First off, Happy New Year! Hope you guys enjoyed your holidays. Hopefully, you didn’t get upset that I was taking so long and stop reading. I know I’m taking a while, but give me a break. I’m in college, and it was the holiday season. Plus, my keyboard was broken and I had to get it fixed. Needless to say, I’ve had a lot going on.
But you’ll be happy to know, it’s gonna start heating up from here. It’s gonna be a slow starting fire. Think of this chapter as when you turn the handle on the stove to start the fire and you hear that clicking noise of the burner trying to start. Just know that it won’t be much longer… With You Chapter Eight The Reunion “You underestimate my memory, Rin.” Rin kept her head down. “Yes, I guess so.” Sesshomaru looked at her curiously. “Is there something wrong?” She looked up, then blushed and lowered her head once more. “No, nothing’s wrong.” * * * * * When Sesshomaru turned to face Rin, she had to lower her head to keep from saying something inappropriate. Sesshomaru’s body was tall and thin, but toned and muscular. Even with the bandages covering his body, he was still an impressive sight to behold. His long white hair spilled over his shoulders, although it was rugged, not flowing like normal. His pale skin was shining in the sunlight, and his golden eyes seemed to shine like miniature suns. As Rin looked at him, she was entranced. She had never seen a more beautiful sight in her life. She felt a longing in her stomach…no, it was lower than that. She didn’t really know what it was, but considering the area she was feeling it in, she knew that it was inappropriate. She tried to ignore it, but that was easier said than done. * * * * * Sesshomaru watched Rin closely. She was still standing still in front of him, head hung in an embarrassing manner. He couldn’t tell what was making her so nervous, but he then lowered his own head and saw his naked chest. “Hmm.” He looked around, and noticed his kimono lying on the floor. He picked it up and pulled it on around his shoulders. Stepping in closer, he reached out with his hand and placed it under her chin, raising her face to look at his. “You can look, Rin.” She smiled. ”Yes, my lord.” She looked at him a little closer. “I’m glad to see that you’re awake.” Sesshomaru cocked an eyebrow. “Did you ever doubt that I would?” She blushed again and shook her head frantically. “No, my lord. I always had faith that you would recover, but there was a small part of me that…” She let her sentence trail off, unsure how he would respond to her wish of him sleeping forever just so she could be by his side. She instead just clutched her bundle of herbs tighter to her chest. * * * * * Sesshomaru watched Rin’s face closely, but it wasn’t the look on her face that disturbed him. It was her scent. She was giving off the unmistakable scent of arousal. It disturbed him, but he just assumed that it was due to his not having his shirt on. He decided to change the subject. “Where are we?” “We’re in a hut, just outside of Inuyasha’s village.” She turned away from him, making her way toward the door. As she walked out in front of him, his gaze fell on her hips and her rear. The kimono was tight, and the motion of her hips seemed like a spell that was beckoning him to grab her and… He took a deep breath and closed his eyes, focusing his mental effort on keeping his mind on track. He silently exhaled, turning his gaze towards the wall. His instinct was telling him to… It didn’t matter what his instinct told him to do. That was the reason he had a mind, to keep his instinct under control. He knew what his instinct was asking of him, but there was no way that he would ever consider anything like that. Rin was a loyal servant, nothing more. And above all, she was human. He was a firm believer that those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it, and he had learned from his father’s mistake. Turning his gaze to look at the back of Rin’s head, he forced his instinct away and began to follow her out of the hut. He squinted and lowered his head away from the sun. He looked at Rin, who was standing next to him. A small breeze had begun to blow, lifting some of her hair from her shoulders. She was standing there, watching the forest. He looked, but could see nothing. As he looked however, a familiar scent wafted into his nose; the scent of everyday human villagers. It was a scent that he had come to know very well, a scent that he had grown to despise. “So Inuyasha’s village is beyond this forest?” “Yes.” “Hmm.” His eyes narrowed. “Rin, if I may ask, how did you manage to bring me here?” Rin turned away. “When we found you out in the forest, Inuyasha carried you to Ah-Un, who carried you here.” Sesshomaru’s head jerked in her direction. “Inuyasha carried me? As in actually carried me?” Rin cringed. “Yes,” she said in a frightened voice. I knew he wouldn’t be happy about that. She looked at him. There was a look of pure disgust on his face. She wished that she could’ve found some other way, but she knew that would’ve been impossible. She looked at him with pure sympathy and regret in her eyes. When he saw this, the look on his face seemed to soften. She could tell that he was still very upset and disturbed that Inuyasha had carried him, but the fact that she was truly sorry seemed to defer his anger away from her for a little while. She wanted to reach out and comfort him. She felt a tugging at her heart, as though someone was reaching through her stomach and had latched onto her heart, pulling it down. She clutched at her chest, unsure of this pain or what it was. * * * * * Inuyasha leaned back against the trunk of the tree. His leg dangled from the branch, swinging silently. He relaxed his body, closed his eyes, and let his mind wander into nothingness. As he sat back, he could smell the different scents as they drifted into his nose. The scents of the villagers, the scents of his family, they were all there as he drifted into a slight doze. Then just as he about to drift away, an all-too familiar scent hit his nose. It was Sesshomaru’s scent. But it was different. Normally, Sesshomaru’s scent was strong. It gave off a certain air that told those unfortunate to smell it that he was not someone to be trifled with. But there was something different about it this time. It seemed…off, like it was distracted. It told Inuyasha that something had Sesshomaru’s mind preoccupied. And there was something else that he could sense, something…. No, that couldn’t be it. Just then, Inuyasha smelled another scent. It was Rin’s, and there was something unmistakable mixed into it as well. Oh, no. You’ve gotta be kidding me. * * * * * Sesshomaru watched as Rin stood next to him watching the forest with a look of worry on her face. He could sense that she was still scared, frightened by his reaction to Inuyasha’s carrying him. “If I could’ve done anything else, I would’ve. I know you’re not fond of Inuyasha, but he was the only other person I could ask. It was either him or one of the villagers.” Rin tried to sound sympathetic and remorseful. Sesshomaru frowned and shook his head in disgust. Just the thought of a human touching him was even more disgusting than the thought of Inuyasha touching him. “I understand. You chose the lesser of two evils.” She nodded, still looking toward the forest. For some reason she still wouldn’t look at him. As he slowly took in her scent, he could still smell a small hint of arousal. I see. She seems to be struggling to keep her composure. He let a small smile cross his lips. He didn’t understand it himself, but he found her attraction to him amusing. Get a hold of yourself. She is human. You will NOT make the same mistake your father did. He quickly turned away from her, trying to clear his mind of the impure thoughts that had begun to plague it. * * * * * Inuyasha hurried toward the hut, the hard ground feeling slippery underneath his feet, although there had been no rain for the last few days. He found himself becoming increasingly worried about what he might find when he got there. Just what in the hell is going on out here? As he got closer to the hut, the two scents began to intertwine, telling Inuyasha that they were standing close together. At least, he hoped they were standing. * * * * * Sesshomaru looked at the sky, trying his best to keep his mind clear. Then, a familiar scent wafted into his nose. It was Inuyasha’s scent, and it seemed…aggravated. He turned in the direction of the scent and, sure enough, saw Inuyasha rushing up the path. “What the hell is going on out here?” Rin looked up. “What do you mean, Inuyasha?” The half-demon was quick as he made his way towards the two. “Whatever happened to letting me know as soon as Sesshomaru was awake?” Rin looked away, as though she were embarrassed. “I’m sorry. I meant to let you know.” “So why didn’t you?” “She said that she intended to. Isn’t that good enough for you?” Inuyasha glared at his brother. “I just want to know why she took so long in telling me that you were awake.” Sesshomaru glared back. “I’d just woken up. She wanted to greet me.” “I see.” Inuyasha turned back to Rin. “So, is everything okay?” She looked at him and then turned back away. “Yes, it’s alright. I don’t know why it wouldn’t be.” Sesshomaru watched Inuyasha as he watched Rin closely. He knew the real reason Inuyasha had hurried back to that hut. He must’ve smelled Rin’s arousal. “Inuyasha, can I talk to you in private?” Sesshomaru turned and began to walk away from Rin. Inuyasha followed him closely. Once he was sure that he had put enough distance between them and Rin, Sesshomaru stopped. He stood with his back facing Inuyasha. “It’s obvious why you came out here, Inuyasha.” His brother’s eyes narrowed. “Well, then I guess that we don’t really have to go through that explanation. Thank goodness.” Sesshomaru continued to face away from Inuyasha. “I was just as surprised as I’m sure you were when I realized that she was experiencing an attraction to me.” Inuyasha’s eyebrow rose. “It wasn’t her arousal that surprised me. It was yours.” Sesshomaru’s head whirled around. “What?” “You heard me. I smelled her attraction to you, which I didn’t really surprising, seeing as how she’s come of age. But then I caught your scent, and it was slightly more aroused than hers was.” Sesshomaru glared. “So what are you suggesting?” “You know what I’m trying to say.” Inuyasha looked at Sesshomaru with a look that begged Sesshomaru to say something he knew the demon never would. “You have feelings for Rin.” “I am…concerned for her safety, I admit.” “No, that’s not all. You have romantic feelings for her, and you know it.” Sesshomaru turned his head away and kept silent. Inuyasha’s face softened. “You don’t have to be ashamed about it, Sesshomaru. I mean, the old man-“ “Died because of his love for your human mother. As far as those in the demon world are concerned, our father died for no reason, with no honor. I cannot- no, I will not experience the same fate.” Sesshomaru’s voice was firm as he tried to maintain his composure. Inuyasha sighed and scratched his head, and then turned away facing the direction of the village. “Listen, man, whatever you decide to do, just know this: that girl cares about you more than anyone else on this earth. Even after never seeing you all these years, she stuck up for you. Stared me down just so that she could nurse you back to health. You may not be willing to acknowledge this, but her loyalty and her heart belong to you, no matter what, and I doubt that will ever change. “But that girl has now also become a part of this village. She’s almost like a member of my family, and therefore, I will not let you hurt her, Sesshomaru, physically or emotionally. She has been too faithful to you, even after all these years, and she doesn’t deserve that. Try to think about that while you convince yourself that admitting you love her is a mistake.” And with that, Inuyasha began to make his way back to the village. As he approached Rin, he turned to her and said, “Dinner should be ready by sundown. I can have Gin bring you some out here if that’s what you want.” The girl nodded, and Inuyasha continued on his way to the village. Sesshomaru was silent as Inuyasha’s words echoed throughout his mind. He was silent as his head turned to face the girl who had pledged her life to him. She stood there, clutching the bundle of herbs that she had intended to use to heal his wounds. He watched her closely, beginning to wonder what it was about him that had caused her to dedicate herself to him so vehemently. Whatever it was, he knew one thing. It wasn’t reason enough for him to do the same. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
