"Oh!" Ailyn's eyes opened at once and she sat over the wooden floor. It took some minutes for her mind to remember that place and to her lungs to feel that suffocating sensation growing inside again.
"So you're finally awaken, woman." A familiar voice caught her attention. Bankotsu was sitting by her side. To have a glimpse of his face certainly was a relief, she almost smiled while unwrinkling her dress and getting her boots to put on. Then, another familiar voice sounded, spoiling the fleeting feeling of tranquility:
"I know someone who can fix this arm of yours." A Naraku's puppet appeared, standing in front of the couple. The lips moving under the baboon mask could barely be seen.
Fix whose arm? The young foreign lass wondered with raised eyebrows. Ailyn looked around and, when staring at Bankotsu's entire forms, soon she understood what it was about. Although most of the mercenary's body looked lively and healthy, one of his arms returned to be purely bones, and the lad didn't even seem to be in pain. That amount of bony joints represented what the leader of the Shichinintai was in essence.
A corpse.
Ailyn blenched and moved away a bit. Bankotsu stared at her in a strange and quiet seriousness, she just turned her face to the other side in response.
A corpse, this is him. Why are you feeling so surprised? The Red Rose talked to herself, remembering the sorrow which obliterated her own sister's spirit, the unending mourn for losing the one she loved so much. What future would he have, being what he was?
Cobalt eyes narrowed, stuck on her visage as his skeleton fingers constricted and then stretched. He wasn't a fool to not notice how his limb's condition disturbed the woman. A brief, empty chuckle evaded his lips and that was all.
"How was the reunion with your sister?" Naraku's question, instead of breaking the ice just worsened the whole situation.
"What did you say?" Ailyn lightly shook her head.
"I know you met Annabelle, don't pretend you are unaware of it. How has it been?" After the inquire, a wicked chuckle made the atmosphere between them grew even tenser.
"It was normal, nothing much." She shrugged, pretending indifference.
"Do you miss her already?" The baboon insisted on the matter. Bankotsu watched their conversation without showing much of an interest.
"You are joking, right?" Annoyed, she laughed bitterly. "Of course not!" The lass got up, turning her back for the two males.
"What a shame, Ailyn Rose, because you must see her once again." Naraku kept the calm, mocking tone. Annabelle's twin turned around with an incognito designed on her features as in her arms straightened by her sides. "I want you to take Bankotsu to her, so she may fix this." At last, the puppet pointed to the man's mortified arm, inducing the golden-haired lass to look at him again. Turquoise globes rolled, then lowered in discomfort. "Well, well... it seems your condition disgusts the lady, Bankotsu." He blew the venom in the air.
"Whatever." Bankotsu got on his feet in one jump. "That's all?"
"When your arm are fully healed, you must return to this mount to meet the rest of your comrades." The baboon ordered.
"I shall not step a foot on this place ever again!" Ailyn said blatantly.
"And who told you will accompany them?" Naraku's grin enlarged.
"Well..." Surprised, her eyes widened and one hand of hers rested over the throbbing chest. Ailyn gazed at her journey's companion and then resumed to stare the Baboon's blank eyes.
"You will lead Bankotsu to your sister, and when his arm is recovered, the partnership between you two will be ended." He decreed.
In silence, the couple looked at one another unblinkingly. Although they longed to guess each other thoughts, a cloud seemed to surround them, turning both into undecipherable puzzles. If Naraku was already showing a pleased smirk, when observing the impasse of the duo on the way their sights locked quietly, the sick amusement made the puppet's white teeth shine beyond the veil of mist.
"Get on with it, then!" After deeply inhaling, Ailyn spoke and began to walk.
"Hey, ninja, are you coming?" Bankotsu referred to Kohaku, who has been watching their conversation so silently that Ailyn even forgot his presence among them.
"No, he stays." The baboon said, landing a hand over the boy's shoulder.

The mercenary and the witch went down the trail without saying a word. The European lass' pride was so big that even facing a hard time raising her legs to walk, she held onto the stony wall by her side, doing all she could to not ask for his help. Sometimes Bankotsu offered his unharmed arm to the woman, but she refused it while avoiding to meet his gaze, always seeking to walk steps ahead, so her back would be turned to the man.
When, after several hours, they saw themselves away from that sacred mount and the veil of pure energy felt a bit thinner, the mercenary broke the silence at last:
"Till when will you keep avoiding me?"
"Nonsense! I am avoiding nobody." She snorted in annoyance as moving away some branches of bushes to get passage from them.
"Oh no? So what are you doing then?" He laughed in disbelief.
"I am trying to get to my sister the fastest it is possible. I can barely believe that soon I will see myself freed from this ridiculous situation!" Ailyn sighed, yet it looked like a relief's breathing, her frowning complexion showed otherwise. Then, she felt something poking her, and looking sideways the lass saw a bony finger next to her hair. "Stop that!" She slapped his hand and jumped away. "You think you are so funny, do you not?" The Red Rose mumbled while cleaning her shoulder with one hand and he just laughed carelessly.
"You know what's funny? You didn't give a damn to a severed head of a warlord, nor to slaughtered bodies spread by the villages, but you're shitting in your pants right now because of my arm." Bankotsu waved the limb.
"I am not..." she paused "shitting in my pants for your skeleton arm, you idiot!" Blue eyes rolled while her head shook in denial.
"You're disgusted with it, I know you are." Apparently unworried, he walked by her side and the lass insisted on not looking at him. As she didn't respond to his last statement, Bankotsu just assured that his suspicions weren't completely wrong.
"We arrived..." Ailyn ceased steps in front of a calm stream surrounded by rocks and sat over one of them, looking at the treetops. "She will show up at any moment."
"How do you know" He stared at her, feeling intrigued with Ailyn's certainty.
"I just... know." Her eyes closed while her hand stroked the dark green moss covering the rock where she was sitting on.
Instants later they could hear some movements between the plants till a silhouette almost identical to Ailyn emerged from the bushes. Bankotsu faced her in bewilderment, not only for the peculiar mix of east and west's on her garments, neither for her face being covered by white rice powder and adorned by some blue arabesques, but also for the huge similarity between her and the blonde beauty who has been accompanying him. If wasn't for the hair's color and shapes, no one could differ the twins.
"You're back!" Anna smiled softly and came closer to her sister, she has barely noticed any presence beyond the two of them till the man's voice sound:
"How did she know?" Bankotsu questioned, as curious as a child.
"Let us say that we can feel each other's presence. Have you already forgot what I told you?" Ailyn explained without much of a commotion.
"Oh..." the ginger twin gazed at him and walked towards the lad. "So this is him..."
"So you have been speaking of me, hmm?" Cobalt eyes narrowed, focused on Ailyn as his cocky smile came to view.
"Yes, I did. I have unburned with my sister about the struggle I have been enduring while walking alongside you and your fellowmen." A soft shade of pink colored her cheeks and ears.
"What is your name again?" Ignoring her twin's bad temper, Belle friendly asked.
"Bankotsu" he answered directly.
The lady in white's smile discretely grew, for she remembered that name being spelled by Kohaku's mouth. Now such name had a face.
"We didn't come to this place to have a nice chat, I brought him here so you may help to... to..." Ailyn found some hardship to express herself while raising from the rock, "to fix that thing!" Then she spat it at once, already close to them, waving hands to his injured arm negligently, without sparing a look to it. "Please take care of the matter so he can follow his path and I follow mine." The lass snorted impatiently, if there was something she truly detested – it was asking people's favors.
"What happened to you?" Annabelle looked deeply into the mercenary's eyes, although her question seemed to refer his bony limb, it was deeper. The rounded sky-blue globes fixated on the tanned neck, and then they fell upon the enormous halberd he was carrying on his back. "The jewel shards sustain your life..." She whispered, her smile faded. "You shouldn't be here, between the living."
"What have you told her?" Bankotsu immediately assumed a defensive posture, his healthy hand squeezed Banryu's hilt.
"I did not tell anything, she can sense the shards." Ailyn's fingers covered his, untangling them from the weapon.
"Who brought you back to life?" The lass of the flaming hair asked.
"I did." Ailyn responded in his place, and such revelation bewildered her twin. "I, under Naraku's orientations, and using the power of a Shikon no Tama's shard, brought him back to life." She smirked at Anna's shocked complexion. "Are you satisfied?"
"What Naraku is plotting? Where is he?" The White Rose cupped her cheeks painted in white and blue, then her hands covered her mouth.
"Will you help us or not?" Ailyn questioned impatiently.
Annabelle's gaze lowered to the greenish grass, then it moved to the creek and glimpsed at her own reflection into the serene's water mirror. She was pretty conscious that helping the lad would be working on Naraku's behalf. She would inevitably be a part of his wicked plans in the end. The time she has passed on that village, away from the Spider, made her indulge on illusions of being free from his web, yet when Anna least expected, there she was, having to make a choice and her heart was pushing her to the wrong one.
The ginger lass took her eyes away from her reflection on the water to gaze at her other mirror, the living one, who was facing her anxiously. Ailyn's turquoises always looked hostile, this time however, albeit the rage, there was a gleam denouncing how worried they were, maybe even sad.
"Give me the arm." At last, Annabelle lifted her palms above and chose to obey her heart's will once more. "I do it for you, my sister," she made it clear, embarrassing not only Ailyn, but also Bankotsu who was silently watching the twins interact.
The mercenary twirled his lips and frowned a bit, but soon he did as the woman in white asked. His arm leaned over those warm, shinning hands. In instants, a bright light evolved it and went up his shoulder, making all it's extent gleam albescent. Soon, where the light touched, flesh grew and contoured the bones. The sensation was unlike the time when his life has been given back by the power of the Jewel though. For, along with the material, a sort of peace consumed him within, making his eyelids seal and a sigh come out from his parted lips. The warrior came back to his senses when feeling a sudden pain burn on his forehead. Annabelle, out of the blue, has pulled some black strands of his bangs.
"Hey! What the hell?!" He shouted angrily. Ailyn stared at them with widened eyes, covering her mouth with one hand to muffle a laugh.
"I just wanted to be ensured you're truly alive." Smiling with a strange naturalness, the red-haired woman said.
Bankotsu hummed, still annoyed, then he stretched and constricted his fingers a bit. "It seems that everything is in place." At last, the mercenary turned to the other twin with nothing more to say.
"This is it, now you can go." Ailyn spoke on her spot, plainly direct.
The lass who disguised herself as a yokai, watching attentively the couple staring each other in silence into an expectation of something she could presume, gave some steps back.
"I will leave you alone then." After those words, she vanished into the clear mist while the other foreigner woman was just parting lips to say anything.
Stupid Annabelle! Ailyn cursed in thoughts before resuming to look at the man ahead, standing imponent and a bit closer than she recalled.
"What are you waiting for? Why are you not gone yet?" Remaining on her place, she just crossed arms.
"I thought you would try to steal my shards now that we're not allies anymore." Chuckling, Bankotsu said, yet his open guarded posture showed how little he cared.
Ailyn stepped behind and cleared her throat, her theatrical indifference fell by the wayside and she felt compelled to run from his piercing gaze.
"What? Are you afraid I'll attack you to steal yours?" The mercenary came closer still, his warm breath caressed her earlobe. The Red Rose touched his armored chest, trying to push him, then Bankotsu dropped the halberd to hold her wrists and keep her close.
"Let me go!" She hissed, clenching her jaw. His hands cupped her face, rough fingers squeezed the softness of her cheeks, forcing her eyes to lock on his.
"Easy!" The mercenary said playfully "I just want to return something you gave me a while ago."
"What are you talking about?" The lass insisted on those frail attempts to push him away. "Be gone already!"
At first, Bankotsu laughed, and then his lips covered hers in a kiss far more passionate than the one he received on Hijiri Island. His tongue made it's way into her mouth, forcing teeth to part themselves and open space to his entering, there he found her own tongue and they twirled, entwined together.
With eyes firmly closed, Ailyn scratched the hands holding her head, she squeezed and slapped them, but nothing would make him release their grip. Although her high grunts were muffled by the encounter of hunger tongues, he didn't stop. His body induced hers to walk behind, till her back was resting against a tree trunk and she couldn't run anymore, even if she wanted to.
To the moment he cornered the lass, the mercenary released her face to press her waist in his hands. Bankotsu wasn't joking when saying he wanted to enjoy life to the full. The way his lips abandoned hers to explore the Red Rose's neck felt almost desperate, so devoted to feel, to devour the woman he was. No moaned protest made him stop to lick and bite that shuddering skin. The fingers which pinched him sometimes, and tried to put him away, now were entangling around the black locks of his nape. Into Ailyn's embrace, he lowered down one fancy sleeve of her dress to bite and suck her soft heated shoulder.
However, when in the apex of his excitement, he slid a hand under her skirt, starting to lift the fabric up, the sky-blue eyes suddenly opened and she finally pushed him down on the earth with her ghostly fog.
"No". Panting, the lass leaned her hands over the tree behind, when finding some balance she arranged her messy hair, then her luxurious dress.
Alas Bankotsu used to have sense of humor, this time he didn't laugh though. Silent, the mercenary raised from the ground, took his weapon and walked away in calm steps, without sparing a glance to look at her again. He didn't say even a goodbye or such, just left, leaving her there. Ailyn closed eyes and breathed in deeply, bitting her lower lip, still tasting his flavor, feeling his warmness. Her mind got filled of remembrances of the last days, of what she has went through along with that band, and with that man in particular. Her hands slid over her face, fingers massaged her temples. Her heart wouldn't stop racing, nor her guts to revolve infernally. She laughed, not for feeling any joy, but for the dryness into her core. Ailyn was mocking her own misery.
I will never see him again. She thought, almost falling of dizziness, feeling nauseous. I will never hear him saying my name...
"Go after him," then a voice made her jump of scare. "There's still time." Annabelle emerged from the protective fog..
To be continued...
