"What are you doing in here?" Ailyn walked behind, one step faster than the other.
"Fear not, I came only to inform you." Standing on the same spot, Naraku's voice sounded soft and tranquil.
"Inform what?!" On the other hand, the lass showed herself hysterical. "Bankotsu!" She called again, insisting on the search.
"Bankotsu is dead. Every men of the Shichinintai are gone." Smirking, he told the fact in the most ordinary way.
"You are lying." Ailyn shook her head and resumed looking to the sides. "It is a lie!"
"Inuyasha killed him." His eyes blinked slowly.
"No, it is not possible! He..." Sweating hands cupped a terrified face. Her trembling fingers entangled around the golden bangs, pulling the curled strands behind. He promised me he would come back! The shard on her forehead gleamed a bit darker than before.
"Bankotsu was just a human in the end. He could have fled taking his comrades' shards with him, however he chose to stay on the mount to face Inuyasha and avenge the death of his friends. How foolish!" A discreet, yet still audible chuckle of his reverberated. "He has been swallowed by Tetsusaiga's power."
"Liar!" Ailyn vociferated, pushing her body ahead, her fear was overcame by rage.
"You really grew fond of him, who could tell, eh?" One black eyebrow raised and the scarlet eyes lightly grew wide. Ailyn wanted to strangle him for that bright grin on his lips, yet she remained in the same place, with fire flowing into her turquoises. Naraku went on speaking though: "Bankotsu's last remains lie underneath these wreckage, if there is something left of him at all," and he chuckled again, delighting himself on the Red Rose's suffering.
After releasing a scream that lasted till her throat ached, the tormented woman has been engulfed by green fog and her hands pointed to the hanyo. Naraku stood where he was and in the very same calm state of mind, not really caring about her reaction.
"If you wish to take revenge on someone, look for Inuyasha," the violet barrier protected him from the ghostly mist. Soon his feet were leaving the ground and Naraku began to float. "For he is the one who has taken the life of the man you loved."
"Come back here, pest!" Ailyn ran into his direction, with hatred being replaced by the crushing feeling of grief, the first tear poured from her angry eyes. Her legs have not been fast enough to reach the Spider in the skies, and the lass had no inner strength to even think of persisting the chase after Naraku, for her body was entirely trembling, hot and cold revolving into her guts.
An object fell from above and got stuck on the desert soil, right beside the lass. Her legs oscillated and Ailyn fell sitting on the earth, ahead of the mysterious thing. It was a sort of greyish scythe, composed by a similar material of a weapon Naraku has made of his flesh a certain time, when he tried to induce Annabelle to murder her. Ah, yes, that has already happened before! Ailyn's heart skipped as if it was ready to jump from her mouth.
"This weapon is made of my bones, it will help you. Without that, you won't be able to handle Inuyasha and will fail, just like Bankotsu did." From dark clouds his voice echoed like it belonged to a divine being.
The foreigner crawled till she was close to the scythe, her arm stretched into it's direction, then her gaze focused on the pile of rocks ahead and suddenly that hand almost reaching the gift Naraku has offered just retreated without even touching it. Sorrowfully, Ailyn got up and ran away, frustrating the arachnid's expectations.
What will you do, Ailyn Rose? He inquired in thoughts, so far in the heights that his eyes could see the woman as a tiny red spot in the middle of the aridness.

"Is everything alright with your friend then?" Yoru asked while watching Annabelle heal the eldest villager's ankle.
"Yes" She smiled and answered, feeling calmer. "And she will look for a safe place to stay till she gets better."
"I'm glad for her, miss Shinrinko, and for you as well, since now you look a bit more cheerful." The child offered some help to other people with some scratches on their knees and elbows.
"Not a single detail goes unnoticed to you, isn't so?" The lass said, making the little girl giggle. "Well, I think we can leave this cave and find a new place to rebuild the village."
Everyone agreed, that grotto wasn't the most comfortable locus for living anyway. So, people divided themselves in groups and followed Annabelle through the forest's trails like a procession. When night fell, each person held a torch to illuminate the way. The weather was cold and the landscape so gloomy that Yoru embraced her guardian's waist while walking.
"Hey, you have a sister, you know?" Himawari pointed with her lips a bit curved down.
"Look who is jealous!" Motoko mumbled, mocking the girl.
"It's not like that!" The lassie dressed in a demon slayer outfit whined. "It's just that since Shinrinko arrived, Yoru almost never spend time with me."
"Your sister is right, Yoru." Annabelle serenely said, embarrassing Himawari who was coming right behind.
"Shinrinko, please, don't get offended, I was just joking!" the lassie waved one hand while the other shook her wooden stick.
"Not at all, I understand!" The foreigner looked at her over one shoulder, still smiling friendly. "Yoru, you're lucky for having your sister this close, just enjoy it!" She gave a soft push to the child, directing her to her familiar.
"Happy now?" A bit sulky, Yoru crossed her arms, walking along her older sister. Himawari firstly showed her tongue, then pulled the youngest near and soon the tantrum faded.
"Do you have siblings, Shinrinko?" Motoko asked, idling conversation.
"Yes, a sister, we're twins." She told, her gaze looking distant.
"A twin? Then is there a lady that looks exactly like you somewhere?" the girl was startled.
"Kind of..." Anna smiled clumsily, keeping the pace of her steps, guiding them all to a new path.
During the course, they ended up contouring the mount and the wind felt like changing. The ginger lass closed her eyes for a while, recognizing that sort of breeze.
"The sea isn't far..." the eldest woman between those people, who has sheltered Anna in her hut, revealed.
"Could we live by the sea, lady Keiko?" The idea seemed to excite the foreigner by the spark in her eyes.
"Certainly it would be refreshing!" The eldest said. "Now we must have a break and find a safe place to spend the night. You know, my legs are already old and get tired fast..."
"Oh, forgive me for forcing you make such effort!" She offered an arm as support so Keiko could lean down and rest against a rock. "Let's find some rest for today, in the morning we resume our journey."
The relieved people began to seek shelter under the trees, always near from each other. To that point, they were into the depths of the forest, where fauna and flora remained intact. The fallen mount and the destroyed lands stood behind. Yet, within Annabelle, the remembrance of such decay was still a source of unending sorrows. She couldn't stop thinking of how Naraku reappeared, changed not only in his looks but also in his manners. The way he looked at her marked her heart like a black stain into it's center. And what he has done – what he thought he has done, anyway – was not only unbelievable, but unforgivable! Belle still could feel waves of rage inside her chest, her whole being was revolted, quacking for the hanyo's actions and also for the sensations she kept in secret.
To calm her mind, she took a deep breath and remembered the early meeting that came with a wish:
"No one must know that I am alive," Kikyo struggled to declare, while being accommodated between the large roots of a tree, her hand was holding Annabelle's. "Not even Inuyasha, do not tell him anything."
"Don't worry, I don't have any contact with him anymore." Anna got visibly sad as recalling the last time she saw the Inuhanyo and his friends. They might think she was a Naraku's ally and want her head on a spike.
The priestess lifted her eyes to the sky and sighed, her faithful Shinidamachu arrived, carrying new souls to feed her vessel. Soon, the spectres of light began to get in, making her body shine to the silent western lass' view.
"I can move by myself now," to be sure, Kikyo lifted one arm, then repeated the movement with the other. At last, she rose slowly, not accepting the aid Anna offered her. "Worry not, I will be fine. At least I can handle it till find Kagome, only she can help me now." The miko assured firmly.
"Where will you go?" The lass followed her steps, intrigued by her last statement.
"Thank you for everything," Kikyo twirled, looking at her once more. "If it was not for you, perhaps Naraku would have fulfilled his mission. Unfortunately for him, my time has not come yet though."
"What will you do?" She insisted, feeling anxious.
"What you are not capable of" After such words, the priestess turned her back again and struggled to walk, her weak legs were still shaking. Her soul collectors then entangled on her joints and carried that fragile body away before the other woman could ask any other thing.

What I am not capable of. Annabelle sat on the grass, around her there were a plenty of people already cuddling nearby trees and bushes, surrendered to sleepiness. To kill him. She held her legs. I cannot even think of doing so. Her heart ached for the countless time, filled by uncertainty. On one hand, Belle prayed that the others could eliminate Naraku so peace would be restored in those lands, in those hearts. On the other, though, she knew such peace would never come for her, because with Naraku alive, the sorrows haunting everyone's minds, including hers, would never meet an end, but with his demise the pain of loss would consume her core to the breaking point. Anna couldn't bear the simple idea of what would become of her if he was gone. She feared the future more than dying and was very tired of trying to fulfill the void he has left inside of her.
A noise sounded nearby, it was Motoko's body swirling to one side then another, smashing the grass underneath.
"What is it?" Annabelle asked.
"I don't know..." the girl wiped the sweat on her forehead, then shook the legs. "Isn't it dangerous for us to stay in here? Aren't there many yokai lurking us, just waiting the perfect timing to devour everyone?"
"You may sleep tranquilly, I'll be awake and watching our surroundings." Anna said, resting her chin on the constricted knees.
"Are you sure? You must be feeling exhausted." The dark honey pools gleamed her worries.
"Ah, only if you knew how I'm used to stay up at night..." She said before a low chuckle. "Sleep now, and if I eventually feel asleep I'll call you and we just switch shifts, right?"
"Alright then." Feeling more at ease, Motoko closed eyes and moved her body till find a comfortable position, on her stomach. "Good night, Shinrinko".
"Good night..." Belle whispered.
It came the time of her biggest anguish, the late hour when everybody was sleeping and her mind punished her with thoughts and memories. She looked ahead, not really focusing her sight on anything. Instead of contemplating bushes, flowers, trees or herbs, Annabelle was immersed on a memento of the last afternoon. The one haunting her reveries wasn't Naraku though, but Sesshomaru, her troubled mind wandered on the remembrance of the coldness in his voice and in his aurum gaze. Not that he ever had behaved much different than that, however she could feel a shade of deception emanating from the daiyokai, and it was helpless not to question herself if the reason was her choice to go away. The lass was certain that he knew the meaning behind her departure. Each bond she has built, every friendship once raised was lost and gone. They should hate her, all of them. And, if the people around her may find about the things Anna lived with Naraku, they would come to hate her as well.
Damned should be nighttime, damned should be the idleness, both terrible companions to the ones who takes all responsibilities to themselves, exactly Annabelle's case. She blamed herself for Kikyo's state, and realized she would still blame herself if any other misfortune came to happen to whomever it could, if caused by the arachnid's schemes. The lass was so linked to him that she didn't know when Naraku's deeds ended and hers began. How would be possible to take a side? Was all of this mess the work of that jewel shard in her chest, feeding empathy for Naraku, besides the desire?
It was inevitable to remind the last time they have been together before meeting the spider with his body renewed. In a time which seemed so far away, the hanyo's eyes were overflowing sadness and dread, his touch was filled with despair, and Naraku said plainly he could not let her go. Yet in the present his indifference was almost tangible, so why the bastard wouldn't take that little piece of hell from her skin? Why?!
Shit, Naraku! Her fingers squeezed the skirt that once has been white, now full of rags and dirt stains. How do I free myself from you? The divagation shuddered her inner pillars. Reason demanded freedom, yet emotions pierced her soul like sharpen blades only by cogitating such idea, imprisoning the lass on that painful duality.
And the hours ran by into a cruel slowness till the first solar ray descended, shinning across large leaves in three arrows of golden light. The morning was so cold that a thin layer of fog formed over the grass, people shivered, shrinking in their sleep. The daily star showed itself timidly, barely warming the homeless ones. Annabelle sighed, vapor poured from her lips.
She heard steps, someone was getting close, crossing the tenuous veil of mist. The red-haired lass recognized the newcomer instantly.
"Ailyn..." Belle got up.
The other woman ceased her pilgrimage, the lowered shoulders denounced her tiredness. Anna came closer, in light steps to not wake anybody. Under a fancy ribbon it was possible to see Ailyn's darkened Shikon shard.
"He is dead," the blond twin said, her turquoises aimed to the greeny ground. "Dead..." Apathetic, she repeated, and her sister didn't need to ask about who Ailyn was mentioning. Just by seeing her lethargic features and by hearing the mourn in her voice Annabelle already knew.
"Oh, dear sister..." She stroked the other's inertial arms, as if trying to warm them up. Her clear pools twinkled, moved by the familiarity with such awful sensation her consanguineous had the misadventure to go through. What to say to her? "I am sorry, deeply sorry!" Anna held her and caressed the golden hair, inducing her equal to rest the chin over her shoulder. "How did it come to happen?"
"Bring him back." still catatonic, Ailyn said without retrieving the embrace.
"Where is he?" Anna didn't resist the pleading, for she felt in her heart it was her duty to give this to her sister.
"Somewhere underneath that bloody mount." She told as if in trance.
"Wait here." The Red Rose asked carefully, before going to Motoko. She touched her shoulder and shook it lightly, the girl awoke instantaneously, throwing arms and legs up and looking to the sides.
"Huh? What? What is it?" Motoko asked in confusion.
"Time to switch shifts." Annabelle whispered. "I need to go to a place, by the afternoon I might be back."
"Fine, fine!" The girl nodded, turning her face around, stopping when finding Ailyn at some distance, sad and pale as a phantom. It's her sister! She admired the two women's similarities in silence.
"Let's go now!" The ginger came near to the blondie, soon holding her arm. "Hold onto me." Anna said, and her sister just obeyed without questioning. They took flight, in any other occasion the Red Rose would have filled the White with inquiries about such skill, and Anna would have to admit she was using the jewel shard's power to do so, but the recent moment was unlike any other they have lived together in Japan.
