My friend Linda came over
a couple of days later. I told her the news about Sesshoumaru. She didn’t
believe me at first. Heck, I still had troubling believing it. But I showed her
the pictures and I showed her the things I found on the internet. She looked
disbelieving at me and I just shrugged. We sat in my garden drinking coffee.
Sesshoumaru had taken a mug of the black stuff and then he jumped high into a
tree. Man, I wonder what my neighbours would think of that?
-
So what’s going to happen now? asked Linda and sipped some
coffee.
-
I am not sure; he wants to stay here with me for some reason.
He says he wants to be my bodyguard.
-
Your bodyguard? Do you need a bodyguard?
-
No, why should I? I work at a book publishing company; I
don’t go out very much. All I do is work, read and sleep. That’s all I do. But
my problem lies in getting him a identity of some sort. Sooner or later, people
will start asking about him; he is not the one to blend in very easily, I said
with a dark sigh and lit a cigarette.
-
You will have to take him with you to work too?
-
Most probably, I have some thoughts about leaving him alone
in a house full of modern things. He could get hurt and I don’t think he will
let me go alone either.
-
When are you going back to work? asked Linda and snatched a
cigarette from me and lit it and lied down on the grass.
-
Next week, I said and followed her suit and lied down to look
at the sky above. It was yet another beautiful summer day.
-
Your boss will have fit you know, most probably a heart
attack.
We giggled at that. Yeah,
most probably.
Sesshoumaru sat in his
tree, yes he had made it his tree, it fitted him perfectly. It was a large birch
and he had found a perfect spot on a large branch. He listened in on the girls
talk. Maria knew he could hear them, he had proven it to her time and time
again that his hearing was far better than any human. He was causing her
trouble, and yet she didn’t seem to worry too much. She was right when she told
her friend that he would not be left alone in her house. He had taken it upon
himself to be her bodyguard, and that meant he had to be with her all the time,
including when she went to work. But what worried him a little bit more was that
her reputation might be damaged with him living with her. She was a young woman,
and it was not wise to live with a man if you wasn’t mated or married.
Sesshoumaru frowned and
realized he had to talk to his friend. He gracefully jumped down from the tree
and landed silently on the ground below. He walked over to the two women and put
down his coffee mug between them.
-
Sesshoumaru? I asked and sat up when Sesshoumaru put down his
cup next to me.
-
This Sesshoumaru have been thinking, he said and kneeled next
to me.
-
Yes?
-
It is not suitable for me to live with you unless we are
mated or married, said Sesshoumaru.
-
Huh?
W-what are you talking about? I manage to stutter when his words sunk into my
head. “Marriage?”
Linda was a bit faster in
her mind than I was at the moment and she smiled softly to the lord. She put out
her cigarette and looked at Sesshoumaru.
-
Sesshoumaru-sama, she said. – In our time there is nothing
wrong with living together without being married. Nobody will look down on Mia
here because she’s living with you.
-
Maria-sama, is this true? He asked and looked at me.
-
Y-yes, that is true. Many today choose not to marry.
-
Your reputation will not be harmed?
-
No, it will not be harmed, I said and smiled. He could be so
cute sometimes.
-
Good, this Sesshoumaru would have hated if you were hurt in
anyway because of him, said Sesshoumaru and got up and walked back into the
house.
Linda and I just stared
at his retreating form. In black jeans and t-shirt he was a killer. He hated the
shoes I got for him; he rather walked in his blue formfitting thingies. Linda’s
face then split up into a wide smile.
-
Dear Goddess, I think he has a thing for you, she said and
poured some more coffee into our cups.
-
W-what? No, we are friends, nothing else, I mumbled, but I
knew I wanted it to be a bit more. But I didn’t dare to tell anyone about that
yet.
-
If you say so, said Linda not believing me at all. – But we
have still the problem of getting him some for of identity. For a while it could
work with saying that he’s here on vacation or visiting you. But that will not
last forever. And if you tell people that he’s your bodyguard will not work
either. But how is it possible to give identity to someone that does not exist?
The only answer to that
would be to commit a act of crime. And I have not done anything of the sort in
my entire life. And I will not start with it now. But a small voice in the back
of my head told me that it would be the only thing that would work.
-
So what do you suggest Linda?
-
Tell everyone who asks that he is your boyfriend. For now,
until we can figure out how to get him the papers he needs.
-
The papers he needs… you do realize that we can’t go to the
police or the government to get them, I said with a frown.
-
Yeah… I know. But still… sooner or later he must have them.
-
Man, this stinks.
Linda smiled weakly but
nodded.
Two hours later Linda
went home and left me to explain the whole boyfriend-situation to Sesshoumaru
alone. I sighed as I folded the blanket and carried our things into the house.
Sesshoumaru sat on the sofa, looking at the pictures in the lexicon. This was
the odd thing, he could speak English, but he could not read it. I would have to
teach him to read both English and Swedish and perhaps even get him to talk
Swedish as well. I stood there in the hallway with the things in my hand when I
heard him call my name.
-
Maria-sama, something wrong?
-
Uhhm, no… I was just thinking about teaching you how to read
English and Swedish.
-
That will not be necessary, this Sesshoumaru are learning it
already.
-
Huh?
“Me and my intelligent answers.”
-
Something must have happened when I was transported here.
Something that makes it easier for me to live here. Magic perhaps, this
Sesshoumaru is not sure. But as I read these books, I’m beginning to understand
the words.
-
Oh… that’s good, I said with eyes widened. Magic… there was
no such things as magic, not real magic as you can read about in the fairytales.
Sesshoumaru put away the
book and helped me put away the blanket and the cups. He saw that I was still
confused or worried about something.
I sighed as I sat down on
the sofa. I closed my eyes and tried to find the words to explain to him without
making him angry, that it would be easier for me and him, to tell people that he
was my intended. But once again he proceeded me.
-
This Sesshoumaru heard you talk. It will not be a problem to
be this boyfriend of yours, he said and looked at me and I was sure I could see
a small content smile tug at his lips.
-
Oh, that’s good. But if you don’t want too, I will
understand.
Now he really did smile
and I felt my heart flutter. Man, he was dangerous when he was smiling. But a
part of me was cheering. If I showed up with him at my side, all those who had
been looking down at me through the years would have a fit. That would be
rewarding in it self. I rose to my feet and mumbled something about a shower and
a nap.
“This Sesshoumaru is
not sure that he would pretend to be your so called boyfriend. This Sesshoumaru
would like very much to be your mate.”
If I was a mind reader I
would probably have flipped my lid.
