Author's Note: Here's the next chapter and the first battle that Natsuko enters. How will a girl from the future handle an old time battle like this? Please read and review, for my muse, she loves hearing from my readers as that spurs her to give me more to write with.
Chapter Eight.
Natsuko reached the battle field with the rest of her squad and gazed to see a great deal of warriors; she nearly wanted to turn and run away. A hand on her shoulder made her turn and look at whose hand it was. �My Lord!�
�This is your first time in a battle, Natsuko?� Inu no Taisho asked. �Is it not?�
Natsuko nodded as she spoke. �Yes, but I didn�t think there would be so many warriors.�
�How many were you expecting?� He asked with a slight smile on his face.
Natsuko shrugged. �Maybe a hundred, but not the hundreds I see before me, my lord.�
Inu no Taisho glanced at the field of the future battle. �Tomorrow, we will see if the Soga clan will depart without a fight or if they will be fighting. Tonight, we rest.� He turned on his heel and headed for his own tent.
Sakuko walked over to Natsuko. �You best follow his instructions, Natsuko. This will be the last night you may have to sleep for a while.�
Natsuko headed for the tent she shared with forty-nine other female soldiers as another tent held the other fifty males soldiers of her squad. She shared a meal with her fellow soldiers.
After they went to bed, she sat in front of the tent, in the pit of her stomach she wondered if she could do what needed to be done the next day.
�If you don�t, you will die here?� Spoke a voice next to her.
She turned to see the Master Raven sitting there, younger than he was when she saw him in the far future. �What do you mean?�
�You must fight or this place will be your grave.� The young Master Raven stated. �A yokai has no need of humanity or their way of thinking.�
She glanced away from him. �I hold tight to it because it�s the last I have.�
�Then this will be your grave.�
She turned to smack him to find no one there. She leapt to her feet and scanned the night�s sky to find nothing in the air or on the ground. Where she was sitting, the dirt by her side was not disturbed by anything. It was like he was not there at all.

The next morning, she found herself with her squad facing the opposing side as Lord Inu no Taisho and Tenji approached the head of the Soga clan. Her ears heard everything that was stated by them.
�Natsuko, what�s going to happen now?� asked another soldier, looking at her for advice on what was going to be happening next.
�I do not know, I think we will be going into battle soon.� Natsuko stated, as she looked towards the large selection of warriors. She knew the minute it started that she should hang back away from the others and watch before she did anything. Little did she know she was going to play a huge part in the battle.
The Lords went to the middle of the field to see if the Soga clan would drop their claim being the ruler of the land. It was about ten minutes of discussion before the head of the Soga clan just laughed before he rode back to his men.
Natsuko noticed that the Soga clan had archers, which could pose problems for the Yokai. But she knew they would have good targets if they shifted to dog forms, it was the furthest from her mind that she could change forms. She gazed over the other warriors. She whispered. �They have over seventy-five thousand men.�
�Yes, they do and we have to contend with them all if they go into battle.� A female voice stated by her right side.
Natsuko turned to see Sakuko standing there. �Sakuko-san, could it also be possible that they will drop their weapons and leave the field?�
Just as Sakuko was about to speak, an arrow was fired from the Soga warriors and hit one of the soldiers in the other squad and felled the warrior. That squad�s Shogun roared his attack call and soon the battle commenced.
Natsuko hung back as soon as possible and watched the battle. She started to realize that she was not really cut out for actual battle and started to back away when she noticed that another warrior from the Soga clan sneaking up on Inu no Taisho who was occupied with several warriors. Something in her snapped, her fury raged as she raced as fast as she could slicing through any who stood in her path as she charged towards her Lord with her pike raised to protect him. She slammed her pike right into the back of the warrior just as he raised his sword to slay Inu no Taisho while his back was turned. She turned and glared towards the rest of the Soga clan. Her vision turned red as she lunged at them.

Inu no Taisho heard the cry behind him and saw Natsuko with her pike in the back of a Soga warrior and then, she transformed into her dog form and started to attack any Soga warrior that was in her path. He realized that something in her had broken and she was in an attack mode. He yelled, �Sakuko, get her out of here! She�s going to slaughter everyone!�
Sakuko nodded as she figured that the battle pissed her off to the point where anyone could become her enemy. She quickly shifted to dog form and lunged at Natsuko, knocking her flat on her side as warriors scattered as the two giant dogs started to face off with each other. Sakuko knew she got Natsuko�s attention and she smirked as she started to race away from the battle knowing she would follow her, the longer Natsuko ran the quicker the temper she was in would go away.
Sakuko raced over the ground for more than an hour as they were now not too far away from Inu no Taisho�s castle, she stopped and looked back to see Natsuko following her with teeth bared ready to attack. She knew she had to knock her into reality of what she was doing. With one mighty swipe of her paw, sent Natsuko into the waterfall and once there, Sakuko pinned her there till she felt the shake and then the shift happen, before she resumed her human form. �You okay, Natsuko?�
Natsuko looked around confused before she laid eyes on Sakuko. �Sakuko-san, what happened? Why am I here? What happened to the battle? Is Inu no Taisho okay, did I kill the attacker?�
Sakuko was shocked. She didn�t know that she has basically killed most of the Soga clan in her dog form. �What do you remember, Natsuko?�
�I remember stabbing the Soga warrior with my pike and then my vision went red and the next thing I know I�m here,� Natsuko stated, as she looked around to see that she was standing waist deep in water.
Sakuko smiled. �You transformed into your dog form and basically nearly wiped out the entire Soga clan. I lured you away before that happened.�
�So, is that why I am soaking wet?� Natsuko asked, looking at her clothing.
�Yes, I had to cool you down somehow and figured that the waterfall by the castle would work,� Sakuko stated.
�When will the others return?� Natsuko asked, as she climbed out of the water, ringing out the water from her clothes.
Sakuko glanced up at the sky before she turned her attention back to Natsuko. �Tonight at the latest but look for them tomorrow morning as they do have to finish up the battle and hand the rightful title over to the right person before returning home.�
Natsuko looked over at her. �I guess we should return to our squads or the guards at the castle will think we lost, if we showed up now.�
�Nah, they know that one of the soldiers would end up returning early either to prepare the victory party or the funeral for our warriors. They probably will think it is the later as we have not been defeated in a good long time,� Sakuko stated.
Natsuko shook her head. �I think we should return to the others as that way if the Soga clan decides to set up an ambush, they will not be expecting us to come from the other way.�
Sakuko nodded as they headed back through the forest towards where the Asai clan was at. Along the way, they killed four Soga clansmen who were lying in wait to ambush the clan on the return.
Inu no Taisho noticed them approaching. He smiled when he noticed that Natsuko�s gaze was wandering before they would land on him. �Are you calmed down, Natsuko?�
Natsuko bowed to him. �Yes, my lord.� She rose as she pointed behind her. �Four Soga clansmen dead, they were trying to set an ambush for us on the return journey home.�
Inu no Taisho glanced at Sakuko. �She�s right, my lord, we both found them waiting for you and the others to return to slay you all. But they didn�t expect to see us come the other way.�
He looked at them and then glanced to Sakuko. �Send a scout ahead, in case you might have missed one. We will start our return in another few minutes.�
Sakuko nodded as she turned to one of the scouts and made the order. The scout immediately started to run off in the general direction that they had came from.
