Chapter Seven.

Kouga stood at the edge of the forest. He had smelled Kagome�s scent in the air and followed it. His nose smelled out if Inuyasha was anywhere nearby and found that the mutt was not there. �Kagome, what is wrong? Did the mutt hurt you? If he did, it will be the last thing he'll ever do.�
"Kouga!" She cried out his name and lunged into his arms, she started to bawl against his chest.
Kouga wrapped his arms around Kagome. "It's alright, I'm here, that mutt won't have a chance to hurt you again." he said as he picked her up and took her towards the tribe, they always seemed to make Kagome feel better.
The sentries smelled Kouga�s return and that of Kagome�s. They yelled out, �Kouga�s back and so is Kagome!�
The tribe immediately rushed towards the approaching members of the tribe. The two members of the tribe who really considered Kagome to be a true member was there in front waiting for them to appear.
�Greetings Kouga, welcome back home, sister!� cheered the two wolf demons.
Kagome greeted them as she walked into the den and was led towards Kouga�s nest, where she laid down and fell asleep.
One of the younger wolf pups crawled over to the sleeping Kagome and with a look to Kouga and seeing approval in the nod he gave, the pup curled up next to Kagome, who wrapped her arm around the young pup.
�Kouga, how did you convince her to come back with you?� asked one of the wolves.
"It seems the mutt did something to upset her."
�Want us to get a party together to go after him?� asked one of the wolves.
"Not right now, I want to make sure Kagome is going to be ok, she was in tears when I found her."
�As you wish, Kouga, should we post more guards around our domain just incase that mutt comes after her?� asked one of the other wolves, approaching their pack leader.
Kouga nodded. "I don't want the mutt to even get close,�
�Done!� one of the wolves quickly picked several wolves and sent them out to the outer edges of their domain with orders to keep the mutt away from the den. The sounds of howls were heard as the wolves quickly sent the word out to the outer sectors that more of the pack were heading their way.
Kouga turned back to the den and walked back to his nest to find Kagome still asleep with the pup curled up next to her. He knelt next to her and pushed her black hair out of her face. �I swear to you, Kagome, that mutt won�t hurt you again,�
Meanwhile, Inuyasha walked back to the village. Shippou came running towards him looking extremely worried.
�Inuyasha, have you seen Kagome? She�s not here!� cried Shippou.
"She probably just went back home for a bit,"
�I went to the well. I found this and I smelled another scent there. I think its Kouga�s!� cried Shippou, as he held up a hanky that Kagome had with her.
Inuyasha took hold of the hanky and smelled it. He could smell the familiar scent of Kagome and then that of Kouga. �Kouga,�
Shippou watched as the white haired half demon walk back to the village. �Aren�t you going to go after her?�
�Nope!� came the reply from Inuyasha, as he flung the hanky back towards Shippou.
Shippou went to find Sango and Miroku and told them what he found. They went to find Kagome.
They went in the same direction that they went the time Kouga kidnapped her before. Just as they neared the furthest edge of the wolf demon domain, they encountered a small pack of wolves.
�We wish to see Kouga, your leader. We come in peace,� Miroku stated calmly.
They took a quick sniff around. "Is the mutt with you?"
�No, he�s back at the village. He�s not even interested in finding her, the rotten little mutt,� growled Shippou.
"Then come along, she's probably still sleeping."
They followed the wolves back to the den. They were told to wait outside as one of the wolves went in. A few minutes later, Kouga emerged from the watery den.
�Where�s the silver haired mutt?� he growled off.
�Back at the village, not even caring about Kagome�s feelings for him, he�s more concerned about Kikyou,� said Sango.
�Kagome�s heart been hurt by that mutt, when she wakes in the morning, my pack and I will escort my mate back to the well and then we will wait till she returns to our time and then, she�ll become my mate, mother of my cubs, co-leader of this tribe,� Kouga stated.
�Are you stating your intent on marrying her?� asked Miroku.
�Yes, if that mutt hurts her so much, then she�ll need someone who loves her completely and who never would hurt her. I love her with all my heart,� Kouga stated. He stood there looking very proud of himself.
�The thing is does she love you the same way?� asked Miroku.
Kouga growled as he glared at the monk. �When she realizes that I am the one for her, she�ll feel the same way!�
Shippou said, �I doubt it! Her heart is with Inuyasha, even if that stupid mutt doesn�t even realize that he�s hurting the one woman who loves him.�
Kouga turned away from them and spoke to couple of the wolves. �Make sure that silver haired mutt didn�t follow them here,�
The two wolves nodded and ran off. The small pup who had curled up against Kagome yipped at Kouga�s feet and when he looked down at the pup, the pup turned to look up at the waterfall to see Kagome standing there.
�Kagome!� cried Shippou, as he raced over to her and hugged her.
Kagome caught Shippou and hugged him. "Sorry if I made you worry."
�Why didn�t you tell us you were leaving us, Kagome?� cried Shippou.
�I didn�t want to let Inuyasha�know that I was leaving. He would have just said something mean. I felt that leaving before they�well before anyone would even care about saying bye to me,� Kagome stated.
�Before they what?� asked Kouga, turning to Kagome and then to Sango and Miroku.
�Before they married, the mutt asked Kikyou to marry him,� said Miroku. �I told him she was unworthy of his hand in marriage but another deserved him more. But the mutt refused to listen.�
"That�s just like Inuyasha," grumbles Shippou.
"Well I�m not surprised, he's not worth Kagome's affections," said Kouga.
�Then who should her affection be directed to?� asked Sango.
�Me, of course, I love her with all my heart and I never said anything cruel to her and my people love her,� Kouga stated, as he wrapped his hand around Kagome�s hand.
"I'm almost inclined to agree with Kouga,� mumbled Miroku. He grabbed his head. �Ow!�
�Hush you!� whispered Sango. �But you are right, Kouga would be the better husband for Kagome, than Inuyasha unless that mutt decides that Kagome is the woman for him.�
"Every thing considered it would be a long time till that sinks in."
�By that time, he will be too late as Kagome would have chosen a husband and been claimed by her mate,� spoke Kouga.
�Kouga, I do believe I should go to the well and to my time to visit my family and deal with a few things there,� said Kagome, looking at him.
�All right, let me gather the tribe and we�ll escort you to the well,� Kouga said. He turned towards the wolves stood nearby. He howled loudly as other wolves were further away came running towards him. �We�re escorting Kagome, my future mate to the field where she will go back to her village before she returns here as my mate and co-ruler of this tribe,�
The wolves all howled and jumped up and down as they raced a head of them. The wolves acted very happy with the news that Kagome will become their co-ruler. Kouga lifted Kagome into his arms and within a matter of seconds there was no one standing where he was as he rushed off towards the well.
During the trip, Kagome though about what Miroku had said, Inuyasha was dense but Kouga came on just a little too strong but at least he was honest...but what would Araime think of all this, the moon�s rainbow, as much she could settle down with Kouga he was Araime's simple as that.
They reached the well; Kagome said her farewells to Shippou, Sango, Miroku and Kouga and the wolves who journeyed there with them. Kagome jumped into the well and transported back home to the present day Japan. But what she didn�t see was the black haired woman by the name of Kikyou watching from one of the trees.
�So Kagome picked Kouga, Inuyasha will be interested in this news,� thought Kikyou, as she returned to the village. She called her sister out of the hut and got her walking away from the hut so she could tell what she saw and how to drive Inuyasha crazy with jealousy. �He doesn�t realize that he loves her and I�m going to make him face his feelings for Kagome.�
�How will you pull it off, sister?� asked Kaede.
�Just follow my lead, sister. I saw Kagome with Kouga by the well in Inuyasha�s forest and they were kissing quite passionately. I think she has picked Kouga over Inuyasha,� said Kikyou.
�I had felt she had strong feelings for the wolf demon. It is a shame that Inuyasha lost the one person who helped him get out of those demon spells. But he has you, sister?� asked Kaede.
�Not for long, I�ll be one of the dead soon, I will be building my pyre soon and go back to the realm of the dead,� Kikyou said.
Inside the hut, Inuyasha listened and as their discussion grew about Kagome picking Kouga as her mate, his anger grew. He wanted nothing more than to go find Kagome and tell her off. He left the hut for the well. He smelled the air smelling the wolf demons still there. He knew it would be very long time before he would be able to get to the well and jump into it before Kouga caught him.
He waited downwind, till nightfall at least if the wolves were asleep he'd have a chance. But then he saw Kouga summon his wolves to his side and then they left the area. Inuyasha knew his chance was once very slim to get into the well before nightfall and how it just got big. Inuyasha crept out of his hiding area and then dashed to the well and leapt within the well.
Kouga watched from the area that they were at and smiled. �Sango, it worked. He�s gone into the well,�
�Good, he�ll go after Kagome and have to confront his feelings for her,� Sango said.
"I can't believe I agreed to this, the mutt really doesn�t deserve her."
�You want her to be happy, don�t you, Kouga?� asked Miroku.
Kouga sighed, "I do, and it�s that I thought she'd be happy with me, what have I been doing wrong?"
�Kagome appreciates the loving attention you give her but her heart is to Inuyasha, even if she does like you, her heart is already taken by another,� Sango said, looking at the wolf demon.
Miroku asked, �You do have a mate already in the wolf woman Araime, do you not?�
Kouga raised a brow. "She's as temperamental as I can be, and even less level headed then Inuyasha."
�But she�s the one for you,� Miroku stated. �Kagome�s is an even match to Inuyasha�s own personality.�
�Kagome is a match to that mutt�s personality!� snapped Kouga.
"Think about it, she's the level head for him like you are for Araime,"
Kouga growled but gave it up, they were right. He called his wolves together and left the area.
