dogs sat waiting for Inuyasha to start the game. Inuyasha just hoped he could throw this thing far enough away to make it worth the effort. Picking up the tree, Inuyasha launched it into the air throwing it with all his strength. It flew up over the dogs and out into the forest.

At that the dogs both took off racing through the forest to see which one of them could find the tree and bring it back. Father was in the lead, but neither dog knew the exact scent of the tree Inuyasha threw so it was going to be a hunt to find the light scent of Inuyasha on that particular tree.

Touga found a tree that looked close to the one Inuyasha threw and stopped to sniff it. Sesshoumaru ran on a head of him knowing that scent so well he knew that Father was wrong. Sesshoumaru could scent Inuyasha even when the boy was downwind he knew his brother so very well.

Sesshoumaru found the tree and was about to pick it up when Father jumped on him knocking him over. The two tumbled into the forest and Father decided to play fight with his son. The two of them were barking, nipping, and biting at each other smacking one another around with their huge paws until Sesshoumaru eventually rolled over tucking his tail between his legs in surrender crawling out from under his Father he raced for the tree getting it into his mouth then ran as fast as he could back to Inuyasha who was waiting patiently for them to return.

“I wonder what it is like being them.”

Pearl said in curiosity. She was technically a dog, but not a full dog demon. She wanted so much to be a big dog with them and play.

“It has got to be cool if you ask me.”

Inuyasha said taking the tree and throwing it again for his brother and Father. This time it went much farther, but it also did not have the dirt on it plus Sesshoumaru forgot about his acidic drool so there was less of the tree then what was originally there.

While the dogs raced for the tree, Pearl decided to attack Inuyasha in a very dog like way knocking him onto the ground and crawling over him to dominate him. Inuyasha was having none of that as he rolled her under him with a wide grin. Then he tickled her as she screamed in delight.

The two of them rolled on the ground play fighting until Inuyasha pinned Pearl’s arms over her head and nipped her chin affectionately.

“I love you.”

Inuyasha said to Pearl as the two of them lay in each other’s arms.

“I love you too.”

Pearl said kissing Inuyasha for the longest time until both dogs came back with what was left of the tree.

Sesshoumaru dropped the tree wagging his tail and then barked to Inuyasha and Pearl. Sesshoumaru had a great idea.

Barking to his Father he told his Father his plan and the two dogs lay on the ground waiting for their charges to climb on. Pearl climbed on Sesshoumaru’s back grabbing the fur in her fists so she would not fall off and Inuyasha climbed on Father.

At that the two dogs raced into the sky flying across Japan.

To Pearl and Inuyasha it was amazing. They saw their whole world from above and it reminded Pearl of looking out of an airplane.

The air was a bit colder in the sky then down below so Pearl huddled down a bit into the fur to warm herself.

Inuyasha simply sat looking around feeling the air on his skin enjoying every moment of the experience. He hoped to do it again sometime soon since this was awesome.

The two dogs landed at a lake to drink before heading back. When they landed it was already close to night as the sun started to set in the horizon. It was a beautiful sight.

Inuyasha and Pearl climbed off of the dogs and Pearl gave a kiss to Sesshoumaru’s snout gently petting him.

Sesshoumaru and Father changed back into their humanoid forms and Inuyasha had Pearl climb on his back as he carried her back to the castle.

Inuyasha was a bit nervous, but he was certain he wanted Sesshoumaru to take him tonight. He had been thinking about it a lot and he was certain that it was the right time for him. Besides if he never did this then it would never happen.

Father went on ahead of them to go speak with the council to find out their decision. He would fight them if they wanted his son’s death, but he also knew them to be fair and just. As he walked up the hill towards his destination he wondered if he would have to subdue his son and take his head in Inuyasha’s place. It was the only viable option if they wanted a head for a head.

As the three mates headed for their chambers Benjirou came to get Inuyasha to take him to the elders. They had spoken to Kouga and had made their ruling. Now it was time for the sentencing.

Inuyasha went with Benjirou wondering what was going on. The man simply told him to follow.

The two of them stopped before a large door and Benjirou waited for the door to open as he used some of his magic to open it. Once the doors opened Inuyasha saw Kouga and the elders with his Father looking rather concerned.

Kouga was talking to Elder Akio who simply nodded to the young wolf Prince and everything seemed as normal as could be other than for Father.

Suddenly two guards put shackles on Inuyasha and Benjirou held the boy steady as the elders approached and Kouga stopped talking.

“You have been accused of attacking an ally and his family. Although you gave your ally his men back and did not kill them, you still stand accused of the crime of trying to kill Prince Kouga as well as his Lords.”

Eiko stated with authority and Inuyasha waited for the blow.

“In light of this event we the council and Prince Kouga would normally take your head in the place of those you beheaded. Since you are hanyou however we will not. You do not have the regeneration properties of a demon and no one has died that was an ally of yours. However you did injure your ally severely and some of his people want blood rites. Thus you will suffer the crucible in three days from today this will commence. Until that point you will be incarcerated with the same privileges of your brother. I give you three hours to spend with your mates before you both will be taken again to the dungeons.”

Eiko stated.

“What is the crucible?”

Inuyasha asked.

“You will see.”

Eiko stated with a wicked smile.

“Elder Eiko, mutt face deserves to know at least a little bit about it and I want to add a pack test to this with all the wolves present who were beheaded so that no one can say anything more about it.”

Kouga said.

“Are you certain this is what you want Lord Kouga? Do you not want to add your own punishment to the accused?”

Daisuke asked.

“I already did what I wanted to do to him. I am just trying to make peace with my pack mates is all. Besides, I don’t want him dead.”

Kouga said.

“The crucible is a series of very difficult physical tests and mental tests Inuyasha. It is done throughout a whole day and the pack test will determine if you are worthy enough to be a part of a pack. If you fail any test you will have to do it again and again until you pass.”

Father stated to his son.

“Doesn’t sound too bad.”

Inuyasha said with a shrug.

“Oh it is bad little one. However when you are done you will perhaps learn something from it.”

Benjirou stated.

“You have three hours from now to spend with your mates. Unshackle him so he may do so.”

Eiko stated as she had the guards unshackle him.

Inuyasha then rushed from the room to find Sesshoumaru to tell him of what was going to occur.
