"I need paper, ink and a pencil!" Once awaken, Bankotsu soon spoke out loud and that was his way of bidding good morning.
Ailyn's eyes rolled, then she got up completely uninterested on his sudden excitement. Approximately a half hour later, the duo found the monk Bankotsu has robbed the cloak - his dead body in fact, fallen between some bushes, with his bag wide open, probably already explored by the lass' traveling companion - and, shamelessly, Bankotsu just put a hand there inside, messing the parchments till he finally laughed satisfied, announcing:
"I knew I would find it here!" He pulled some papers, nankin and a pencil.
"So will you become an artist from now on?" She mocked, staring at him from the distance.
Bankotsu gave no attention to her teasing and just kept holding those materials in hands.
"Come, we are almost there!" The mercenary carelessly caught Lynnie's arm and pulled her along, walking fastly through the land.
Ailyn rumbled, cursed and yelled, yet her body has been almost dragged till the edge of the hill. Bellow that cliff, it was possible to behold an imponent castle. At last, the undead warrior unmade the grip around her arm and sat on the green vast grass. He stood there in silence, as if starting a profound meditation about any random matter the lass couldn't understand. Then he smiled out of the blue, probably feeling blessed by any sort of muse, and tried to write an ideogram on the paper. Soon such joy faded as ephemeral as it appeared, and the tanned features stiffened in irritation, so his large, strong hands crumpled the paper, making a ball to just throw it away. That strange cycle repeated itself a couple of times.
Crazy corpse! With bewilderment evident in her whole visage, still on her feet, Ailyn stared at him while twisting her lips
"Wash your faces..." The lad mumbled to himself. "No, it won't do!" He did another paper ball and threw it ravine below. Again, the mercenary wrote another thing that didn't fulfill his expectations still. "No, no and no!" More paper balls fell down from the hill. Ailyn laughed, but soon stopped when receiving an annoyed glare.
In some instants though, the boy from another day showed up to Bankotsu again, announcing his comrades' return. So, a loud metallic sound reverberated, coming near, and soon a creature half human, half machine shone in the sun, his giant forms reflected in the eyes of the foreigner woman. If it was hard to recognize that thing as a man before, now that he had cannons, silver iron "paws" and moved like a wagon surely she wouldn't find a word to describe Ginkotsu's species. Yet, any opinion remained safely kept into her imagination. Ailyn chose to be a silent observant, so she just watched that colossus come, bringing the remnant members of the band on his "back". She listened the men telling their leader about the recent events and failures, till Renkotsu – who has been looking at her in a detesting way sometimes – wrote for Bankotsu a message the leader considered genial, yet to her it has sounded senseless. Wash your neck? What nonsense is that? She couldn't help but roll her eyes again. If it wasn't Renkotsu almost swallowing her with his gaze, it was Jakotsu's murderous glare following her steps. Luckily, there wasn't time for start a fight, because Bankotsu just declared they would attack the castle.
On this task, Ailyn would be nothing but a mere spectator. The lass made it clear to the group that she wouldn't move a finger about it, since it wasn't part of her job to rescue an eighty integrant of the band. The men laughed, not expecting nor wishing for her help anyways.
Better this way. She thought, seeing Bankotsu leave with Renkotsu, Ginkotsu, Suikotsu and Jakotsu. At first, Ailyn didn't get into the large building, the Red Rose stood from afar hearing the sounds of clash and the agonizing screams of dying people inside. Her turquoises watched as dark smoke ascended from the ground to the skies, and only when quietude fell upon the demised land, Ailyn got to it's yard through a portal she evoked. Except from Bankotsu, the other fellows looked surprised at her entrance. Vanity reigned inside the blonde beauty till she hear the leader of the band complaining because his androgynous comrade didn't spare a woman to serve them sake.
Seriously?! Blood boiled inside her veins, making her pale face turn red. Ailyn hit firmly her feet on the sand while walking through Bankotsu and Jakotsu, forcing both to move away so she could pass and isolate herself into a wooden chamber right behind.
"What is wrong with this wench?" The tall lad with high voice asked, widening eyes.
"You ask me?" Bankotsu shrugged, not giving much importance to her reaction.
Resting against the wall, Ailyn asked herself the same question as Jakotsu. Her mood has never been the best, but letting herself lose composure for so little?
Her fingers ran down her cheeks, then she threw her bangs behind and took a deep breath, seeking for calmness. Whatever that calvary could be, she was certain it was temporary. She just had to endure it as long as it lasted.
It is not worse than living inside a tree. Ailyn tried to convince herself.
Renkotsu's voice on the other side regained her attention. He was asking Bankotsu if they really could trust in Naraku. Ailyn's heart raced. Though she never really cared about such bald man, his inquiry had lightened an odd hope within her chest. For as much as the lass wanted to speak everything she knew about the hanyo, if those words came out her life would be at stake. Yet, if one of Bankotsu's friends could make him consider the matter and think about unbinding from the villain, she could unite forces with the lad and...
Wait, what am I thinking? Ailyn shook her head. Soon she realized it was indeed better to not let such ideas spread, for Bankotsu himself showed no interest on knowing more about Naraku's background. He was a simple, practical man in the end, standing there to fulfill his work and enjoy life.
Any conversation that could start from conspiracy theories faded with the sound of a violent little tornado arriving. Looking through the door's gap, Ailyn noted the presence of a tanned yokai, his black straight hair tied in a ponytail was waving in the wind, her eyes got stuck into his figure as soon as she heard the Shichinintai talking about the Shikon shards that handsome fellow carried in his legs.
Still hidden, the lass saw Bankotsu lift the halberd - which she came to find out to be the so mentioned companion of his - and the weapon might weigh at least two times more than himself, yet his arm didn't wave a bit. How his movements were fast and gracious while swinging such marvelous weapon, he looked far from human in strength and agility - she wondered, with one hand touching the doorframe, only one eye of hers into view. Yet, a single sky-blue eye was enough to caught the attention of the wolf demon.
"Hey, you... I know you!" Clearly the yokai was referring to her, although the Red Rose was sure she has never ever crossed paths with him before. Such distraction could have cost him dearly if Inuyasha hadn't arrived in time to take his place on the battle against Bankotsu. Tetsusaiga and Banryu's blade meeting made sparkles fly in the air, and when Ailyn could notice, that decayed castle was already a scenery filled with Naraku's enemies.
The Inuhanyo's friends got there and confronted Bankotsu's comrades. Not only Koga - the wolf - has noticed her presence in there, but also Kagome who felt the Jewel shard's energy on her forehead. Luckily for the Scottish lass, Renkotsu began to chase the girl, giving her no time to denounce Ailyn to the others.
Everything seemed to be under control, so she remained concealed and mute, masking her scent and aura with magic. Gaelic words were evoked in her thoughts while Anna's sister, with eyes sealed, concentrated herself to stay invisible to their opponents' sight.
However, a burst of light put her in warning, it was approaching that place real fast. She could see Bankotsu putting Banryu on his front as a shield, then he ran into her direction, threw himself inside that chamber and jumped over her body, holding her violently against his chest.
"Shit, we have no time!" He shouted desperately and closed his eyes tight. Ailyn immediately understood what that meant when seeing the bright golden lumen enclosing, hitting the room, making the roof start to crack. So, she evolved Bankotsu in her arms, a green circle popped under the couple and they fell inside of it.
"He's gone!" Inuyasha said full of self-confidence, still wielding his large sword, contoured by fierce blows of wind. "A human couldn't survive my Kaze no Kizu!".
"I wouldn't be so sure, mutt-face!" Koga pointed his index finger to a glowing circle emerging higher than the ground. From inside that portal, everyone watched two bodies fall and roll over the earth, a man upon a laying woman, both visibly disoriented. At last, came the halberd which sunk in the sand beside them.
"You?!" Inuyasha was referring to Ailyn.
"It's Anna's sister!" Sango exclaimed.
"She still has the shard on her forehead!" Kagome finally revealed. "Hey, why are you fighting for Naraku? He almost made your own sister kill you!"
"It does not concern to you!" She answered harshly, while Bankotsu was helping her to get up.
It wasn't just Annabelle's friends whose eyes were stuck on her, but also Renkotsu and Jakotsu's ones. Bankotsu, on his turn, was the only person who not seemed to judge her, even if his gaze was incessantly locked on her visage.
A voice terribly known by Ailyn echoed from every corner of that ruined castle, and unexpectedly the creature wearing a baboon pelt appeared, this time he scented like flowers.
"Naraku..." She grew pale and cold, finding balance while grabbing Bankotsu's arm.
The orders were concise: they must retreat. That wasn't exactly what the leader of the Band of Seven wanted and he resumed to aim the halberd to Inuyasha, insisting on fighting, but Naraku's command – in truth, Naraku's puppet – was maintained and the group of men, with Ailyn's aid, realized that having their way out was the best option at the moment, otherwise they would end up being defeated right there.
They climbed onto the iron back of Ginkotsu and left, to the good of their own survival. The questions were many and overflowed from Bankotsu's comrades eyes while glaring at the woman with unique features. The Red Rose, pretty much embarrassed, looked at the daily sky to not have to deal with any of them.

"Big brother, why don't we take that woman's shard away?" By night, while they were camping in the woods, Jakotsu suggested repeatedly to Bankotsu.
"How many times will I have to explain that she is with us?" He answered impatiently, without looking to his friend.
"Big Brother, I'm on Jakotsu's side" Renkotsu said. "We should take her shard for you, and I'm also worried about one thing... Why is she Naraku's ally if he already tried to get rid of her? Worse still, he made her own sister attempt against her life! I'm still not convinced that this Naraku is someone we can rely on"...
"Where is the woman?" Suikotsu asked, looking to the sides.
She wasn't there. While they got distracted discussing what should be her fate, Ailyn just vanished in the air. Bankotsu, more serious than the usual, breathed deeply in and moved away from his fellowmen without giving any explanation. Into large, heavy steps, the mercenary disappeared between the trees, stopping in front of a creek. He looked around and saw nothing but grass, water and fireflies.
Did she really leave? He wondered, annoyed.
A emerald light induced him to look to the side, then Bankotsu saw her emerging suddenly, covered by a black shroud.
"Where have you been?" The mercenary stood sitting by the river, his voice sounded irritated.
"I went to fetch something." She came closer and sat by his side, apparently calm.
"Are you aware that everyone wants your head?" He was talking about his comrades.
"Everyone but you." The lass put down the hood, showing a smile.
"What?" Bankotsu felt confused when beholding that docile curve on her lips.
"You saved me." She stared at him, looking a bit content.
Bankotsu's mouth opened to answer her, yet he chose not speaking anything and his lips twirled almost in a nozzle. The lad turned his face to the side, resuming to look at the flowing waters, with his arms and legs crossed. His halberd was safely resting against a stone.
"I brought you something..." She said, sounding discretely timid although her features didn't show any shyness. After untying the ribbon of the shroud and take it away, Ailyn showed a big glass bottle on her lap, which liquid inside had a dark orange color.
"What is it?" Bankotsu observed her holding the bottle and offering the object to him.
"Whiskey," she said. "It is a drink from my homeland, I brought it for you".
The mercenary hummed, then caught the recipient into his hand. Finally he stared at her suspiciously. "And what guarantee do I have that you're not trying to poison me to steal my shards?"
Instead of answering with words, looking stern, Ailyn took the stopper off and fitted the bottleneck in her mouth, taking a big sip of the liquor.
"Are you satisfied now?" She asked while wiping the corner of her wet lips. At last, Bankotsu smiled and accepted the offer, taking a bigger sip than hers, almost choking in consequence.
"This is good stuff indeed!" The lad coughed between words.
"Careful, it is hard liquor." She warned while asking the bottle back to drink some more.
"Can I know the reason behind this gift?" Of course it was a matter of time and he wouldn't resist to tease her. However, that didn't stop him to keep drinking without worrying about what would come next.
"Well, you did not even had the time to celebrate the return of your..." Ailyn looked at his halberd nearby. "Companion!" Then she bursted into laughing, the lass laughed so hard that even she felt bewildered by her behaviour. "I told you it was hard liquor." She waved the bottle in her hand and drank a little more, stealing a laughter from him as well.
"It's getting hot..." Though he was laughing of Ailyn's alterations, Bankotsu noticed he wasn't so sober himself, for it felt harder than usual to untie the red ribbon of his armor. His fingers were a bit numb for the task.
Feeling weak for laughing so much, Ailyn helped him to get rid of those heavy superior pieces, and from the waist below he did the job. Soon, the revived warrior was wearing only his clear outfit, which shone under the moonlight and reflected the green gleam lightened by the foreigner's magic. Almost laying on the grass, drinking the elixir of impudence like they were swallowing water, they talked about the most trivial matters while laughing hard, in each giggle Ailyn released, she rested her head on his shoulder and held his muscular arm. Unaware of herself, the Red Rose was almost embracing the mercenary, and he clearly have been enjoying it, for his satisfied, even dumbfounded smile along a certain shade of malice into his eyes were very evident. When rising her face, the light blue eyes met the dark cobalt ones. Biting her own lips in a naughty way, she slid her index finger over his nose and went down his lips, contouring the soft skin carefully. He didn't make a move to stop her, neither tried to diminish their enclosure. Quietly smirking, Bankotsu stood on place while Ailyn leaned her body closer and said, almost sealing their mouths together:
"You look too much alive for a zombie" she muffled a giggle.
"You're so into me..." at last, wickedness purred into his whispering voice and galant chuckle.
"I beg your pardon?!" Ailyn felt like the alcohol just evaporated from her pores all of sudden, and her whole body seemed to be pulled back to reality again. Still, that cocky smile on his face made her belly twirl inside, and her heart felt unbearable big to fit into her chest.
If they persisted on going this way...
To be continued...
