The twins arrived at the ruins of the mount, Annabelle barely breathed before lifting her arms above, closing eyes and concentrating all her energies on the amount of stones spread all over the place. One by one, the rocks began to float along with some grains of sand. Ailyn then searched in every opened hole for any trace of her dearest mercenary, yet nothing came to view. Untiringly, she persisted on looking for him, the few rocks still on the ground were pushed by her anguished hands, while Annabelle sustained the rest of debris upon their heads, rocks, dry wood and dirt hovered in the air inside a cape of white light. They spent all the morning in there, till the red-haired lass gradually lost her vigor. Those flying objects started to shake on the heights, the clear shine around them oscillated. It was like all stones and branches wished to return to where they belonged.
"Ailyn, I can't take it anymore..." She warned, her legs and raising arms trembled, her knees were already bending.
"Endure it! Use the power of Shikon no Tama!" The other commanded, also feeling exhausted but finding forces from nowhere to crawl upon the debris covered by dark dust.
"Get out of there, right now!" Anna retorted the order with another.
Her sister could be miserable inside, however she still was able to understand what would soon come to happen, and she didn't stop to value her own life yet. So, the blonde lass rolled out from the ruin's remains and watched the rain of stones and dirt pouring down. Belle fell, sitting on the earth, sweat made her milky skin shine in the weak sunlight.
Ailyn rose, haggard, and ran to her sibling, pulling her by the arms, making the ginger lass stand although her tiredness.
"I am sorry..." panting, the White Rose shook her head, every feature of hers showed absolute sadness. "I am very sorry!" She said once again, covering her own face with one hand.
"What do you mean you are sorry?" The other Rose, deeply restless, uttered. "Do something!" Trembling icy fingers shook the ginger twin's shoulders.
"You don't understand..." Anna tried to explain.
"Oh, but I do understand very well! I have seen you acting cowardly before!" Ailyn's firm intonation muffled her sister's murmurs. "Why did I ever think it would be different this time?!"
"Lynnie..." She held the blondie's hands, yet the woman pushed her harshly, making Belle fall sitting on the earth again, looking surprised by such sudden rage.
"How could I just cogitate the idea of forgiving you?!" Ailyn vociferated, almost boiling with hatred. Then, she walked in circles, sinking her fingers on her curled head. Between moans and whispers she began to growl, to groan, to drag her nails over her cheeks. "You are useless, you do not deserve the power you have! This is so unfair!" The woman yelled, then resumed to produce strange sounds like an outrageous beast.
"Lynnie!" Annabelle insisted on calling her by the childhood nickname, a few tears were already dripping from the corner of her eyes.
"Do not call me by this name!" She turned abruptly, facing her coppery mirror again, pointing a finger to that creature her heart despised. "I disown you!"
"Stop it!" Anna got up and ran to her twin, just to receive another push.
"How can you deny me that?! Was it not enough to deny me my father? Amelie?!" She yelled, spitting the past martyrdoms on her sister's face.
"Our father made me promise I would not bring him back! About Amelie, not even her embers remained, and that woman never deserved your love anyway, she never cared about you or anyone else!" Her posture grew hardened so she could make herself listened, her hands grabbed Ailyn's wrists to prevent any other push or possible blow.
"Lies! Amelie was the only one who cared about me!" The lass retorted furiously. "After her, only Bankotsu showed any sort of feeling towards me!"
"That's not true!"
"Yes it is! Shut your mouth, you do not understand!" Ailyn grunted and shook her arms till manage to release her wrists, then she punched Annabelle's shoulders frantically. "I hate you, I hate everything you represent! Why do you not die, you bitch?! Why did you not die instead of mother, or father, or Amelie?!" Suddenly, her face ached infernally and her body waved. "Ah!" A scream of pain fled from her gritted teeth, Ailyn covered her injured cheek with one hand. A pluck brought her back to the arms of the one she wished to scalp.
After slapping her face, Anna held her tight, locking the Red Rose inside the embrace.
"I understand, how I understand!" She uttered at Ailyn's ear, sobbing. "I also lost people that I loved, I also lost the man who I had delivered my heart! I never wanted you to go through this, but dear sister, I can't do anything if there isn't a body!"
Ailyn's hands punched her back for a while, till them slowly stop and rested opened on the grimy fabric of Anna's clothes. Then the woman who used to look like a fortress fell into tears.
"Why did you have to tell me to go after him? Do you not see how cruel it was? I did not want this, I did not want to be like you!" She sobbed too. "Look at me now!"
"You'll be alright!" Belle stroked her curled locks, squeezing the sister into the embrace to keep her warm.
"Alright like you?!" Along with the crying she chuckled acidly. "It never fades, Annabelle! The void left by the ones who passed is neverending, and it looks worse for me, because I know that when I die, I will not meet any one of them, for I have sold my soul to the devil!"
"There must be a way to revert this, we shall fix it together!" The ginger lass insisted on showing a light inside all that darkness, yet she didn't sound convincing enough into Ailyn's ears.
Her golden-haired reflection moved away, wiped her eyes and laughed. Tears of sorrow, tears of bitterness, tears of self disdain all poured together with such laughter, there was no avail to cease the salty drops to fall down.
"Ailyn!" she called.
"You are ridiculous, Annabelle!" The woman held herself, sliding hands across her own red sleeves as if trying to clean her arms from her sister's touch.
"Wait, don't go! We have so much to talk about, mostly of our past!" She gave fast steps towards her sibling.
"I do not want to listen any other word coming from your lips! The sound of your voice disgusts me!" After screaming such things out loud, a portal opened right behind of her back. Ailyn threw herself inside before the pinnacle of her rage could reach her.
"Ailyn, don't!" Her hand caught the air, she had no time to get to her twin, and didn't even have a clue of where did she go. Anna cursed herself for losing what has been so laborious to conquer, she had high hopes her only family would finally accept her back, and then everything faded into dust, all because of...
"How bothersome..." the voice of the one she blamed interrupted her thoughts.
"Naraku." The name sounded firmly as Annabelle's jaw clenched while spelling it. Her breathing fastened, she knew he was a few steps behind.
"At least Ailyn Rose has learned the lesson, she had it coming. Don't you agree?" He commented calmly.
"You must be the one responsible for this." The lass turned to him, hands closed into fists.
"Me? Ku, ku, ku!" The spider chuckled, delighting himself on another's tragedies. "Who reaped Bankotsu's life was Inuyasha".
"Does Ailyn know that?" Her blood felt like freezing into her veins. The dreadful sensation worsened when she didn't get a response. His grin enlarged.
Her eyes widened and her feet took her to the hanyo in a desperate jump. Facing the bringer of her torments, Annabelle hit his unarmored shoulder, then nailed his face and neck. The scratches on his skin were regenerated as soon as they had been inflicted. Naraku could have repelled her, yet he didn't even move. On each blow the hanyo received, a loud laughter echoed from his mouth. He allowed the woman to violate his flesh till she got tired and her body arched ahead, frail hands resting over his chest covered by a spiked armor made of rigid bones.
"Bastard, I want to witness your doom!" The lass panted. "I want to see you torn into pieces!" Every offense dropped like poison from her trembling lips. "Anything I could have felt for you dies today!"
"Oh, really?" Apparently indifferent, Naraku cupped the human's face between his fingers, those huge hands almost swallowing her cheeks, forced the woman to meet his gaze. Immediately the shard in her chest – glowing a bit darker – pulsed strongly inside, melting her joints. Rage still overflowed from the pair of blue eyes, although Anna's fastened heartbeats denounced her internal conflict, as did her lack of answers and her absence of strength to push him away. Once the hanyo's thumb lightly rubbed over her lower lip her eyelids felt heavier. Then his warm mouth slid over her cheek, getting close to her ear, shivering her skin to finally speak in a husky tone: "I don't think so". Following his words, a new mocking chuckle sounded. At last Naraku released her as if nothing has ever happened.
Annabelle walked behind, shrinking her tremulous body, the fury within her core has not been tamed, yet it got mixed with her melancholy. She didn't want that, she fought against the impulse in any way she could, but in the end her mind would just give in to memories from a time when that halfbreed spider demon seemed to look at her with fondness in his ruby gaze, and the worse of everything was how she missed those days which looked as ephemeral as a reverie.
"Why are you doing this to me?" She whispered hoarsely, her eyes sunk into his. "What have I done to you?"
His smirk faded, sealed lips remained silent. The crimson pools, locked with the blue ones, grew shadowy and Anna couldn't guess the reason why, the lass believed to see hatred inside of them.
"I was doing fine, moving on with my life, thinking less about you as the days passed by. Didn't you have everything you wanted from me, wasn't that the reason you have just sent me away?" Her voice cracked, Annabelle breathed deeply before resuming her inquiries. Her heart could be throbbing, still she wouldn't succumb to crying and freeze, nor would she silence her doubts anymore. To the hell with the thin tears pouring from her eyes, burning with resentment. Belle went on speaking even so. "What else do you want to take from me? What could you possibly want that you didn't already have?"
"Tsk!" He discretely frowned. Although his chest was empty inside, his vivid parts could feel the cold running within and the unsettling sensation filled the hanyo from his head to toes. The most strange of all things was Naraku knew he had been successful, for he could feel the purplish aura evolving the tiny jewel shard inside of the lass. Darkness was growing, lurking around the spot of white light in the center of the piece into Annabelle's chest.
"Is it about the night I have been with Kagewaki for the last time?" And the question pierced him like an arrow.
"What did you say?"
"You're taking revenge on me because you know I have laid with him." Her shoulders ceased to shrink, her chin lifted up. Anna assumed that theory as a fact, so she didn't bother to ask, but stated that instead, then followed her speech with no more shivering in her tone: "I'll have you know that I don't regret it, not even for an instant, and if I had another chance I would lay with him again." Her last words' only purpose was to hurt him, they had no commitment to the truth at all.
The spider-demon's complexion blurred, his gaze looked briefly opaque and his breathing sounded audible enough so her human ears could hear it.
"I couldn't care less about with whom you lay with." His voice went out deep, then a maniac grin recolored his cruel face. "Even in death it would not be atypical of Kagewaki to settle for leftovers". As soon as Naraku witnessed her cheeks flushing in anger, he laughed. Still, not even the hanyo could explain the reason of his debauchery if he was feeling anything but satisfaction.
Naraku waited for Anna to shout, or maybe attack him with nails and teeth once more, and all he got was silence instead. After bitterly swallowing every cold word of his, the lass shook her head and closed her lips, profoundly sighing as passing by the arachnid's side without bothering to look at him. Naraku turned and watched her kneel down, sinking hands in the unfertile soil, then her light covered her forms.
"What are you doing?" He asked. One red eye staring at her over his shoulder. Again, her silence was the response. "Are you looking for Bankotsu's remains?" Naraku wondered, and soon realized he guessed right. When the foreigner understood that not even in such way she would get to find the mercenary, her arms pointed to the sky once more, rocks flew from the ground and an invisible force threw them at the distance. "Forget it Annabelle, there is nothing left of him anymore" he told nonchalantly.
The last phrase the bastard has uttered, how it sounded familiar! And it really was in the end, for Anna remembered very well the time when she lost her first love, and who has been the cause of that disgrace.
"Has he been swallowed by your miasma?" She asked harshly, still turning her back to the spider.
"Oh, no... As I said, Inuyasha finished him, and I ended up absorbing his rests accidentally, as I did with the Mount Hakurei's interior" Naraku spoke like mentioning an ordinary matter.
"What use a human's remains will have for you? Why don't you throw them away?" The lass inquired, gazing at the horizon ahead.
"Even if I wanted to, I couldn't anyways. Bankotsu's bones have already been dissolved inside my stomach." His face also raised to the purple firmament. As soon as he heard sudden steps, Naraku resumed to look at Annabelle, watching her figure walking away. "Will you go after your sister?"
"That is none of your business." Her voice echoed from afar. "Show yourself when it's time to take this curse from me." She stopped, touching her chest, yet never glancing back at him. "And then, never look for me again." At last the lass returned to walk, going to an unknown place to the arachnid.
Naraku slowly spun his formidable new body, his undecipherable ruby globes still could see her, even so distant, and they did not blink. His fingers moved discretely, rubbing against each others, and his faded lips remained straight, sometimes constricting a bit. When she finally disappeared from his sight, the hanyo lowered his head with eyes half-closed. The wind waved his vast long obsidian hair, some curled locks brushed against his squalid cheeks so lightly that he didn't notice. Suddenly, feeling empty inside didn't seem as comforting as he thought it would be.

"Shinrinko, you are late!" Motoko rumbled as soon as she saw her. "You said you would arrive in the afternoon, look at the sun's height! It's almost dusk!" In little jumps, the girl came near to the friend who was almost dragging her legs while walking between the trees, with eyes wandering lost, clouded.
"Forgive me..." The absence of emotions on her timbre bewildered Motoko and Yoru, who was sitting with some villagers, eating a piece of grilled meat.
"Himawari has hunted our food, come join us," Motoko invited, showing an embarrassed smile while pointing to the people gathered by the fire.
"I'm not hungry" Apathetic, she said. "When everyone has finished, we can follow our path."
"What is wrong with her?" A girl murmured to another. Yoru, settling close to both, felt anguished.
Annabelle sat next to a bush, far from her journey companions. There she stood, holding her own legs, not noticing that Keiko was discretely glancing at her.

If Annabelle was the definition of lethargy, Ailyn was a storm personified. As her feet touched the ground, greenish spectres cried and contoured the nature around, withering it to the core. Soon, that part of the wood she has crossed turned into a gloomy swamp, full of floating ghosts and dark fog.
Tired, depressed and outrageous, the Red Rose sat over a large rock and sunk her fingers under the golden locks. Even ceasing to walk aimlessly, her breathe was still cracking, fastened, as did her anxious heart, trembling into her chest. Her cold palms touched the cheeks whitened by horror, while the western lass kept remembering her whole life, seeing every moment running inside her mind like fleeting beams, till she got to the last of the few joyful ones.
"Bankotsu, you idiot..." Ailyn covered her eyes behind both hands. "You promised me you would get out from there alive!"
"Do not blame Bankotsu" a childish and inexpressive voice caught the mourning woman's attention. "Blame who has killed him instead." At first, Ailyn saw only a white figure crossing the dark mist. Bit by bit, that thing assumed the shape of a little girl, accompanied by a swarm of venomous wasps which carried a familiar object – the scythe Naraku has offered her as a gift.
"Inuyasha..." She recalled the lad of silvery hair and red clothes.
"Show him the pain of losing the one you love." Kanna oriented emotionlessly. "Kill Kagome first, get rid of him then." She finished. In the rounded mirror the girl was carrying, the image of Kikyo's reincarnation reflected.
Ailyn stood up, leaned her arms to the weapon carved in spider's bones, and the scythe floated till reaching her fingers, as if it has been attracted by her touch.

"Achoo!" The time traveller's body trembled with such intense sneeze.
"It seems someone has been talking about you, Kagome!" Shippo said with a giggle, the girl laughed as well.
"Or you caught a flu." Sango looked worried. "Did you bring that medicines from your home?"
"Please, don't even mention it!" Kagome waved her hands. "We're closer to defeat Naraku each day, and also I have to be in good health to succeed in my exams!"
"What would be those exams, I wonder?" Miroku scratched his chin. "Could it be a new sort of war?" He joked.
"Kind of..." Kagome rubbed her head while muffling another chuckle.
"Hey, slow pokes, keep walking!" Ahead of the group, Inuyasha nagged, impatient as always.
"Yeah, we got it!" The guardian of their Shikon shards retorted and fastened her steps, however, a strangely cold breeze made her stop while the others were following the inuhanyo's trail. She turned behind and locked her brownish eyes on shaking bushes and trees. Narrowing her gaze, the girl kept attentive to anything which could possibly be lurking behind the woods, then the little fox demon into her arms poked her shoulder.
"What is it, Kagome?" Shippo asked, looking preoccupied.
"It's nothing!" She shook her head and smiled. It must have been my imagination. Then Kagome twirled on her heels and walked fastly to her dearest friends ahead.
