Thank you all my lovelies for being so patient. I promise I haven't forgotten about this story, and just to say life has been utterly hellish is putting it nicely. However onwards, remer to review please!

The days walk had left Kagome more sore than she had thought physically possible. Between the years of era hopping and the long days as a shrine maiden, she had hoped that her body would have been in far better shape. However her sore feet and chafed ankles screamed at her with gusto as she took a seat on a fallen log at the end of the day. Slowly she stretched out her legs, her palms working over the sore muscles as she groaned in relief, her eyes fluttering shut as she relished the feel of the taut muscles relaxing.
“Do not bother to start a fire, we leave before dawn” came the terse sentence from the singular most irritating person on the planet, his eyes not even looking down at her. With an exaggerated roll of her eyes, she stuck her tongue out at him and silently mimicked his haughtier than thou attitude. With a silent chuckle at her own antics, she unrolled her sleeping bag and took off her boots to inspect her feet, wanting to make sure she had no open blisters that would hinder their progress the next day. Thanking whatever gods were listening, she pulled her socks over her blissfully blister free feet, figuring that she hadn’t gone completely soft after all. Only once her boots were back on and laced tightly, and her hair brushed til it shone, did she even bother to look over towards the Daiyoukai. He sat with his back against a tree about ten feet from her person, his eyes closed as he seemed to breathe evenly, ignoring the world around her.
“Do you ever miss it?” she murmured softly, her eyes focusing on the woods surrounding them. The two of them had avoided any signs of civilization, keeping to the small wooded patches between villages and signs of human life, or what was left of it. They had managed to sneak into a convenience store on the fringes of a small village for Kagome to grab some food products that hadn’t spoiled, and stuff her pack full of items she may not have an opportunity to grab on her raids in her own area. Slowly she popped a piece of beef jerky into her mouth, slowly chewing to savour the flavor while it lasted. Her eyes gazed into the closed golden ones that were shut away from her, the smallest of twitches in his right eyebrow announcing his irritation.
“Miss what Miko?” The deep baritone carried across the distance between them, his soft voice still crystal clear to her own ears.
“The way things used to be, back when we first met” she trailed off lamely, realizing that she was just looking for an excuse to hear another person talk. Kagome didn’t figure he would respond after this, rationalizing that he found her voice irritating at best and would just ignore her.
“At times, I do. I find myself longing for the simplicity of life all those years ago, versus the way the world runs today.” The stoic inu before her opened his eyes a fraction, his gaze wandering off into the shadows of the trees that surrounded them. He was lost to his own memories at that moment, some scene before his eyes she couldn’t see.
“You miss her too, don’t you.”
“Yes.” The answer was short, crisp, a throwback to the intimidating daiyoukai that she had once known. Rin was supposed to have earned her eternal life by marrying Kagome’s son, but both had been cut down so tragically short by her own kind. She felt his loss, and though she had always figured Shippou had died, news of his death was fresh and raw.
“I am sure she was beautiful as an adult” she whispered quietly, trying to imagine the chubby cheeks and klutzy child as a grown and elegant woman.
“Though it took her time to come into her own beauty, she really began to shine about the time your human friends got married.” Kagome’s ears perked up on the unintentional drop in information, her brain putting two and two together to realize that Sesshomaru referred to Miroku and Sango. Though she was still saddened still by the news of Shippou, the news of her sister (so to speak) getting married to Miroku caused a surge of happiness. Even though Sesshomaru had mentioned it before, she found the idea of their wedding so exciting. Before she could control herself, she let out a quiet girlish squeal, placing her hands over her mouth to muffle her own noise. Even though her conscious brain was excited, subconsciously she knew they were still in danger in those woods.
“What was the wedding like?” came out the excited whisper, her body nearly bouncing in its seat. “How long did it take them? Was it a big ceremony? Did…” her voice cut off suddenly as she realized the question she was about to ask, her throat constricting at the mere idea of the mention of his name. Slowly she took a deep breath and steadied herself, forcing her words to come out slow and even, the small waver in her voice betraying the lie that she was trying to force forward. “Did Inuyasha complain the whole time?”
Sesshomaru glanced over at her, his expression thoughtful but unreadable, as if he were trying to figure out the puzzle that she was in front of him.
It was a beautiful summer day, the hot humid sun glaring down at the young monk who stood, absorbing its life giving rays. Today was the day, today, of all days, of all the battles and near death experiences, today was the most important day of his life. Today he was getting married. He had already bathed, coming his now longer hair until it shone like the sun, carefully tying it back into a loose ponytail at the nape of his neck. He now stood outside the hut he was currently using in Edo before Sango and himself shared one together. The sun had helped him feel rejuvenated, and with a small prayer, he smiled to himself at the thought of today, his excitement nearly palpable.
Across town Sango brushed her own hair, sitting in Kaede’s hut as she kept reminding herself to not panic, and that today would run just fine. The elder priestess spoke soothingly to the nervous ride, smiling and reassuring her with a gentle pat to her wrist. Rin sat behind Sango, deftly brushing the older woman's hair, slowly using her own fingers to plait and pin the hair with a comb. The effect was stunning, and the shyness that had once enveloped the younger woman was now all but dissipated, her lips forming into a wide grin. She truly had grown into an elegant young woman, and she too dreamed of the day that her own wedding was upon her. Such fantasies were not for now though, as she motioned for Sango to turn around, a pot of powder and a fine brush in her hand. A small hint of sadness peeked through the stunning brown eyes back at Rin, and she smiled a soft smile of knowing at the older woman.
“She would be so happy for you if she were here” she whispered softly, keeping her own emotions in check as she remembered the bubbly young woman that she had once looked up to like a mother figure.
“I know, I just feel as if she should be here, she was like a sister to me” came the soft reply, the small tremble in the voice alerting Rin to Sango’s thinly veiled sadness.
“Now now no crying, we don’t want to make all of Rin’s hard work for naught, right?” The gnarled voice of Kaeded cut through the two younger women, causing each to smile and relax a bit, a soft chuckle escaping Sango as she thought of Kagome.
“She would be so frustrated at me right now too, nearly crying on my wedding day of all days!”
“I doubt it, but she would laugh and give you a soft poke to start smiling again” Rin replied with a laugh, her mind's eye seeing exactly how the future miko would react. The moment was fleeting though, and soon Sango stood to dress in her elaborate kimono. The garment in question was one of the few things that remained from the Slayer’s village, and had been the garment her mother had married her father in. Originally it was a bit too tall and tight in the bust, but the women of Edo had done a spectacular job of altering the garment to fit her perfectly. A soft gasp escaped Rin as she gazed upon the slayer in question, her eyes widening as the whole ensemble came together perfectly.
“Well? How do I look?” Sango’s voice was a bit more shakey than she would have liked, her hands trembling nervously in the wide sleeves. Slowly the younger woman smiled and nudged Sango in the side.
“If Miroku makes it through the whole ceremony without wanting to tear your clothes off then he is a fool,” Rin stated with a small wink, laughing as the older woman blushed. Being around youkai had made Rin a lot less embarrassed about sex, and she found herself internally chuckling about Sango’s perceived innocence. She knew what that woman had dreamed, and fantasized about, for years now. However the gentle ribbing was all in good fun, and before each of them knew it the time had come.
The ceremony had gone off without a hitch, and Inuyasha was surprisingly on his best behaviour. The sadness at Kagome’s abrupt departure had slowly been easing with each passing year, and today his genuine happiness for his two best friends radiated from the half demon. He smiled genuinely, didn’t make a fuss, and in general was the gentleman they each knew he could be. Rin could still see a touch of sadness in the Inu, the longing in his eyes for a day that would never been with Kagome. They had all given up on the hope of her return, and instead mourned her as if she had passed, knowing she was out of reach far into the future. Even Sesshomaru had shown up, towards the end of the day to visit his ward, and as she chatted animatedly towards her adoptive father, he watched as Inuyasha once again departed the village, silently leaping from tree to tree. That brother of his was different than he remembered, no longer a pup with alpha issues, now grown into the man that his family hoped he would become.
By the time Sesshomaru had finished recounting his tale, Kagome had wormed her way into her sleeping bag, a small sleepy smile on her face. She mulled over the memories, and the way her heart clenched a little less as she thought of Inuyasha, realizing that maybe now with a small bit of closure, she was beginning to heal. She still missed him intensely, but no longer was it a debilitating ache, raw and sensitive, but more like a scabbed over wound, one that just ached to touch.
“Last I could remember, the monk and slayer bore 6 children, two boys and four girls, and cared for the Goshinboku until they both died of old age. I believe their oldest daughter had been the one to build the shrine, her father’s stories encouraging her to do so. None of the children knew of your time traveling abilities, just that they needed to preserve both the tree and the well. Now that I think on it, it is funny how time plays itself out” he murmured, almost too soft for her to hear. Kagome nodded quietly, her mind racing with thoughts of their own as she settled into sleep, her dreams for once of a summer wedding and the laughter of her friends.
The two traveled this way for another week, avoiding human towns to keep to the wilds, sneaking through outskirts when it could not be avoided. Only two hanyous died in that time, one by her bow, another from his claws, and both were dispatched before others were alerted. Kagome and Sesshomaru had fallen into an easy routine, and as each day passed she realized that he was less and less of an irksome partner. They had reached another small town, and though they could easily avoid this one, she needed to pick up more non perishables, and it seemed this was as good of a place as any to do so. Sneaking their way into a local convenience store, Kagome began to stuff her pack full of items such a beef jerky, some ramen, and a small bar of chocolate for herself as a treat. Just as she finished she stood and turned, raising her arm to alert Sesshomaru that she was ready. He stood outside keeping watch over the front of the building, his back to her as he scanned the outside.
However the gesture died mid stand, because as she turned she noticed a hanyou slowly stalking towards her, her reddened eyes glaring into Kagome’s with a ferocity that she had become familiar with. Slowly her hand reached down to the bow that rested against a shelf, her quivver hanging against her hip, and her knife on the belt behind her. The creature growled as her hand neared the weapon, her hand pausing its descent, her mind working overtime to figure if she had enough time to grab the bow and use it before the hanyou closed the gap between them. The growl was enough to alert Sesshomaru outside, and the door gave a whoosh of air as he pulled it open, his eyes meeting the hanyous as well. The next thing kagome knew, she was on her back, white hot pain streaking across her abdomen as her hand fumbled for the knife at her belt, her fingers seeming to slip over the handle. Within a moment, the hanyou was ripped off of her, struggling against the grip of a much stronger creature, Sesshomaru.
He held the struggling woman aloft with one arm, his fangs lengthening as his stripes appeared and grew jagged, his eyes beginning to bleed red as he snarled his dominance. With about as much effort as she extended crumpling a piece of paper, his hand spasmed and like that, the hanyou was dead before them. Kagome almost let out a sigh of relief, however it was short lived as she gazed into the reddened eyes of the Daiyoukai before her. Normally by now he would have control again, but this time, his eyes hooded as he took in a deep, long breath. Slowly she tried to sit up, a whimper of pain escaping her throat as blinding pain erupted from her abdomen. Slowly she looked down, seeing the dark red blood flow from the deep gash in her side, the hanyou’s claws making quick work of her shirt and skin.Kagome knew that if she didn’t get pressure on the wound she was going to bleed out, and would probably require stitches. ‘Just freaking fantastic’ she thought to herself, gritting her teeth as she reached out towards the pack that had been kicked above her head.
Before her fingers could even brush the fabric, she felt a warm hand pulling up the shirt tenderly, and looked back down in confusion. Sesshomaru knelt down in front of her, his claws lifting the cotton of her shirt away from the wound on her side. The crimson orbs gazed at the equally dark blood, a pink tongue coming out to lick his lips, as if he were about to savor a tasty meal.
‘This is it, this is where I die’ she thought to herself, ‘in the aisle of a destroyed convenience store by a man who I knew 500 years in the past.’ The thought was so absurd, she nearly found herself laughing, if it weren’t for the severity of the situation. However instead of teeth and claws, something warm, wet, and a bit slimy met her inflamed skin, causing her to gasp in surprise. Sesshomaru knelt down, lapping at her wound like a man dying of thirst. His eyes hooded as he let out a low hum of contentedness, his tongue bathing over the tatters that was her side. Kagome held perfectly still, scared to break the moment with even a single breath, her head trembling slightly with the effort to lift it and watch him lick her wound clean. With a surprised start, she realized that the wound was closing, and quickly based on how fast the skin began to knit back together, Sesshomaru still licking hungrily at her skin.
‘It must be a healing property in his saliva or something’ she thought to herself, trying to not get lost in the sensation of his tongue on her skin. If she were to be honest with herself, which unfortunately not as often as she’d like to be, it felt wonderful. Slowly her eyes slid closed as she let the feeling of his tongue on her skin awaken sensations in her she long thought forgotten, her whole body letting out a shudder. Her mind gave only a half hearted fight, reminding her of the fact that this was Sesshomaru of all people, however it gave in as he slowed his mouth down, slowly trailing it up to the underside of her breasts. She knew she should stop him, that he wouldn’t want to do this with a human like herself, yet she longed so heavily for the physical touch her body was willing to do whatever it took to keep him there.
With a single claw, Sesshomaru sliced the remainder of her shirt away, catching only slightly on the bra that she wore beneath before it too, was cut wide open. With a nearly audible whine, he leaned down again, slowly tracing his tongue along the undersides of her breasts. Kagome’s breath hitched, her whole body thrummed as her eyes shot open and she gazed down at him, his dark crimson orbs looking back up at her with a hunger she had never seen on him before. Time seemed to slow for Kagome, her body willing each sensation he was giving her to last a lifetime instead of the mere moments she experienced them in. His tongue was like fire, leaving a trail of desire wherever it traveled, followed shortly by the tingle and rush of her own hunger straight to between her legs.
His nose widened as he sniffed the air, catching the scent of her own arousal, the smell of her honeyed nectar invading his nose. That scent blocked out anything else, the stench of cheap chocolate, the reek of the blood, everything was gone with her scent wafting up to his nose. Without any preamble, he ripped her shoes off, tossing them off to the side impatiently, his fingers drawing her pants over her hips, his claws choosing to slice off the button rather than fight with it. She knew she should stop him, somewhere deep, really deep, she knew that he would be so angry, but hells be damned she was a woman and this was the most physical attention she had garnered in years. Her heart panged at the thought of betrayal to Inuyasha, but she reminded herself harshly he was long gone, and if Sesshomaru was willing to give her the pleasure she so desperately needed at this moment, she was willing to let him have it.
Sesshomaru himself was oblivious to her plight, instead tossing her now ruined jeans off to the side somewhere near her shoes, his mouth watering as her scent invaded his nostrils once more. Lowering himself to his stomach, he placed his nose right against her mons, taking another deep breath of that ambrosia. Kagome shuddered as his breath ghosted over her nether lips, a whispered promise of what was to come. He wasted no time, no preamble, and dove his head forward, his long sinewy tongue licking from her slit all the way up to the hypersensitive bundle of nerves that was her clit. Kagome’s cry was soft, carrying the sheer pleasure she felt, but quiet enough that it wouldn’t draw too much attention. She desperately wanted to scream as he buried himself between her legs, probing as much of her inside as his tongue could reach. Never before had she felt such pleasure, all the toys in the world couldn’t compare to a living partner, and one that feasted upon her like it was his last meal. She tried to keep her moans hidden, silent as to not draw attention, but a series of low moans escaped her throat as he lapped her insides with a gusto she hadn’t known he possessed.
Sesshomaru growled, he wanted to hear her scream his name, his beast wanted to hear his bitch scream her submission before him, but somewhere in his mind he knew that quiet was the name of the game. That didn't stop him from abandoning her honeyed passage in favor of the little button of bliss that called his name. He drew her clit slowly between his lips, his tongue flicking it over and over again, circling and flicking, alternating between the flat of his tongue and the tip. He could feel her begin to really squirm, her back arching off the cold tile floor as she began to moan in earnest. His beast roared with approval as she gasped and whined, begging him for more, to not stop, her eyes rolled into the back of her skull.
Kagome was climbing a very familiar cliff as he continued his assault on the most sensitive nerves she had, her moans beginning to echo throughout the small store. Her mind was lost, lost to his ministrations with a very talented tongue, and she knew that her body would peak, and soon. She felt a hand snake under her thigh, holding her leg in place while the other traveled up her leg, a very strong finger probing her entrance. With a gasp she felt him sink all the way to his knuckle, turning his fingers til he found that spongy spot inside, and curled. The moan that escaped her throat was loud and hungry, her hands flying to his hair to curl into something, her body balancing on the knife’s, ready to dive over into oblivion. Sesshomaru seemed to know this as well, and his lips curled slightly as he hummed just ever so softly, his lips vibrating against the pearl they had captured between them.
She wailed, her body thrown over into the ravine of bliss with his hum, his fingers abandoning her passage in favor of his tongue, lapping hungrily at her essence that spilt forth from her, drinking of her hungrily. Slowly she felt his tongue leave legs, followed by the warmth of his body on top of her. Her eyes opened slowly to see his lips descending towards hers, planting on her lips in a forceful yet gentle kiss. She could taste herself on him, and though found the flavor not what she expected, what surprised her more was the fact that her arms had taken it upon themselves to snake around his neck and hold him close. His tongue darted out and slowly traveled the length of her lower lip, causing her to gasp slightly, and he wasted no time taking full advantage of her mouth. His tongue plundered her mouth, dancing and weaving with her own as Kagome let out a low heady moan, breaking the kiss only when she felt the need to breathe. Once his lips left hers, her eyes slowly opened to see the familiar golden color starting to return, and a look of slight confusion on his face.
She let go of him immediately, her brain which had been forgotten in the whole ordeal now screaming at her at the top if it’s tiny little voice what an idiot she had been, and now he was sure to kill her. However she realized the look on his face was not disgust nor anger, but more a look of concern, a look she had never seen on his face. He stood slowly and shook his head, neatening his clothes as if he had just helped tie her shoe, instead of giving her oral sex that would forever ruin her for any other man. His face settled into the more stoic look she had come to know, and he picked up her bag and handed it to her, his eyes trying to look anywhere but her rather naked body.
“Get dressed Miko, I will await outside” his voice cut through the awkward silence, her hands reaching up shakily to take the bag. Once the weight was off his hands he left, resuming his stance on the outside of the store. Thankfully Kagome got dressed in record time, leaving her old belongings there as she knew they were ruined for good. As she re-packed her bag, her brain looked back out to the Inu standing as still as a statue outside, musing over what had just happened and his reaction to it. She found that a part of her had awoken, and she didn’t want it to go away, even if it was Sesshomaru who had awakened it in her. She wasn’t complaining per se, why would she? Her brain picked apart how that man had been eye candy since day one, it was only his terse demeanor and his intense dislike of humankind that were the real turn offs here. Yet here she was, wondering if what she had done was the right thing. She knew her own body very well, and knew that if it weren’t for his haughtier than thou attitude, Sesshomaru was attractive as hell. But as for what had just happened the only phrase that came to her scattered brain was this.
‘What in the hell was that?’
