The Lord Learns Something

Sesshomaru was very relieved that Rin had not been there to witness that unfortunate scene. The demon lord made a rare trip to the infirmary. He needed to see Jaken, if he was awake there would be questions.

"Lord Sesshomaru," An elderly looking panther yoki stood to greet his master.

"How is this one's retainer, Aoi?" Sessuromaru turned to see the disruptive breathing of a very pale Jaken.

"Young Master Jaken will heal, he is fortunate however. See here?" Sesshomaru looked to where Aoi pointed wondering what the elderly demon meant by young. Surely this elderly creature must only mean in comparison to himself. His musing was cut off at the strange sight, "Gills?"

"Yes Sire," The panther brought a claw tipped finger up to the fleshy openings. He raised the skin a little to show the red flesh beneath, "They are only beginning to form, but are you aware that only kappas whom are receptive for breeding develop gills. They are naturally aquatic creatures to be sure but most adult males never grow gills"unless they are submissive to another male."

"What are you implying Aoi?" Sesshomaru asked in less than amused tones.

"I am saying, my Lord, that your retainer is changing, he can bear eggs, most kappa can bear eggs, the ability lies dormant. Most of the time kappas engage in a more traditional male female relationship. Kappas are mischievous, sometimes even dangerous...but they are always, or almost always, inherently submissive creatures. They crave the protection of a more powerful being. I am aware that a group of swamp dwelling demons has come to the castle. Has he had contact with any of them?" Sesshomaru nodded. The panther's emotionless face turned to concern, "Oh dear, that is not good." The healer lifted the blanket that covered Jaken's lower body. He looked somewhat relieved.

"Is anything the matter?" Sesshomaru looked at the kappa.

Aoi shook his head, "I was worried. Kappas are not safe around dominate males, espically toads and frogs. I was worried he had been raped."

"He was assaulted, but not raped," Sesshomaru explained, "What did you mean when you said that kappas are not safe near toad and frog demons?"


"Oh, you did not know. I am sorry sire, I assumed you knew more of your retainer," Aoi frowned, but he continued to explain, "When I travled with my master learning about the arts of healing and potion making we traversed the marshlands looking for rare plants and fungus which are plentiful there. I witnessed the raids first hand.

Kappa settlements are rare anymore. The reason being the raids; Toads, frogs, and other amphibious creatures to a lesser extent attack them kidnapping young females and males, sometimes the entire villages were raised. They would spare only those that are of age to bear young. Kappa are prized as sex slaves and concubines, some even take them as wives. They are ruled by their dominate partners. Some are well treated, more are abused. Rape is not uncommon, and if a kappa is not near the water when he or she is impregnated that unfortunate creature will die. The stress of nourishing the eggs takes a toll on their delicate bodies. They must lay their eggs with in hours or at the most a few days of conception. Kappas are, however, skilled mothers.

They develop gills once they are receptive for the first time. This trait is useful when tending young that are water bound. Usually this transformation only occurs if there is a mutual attraction. It is easy to create a bond with one of these lonely beings. They crave dominance, but the transformation can also be triggered by forced mating. It was rumored that certain kappa bear children much stronger then either parent Those like your retainer that have more intelligence and demonic abilities are in fact the rarest and most sought after. Those that are claimed as life mates rather then playthings for their masters."

Sesshomaru had not known. He had sent his vassal into a den of lechers that would do harm to his person. Sesshomaru studied Jaken's face more closely. He noticed the nearly imperceptible bruise on the kappa's cheek. So that was why Jaken reacted the way he had. He had been slapped before. Now Sesshomaru had hit Jaken more times then he could count, but he never demeaned him by using an open hand. That was something he could not condone; a stronger being slapping a weaker one. It was wrong, an action meant to humiliate more so then to correct the creature.

"How old is Jaken?" Sesshomaru asked suddenly. Aoi looked at him with a sudden curiosity, "I do not know precisely. Kappas age differently then other demons. I would have to guess him to be three hundred, but he may be older. In terms of his kind he is still fairly young. A young adult."

Sesshomaru remained silent, but he laughed to himself, "I have always assumed he was older then myself."


"This one, must take his leave for the time," Sesshomaru turned to leave looking over his shoulder, "Please take care of him."


Sesshomaru made long elegant strides his direction undetermined. He wondered what to do about the toad. Gamamaru was a high class demon in his own right, but Sesshomaru knew that he was the stronger of the two of them. He was disturbed by a great many things. What had Jaken been put through. The experience of being killed aside there was nothing worse the sexual abuse. The Daiyoki did not know first hand, but as Lord of the West his responsibility lay in meting out punishments to criminals. He has seen it"Women and Children, weather yoki or mortal, could break under the abuse. Jaken was no different then a child to him, certainly an annoying child, but still one who had needed protection. Not only had he stood and watched as the kappa was abused, he had sent him into the midst of creatures that were willing and able to do the worst kind of harm to him. "This Sesshomaru must know," The great dog lord changed direction heading toward the guest chambers.
