When
Kagome opened her eyes, a smile crept quietly upon her worn out face. Kami,
Inuyasha must you be so protective of me even here? She tried her damndest not to laugh and awake
the sleeping hanyou, but it was in vain.
He stirred when she wiggled her body closer to him; his embrace on her
tightened.
“Hey…
aren’t you supposed to be resting up Kagome?”
For a moment, she couldn’t quite make out his initial expression… then
he reached down and kissed her wrinkling forehead softly. “Morning, wench.” Kagome frowned and backed away from him
slightly.
“What’s
with the new pet name, Inuyasha? I kind
of don’t like it… it makes me feel… I just… don’t like it is all.” Her body slumped and he could smell the tears
coming. Thinking fast he changed his
persona.
“I… Kagome,
I didn’t mean it as anything bad… I’ll try not to say it anymore… it’s just
kind of like a term of endearment…its habit… I'm sorry koushi.” Kagome moved close to him once more at his
explanation, but gazed up into his eyes with bewilderment.
“Habit…? What do you mean habit? It really bothers me that you call me ‘wench’
or ‘bitch’ sometimes…it’s kind of insulting.”
“Well, I
guess it’s kind of just like a natural name for a youkai to call his mate… or
intended… but I guess I could see how it could come off as insulting.” He looked away seemingly ashamed of his own
words. Oh Kami, how many times have I called her those names… Kagome was
stiff, he could sense her frustration.
It was as if something had dawned on her.
“Well,
wait… then how come you called me those names so much before any of this happened?
Does that mean tha—” Her thoughts were cut off by a knowingly sharp
stare from the amber gold orbs of the hanyou beside her. Kagome’s gaze softened as his lips came down
to meet hers; tears pooled in her eyes.
“Damn wen-
I mean, Kagome, you cry too much.” Inuyasha declared wrapping his arms around
her to pull her in closer to him. She
seemed to fit perfectly to him. “I guess
my heart always knew something my fucking brain didn’t want to admit.” It was almost a whisper, said more out of his
own thoughts than for her sake.
Nonetheless this caused her to tighten her grasp on him and cry in
contentment upon his chest. After a few
more minutes, she finally pulled herself away from his chest and sat up, beside
his stretched out body, on the bed.
Sniffling, and whipping her nose she focused her eyes and gazed lovingly
upon him.
“Even then,
Inuyasha…?” Inuyasha was shocked, and
slightly confused by her sudden question; he sat up beside her and grimaced.
“What are
you talking about, woman?” Kagome, taking some initiative, brought her hands to
sweep the bangs out of his eyes and placed a light kiss on his cheek.
“You heard
me Inuyasha. I asked you… even
then? You’ve been calling me wench and
bitch and woman… since we met… I always thought that it was just because you
were rude and arrogant. You mean to tell
me, that, even then you wanted to be with me?
Or was it just my soul…Kikyo’s soul?”
He could sense the tears coming to surface again as he held her
shoulders firmly and forced her stare directly into his.
“Kagome, my
soul may have chosen Kikyo’s soul right from the get go, but, my heart… my mind
and my…” His vision darted from hers
momentarily a bit embarrassed before he softly finished, bringing one of his
hands to cradle her cheek in his hand “body,
chose you. I love you, want and need you
Kagome. Not Kikyo. So I guess that means yes. Even then...”
She smiled and then as if on cue, with the worst timing, Kagome’s stomach growled considerably loud causing
them both to chuckle slightly. Inuyasha
took his hand from her face and brought it down to rub at her stomach; softly
he whispered in her ear. “Looks like my Kagome could use a little bit of
breakfast...” Kagome smiled and closed
her eyes, reveling in his closeness for a moment before scooting off of the bed
and walking to the door.
“You think
you can beat me to the kitchen Inuyasha?
With that… Super demon speed
of yours…?” She had a playful tone in
her voice and her eyes glimmered mischievously.
Inuyasha smirked; racing up behind her, grabbing her small waist in the
process and started to tickle her. She
fought him away, giggling, and he clutched her firmly to him; grazing her neck
with his fangs. “Hey! You keep that up
and you are definitely not going to beat me, Inuyasha.” She was breathing hard at the excursion of
trying to push him away. Inuyasha
stopped tickling her and gripped her waist; pulling her body into his and
ripping into her soul with his amber stare.
“You
promise?” Was his only response;
seductive and softly as he leaned to kiss her with fervor. As his hands ran across her abdomen she
froze; squirming uncomfortably away.
“Inuyasha…
don’t.” He looked up to see the fear
that filled her eyes and his hands stopped; placing his hands to her cheeks.
“What’s
wrong? Are you alright Kagome?” Inuyasha’s gaze lovingly scanned Kagome’s
saddened eyes. Her face suddenly looked
paler than normal and her lashes began to flutter wildly; letting out a broken
stagger of his name she started to slide to the ground… held by his arms he
guided her gently so that she would not fall.
“Kagome…? Kagome… say something
Kagome are you okay?” He was getting
scared and he started to panic as she blacked out. “Mrs. Higurashi!” He was screaming so loud it was almost a
howl. Startled, Kagome’s mother came
rushing into the room; nearly tripping over the couple that lay on the ground
in front of the doorway.
“Inuyasha..!
What happened?” She knelt down beside
them both and looked at her daughter in fear.
“I… I don’t
know she just collapsed… what do I do?”
She could hear the tremble as he rocked Kagome gently in his arms; his
face showed a worried and frightened gape.
Thinking quick, Mrs. Higurashi leapt to her feet and ran back down the
hall; grabbing the telephone and calling the ambulance. When she returned to the distraught hanyou
she sat beside him.
“Don’t
worry Inuyasha… there is help on the way.”
“Thanks
mom.” Was his whispered response. She froze, wondering if he realized that he
had just called her mother. A small
smile adorned her soul as she awaited the medical technicians to arrive.
~*~
Passing all the buildings, she could
sense them as they faded into nothing. Why
are they disappearing? The busy streets turned to grassy plains of a
certain perfection Kagome couldn’t place; then it hit her, the feudal era. As she kept up her gait, it became dark,
cloudy and cold; the shiver in her bones seemed to take over as she fell to her
knees. Looking up, Kagome noticed she
was sitting in front of a gravestone. It
was surprisingly kept up, the most beautiful area amongst the darkness
surrounding… engulfing. Reaching her
hand to the stone, she moved the flowers that were blocking the words engraved
within the rock. In the kanji it read:
Here lies the greatest hanyou that ever lived and his powerful
wife.
Their bravery and honor could not be matched by any other.
May your spirits be one with your friends forever and live on through
the eyes of your beautiful children.
Inuyasha and Higurashi Kagome,
you shall be honored by this memorial for all eternity.
Rest in peace and may your love continue to transcend all time.
Gasping, Kagome felt the tears begin
to stain her face. Suddenly, there was a
hand on her shoulder and she turned to see a man in red firecloth… hair as
silver as the snow clouds, eyes as golden as a ray of long needed sun. Kissing her softly, he whispered in her
ear. “I love you, please stay with
me.” Out of confusion, her tears stilled
as she felt the man who took every fear away fade into the newly forming light
that surrounded her soul.
~*~
Kagome
awoke to the ashen of the stucco looming above her. Now
what? She thought rather cynically.
It seemed every time she woke up, there was more bad news; focusing her
eyes to glance upon the bland room, it was only but a moment before she
realized where she was. A hospital…?
What the hell am I doing here…?
Trying her damndest to remember what had happened, she was becoming
dizzy. Inuyasha… we were about to… then everything just went black… what the
hell? Her thoughts were cut short by
the sound of someone sniffling. Snapping
her head to the source, Kagome saw none other than Inuyasha uncomfortably
sitting in the chair beside her; he looked as if he had been sleeping. Softly, she extended her hand to the
slumbering hanyou’s crossed arms; at her small ministration his eyes fluttered
open. After the haze cleared, Inuyasha
jumped from the chair and knelt beside the lackluster bed; holding her hand to
his heart.
“Inuyasha
what…” his lips pressed against her cheek; his shaky breath passing slowly by
her ear.
“I'm so
glad you are awake. The healer said that
you were in a comma?” Kagome giggled at
his miss-wording, but her expression changed to grimace when she noticed his
confused and horrified stance. “When I
asked him what that meant, he said… he said you might never wake up again… you
were lost in your dreams. Are… are you
alright now?” Wow, he’s really upset? I knew
things were different but… has this protectiveness always been there, am I only
just noticing this now? Clearing her
throat, as it seemed her voice was strained and grainy; Kagome brought her
attention to his gaze.
“I really
don’t know what happened… what did the doct— I mean ‘healer’ tell you?” Inuyasha let an irritated grunt escape the
confines of his throat and turned away.
“That
asshole? Wouldn’t tell me shit. He wouldn’t even let me in to see you at
first; said something about immediate family only? Fucking dick is what he is… he still hasn’t
said anything other than about the comma, and he said that to your
mother.” He paused for a moment before
looking back to her insipid face. “Do
you feel any pain?” Kagome closed her
eyes momentarily, letting out a sigh as if trying to decide if she did or
not. When she reopened her gaze, she saw
the worry and heartache glowing back from his golden orbs; she reached her hand
to touch his cheek.
“Oh
Inuyasha, I promise that I feel okay now.
I just want to hear what the doctor has to say about what
happened.”
“Doctor…? What’s that?”
Kagome smiled and stroked his soft tendrils of hair that framed his
handsome face.
“That’s
what we call the healers in my time, Inuyasha.”
She pulled her body to a sitting position and pulled on the hair that
she had been smoothing out; bringing his lips to hers. After the kiss was broken Kagome pressed her
forehead against Inuyasha’s; letting his silver hair cascade against her
cheeks, as if creating a veil from the rest of the world. She smiled and looked up into his eyes. “By the way Inuyasha, it’s not pronounced
‘comma’ its coma.” He smirked and let
out a sarcastic Hmph.
“Well
whatever it is, I'm glad you aren’t stuck in your dreams anymore. I don’t know what I would do without you
wench, just so you know, you are more than just a shard detector to me.” His eyes sparkled with emotion at his words;
Kagome felt as if she would cry. Catching
the subtle scent of un-fallen tears, Inuyasha ran his fingers through her
hair. “Kagome, don’t cry please? What did I say that was wrong?” Kagome giggled.
“Nothing
silly, I'm not going to cry. It’s just…
you never looked at me that way, I can’t remember when the last time it was
that I saw your face ridden with worry like that.” Inuyasha moved to sit on the side of the bed
and wrapped his arms around her petite waist carefully; pulling her close, he
whispered in her ear.
“Wench,
whenever you aren’t in my arms I'm worried about something happening to
you. I already told you, I don’t know
what I would do without you. Kagome, I
love you.” He felt her weakened grip
tighten on his back as she laid her head on his shoulder.
“I love you
too, Inuyasha promise you will always mean that.” She moved to face him again; Inuyasha’s hands
still rested upon Kagome’s hips gently.
“Always. Just try to stay out of so much danger when
you can help it, okay?” A frail, yet
loving laugh escaped her as he laid her head back down on the pillow. “Get some sleep Kagome. We don’t have to go back until you are
completely better.” Not knowing if any
of this was really happening, Kagome simply nodded as she let her sleep take
over. Inuyasha walked to the door and
into the hallway; he was surprised to see her grandfather quietly lounging upon
an inset bench against the wall beside her room. Upon his exit, her grandfather looked up.
“Oi,
Inuyasha I was hoping I could have a word with you… would you mind sitting with
me for a while?” Nodding, Inuyasha took
a seat beside the feeble old man.
“What is it
you need to talk to me about, old man?”
Her grandfather seemed nervous as he rung his hands together; playing
with the ring upon his finger.
“I wanted
to speak with you about my granddaughter.
Inuyasha, I know you care but I only wonder… does this relationship you
have with Kagome go beyond friendship...or is it just the imaginings of an old
man’s ancient mind?” Inuyasha’s blush
pretty much told him all he needed to know as the young hanyou looked down a
bit shamefully into his lap.
“I'm sorry…
Mr. Higurashi, I can’t leave her. I know
you don’t want a tainted demon around all the time but, I … I…” Inuyasha stumbled over his words trying to
find the right thing to say, without sounding too soft.
“You love
her don’t you, Inuyasha.” Gathering his
courage, Inuyasha slowly brought his stare to the old man’s face.
“Yes. I do.”
Looking down again, he listened to her grandfather sigh heavily.
“Inuyasha,
do not be ashamed to love her. You
really needn’t worry about what I think, and for the record… though you do have
the blood of a demon running in your veins, I believe that you are a very
honorable man; also, a formidable opponent for anyone who would dare to bring
harm upon our lovely Kagome. You both
seem to accept each other as you are and I just wanted to be sure on what your
intentions are with my granddaughter.
Can you tell me that son?”
Inuyasha thought for a moment before standing to face the old man beside
him.
“Both my
intentions and love for that woman in there are pure. I only hope that you will be so accepting as
to let me spend the rest of my existence protecting and caring for her and her
children. I… I …I want to be the father
to those said children. I … I want to
have her presence beside me always, I feel as if my life means nothing without
her. You ask my intentions, well old
man… lately I've been feeling more than a bit generous with divulging my
feelings. So there you have it, now I
can only hope that you will be willing to let this tainted demon become part of
your family… part of Kagome’s heart forever… see because without her, I would
cease existence. It would just hurt too
much to lose her.” Inuyasha began to
walk away, towards the cafeteria, when he felt her grandfather touch his arm
gently. Turning his attention back to
the old man seated on the bench, he noticed his straight forward expression.
“Inuyasha,
you are always welcome into this family.
You will always be in her heart, just promise that you will treat her
with the respect and love she deserves…”
His eyes met with Inuyasha’s shocked gape.
“I…I… you
have my word.” Letting his arm fall from
his grasp, Mr. Higurashi felt a small smile play across his lips.
“Then you
have my blessings, son.” Inuyasha was
stunned. Her grandfather really just accepted me? Suddenly, his appetite seemed to
diminish… so he opted to take is former spot back; beside Kagome’s bed. When Kagome’s mother entered the room she was
surprised to see that he was still beside her asleep; she noticed the chair had
been moved closer to the bed, and he was gripping her hand in his… a slight
grin plastered upon his sleeping face.
Not wanting to disturb the hanyou or her daughter, Mrs. Higurashi walked
out of the room and sat beside her father.
“He went
back in there huh.”
“What do
you mean, father? Did Inuyasha come
out?” She tried to read her father’s
expression, but it was blank.
“We
talked. Do not fret my dear. It was all in good taste, I think I have
changed my mind about that young hanyou.”
He paused and glanced over at his daughter. “He loves her quite a bit.” Mrs. Higurashi smiled.
“I've known
that for a while, father. I'm glad you
finally realized it.”
“He told
me.” Mrs. Higurashi looked at her father
in awe, hugging him she let out a sigh.
“Everything
is changing so much now, Iie?”
“Hai, I
think admitting their feelings to each other was a big step...”
“I hope for
the best… things have just been so strange.
They have been through so much.”
Knowing her father had no idea about just ‘how close’ her daughter and
the hanyou from the past had been, she kept that part of information to
herself. He just accepted Inuyasha, why ruin things now. In time perhaps… but it’s not something that
he needs to know.
Things were
definitely changing.

Miroku
awoke to the harsh days light streaming unforgiving, through the branches of
the tree above them. Quietly, he noted
that Sango was still sleeping peacefully in his arms; he smiled. She’s
beautiful when she slumbers… he thought.
Pulling her a bit more into his embrace, he closed his eyes and let out
a sigh; releasing all the tension from his body as she snuggled closer. After a few moments, Sango stirred
awake.
“Miroku…? Are you awake?” Her voice seemed unsure, hushed. Calmly, his hand ran through the silky
strands of her flowing hair.
“Hai,
Koibito, I'm up. How was your
sleep?” Sango blushed. Even after being intimate with him, she still
seemed to rouge at the thought of being in his arms.
“Quite
nicely actually… how about you, Miroku?”
She shyly gazed into his violet eyes and bit her lip; there was so much
she was longing to do with him… to him.
Miroku bent his head slightly to place a soft kiss upon her cheek.
“I always
sleep better when you are in my arms, my dearest.” Upon seeing the brilliant smile that
accompanied his words, Miroku bravely pressed his lips against hers. He was a little shocked however, when Sango
pushed him back.
“Miroku, we
have to leave soon… don’t we.” There was
a sort of anticipation to her voice…Miroku cocked his brow.
“Am I
mistaken to assume… or does this fact please you, more than I thought it
would…?” Sango stood and pulled him up;
smiling.
“Does that
surprise you?”
“Does what
surprise me, my love?” he gripped her waist and pulled her close… speaking so
that the breath from his lips, danced across her cheek.
“Does it
really come as a surprise that I would be looking quite forward to being alone
with… a certain… holy man, for an extended amount of days…?” She took in a sharp breath upon feeling his
hands caressing her hips; his lips softly feathering the skin of her neck.
“I could
only dream of such endeavors, my love… but it pleases me to know of your… anticipation.” Nipping at the skin of her collar bone, she
giggled and began to squirm.
“Miroku…
you know that if you keep this up… I'm going to lose my resistance… then, this
journey will take even longer.” Miroku’s
smile was seductive, and there was a hint of mischief twinkling in his
eyes.
“I could
only hope as much…”

Again
Kagome awoke to the bland hospital room; immediately searching out Inuyasha
with wandering eyes. It took her a
moment to realize… he was holding her hand, uncomfortably positioned in the
chair with his head face down on her bed.
Smiling, she gently nudged his hand until he awoke.
“Koi…
you’re awake again.” His voice was
cracked and grainy.
“Inuyasha,
you can’t be comfortable sitting like that… wouldn’t you rather go home with my
mother and rest in my bed?” Rubbing his
eyes, Inuyasha sat up straighter and fixed his gaze intently upon hers.
“Nah, it’s
nice and all but… I need to protect you.”
She smiled and attempted to sit up in the unpleasant bed.
“You
realize I am safe here… don’t you?”
Inuyasha sighed and grasped her hand with both of his.
“Well, then
… I just don’t want to leave. I don’t
think I would be able to sleep without you there anyway. Besides… if something did happen… I would
want to be here, not there.” Kagome
reached her hand to graze the side of his face before letting it fall to rest
upon the both of his hands holding her other.
“Thank you,
Inuyasha.” Just as he placed an adoring
kiss upon her cheek, the door to her room opened. There was a man now standing at the foot of
her bed, carefully reading the chart that had been hanging from the end.
“Ms.
Higurashi-san… I am Doctor Mitorikus; Am I to assume that this young man here
is… Inuyasha?” Kagome nodded and
squeezed his hands at the irritated growl that had been forming in Inuyasha’s
throat. It was a warning, and Inuyasha
knew that it was one that he must heed. The
doctor walked back a bit, closing the metal chart, and pushed a chair with
wheels to the foot of the bed; sitting upon it.
“So, am I
going to find out what happened back there… why I blacked out and ended up
here?” Kagome’s tone was curious yet
steady.
“Ms.
Higurashi… Upon hearing about your previous and most recent incident from your
mother… we ran some tests to see if that could have possibly been your reasons
for slipping into the coma. The good
news is… that those tests came back to be quite conclusive. It was not the reason you ended up here. True there was some damage, but it is not
irrefutable harm… and you both will
be pleased to know that, if in the future you decide to… you will still be able
to reproduce.” Inuyasha wasn’t so sure
about all he had said but, he could feel the hope and relief expelled from
Kagome’s aura washing over him. He
decided that this was good news.
Suddenly, Kagome started to fidget and became a bit more nervous.
“Well,
wait... what’s the bad news, doctor?”
She avoided Inuyasha’s questioning eyes and focused on Doctor Mitorikus;
who cleared his throat and reopened the metal chart.
“It’s not
as much bad news, as it is… stranger news.
We did a blood test on you, and the results came up to be rather…
questionable to say the least.” Inuyasha
could feel his ears struggling to move beneath the cap restraining them; he had
a feeling pertaining to what this was about.
My blood is different… he
thought. “But, in the end that also just
turned out to be a misreading… the only explanation we could suffice was, the
change from the miscarriage. Your mother
seemed to think that it was nothing to worry about, in fact… she didn’t seem too
surprised.”
“So, why
did I slip into a coma, doctor.” The
doctor rose from the chair, closed his chart and replaced on the bed’s foot; he
smiled.
“High
levels of stress, and anxiety. My dear
child, you need to rest a bit. The
stress levels and emotional distress from losing your child, from massive blood
loss and from over exerting yourself… was taking its toll. My recommendation is this; you will be
released today if you can promise me that you will rest, and stay off your feet
for at least a week… and I hope that this young man… Inuyasha will make sure
that you do.” Inuyasha understood what
that meant and nodded vigorously, feeling a sense of pride and need to protect
her; this time from herself.
“Hai, she
won’t be outta my sight ‘til she’s better… on that you have my word.” The doctor smiled at the couple and took out
his paper pad and a pen.
“Good. Now, Higurashi-san, I am writing you a
prescription for some pain medication that should help with any lingering pain
from your wound as well as an anti-anxiety pill to take only if you feel your
stress levels becoming too much… I’ll send a nurse in here with a wheelchair
and your discharge papers… I'm sorry for your recent loss, but I wish the two
of you all the luck in the world for the future.” Just as he was leaving he stopped at the
door. “Oh, and Kagome? I would like to see you back here in a week’s
time.” He winked, and walked out of the
room. Inuyasha growled slightly after
the doctor winked at her, but her aura…calmed him down almost immediately; she
was happy.
“Inuyasha…
did you hear that?” She moved to dangle
her feet off the side of the bed, Inuyasha moved to hold her waist.
“What
part…?”
“He said that
the damage Haisurah caused, wasn’t as bad as we feared.” She smiled and wrapped her arms around his
neck.
“So… so,
when we want to…”
“… when the
time is right for us… we can still have that family.” She finished for him. Inuyasha felt his heart jump, his stomach
lurch in excitement… and a joyous kind of fear that he had only felt once
before…the night in the cave. Suddenly,
he could sense her arousal. It was
driving him mad, he knew though, that he could not touch her… not here…
no. They would have to wait.
“Gods
wench… I am so in love with you.” He
coddled her neck with kisses and she laughed in surprise. Their compromising position was too much for
him to handle, but he had to get in control of himself and he was more than
happy when the nurse walked in and interrupted.
“Oh… I'm
sorry, was I interrupting something?”
The nurse was short, young and laughing… almost embarrassed for the
couple. Kagome moved her hands to his
waist and smiled at the young woman, who pushed the wheel chair beside the
hanyou.
“No, we
were just celebrating some happy news miss… that’s all.” She was smiling… Inuyasha smirked, that’s all
he ever wanted to do was see her beaming… he could live in her radiant smile
forever, which he knew.
Helping her from the bed, Inuyasha picked
Kagome up and placed her in the chair.
He much rather have just carried her, but was informed that it was
hospital regulations that prevented that until they had left the building. After they finished all her paperwork, and reached
the outside, Inuyasha lifted her into his arms… and headed behind Kagome’s
mother to the ‘car’. Peacefully,
Inuyasha lounged in the backseat of the contraption embracing Kagome in his
arms. Momentarily, she had fallen asleep
with that brilliant smile plastered on her face; Inuyasha could only watch her
in her slumber… tenderly running his hands through her raven hair.
When they
reached the shrine, Inuyasha collected her in his arms again and leapt to her
window. Placing her on the bed, he sat
in the chair at her desk and continued to just watch her. Feeling his eyes, but not his touch, Kagome
awoke and sat up.
“Inuyasha,
will you please sleep over here… in the bed with me? I… I'm cold.”
He just looked at her before standing and grabbing an extra
blanket.
“Keh, here…
this should keep you warm.” Just as he
was turning to retreat back to the chair, he felt her sadness and turned back
to look at her. “What’s wrong Kagome?” She smiled sadly.
“Well, I …
I don’t need another blanket Inuyasha… The truth is, I just want to be in your
arms… is… is that okay?” Inuyasha smirked
and moved towards the bed, sitting and holding her waist from the back.
“Of course
it is wench… I didn’t think you would want to.”
She closed her eyes as he pulled her back and covered them with the
blanket.
“I always
want it to be like this… Inuyasha.” She
yawned and snuggled in closer; quietly drifting off she spoke in almost a
whisper. “I'm only happy when I'm in
your arms… like this.”
He kissed her shoulder and tightened his embrace.

Sango
followed Miroku silently from the hut.
She knew he was still nervous, but she knew that in time things would
work out. They had to, or else
everything was going to be far too painful to move on. Letting out a sigh, Miroku stopped at the
clearing of the forest.
“My dearest
Sango, are you positive that you still wish to journey this distance?” She could see the fear of rejection that
radiated from his eyes, and smiled.
“I told
you, I would love nothing more right now, I need you near as much as I am
certain you need me to accompany you to see Master Moushin.” There was a pause in her voice as she put her
hand gently upon his shoulder. “I'm here
for you Miroku.” He cracked a smile at
her words and pulled her into his embrace.
“I'm so
sorry for all the hurt I've caused your beautiful heart, my dearest dearest Sango.” Her kiss upon the covered and cursed hand was
her return, as she brought herself back into his embrace.
“I know you
are.” She whispered softly in his ear as
her eyes closed; her body relaxed into his.
“I know.”
~*~
Inuyasha
awoke, warm and comfortable. Kagome was
sprawled out beside him with her arm flung carelessly across his abdomen. His inward smile came to surface, as he
watched the beauty beside him slumber.
For the first time in a while, Kagome looked almost peaceful…
happy. With much admonition, Inuyasha
lifted her wrist from his stomach and attempted to move from the bed. Attempted.
“Ih…
Inuyasha?” She started groggily. Slowly, Kagome started rubbing her eyes to
void them of sleep and glanced at the hanyou with question.
“Koi… just
rest, I don’t want a repeat of that …
hospital incident.” She laughed a bit at this reaction, and
Inuyasha’s serious expression. Closing
her eyes, she tried to pretend as if she had fallen back asleep… and tried to
suppress her giggles; both tasks proved in vain.
“Oi, what
the fuck are you doing? I know you ain’t
asleep wench.” She opened one eye to see
him gazing upon her… obviously more than irritated but, she could sense that he
knew she was messing with him; he wasn’t angry.
“Hey,
yourself!! You said to rest… which I assumed you meant as… sleeping. I'm not tired, but I guess I can pretend to
be, if that’s what my alpha wishes.” He
was shocked to hear her using such sarcasm, but more surprised at her wordings…
alpha? She let out a sigh and closed her eyes again;
bringing her arms to cross her chest as he so often did within the sleeves of
his haori.
“Alpha? Kagome, stop fucking around… I'm
serious. I just keep getting you into
trouble, and if keeping you out of it means keeping you in bed… then so be it.” Right away, he smelled her spike.
“In bed
ehy? Well, what is the all mighty alpha
going to do with little ol’ trouble
maker me?” Her sarcasm was slightly
ignored as her scent continued to spike with her arousal. Suddenly, he felt two small hands touching
his stomach… he closed his eyes momentarily, as if trying to block his senses;
all he could feel was her.
“That’s not what I meant, wench. You know damn well that you should be
recovering.” She lunged at him. He gulped, knowing he was in fact losing his
resolves each passing minute.
“Let’s get
one thing straight here, Inuyasha… I'm stronger than you think. It’s been a month for hells sake. I think I know my own body enough to know
when something is wrong, and when everything is alright, I know we lost
something important, but… I heard the doctor.
I … you shouldn’t have to worry so much about me, I'm just a pathetic
human wench.” She spat his word in disgust and paused, her
arousal and anger turning into that of shame and sadness; she backed away from
the shocked hanyou and curled her body to the wall, bringing her knees to her
chest… she sobbed. It was the scent of
her tears that got his attention, above anything else, he hated the scent of
her tears.
“I'm sorry,
Kagome. That’s not what I meant… look, I
ain’t stupid… and you are anything
but pathetic and weak…” Her eyes lifted
at his words and she found herself loosening her tense body from its curled
position. Looking upon the man before
her in wonder, as he gently reached for her hand and whispered… “Come
here.” She more than willingly complied
to his heed; moving slowly to his outstretching arms… into his warm and loving
embrace.
“Why are we
so stupid?” she could have sworn him
say… to which came her reply…
“Because we
are in love.” He was almost surprised
that she had been able to hear him before realizing, just how close to her ear
his lips really were; he took advantage.
She shuddered when she felt his warm breath blowing gently across her
ear, his tongue tracing its outline.
“Not here… not now… we can’t.”
Immediately it seemed, her words brought him from a trance.
“Not
yet…” He finished for her. “Kuso… I fucking know...” Kagome laughed at his turmoil, undoubtedly
feeling the same.
“I know
Koibito… me too… but soon enough this will all be done, and maybe… maybe then
we can really be together.” Again,
Inuyasha took it upon himself to finish what she neglected to say; lifting her
hand he kissed her palm, gazing into her eyes.
“Without
putting each other into danger, Kagome… I really need you.” He muttered the words, but his meaning did
not go lost on her, his eyes said it all.
I really love you.
Trying to
change the way of conversation, Kagome cleared her throat almost comically and
shifted against Inuyasha’s form. As if
almost on cue, her stomach growled; she tried to get up from the bed, in vain.
“Hey! Inuyasha, I'm hungry here… I was kind of hoping that my Alpha would at least let me get out of
bed to eat, for Kami’s sake.” She smiled playfully, but his expression once
more turned to grimace as he gripped her shoulders and brought his lips to her
ear again.
“Stop with
the Alpha, shit. You are just as much in charge, of all this as I am.
And don’t you ever play that
weak card, Kagome; we both know you
aren’t.” He could feel her shock turn
from its permeating fear laced drench, into something else… understanding. He shifted his gruffness into a tender
whisper. “Allow me, to feed this wench
as she relaxes within her
divan.” As he rose from the bed, she
sported a look that told of confusion and humor.
“Divan?” She couldn’t stop the giggle from
escaping. “Where on earth did you learn that
term, Inuyasha?” He knew that she was
joking with him, so in spirits of playing along, he rested his finger upon her
lips playfully and made a slight shushing noise.
“Never
tell.” Just as he made his way to the
door, he turned. “… and Kagome?” Her eyes looked up from her lap in
delight.
“Huh.”
“Stay put
would ya?” At her slight blush and nod,
he left her alone to muse over her thoughts.
Less than patiently, waiting for the unknown.
