Disclaimer: I do not own InuYasha, nor make money from this story. |
I am pleased to announce that this part has been cut completely. I am attempting to fuse InuYasha with Dragonball Z and some element of reality, and in doing so, my early writing often descended into pseudo-political nonsense as I attempted to explain everything. Tactically-placed bits of explanation here and there along with better pacing have allowed me to overcome this difficulty, however.
Battlefield 1442
Chapter I: Stagnation
West City, 57 miles NW of Kanazawa, Japan, 2137 CE
West City, by the middle of the 22nd century, had become the most developed and heavily-populated metropolis in all of Eastern Asia. This radical growth had been spurred on by the Capsule Corp's continued and almost monopolistic dominance over the development and sale of advanced electronic equipment, both for the civilian and military market. Being the center of the World Martial Arts Tournament greatly increased its importance, too. In fact, the city had grown to be so large it had to be disconnected from the mainland, moved sixty miles into the Sea of Japan, and anchored to the sea floor. The city now sat waterlocked, a quintet of man-made islands connected by mile-long underwater and above-water bridges. Even with this expansive measure, the city was practically on the verge of spilling over into the sea; some buildings came withing twenty yards of the water, the only division being a thick, steel-reinforced concrete wall surrounding each urban sprawl.
It was a beautifully sunny day and the only clouds in sight hovered high up in the stratosphere. It seemed to always be sunny in West City, the sea air did wonders for the weather. The city looked polished and clean in the fresh sunlight of the afternoon, its aerodynamically-designed, aluminum-skinned buildings gleaming brightly. West City was alive and bustling with activity, with people driving to and from work, to the shopping centers, and the schools. Every one of the millions who lived there felt wonderful and proud that they were living in such a hub of activity. All except one.
He sat on top of the city's TV station, which stood higher than any other structure around. His legs dangled over the edge of the roof and his heels every so often tapped the wall behind them. He lifted his head from his folded arms, which were resting on the middle rung of the safety rail that lined the concrete edge. This lone man wore a loose-fitting pair of golden-yellow training pants, and a blue, double-breasted training gi. His boots were scoffed and dusty from years of hard hand-to-hand combat, and his jet black hair spiked out in every direction, wavering slightly in the wind, as if it were standing some kind of watch over his head.
For 140 years, Goku had not been happy for one solitary second. After he and Vegeta killed Li Shenron, the true incarnation of the Eternal Dragon demanded that Goku follow him and absorb all of the power of the Dragonballs into his being, presumably to give them some much needed rest within his pure-of-heart body. When a person, any person, intakes that much energy, the line between life and death blurs somewhat and becomes a sort of half-life, enveloping that person in perpetual limbo. Because of this, Earth's absolute mightiest had outlived his family and friends, watching them die from simple old age. He sat on top of the TV station for a reason; it lay on the procession route of a certain funeral.
Pan was dead.
However, the death had not been natural.
It happened two weeks ago, during the New Year's weekend. On a special island five miles away from the main of West City, a military exercise was carried out between the Unified Korean Army and the Japanese Self Defense Force. It was really more of a good-hearted sparring match between two warriors, only with large numbers of people involved and official rules of conduct. This exercise was a test of the Korean K1A5 battle tank against the ancient-yet-vaunted T-55 of old Soviet Russia. To understand why the accident had any chance to occur or even harm innocent bystanders from five miles away, one needs to understand the the status of the planet in the 22nd century.
By 2020, the need for a decisive, yet non-nuclear advantage over its antagonists became blatantly apparent to the Russian Federation. This new weapon had to be easy to manufacture, require little or no maintenance, and had to be easy to deploy with equal notice. Dozens of companies and corporations vied for the lucrative weapon contract, and they submitted everything they could dream up, ranging from simple assault rifles to surrealistic fighter-bombers. Unfortunately, every design proved to be either uselessly mundane or hopelessly fantastic in scope, with exception to three companies. These three; Heckler & Koch of Austria, U.S. Robotics of the United States, and Capsule Corporation of Japan, decided to rework the very essence of combat by redesigning the soldier that fought it. The Austrian and American companies attempted to construct fully-robotic battle drones for general battlefield use, but both of these were bulky, finicky, and overly visible, so they were turned down. Capsule Corporation, on the other hand, had first-hand experience with the most powerful and compact force on the planet: ki. Bulma Briefs saw the most dramatic battles on earth fought not with guns or missiles, but rather, bare hands. A warrior with such strength could sweep armies aside in a breath, and destroy entire planets in a single muscle twitch. She set out to create the single most powerful warrior on earth, and with her long studies of Goku's tenure of planet Earth, galactic supremacy became feasible.
She started by observing Vegeta and Trunks while they fought at various levels of their power. After analyzing the energy transfer in their bodies, she discovered that their seemingly magical abilites were nothing more than twisted variations of the Electromagnetic Theory. A Super Saiyan was, in all actuality, a walking, talking Tesla coil. Saiyans were better able to control this energy because of the high electrical conductivity of their nerve endings; humans had slightly higher tendency to insulate their power. This small discrepancy led to exponetially different energy output in the end, though.
Armed with this knowledge, Bulma Briefs created General Ivan, named and modeled after a nigh-on mythical figure from World War II, who supposedly eradicated an entire battalion of the German Army at the recently-revealed Second Battle of Stalingrad. Learning of this battle was slightly chilling to Bulma, because the description of Ivan's actions was unsettlingly similar to what Goku or the others were capable of, despite happening 70-80 years prior.
Freaky rumors aside, General Ivan was a feat of engineering. Taking some concepts from Dr. Gero's research, Bulma created a warrior that was organized like a android, but constructed of synthetically-produced, organic components, all the while powered by a self-sustained fusion reaction. He could think, feel, learn, fight, fly, and shoot like the best marksman on earth. Alas, he was not without flawsWhile AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error. The AFF system includes a rigorous and complex abuse control system in order to prevent improper use of the AFF service, and we hope that its deployment indicates a good-faith effort to eliminate any illegal material on the site in a fair and unbiased manner. This abuse control system is run in accordance with the strict guidelines specified above.
