ThoughtsLast Chapter:
Unfortunately, in his sloshed state, it took them entering the shrine filled with the happy inu-tashi, the group’s sudden silence.. and seeing not one.. but TWO white haired hanyou for it to dawn on him the similarities between Miroku’s warrior friend who helped end his curse, and the hanyou female who’d known Miroku’s family since the time the curse began. Inuyasha was on his feet instantly. “Who the hell are---!” but he was cut short, though.By the sudden movement of his Buddist companion.===============================================
Inubiki was shocked for a moment, her attention drawn from the 'mirror' to the monk wrapping his armed around her and swinging her in a wide circle. "Inubiki-Chan!" exclaimed the monk. It took her a minute to realize who he was once he set her back on her feet. Her ears twitched under the scarf hiding them and she regarded the twenty-two year old human through curious narrowed eyes.
Then it damned on her. "Miroku-Kun!" She laughed, wrapping her arms around his neck and hugging him tightly - oblivious to a rather confused and peeved demon exterminator. “When did you get taller then me? Or so handsome, for that matter?” She teased affectionately to the child-turned-man.Kagome and Shippo all regarded the pair with surprise, they’d never seen Miroku act quite like THIS before. Inuyasha looked confused and pissed off at the same time, and Sango just glared daggers at the pair.Miroku stepped back and actually blushed, rubbing the back of his head sheepishly. “It’s been seventeen years, ‘Biki.” He said sheepishly, then took her hand and guided her further into the room. “’Biki, please meet my friends.” He said, motioning to Kagome first. “This is Kagome-sama, without her I do believe we would have been unable to defeat Naraku – so don’t let Inuyasha fool you,” He said, currently oblivious to the similarity in names {let alone appearances} of his two friends, as he motioned to the male hanyou. The hanyou pair regarded each other closely for a moment, before Miroku pulled Inubiki’s attention to the fox kit. “This is Shippou. Again, don’t let Inuyasha fool you, Shippo was very helpful in the final battle.” Then, he stepped from Inubiki’s side and pulled Sango close. “And this… This is Sango.” He’d seen the pissed off look in her eyes, and purposely groped her ass to redirect her anger away from the hanyou female. The resounding slap made those that were present wince in pain, even though they didn’t feel it.Inubiki grimiced and looked at her friend oddly. “I see your grandfather’s wandering hand has passed into another generation…” she said with a sigh. “…I recall a promise that you wouldn’t turn out like them…?” She shook her head, before she smiled softly. “I am glad you are still alive, I am sorry I was gone so long. I know I promised to come back before...”“Eh..heh.” Rubbing his cheek, where a rather red hand-shaped mark was, he looked at the female in concern. “Father said you would visit once every couple of years... what happened?”“Ookami.” She said, looking down and away, her eyes hardening even while Inuyasha and Shippo sensed an aura of sadness around the girl. “….I went further north then I’d intended and got myself stuck north of the Northern Tribe. I had to leave behind my naginata and my Fur.”Sango remained quiet while she listened; sitting back down on the floor and stroking Kirara’s fur when she jumped into her lap, the small nekomatta purring at the attention. Kagome looked to Sango frowning, before looking back to Miroku and Inubiki as they sat down. “How were you trapped? The wolf packs aren’t really attacking humans anymore.” She asked confused, then blinked and said “Sit Boy!” before Inuyasha could start something. She’d seen the look on his face.Inubiki yelped and jumped, landing in Miroku’s lap, her eyes wide as she looked at the face-planted hanyou, then at Kagome.. then at Miroku and eeped. “Gomen!” She said with a weak laugh and slipped out of his lap, kneeling by Inuyasha’s head and gently poked at the back of his skull. “…..Why do you look like me?” She questioned curiously, purposely avoiding the miko’s question. She was being polite – She had grown to dislike the Shinto priests and miko.Lifting his head, Inuyasha glared at the female while he still couldn’t get up. “Keh! That’s what I want to know, bitch!” He snarled. Before Kagome or the others could respond, and much to Miroku, Shippo, and Mushin’s amusement, Inubiki and struck the back of Inuyasha’s head in much the same fashion that he tended to do to Shippo. She said nothing, merely set her hands back in her lap and met his glare with her own. “Don’t insult someone when you’re an easy target, runt.” She said coldly, frowning, before turning back to the others.Shippo grinned brightly. “So you’re a friend of Miroku’s?” He asked from Kagome’s lap, before bounding over to perch atop Miroku’s shoulder. “Has he asked you to bare his children?” He further inquired, oblivious to Sango’s glare.Kagome blinked. “Now, Shippou…”Inubiki laughed as Miroku blushed. “No. His grandfather did once though, lecher though he was.” She smiled kindly, but arched a brow at Inuyasha while he sat up, grumbling. He was plotting, she was sure of it. “Miroku-kun was only five last time I saw him.” She could feel the distrust rolling off of the exterminator.“…But I think I may have overstayed my welcome, little one.” She murmured and unfolded her form from the floor. “It was good to see you again, Miroku-kun.” She said, then slipped out before anyone could stop her. Groups of humans made her uncomfortable, and she had enough enemies. Inuyasha watched the female leave before rounding on Miroku. “Who the hell was she?!” He demanded, sending Shippou scurrying away from Miroku in fear of the hanyou. Miroku held his hands up, trying to placate his friend. “I told you. Her name is Inubiki – She’s been a friend of my family since just after my grandfather was cursed. She’s harmless.” he rubbed the back of his head, sighing. “Heck, if what Father said was true… she shouldn’t be alive.” He added, glancing over his shoulder towards the door.“Well. It seems I’ve arrived at just the right time.” Came a old wizened voice just before Inuyasha slapped his neck. “Greetings… my lord..” Myoga croaked as he floated to the floor before shaking himself.“What do you mean old man?” Inuyasha demanded, retaking his seat.Kagome looked curious and asked “Do you know her, Myoga-jiji?” Sango was refusing to talk to Miroku, but that wouldn’t stop her curiousity. “Arrived just after, huh? Are you sure she’s not an Incarnation?” she said, putting to voice what Inuyasha was obviously thinking.“I don’t know her, persay. But I’ve heard rumors…” Myoga responded, rubbing his chin as he sat on Kirara’s forehead. “And brings back the memory of a comment of Lady Izayo’s.”That had everyone’s attention. “What’s mom got to do with this?!” Inuyasha demanded, getting down on all fours and glaring at Myoga, and spooking Kirara who hissed and swatted his nose. Sango and Kagome tried to stifle their laughter when Inuyasha jerked back and rubbed his offended nose.Myoga shook his head. “I’m not sure… But when I first found you and your mother, Inuyasha, she asked me if I’d seen another like you. She wouldn’t elaborate.” He crossed all his arms over his chest in thought. “Sesshomaru might know more. He was present the night you were born.”~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Sesshoamaru watched as his ward moved through the field filled with flowers, making another ring of them that he was certain she was going to get either him or Jaken to wear. While no one would ever know about it, he would only stand such indignation for the girl. She was, quite simply, something that made his days less boring. She made him content, sometimes happy. That was why he went after Naraku – the vile half demon had threatened what was His.
Mentally frowning, while his face remained impassive, Sesshomaru turned his head as he caught what he thought was Inuyasha’s scent. It took him only a moment to realize it wasn’t his half-brother, but rather the female hanyou he’d seen from a distance several times. It wasn’t difficult to deduce that she was the bundle that he’d seen curried away by the servant woman the night of his father’s death.
She was no threat, and as a female that no one but he knew of, he was content to let her live. Her search for their father amused him when he caught wind of it. How long will she search before she gives up or finds out father is dead? How long before her searching led her to This Sesshomaru? The daiyoukai silently wondered, not moving from his seated position, even as the female of his thoughts broke through the trees into the field – apparently oblivious to his presence.
He couldn’t help the smirk that formed when she tripped over Jaken when he was bending over.
Jaken squawked in indignation “How dare you! Watch where you’re going!” he shouted “Blasted Half-Breed!” When he looked back up at her he realized it wasn’t Inuyasha he was yelling at and his jaw fell open in shock.
The hanyou female yelped as she went down, and scurried a foot or two away from the kappa before she realized that Jaken wasn’t nessisarily the strongest youkai to be found. “…Sumimasen. I did not see you.” She admitted, blushing as she picked herself up off the ground, only to end up looking down at a curious little human girl.
Rin, he knew, was young but not stupid. “Are you related to Sesshomaru-sama?” she asked brightly, confusing the hanyou.
“Sessh….omaru..sama?” she echoed in confusion, then eeped as the name rang a bell. “Oh. No… I don’t believe so..” she said, shaking her head ferverently. “And I’ll just be on my way.” She’d heard the rumors of the cold Daiyoukai and his human ward. She didn’t want to be anywhere nearby when HE arrived.
Sesshomaru smirked smugly at the hanyou’s reaction. At least she shows us the respect deserved, his beast rumbled sleepily in his mind and he had to agree. Nothing like her idiot twin. Unfolding his body from the ground, Sesshomaru stealthily walked up behind the hanyou, stopping just before she backed up into him.
“Sesshomaru-sama!” Rin greeted cheerfully. “Is this pretty lady family?” she asked.
Sesshomaru looked down at and met the fearful hanyou’s golden gaze and smirked – something that made Jaken quake in his books and move behind Rin. “Rin. Be silent.”
“Hai!”
While the female was frozen in place, he slowly walked around her, studying her like a hawk. “Your name, hanyou.” he ordered, coming to a stop in front of her. Rin and Jaken behind him.
“…” She was frozen in fright, and it took his low growl to jerk her back into motion. Steeling herself, refusing to show her fear, she squared her shoulders but bowed respectfully. “Inubiki, Lord Se..Sesshomaru.” she was unable to stop the light fearful stutter that escaped her. “If it would please you, this lowly abomination will remove herself from your sight.”
Well, she knows her place. He silently mused. “…” He said nothing in response to her. He did not dismiss her, and she did not straighten, her form lightly shaking in fear. So much better behaved then that whelp, crossed his mind as he regarded her. “Another bit of evidence towards Father’s wayward sense of humor, I’m sure.” He said in an uncharacteristic amount of words, startling the pair behind him.
The girl’s head snapped up and looked up at Sesshomaru with a mix of fear and hope. “…….?” She said nothing, slowly straightening when she wasn’t punished for looking at him without permission.
Instead of answering her unspoken question, he turned and walked back to where he’d been sitting and settled back down, closing his eyes.
Was I just dismissed? Inubiki silently wondered, then looked down at the shocked kappa and human. “……”
The little girl was the first to recover, and since Sesshomaru didn’t kill the hanyou or tell her to leave, she figured she had a new playmate for a while and grabbed the girl’s hand and practically dragged her off into the field of flowers.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Over the next few hours, Inubiki played with the twelve year old and even shared some stories from her travels. The girl really was a sweetheart, and Inubiki couldn't fathom how she'd come to be traveling with the daiyoukai rumored to be the coldest heart in the land. Turning her head to look at said entity, she was surprised to find him watching her with a calculating look.
She wondered why he let her stay, but then looked back at Rin and smiled. Everyone had a weakness, she supposed. Hers was kids. Someday, she hoped to have many of them, but she doubted that would ever come to pass. After all, no one wanted a hanyou. As Rin rattled on about her own adventures, telling her about some boy named Kohaku, her mind wandered back to Miroku’s friends.
Inu..yasha…? She silently pondered his white hair, his puppy ears, and his golden eyes. It was like looking into a mirror. Then what Sesshomaru-sama said. He said it like he meant –my- father too.
“Inubiki-chan!” Rin called out, waving a hand in front of the hanyou’s face and bringing the girl out of her thoughts. “What’re you thinking?”
Inubiki smiled softly and ruffled the girl’s hair. “About a mirror.” She said, it wasn’t necessarily a lie, but Sesshomaru sensed there was more to it then that.
Has she met the whelp? He wondered, watching her intently, then decided to amuse himself. “Come.” He ordered as he stood up, and headed towards his half-brother’s scent. Let’s see just how much amusement this can stir up.
You just want to piss off the whelp by letting her travel with us.
Sesshomaru just smirked, hearing Jaken yelling at the two females to hurry up while Rin convinced Inubiki to come with.
Are we really that bored, to stir trouble between those two? Sesshomaru didn’t answer his beast as he walked.
Following the whelp's scent led the small group north, something that was disturbing his half-sister immensely. While he enjoyed torturing Inuyasha, he found that this mannered hanyou was different. She's female. Hanyou or not. Sesshomaru gave a mental growl, but his beast spoke truth. Females were expected to be weak - demonic, human, or half-breed. Few were an exception to this. "Quit fidgeting." He ordered over his shoulder.
His order was rewarded with a yelp and a stuttered "h..Hai, S..Sesshomaru-sama."
Rin, holding one of Inubiki's hands, looked up at the hanyou curiously. "Why are you scared? Is it the wolves?" She asked, getting the girl's attention. "Rin doesn't like the wolves either. They scare Rin."
Inubiki blinked. "..You too huh?" she asked softly. "...I'm not exactly welcome in Ozouroko and ookami territory." she responded weakly. At Rin's curious gaze, she sighed. "...It was a long time ago, Rin. I did something very stupid but did not realize it until it was too late. The ookami and Ozouroko will kill me on sight now."
"Oh." Rin said, then beamed up at her. "Sesshomaru-sama will protect us!" She exclaimed. "He keeps the wolves away from Rin all the time!"
Inubiki smiled softly to Rin, but was well aware that the daiyoukai only had her following him for some unspoken reason. She didn't like being used, but she had nothing better to do, and there was always the possibilty that Sesshomaru would tell her of her father.

Back with Inuyasha....
Before Myoga could elaborate, Kagome had suggested that they all turn in for the night. She laid a gentle hand on Miroku's arm. "I'm sure your friend is fine." She said with a soft smile, still amazed that there was someone who looked so much like her ...er.. Like Inuyasha.
The rest agreed, some unwillingly {Inuyasha}, and they all turned in for the night.
The next morning, Inuyasha crossed his arms over his chest and scowled as they listened to Myoga recount the events of the night Inu no Taisho had laid his life down for his human mate and hanyou son. No where in anything that he shared was there something that indicated who the female was. Inuyasha was an only child - ignoring Sesshomaru - wasn't he? "Get to the point, Myoga." He ground out, glaring at the flea where he continued to sit on Kirara's head.
"I was getting there, Lord Inuyasha," Said the old flea. "There were few, besides your mother, who escaped that night." He sighed as he focused his old mind on painful memories. "But I think there was a servant who ran out the back of the castle just after the fighting started. It's too late to find the servant, but as I said, Sesshomaru was there."
"....Speaking of the asshole..." Inuyasha gruffed as he got to his feet. "What do YOU want?" He demanded, putting his hand on the hilt of Tetsuseiga as he glared at his brother. "You..." came the startled female gasp from behind Sesshomaru as Inubiki walked into view.
"Kagome-Chan!" Rin exclaimed as she ran forward and hugged the miko. "Rin missed you and Shippo-chan!"
Inuyasha flicked his gaze from Sesshomaru to Inubiki then back. ".....!?"
"This Sesshomaru sees that the two of you have met." Sesshomaru said, his face impassive and eyes cold. "She looks much like Izayo." He mused, his impassive face actually taking on a contemplative expression.
Inuyasha growled. "You leave my mother out of this, you bastard! You've already tarnished her memory with that stupid No-Mother stunt!" he snarled.
"Who is.. Izayo, Lord Sesshomaru?" Inubiki questioned, looking from Inuyasha and his silent companions to Sesshomaru curiously, before looking back to Inuyasha, frowning at his reaction. His mother? Does that mean....
"Izayo is the name of the human who gave birth to you, Inubiki." Sesshomaru said, purposely softening his voice. You are an evil son of a bitch, you know that?
Rin and Jaken both turned to look at Sesshomaru in confusion. "Jaken-sama, what is Sesshomaru-sama doing?" she whispered softly, but not soft enough to be missed by the other humans since she was right next to them. She'd never seen Sesshomaru like THIS before.
Sango, Miroku and Kagome all exchanged glances before looking back to the scene before them.
"My... Mother?" Came the soft question, as Sesshomaru reached up and drew the scarf off her head as he gently stroked her hair. "....But.. I thought...."
"That she died giving birth to you?" The daiyoukai inquired. "No. She left you."
Pain flashed across the hanyou female's face. "Left......" 'You must atone for your mother's sins, Inubiki. ... She abandoned you, always remember that...' "She.....Abandoned...me.." She closed her eyes tightly, taking a ragged breath, before her eyes snapped open and she glared at Inuyasha. "...But.. not you..."
"....Wha...?!" Was all Inuyasha got out before Inubiki lunged at him. She was much slower then him, so he was able to avoid her attacks, but she was tenacious. Just as stubborn as him.
"I HATE YOU!" She screamed at the confused male, ignoring the cries of her name from Inuyasha's friend and Rin. Sesshomaru's smug look went unnoticed as well. Inuyasha's form blurred as her eyes welled with tears. "WHY DID SHE KEEP YOU AND NOT ME!?" she demanded as she attempted to strike him again only to have him dodge.
"What the hell are you talking about?!" Inuyasha demanded, confused as hell. He glanced at Sesshomaru and saw the smug look on the daiyoukai's face and scowled. "Bastard," He turned to attack his half-brother who only raised a slender brow in amusement, before he found himself face first in the dirt with a pissed off hanyou female on his back. "What the!? Get off!" he demanded.
Inubiki snarled at him and tugged at his hair painfully, before she pulled three ofuda out of her sleeve and charged them with her minimal youki. "let's see how you like being bound, Jackass." She snarled and slapped on his back and the other two on his wrists before jumping away.
There was no visible change in Inuyasha, except when he turned on his sister and pulled his blade to attack - he's had enough - and nothing happened. The Tetsuseiga didn't transform. Shocked, Inuyasha stared at his sword, then growled at Inubiki. "What did you do to my sword?!" he demanded, brandishing it in front of him angrily.
"Inuyasha No Baka!" She said, rubbing at her nose with her sleeve. "It's not your sword. Your demon blood can't reach your hands. You may as well have human hands. Know the pain I've lived with for almost two centuries!" Inubiki shouted back at him.
Sesshomaru was stunned, but he hid it well. The girl was not holy, in any way, and yet she'd managed to focus her youki into a binding ofuda.
Miroku grinned weakly. "Ah.. so that is what Father meant." He mused aloud.
Sango looked at the man she secretly loved in confusion. "What do you mean?" she asked as taunts and accusations continued to be thrown back and forth between the hanyou pair.
Miroku crossed his arms over his chest and looked thoughtful. "My father once told me that he was surprised Inubiki was as old as she claimed. If you actually pay attention to her, you'll notice she'd barely quicker then a human, her strength equal to the same. She looks like a half-demon, but for all accounts, she may as well be human." He shook his head.
Inuyasha looked at his wrists and quickly ripped the offending ofuda off them before he tried again. Tetsuseiga transformed, but almost instantly returned to it's previous state. "What the hell!?" Inuyasha demanded.
"There's one on your back, Inuyasha!" Shippo called out.
"....Thanks Runt!" Inuyasha said, surprising Shippo, before trying to remove the offending ofuda. Not so easily done. It had been placed in just the right place that no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't reach it. His actions trying to get at it had him moving, unknowingly really, in a circle - sort of like a dog chasing it's tail.
The resulting image was nearly too much, as Inuyasha made a fool of himself trying to remove the ofuda, for Sesshomaru. The daiyoukai nearly started laughing, but managed to control him self with a small smirk of amusement. Inuyasha's friends weren't much better. Shippo was outright laughing, while Sango and Kagome giggled behind their hands. Miroku was barely able to contain his mirth.
"The Tetsuseiga recognizes the girl's blood, bound though it may be." Myoga said.
Sango shook her head. "Is it possible that the blade is more intellegent then that pair?" she asked, looking to Miroku and the flea that sat on his shoulder.
There were several nods of agreement.
Inuyasha had given up and growled at his female-look-a-like. "I don't care what Sesshomaru told you, He's an ass. I don't have a sister." He figured that would calm her down. No chance. Instead his words seem to tick her off further and she lunged at him again. Not knowing what else to do, the hanyou stood his ground and when her fist collided with his shoulder, he wrapped his arms around her - effectively pinning her to her sides. "Fuck! Will you knock it off?!" He demanded, dropping to his ass and taking the girl with him, holding her tight enough to bruise until she stopped struggling in his hold.
Inuyasha's tactics surprised the others, to say the least. They all figured the more fighting didn't work for him, the more he'd try. That was just how their hanyou worked. Instead, he surprised them all by changing his tactics completely.
Miroku considered a moment, then ushered his friends back inside, Sango gently grabbing Kagome's arm and bringing her with. "I think they need to talk." Was what Sango said, voicing Miroku's thoughts. With a final glance, Kagome nodded and followed.
What about Sesshomaru? Kagome wondered silently as they slipped inside. Rin and Jaken had chosen to go with them. Leaving the siblings alone outside.
Sesshomaru watched the twins quietly, his face once again impassive. He said nothing, merely watched.
Ya know, you may be an evil bastard.. but we both know you were hopeing Inuyasha would reach out to her.
I didn't ask you.
No, but her fear of the wolves unnerved you, and that tribe isn't too far away.
They're pushing south again... Sesshomaru shook himself mentally, refocusing on the pair infront of him. Inuyasha's arms had loosened around his twin and she was sprawled on the ground, over his lap with her head cradled on his chest. She looked misserable, and while Inuyasha was still confused, he seemed to be trying to calm her.
"I don't know what happened," Inuyasha said, trying to soften his voice. "But mom wasn't the kind of person to abandon anyone." he said it in such a way that it was like he was making a promise. "If she really did leave you, I don't think she knew about you." This whole situation had him confused beyond anything else had in his two hundred some years, but... If Sesshomaru was to be believed, then this female who looked so much like him self was his sister. His twin. The mere idea had his protective instincts jumping to the fore.
Inubiki sniffled, not looking at him. She refused to look at Sesshomaru. "I don't believe you." She said misserably, but she wasn't trying to fight him anymore. With a mournful sigh, she closed her eyes and resigned herself to the fact that she wasn't likely moving for a while.
TBC...
A/N: I'm trying desperately to keep her from being Mary-Sueish. No, things between her and Inuyasha aren't fixed. They are not on good terms yet, but sometimes your gut tells you to do something and you just won't listen all the time. Sango still doesn't like her. And Yes, I know Sesshomaru is OOC a bit in this chapter. He's supposed to me. Inubiki has never met him before, only heard rumors. She didn't realize HOW out of character his comments and actions towards her were. He was acting purposely to pit her and Inuyasha against each other.
The sketch is actually from an RP in #Shikon-Destiny on Sorcery.net {IRC} but I didn't realize it until after I posted this chapter that the picture kinda fits here too. http://www.furaffinity.net/view/925117/
In the story, here, she's wearing regular miko robes. The sketch has her wearing an outfit she made herself - much to the chagrin of both brothers in the RP.
