Shippo went to his elders to find out about soul stealing. He still was certain that this Pearl was just a figment of Inuyasha’s imagination, but there was no lie to be detected. What if Pearl was telling the truth? What if Inuyasha really was dead? It was too horrible to consider. No there had to be a way to help Inuyasha either remember his past or to get his body back.

The elders were all sitting in a circle around a large fire telling stories when they saw Shippo approach. One of the elders could tell something was troubling the young fox demon.

“Shippo, come sit with us.”

Lilu the eldest of the elders stated softly with her melodious voice.

Shippo sat down and sighed.

“Tell us what is bothering you young one.”

Shami stated as he looked at the troubled soul before him.

Shippo explained what was going on with Inuyasha and the elders all started murmuring amongst themselves. It was a prophesized event, but nothing they thought that would pass in their lifetimes.

“He is a Chimera. We could sense one in our presence, but we were certain it was the newborn of Mika’s house.”

Lilu stated.

“So my Father is really dead.”

Shippo said as tears formed in his eyes.

“No, he lives on in the spirit world. We can contact the spirit world my child and you will find his soul is at peace. He is happy now, but this new soul is very troubled and trapped. She will need our help especially yours young one. She is changing the body and soon both soul and body will become one. We could sense it and smell it, but did not believe it until now.”

Shami said gently placing a hand on Shippo’s shoulder.

“So who then killed my Father?! I want revenge!”

Shippo roared.

“We can see who did this deed with something belonging to the former soul.”

Rama said as he contemplated this new information.

“I can get something of his.”

Shippo said rushing towards the hot springs. He couldn’t touch the sword, but the fire rat robes would work. Grabbing the clothes ignoring the shriek from Pearl who quickly covered her naked body Shippo dashed with the clothes to the elders.

“Will these work?”

Shippo asked the elders.

“Yes, but we will have to burn them in the magical flames.”

Rama said.

“They resist fire so that will be fine.”

Shippo said and Rama took the clothes wrinkling his nose a bit at the smell until he came upon a patch of blood, then more.

“This is good. There is a lot of the blood of the former life on these robes.”

Rama said with a smile to Shippo.

“His blood had power to it also so this will help us see his death.”

Placing the clothing into the fire Rama threw in some seer’s salts and prayed over them with a set of prayer beads. Suddenly the scenes came to life and Shippo watched in horror as Sesshoumaru killed Inuyasha in his human form. He could also see the horror on Sesshoumaru’s face as he realized what he had done.

“Inuyasha had tricked his brother into killing him. Inuyasha wanted death.”

Shippo said as tears poured down his face. He couldn’t believe……..no didn’t want to believe his Father died because he wanted to.

Suddenly a spirit appeared in the flames.

“Shippo…….my sweet little boy. I am happy. Do not be sad for me.”

Inuyasha said and Shippo looked into the flames not believing his eyes. There was Inuyasha except Inuyasha had his demon stripes and he wasn’t alone. He was with several people, people Shippo knew well and some he did not.

“I am home Shippo. I wanted to die. I didn’t want to leave you and my kids, but I was getting old. My human body was dying son. It was my time and I went the way I wanted to.’
“I didn’t want to have Sesshoumaru revive me so death and I made a deal. My soul was to be set free, but at a price. I had to give my body to someone who was not supposed to die yet. I didn’t expect it to be a woman, but shit happens.”

Inuyasha said with a laugh.

“But, you could have come lived with me. I would have taken care of you Papa.”

Shippo said through his tears.

“No, I didn’t want to die an old man. I wanted to go out fighting like I always did and I got my wish. Sesshoumaru might be a bastard, but he gave me the one thing I wanted. He gave me my freedom.”

Inuyasha said with a smile.

Shippo nodded his head as more tears came down.

“Shippo, son……..I need you to help Pearl. She is all alone in this world and doesn’t know anything about demons. She was a human like Kagome and she is changing. She won’t be a male for very long and I am afraid for her. She doesn’t understand fighting and you know my brother will hurt her if you do not help her. You know how he feels about half demons and she will be a half demon for a long time.’
“I need you to protect her and keep her safe for me until she can fight on her own. She is in my body, but she is a baby demon if you understand my meaning. She is not a young human, but you will see that soon enough.”

Inuyasha said and Shippo nodded.

“You swear you are happy Papa?”

Shippo asked.

“I swear I am happy. The only person I have not seen is the old man, but I will soon enough. At least that is what my Mom says since he visits her all the time.’
“We all love you Shippo. I know I didn’t say it to ya when you were growing up, but I always did. I always will.’
“I’ll see you again someday son.”

At that Inuyasha disappeared and Shippo reached out towards the fire trying to touch what was once his dearest friend and Father.

Shippo broke down in sobs. He couldn’t even bury his Father and it was all Sesshoumaru’s fault! Shippo wanted to maim the jerk, but he knew he couldn’t beat him. The only one that could was now a baby demon or baby hanyou.

It wasn’t fair damnit! Inuyasha always beat Sesshoumaru and when he didn’t Sesshoumaru had let him live if for nothing else to fight again. It just wasn’t right.

Lilu placed a gentle hand on Shippo’s shoulder.

“It is alright to mourn little one, but do not do so for long. Not when there are promises to keep and someone who needs you. She is very alone and death was not fair to her either.”

Lilu stated as Shippo nodded his head sadly.

“She doesn’t deserve to wear his robes. I will do all he asked of me, but I will bury his robes with my Mother Kagome. I will find something else for her to wear.”

Shippo stated taking the robes out of the fire and folding them reverently. Sure they stunk, but the stunk of Inuyasha and Shippo wanted to drown himself in that scent. It was safety and home.

Ripping a piece of the fabric with the blood on it, Shippo put it in his pocket and then took the robes to his hut. It wasn’t safe to bury them now, but he would scent mark the area with Inuyasha’s scent until Sesshoumaru was completely confused to where Pearl went. Then he would go to Kagome’s grave and bury the fire rat robe next to it deep enough to hide the scent, mark the grave, and disappear.
