More so than at any other point in his life, Jakotsu felt overwhelmed with a strong desire to feed his wanderlust and found himself wondering if he would even be able to stay in place long enough for Bankotsu to heal. All his life, he could remember the desperate need to come back home, but now that he was here, he couldn't wait to get away. This place simply held too many painful memories and no happy ones.
Saying he did not have a happy childhood was one thing, but he didn't even have one single memory of his mother, of his time here that wasn't something he wanted to forget. Jakotsu knew that if there was ever a moment in history that his mother had loved him and shown him that, he would have held into that memory for dear life. One small glimmer of hope in an otherwise desolate existence was not soon forgotten.
Too wrapped up in such thoughts, Jakotsu remained unaware of the group of men that were following silently behind him; sneers marring their faces. As he remained obvious to his stalkers, Jakotsu thought nothing of it as he pulled back gently on the reigns to stop the horse and could still hear the sound of hooves hitting the ground. Confused, but not yet concerned, Jakotsu dismounted and tied up the horse before stepping back toward the incoming men to wait for them.
As he watched, four men drew closer to him that he had never seen before; or at least that is what he had believed. Had he been paying attention at the sheriff's office, he would have recognized one of the men as having been the one sitting on the steps. But as he did not know this and had no way of knowing that he had gone to alert his friends of his arrival after learning who he was, Jakotsu simply stood there waiting.
Too late he realized something was wrong as the men stopped before him and one, he would later learn was the leader, pulled his gun before Jakotsu could even think about his. Before Jakotsu could ask what he wanted or offer up what little money he had left, the rider began discharging rounds at his feet; causing him to drop his newly acquired supplies as he 'danced' away from the bullets. "So you finally decided to show your face, freak. And here I was hoping a cow pie like you would have had the good sense to die already," the man taunted from the saddle, apparently having no intention of dismounting.
"What did I ever do to you?!" Jakotsu demanded as he mentally went over to his trip into town; convincing himself that he had not flirted or smiled at them, or anyone else there, inappropriately to cause them to react this way. In fact, he was quite certain they shouldn't have even been able to figure out his preference by anything he had done or not done in town that day. He was always very careful not to give himself away while he was dressed like a man; it would draw too much unwanted attention to him.
Rather than answering his question right away, the man opted instead to spit at his feet with a sneer. "It had only been a few years, surely you couldn't have forgotten me already," he insisted, tilting back his hat so Jakotsu could have an unobstructed view of his face. Even with the help, Jakotsu could still only stare at him in silence for a moment, unable to place his face until a stray thought appeared in the back of his mind.
A young group of boys glaring at him while an unrelated boy lay dead at his feet; slated by his own weapon. "You lived at the orphanage," Jakotsu commented, barely remembering him as they had never really crossed paths during their stay there. Even with the boy dying, they hadn't cared that he had died, only they it had not been Jakotsu to fall. "I never did anything to you," he insisted, beginning to grow worried about Bankotsu.
One would assume the gunshots would have sent him running out, even if he was a wanted man, but there was no sign of him. Had they perhaps sent others out here before him so they could ambush him and they stumbled upon Bankotsu when they arrived? Before he could dwell on it further, the man began speaking again,"You being alive is more than enough reason to despise you. You have until dusk to get out of my town. I moved here once I came of age and I sure as hell am not sharing my town with the likes of you," the man insisted, once again spitting at Jakotsu.
"I'm not gonna leave until I am good and ready to. It was your choice to move into my town, if you have a problem with me being here, then you can just leave," Jakotsu insisted defiantly. It did not matter that he only planned on being there for a couple of weeks at most, that it not meant he was gonna be intimidated by someone who is barely man and waving a gun around.
"Either you leave by dusk or you will die when I return. Either way is fine by me," he admitted before turning his horse around and starting back toward town with the others following him. As soon as they were far enough away, Jakotsu lost the courage that had been keeping him standing throughout the ordeal and sank to his feet with a shuddering breath.
Before he could even begin trying to stand up, Jakotsu heard feet rushing toward him and glanced up afraid they has returned. Instead, he found Bankotsu running barefoot with one hand holding up his pants and the other holding his gun.
