Chapter Eight

Kagome smiled when she saw Emiko enter the room, holding a whimpering pup and she reached out to take her son. It had been two days since her incident and she learned she had been pregnant. She had cried when she learned she lost her child before it even had a chance to really grow. She looked at her son as he smiled at her and bounced happily on her lap while as the same time rubbing his head against her chest. At least one was still alive. She hadn’t seen him since her horrible experience since the healer didn’t want to have the pup in the room in case something happen to her. Today was the first okay she got and so she had asked the eastern lady to bring her son.
“How are you feeling today?” asked Emiko as she passed the pup to his mother.
“Fine” she replied, finally being able to hold her son “I don’t feel any pain anymore”
The demoness smiled “I’m so happy to hear that” she looked around over that the taiyoukai from where he sat next to his female. For the past two days the taiyoukai had not left Kagome’s side. Morning, noon and night, he was always beside her as an ever-watchful watchdog…a very silent one. He had not spoken since learning of the miscarriage that day. It seemed he was taking the loss of his pup hard even if he didn’t show it emotionally. Edoksu had tried to get the western lord to talk, but nearly got his throat ripped out for his troubles. After that everyone felt it best to leave the youkai alone till he was ready. Remembering she had other things to do that day, she stood up “well I have to go, I’ve got some errands to run”
“Okay Emiko” Kagome gave a nod “thanks for bringing Kishi”
“No problem” the demoness smiled “he’s been so upset since you been here that I felt it was the best for him to see you were okay. I’m happy to see you’re doing okay as well, but we’ll talk later, okay?”
“Sounds good to me” she smiled “I’ll talk with you later”
“Okay then, bye” Emiko waved before leaving the room.
Kagome smiled as she touched her son and hugged him close. After a few minutes she looked over to the taiyoukai “Sesshoumaru?”
He merely glanced at her before returning to stare at his spot on the wall.
She frowned. He had barely spoken to her as well about what had happened “are you angry with me?”
“No” he said softly.
She sighed “you stay around here, but ignore me. How can I not think you’re angry with me?”
“I am not angry” he insisted as he looked at her “what reason could I have?”
Immediately she looked down at Kishi and said quietly “because I lost the baby”
He narrowed his eyes and took her chin in his hand, forcing her to look at him “that is not your fault”
“Then why won’t you talk to me?” she asked, sorrowfully.
After a moment of silence he stood from his seat to take a place next to her on the bed and he rested his head on her shoulder “I have merely been thinking”
“Of what?” she wondered.
“Ways to teach our son to kill the toad after he changes” he stated “if he had not said those things then you would not have gotten distressed and still be carrying the pup”
She gave a sad smile as she watched her son bounce on her lap and laugh “I’ve been thinking about it and I don’t want to make this sound wrong, but it probably will anyway… while I’m sad I lost the baby…I’m also kinda happy I didn’t have it”
He lifted his head from her shoulder to stare at her “why?”
“I don’t think I’m quite ready to deal with another child yet” she confessed and looked at him “I don’t think I could handle raising a newborn right now while at the same time raising Kishi. There’s just so much I don’t know about raising a full blood inu child and then I’d be raising another on top of it”
The taiyoukai nuzzled the side of her head “because dreams were not used to create the pup we lost, it would have been hanyou”
“Even still, it would be part youkai” she sighed, “I really don’t think I’m ready to deal with two so close in age. Especially since this is my first time being a mom and I have no clue what I’m doing. At least with a human child I’d know to some extent, but youkai children are so different from human ones. There’s rules and they have certain behaviors” she looked at Kishi as he seem to examine his hands by clenching and unclenching them “you and the others keep mentioning of Kishi changing soon, what did you mean?”
“All pure blooded youkai go through a change” he explained “for a time they take their beast form, which is to be considered their true form. They will do this off and on through their childhood until they find the form they feel most comfortable in”
“You mean Kishi will become a dog” she affirmed “and when he’s older, if he decides he likes that form more than his human appearance, he’ll stay as a dog?”
“That is correct”
“I see” she said and then held her son closer to her “I will accept whatever he chooses just as long as he takes human form once in while so I can talk with him”
Sesshoumaru kissed her temple “as his mother I’m sure he’d be more than willing to comply with your request”
She smiled and leaned closer to the taiyoukai. They sat together in silence before she remembered what Edoksu said Jaken could be for Kishi when he changed “Sesshoumaru, what did Edoksu mean when he said Jaken could be a chew toy for Kishi?”
“When he changes he will have his teeth” he answered “he will be wanting to chew whatever he can get his teeth on to until he is comfortable with them. We often give pups something they can chew on during this time, normally something that moves”
Her eyes widened “you mean something living?”
He gave a nod.
“Why on earth would you do something like that?” she asked, shocked.
“We are predators, Kagome, it is used to encourage hunting behavior,” he explained.
She blinked a few times before giving a nod, staring at her son as he smiled at her and waved his arms towards her “I understand, I…it’s just a little hard to believe that my son will grow up and kill things”
“This isn’t your time,” he reminded “in this era he needs to know how to kill in order to survive”
“I know,” she reasoned, her eyes never leaving that of her son “but still…to see my son become someone capable of killing”
Sesshoumaru held her close “I understand you are uncomfortable with the idea, but just think if he does not know how then he would be killed quite easily”
She frowned, but nodded “I’ll keep that in mind”
“Good” he said “are you hungry?”
“A little” she replied before wondering why she had never thought of it before “why was Jaken here? Shouldn’t he have been in the west?”
Sesshoumaru gave a nod “he was delivering a message from Naylor. It appears my uncle is upset we haven’t been by to visit him yet”
She smiled “then I guess we should go see him soon”

One month later after Kagome had been released from the healer’s room and everyone was sure she was alright, it was decided that the western family would go to the north to visit the northern lord for a short time. It seemed Naylor was becoming impatient and had sent a servant to say such. So they packed up some clothes and Sesshoumaru made sure they had Ah-Un to ride to the north since traveling on foot would have taken up to a week to get there, but by dragon, it only took two days. Now they were at the gates of the northern lords fortress, mother and child on the dragon while the taiyoukai walked along side them.
Kagome eyed the fortress as they passed through the open gates and seeing red flags waving in the wind. She stared at the building they’d be visiting and raised an eyebrow “looks like Edoksu’s fortress, but just different colors”
“It is so others know whose lands they enter” Sesshoumaru answered as they stopped and he helped her off the dragon “and used in times of war to separate friend from foe”
“Makes sense” she said and smiled when she saw Naylor approaching.
“You’ve finally arrived!” he greeted with a large smile on his face “feels like I’ve been waiting forever for you to visit”
Sesshoumaru stared at his uncle with no emotion on his face “your letter made it clear we could not refuse nor wait any longer”
Naylor laughed as he eyed Kishi “well what’s a little threat of battle if it means I get to see my young nephew!”
“Out of my way!” shouted an angry female voice.
Kagome looked to see a female inu youkai that looked to be in her mid 40s’ with short silver hair and golden eyes. The woman was busy pushing soldiers out of her way as she made her way towards them and the miko felt a little nervous that this woman was not going to be pleasant to be around like Emiko was. Suddenly she wanted to see the other inu youkai woman and be around her than this woman. She inched herself closer to her taiyoukai.
Naylor followed the young mother’s nervous gaze and smiled “ah this is my wife, Naomi”
The female snarled as she stood next to her mate and slapped him over the head “how dare you don’t wait for me! I am your mate and lady of these lands! It’s best you remember that!”
“I’m sorry my dear” he apologized as he took one of her hands and gave it a kiss “I got excited”
Naomi looked at the taiyoukai, glared “and you!” she moved to slap him as well, but he caught her hand before it could make contact with his face “you don’t even write a simple letter to let us know what you’re up to or even if you’re alive and you never visit us, ever! Then out of the blue we get a message saying that you’ve had a pup?! Then you don’t even bring him by for us to see?! You have some serious explaining to do!”
“I do not have to explain my self to you” Sesshoumaru replied, emotionlessly.
She snarled, “you’d better change that thinking and quick! I am your elder and I deserve to know what is going on in your life since your mother and father aren’t around!” she then took a deep breath and calmly looked at the young, shaking, woman holding the pup, grabbing the girl’s arm she began to drag her inside the fortress, but she paused and whipped her head to shoot them a nasty glare “we’ll see you men at supper and not before!”
Naylor frowned “yes dear” and watched his mate pull the girl and pup away.
Kagome turned her head to look at Sesshoumaru, fear written plainly on her face. She saw as he just stood there looking like his emotionless self and had to fight with herself not to cry. Why was he letting this cruel woman take her away from him? He was just standing there as she was being dragged to who knows where…and with their son on top of it! Surely he wouldn’t allow them out of his sight like this…yet he was! He just continued to stand there, staring at her, while she could see Naylor speaking to him about something. She watched him until he was out of her sight and nervously followed the female inu.
They walked in silence until Naomi led them to a room. It was a small room, but was comfortable. The walls were painted red while the trimming around the floor and the ceiling were white. The only furniture in the room were a shelf that held some scrolls and some books, plus what looked like a mountain of cushions were settled in the middle of the floor. She then looked at the servants that were cleaning inside “out all of you and one of you bring us some tea”
The servants bowed and immediately left to comply with their lady’s wishes.
Naomi then went over to the cushions and sat herself down on them; she then looked over to the young mother “come sit down next to me”
Kagome, not wanting to face the woman’s anger, complied and sat down close. Kishi voiced his objections at being close to someone he didn’t know and growled.
The northern lady stared at him a moment before a smile broke out on her face and her hand reached out to pinch his cheek “he’s so adorable! Can I hold him?”
“Um, sure” the miko replied nervously and handed her son to the inu. She had to keep from laughing when her son seemed to turn to her and give her a surprised look, almost like saying ‘you’re handing me to this lady?’ he then turned his head, glared, and began growling at the being that held him.
Ignoring the young pup’s growls, Naomi held him close “he looks so much like Sesshoumaru did at his age”
“He does?” Kagome wondered curiously. She had never heard that said before, but she guessed it was because the only people that would have seen Sesshoumaru as a young pup would be those much older than himself. She wondered if Edoksu had ever seen him as a pup, but maybe not, the two looked close in age.
The inu woman cooed over the young pup “oh very much so, except it looks like he doesn’t have Sesshoumaru’s temper” she looked at the young girl “he wouldn’t not allow others to hold him or even come close to him. He made his point that only his mother would be the one to hold him. He’d bite anyone that tried, even when his mother went to pass him off, but thank goodness he didn’t have his teeth yet. However he did use his claws”
Giggling, she tried to picture it “that would have been something to see”
The woman laughed as well “believe me it was, I still got the claw marks. He didn’t hold back when he finally got his claws into someone. He seemed to have natural killing instincts” she turned her head when a servant returned to bring them some green tea “my mate said your name was Kagome and that you named your son Kishi, correct?”
Kagome gave a nod “yes, that’s right”
“Then Kagome, would you like some tea?” she asked.
Smiling, she nodded “I wouldn’t mind some”
After awhile of talking, Kagome felt she had a different opinion on the woman. It seemed that before Naomi was just using her method as a way to get her and her son to herself for a few hours without the interruption of the men. The inu youkai woman turned out to be nicer that she had originally thought and she enjoyed the woman’s company as she heard stories of Sesshoumaru’s youth and told a little about herself. She was having a hard time believing that she had met so many youkai wanting to kill her for being human, even Sesshoumaru himself had once stated he hated humans, but his family seemed totally accepting of humans and seemed to bare no hatred for them.
When it was nearing suppertime a servant came and called them. Together the two women walked down the hall and found the men already waiting for them. Naomi sat next to Naylor while Kagome took her place next to Sesshoumaru. The young miko smiled as she passed Kishi off to a servant so they could entertain him while they ate their meal. Immediately Kishi growled at the servant. He had been okay in the east with those servants since he had spent much time around them, but these ones were strange and he didn’t like them. Without much warning, the pup sank his claws into the servant’s hand causing the woman to almost drop him from the shock and pain. Kagome was quick to react and take her son back, sighing that she hadn’t fully let go of him at that point.
The servant shivered in fear at almost dropping the western heir and began bowing “I’m sorry!”
Kagome gave the woman a comforting smile “it’s alright, I should apologize for him biting you. If he had scratched me I would have been startled as well, are you alright?”
“Yes” she nodded and bowed her head once more “I’m so sorry my lady!”
Naomi smiled “Kagome is right, it’s okay, it was an accident and no one was hurt”
“He’s never clawed at anyone before” Kagome mentioned, “normally he just growls, so I wasn’t really expecting he would actually hurt a person, I’m sorry”
The servant girl looked at her shocked “you have no reason to apologize my lady, I was not being careful”
Sesshoumaru saw his female about to protest and growled slightly “leave it be, Kagome”
She looked at him surprised “but-”
Naylor nodded “he’s right Kagome, it’s alright” he motioned with his hand for the servant to leave “we’ll find another way to keep Kishi occupied”
Kagome looked from the western to the northern lord, unsure of what to say or do, so she stayed silent. After a few moments the food was brought and they seem to settle into comfortable conversation while eating. Kishi remained on her lap, gripping her shirt, but stayed quiet while she ate.
After supper they all continued to converse while Kagome fed her son. When it neared nightfall the taiyoukai and his family were shown to their room to rest. It was a simple room that looked much like the room they stayed in the east just the color of the sheets were different. Instead of green the sheets were red.
Kagome eyed the colored sheets “they really go all out when showing their colors huh?”
“It was exactly the same in our home as well” Sesshoumaru replied.
She frowned, but didn’t say anything as she laid their son down for the night. She felt an arm go around her and pull her gently towards the bed. She didn’t fight him; she knew it would be of no use. She then felt the weight of his head on her shoulder.
“Forgive me for leaving you in that room” he said softly.
Her eyes widened. This wasn’t in a dream, he was asking forgiveness, vocally, outside of a dream and she felt her eyes water. Quickly she turned around and wrapped her arms around him, speaking quietly “I forgive you”

Over the next month, Kagome had gotten to know Naomi better. She learned the woman only had a son and daughter that were busy out exploring the lands and running errands for Naylor. Kishi had become more awake than usual and had more of a temper than he usually had around strangers. He had taken to growling and trying to bite any who held him that wasn’t his mother, though he had come to accept his father holding him on rare occasions. He had on a few occasions tried to bite Naylor and Naomi, which had worried Kagome until Sesshoumaru had explained it was a sign that he would be changing at any time. After that, the only person who held him was his mother and at rare times his father.
Kagome awoke one morning and looked to see that she was in bed alone. She gave a sigh and wondered where Sesshoumaru had gone. She looked over to see that her son was gone as well, confused; she sat up and looked around the room. Seeing nothing she stood up and got her self dressed in a plain yellow kimono with green and orange leafs designed on to the end of the sleeves and bottom of the kimono. Once dressed she decided to go and see where her son had gotten to. She wasn’t too worried since he couldn’t really walk so she assumed Sesshoumaru must have taken him somewhere for whatever reason. She was about to open the shoji door when a terrified scream was heard that she was actually startled from the door. Shaking her head, she opened the door and ran out into the hall, gasping at what she saw.
There before her eyes stood what looked like the shape and size of a large german Shepard, snarling furiously. The only difference was this canine had silver fur instead of the tan and black. To top it off it’s back was to her as its focus was on a terrified servant that was on her knees, cowering against a wall. She didn’t know how she knew, but she could feel it deep down “Kishi!”
The canine stopped snarling and turned his head to look at her. His red eyes showed recognition for a moment before his ears flattened against his head and he began whining as he slowly approached her.
“Kagome!” a male voice called out.
Kagome turned her head to see Naylor approaching with Naomi and Sesshoumaru. Hearing her son starting to growl in anger she held up her hands to stop them from approaching “I wouldn’t come any closer”
Naomi’s eyes widened when she saw the inu youkai behind the young woman “is that Kishi?” she asked in wonder.
“I believe it is” the miko said as she glanced back at the canine.
“You’d believe correctly” Sesshoumaru spoke as he approached. When his son growled at him, his eyes flashed and he snarled back at the pup. The young inu quickly lowered his head in submission. The taiyoukai walked up to his female “now his training will begin”
“Training?” she echoed as she looked up at him.
Naomi smiled, but kept her distance “yes, he’ll be easier to work with now as a canine than he was as a baby. He’ll be easier to socialize while he’s in this form and when he returns to his human appearance his behavior will have improved dramatically”
Kagome looked at her “really?”
Naylor nodded “yes, he’ll be a little easier to control now”
She frowned. She didn’t like the sound of that. Made her think that she had to treat her son like an actual dog instead of her son.
“It will be fine” Sesshoumaru comforted “it will be easier than you think”
“I hope so,” she mumbled to herself.
The taiyoukai looked at his uncle “send for Jaken”
Naylor gave a grin, having heard about what happened in the east “my pleasure” and went to get a servant to fetch the toad that was sitting in their dungeon after having been brought from the eastern home.
Naomi smiled at the woman “come, you must be hungry, let’s get some breakfast”
Feeling her stomach give a small rumble, Kagome smiled and nodded “yeah I do feel hungry” she looked at her son “come here Kishi”
Kishi’s ears perked before he obeyed and followed his mother down the hall and to the dining hall. He growled darkly at Naomi as the two women walked together, but a glare and his mother’s voice saying his name angrily had him whimpering for forgiveness.
During breakfast, Kagome felt she was constantly calling out her son’s name. He would growl at everyone that passed by and had even torn a cushion apart that was meant for sitting on. She sighed as she finished her eggs while catching her son ready to chew at the legs of the table “Kishi!”
He seemed startled and quickly backed away from the table, though he did continue to eye it.
Kagome groaned “I think I preferred him when he couldn’t walk and slept a lot” seeing him go for the leg again she shouted “Kishi!”
Naomi laughed “I felt the same way when my kids went from needing me to carry them to having to watch them every minute to make sure they didn’t destroy something”
“How’d you do it?” she asked.
“Shear determination” the inu youkai replied.
Naylor chuckled “ah yes, so happy those days are over, but yet at the same time I miss it”
“Perhaps I’ll miss it to one day, but for now” she turned her head and glared as she saw her son once again moving to chew the table “Kishi!”
The pup jumped at the mention of his name and looked at his mother as if to say ‘what?’
Naomi only laughed harder while Naylor’s chuckle turned into loud laughter. A knock at the door broke everyone’s attention as a guard came in carrying the toad youkai, bound and gagged, but anyone could see he was afraid.
Kagome couldn’t help it, but she felt over whelming anger towards the toad, something Kishi seemed to have picked up on as he began to growl and snarl viciously at the guard.
Sesshoumaru stood up and approached the guard, taking the toad from his grasp. He then turned to stare at his son as the pup looked at him, still baring his teeth “you may chew on this” without much thought he threw the bound and gagged youkai and returned to his spot next to his female.
Kishi caught the toad in his jaws before setting the traitor down and placing a paw on him as if to keep him from getting away. He then looked at his mother and whimpered before turning his head back to the bound youkai, then back to her.
“How remarkable” said Naylor with wide eyes “I’ve never seen such behavior before”
She looked at the northern lord confused “what do you mean?”
“It’s just, I can’t believe how well behaved he is” Naylor explained, “he shows he is quite intelligent, I don’t think you’ll have a problem training him. He respects his mother very much”
Looking at her son as he continued to lay there, staring at her “why do you say all that?”
“Well most pups when they change are a complete menace,” he said as he smiled “they’ll get into everything and while they’ll never attack their mothers, it doesn’t mean they’ll always listen either at the start” he looked at her “but Kishi seems to hang on your every word and is quite sensitive to your feelings. He’s waiting for you to say it’s okay”
Sesshoumaru turned his head to look at his son “nod your head to show you accept”
Kagome frowned “I don’t accept what you want him to do, but I also want that…creature to pay for stealing my family from me and putting me through all that pain of losing my second child” just the thought of what she’d gone through at the hands of that youkai she glared at him, looked at her son, and nodded. Deep down, though she had told the taiyoukai she was okay with losing their child it did not mean she wasn’t upset that she lost it and while she didn’t condone violence unless to save one’s life, but she couldn’t help the anger she felt towards the small youkai. She turned her head away so she didn’t have to witness what her son was about to do.
Jaken watched as the pup bared his fangs toward him and then began to charge. He gave a muffled scream when he felt teeth in his arm before he was picked up and thrown. He felt himself hit the wall as the pup skidded into him, squishing him into the wall and then felt teeth pierce his flesh once more as he was tossed high into the air only to be caught and shaken up in the pup’s jaws. Wincing he looked towards his master, hoping for a chance to convey through eyesight how truly sorry he was about what he’d done. He honestly felt he was justified in what he had done. By destroying the well the woman couldn’t leave his lord and master or take the heir of the west with her. It seemed that his lord didn’t approve of the way he’d taken care of things without running it by him. Surely his lord would have approved, he now had his heir with him and a mate. What was wrong with that?
Sesshoumaru narrowed his eyes and growled darkly.
Kagome looked at him in surprise not expecting him to growl like he was “is something wrong?”
The taiyoukai said nothing as he stood up and walked towards his pup who growled at him while holding the little toad in his teeth “hold it a moment, son”
Kishi growled, but didn’t seem to make much of a move beyond that.
“Jaken” Sesshoumaru spoke coldly “I can tell by the way your eyes continue to plead to me that you don’t fully understand why this fate has befallen you”
Jaken gave a small nod of his head. He felt he was in the right.
“You acted without my orders,” stated the taiyoukai “you even bragged about your deeds, having my mate over hear you”
At this Kishi snarled and put some pressure down on the toad with his paw until the little youkai gave a cry of pain through the gag.
“My mate was quite upset,” he continued, emotionlessly “so upset in fact, that she lost the pup she was carrying”
Jaken’s eyes widened as he looked at his lord’s mate. She had been with his lord’s second child and lost it?
Kagome glared at him. For some reason she could bring herself to feel no pity for what she was allowing her son to do even though in the end she knew this was going to be the end of the small youkai “now you know Jaken” and she turned her head back to the table.
Sesshoumaru placed a hand on his son’s head “continue”
Without a moment’s hesitation, Kishi was shaking the toad with a fierceness he hadn’t been with before. He threw the toad high in the air and caught him in his teeth as he took a hard bite out of the youkai.
Naomi smiled “not only does he hang on every word he seems to understand the words as well”
The northern lord chuckled “every bit Sesshoumaru’s son” seeing Kagome giving him a confused looked, he laughed, “when he first changed he showed he was quite intelligent as well and seemed to understand his surroundings, though he never waited for his mother’s permission before chewing anything he could get his teeth into”
Kagome had to giggle as she looked at Sesshoumaru. Some how picturing the inu lord as a young, over eager, pup chewing on anything he got a hold of; she found it amusing to think of. She frowned as her mind suddenly jumped to thoughts of her friends. She hadn’t had any communications since her son was born and she suddenly found herself missing them. She had never contacted them and she felt like a horrible friend for never having let them know how things were going.
“Kagome are you alright?” asked Naomi, worried.
She looked at the woman and nodded “yeah, sorry, I was just suddenly thinking of my friends”
“Your friends?” she wondered, a bit confused.
“Yes, they live in Inuyasha forest” she explained “I just realized I haven’t spoken to them in a really long time and I’m just wondering how they’re doing. I’m sure they’re wondering about me as well”
“Perhaps you could write a letter and I’ll send a servant to deliver it” Naomi suggested.
Kagome gave her a bright smile “that would be wonderful!” she looked at the taiyoukai with a worried glance “are you okay with it?”
“They are your friends, do as you wish” he replied.
She smiled “I’ll do it!” and looked back at the inu demoness “thank you”
“It is no problem Kagome” Naomi smiled “anything to help”

The next day Kagome was in a visiting room, using a table and wrote a letter to her friends. In her letter she spoke of her time in the eastern lands and how the lord and lady, plus their son treated her and what they were like. She then spoke of how she was now visiting the northern lord and his mate and what they were like as well; and mentioned of Kishi’s change. She wrote of his personality before he changed and after. Pausing for a moment in her writing, she looked at her son who was calmly sitting beside her while she was busy. She frowned and rubbed his head “I don’t know if I should tell them about Jaken and the losing the baby”
Kishi whined and moved to lick her face.
“I suppose I should tell them of Jaken and what he said” she decided, “they don’t need to know what else happened” she briefly rubbed her head against her son’s “I can always tell them later…when I’m ready”
“How is your letter coming?” asked Naomi as she entered the room.
Kagome turned and looked at her with a smile “almost finished”
Kishi growled at the inu demoness, but stayed near his mother.
Naomi smiled at him “so protective of his mother” she looked at the girl “I’m sure Sesshoumaru is quite proud of him”
“I wouldn’t know” she confessed, “he doesn’t really talk about what’s on his mind too much”
“Well the fact that he even talks to you about anything on his mind shows that he really cares about you” the inu mentioned.
Kagome raised an eye brow “it does?”
“He never tells me what’s on his mind or how he’s feeling” the woman answered as she sat on the other side of the table, much to the pup’s displeasure “even Naylor can’t get him to talk about anything that involves what he’s thinking or feeling”
“Really?” she questioned in surprise “but the way Naylor talked when I came back to the west, it sounded like he actually talked with Sesshoumaru”
She smiled “while he may not talk or show his feelings to us, he is an inu no matter what and it can always give away what we’re feeling, a hint of what we’re thinking, during a time of excitement or strong feelings”
“I had no idea” Kagome spoke as she quickly finished her letter “there done!”
Naomi nodded “I’ll have a servant drop by to pick up the letter from you so they can run it to your friends. Just tell them where they are at and who to ask for; you said Inuyasha’s forest right?”
“Yes” she confirmed.
“Now I’ve never met him, but Inuyasha…wouldn’t that be Sesshoumaru’s half brother?” she asked.
She nodded “it is, I used to travel with him and a few others”
“A monk, a slayer and her fire cat, and a young kitsune” Naomi listed “am I right?” at the girl’s surprised nod, she laughed, “you’re shocked how I know, are you? Well every youkai of high rank has learned of you and your friends, but I didn’t think you were the miko. I was told the miko dressed strangely”
Kagome blushed “yes I did, but I’ve now taken to blending in than standing out”
The elder woman laughed, “I think you’ll stand out no matter what you do. You’re just that kind of girl” she then looked around the room “where’s Jaken?”
“From what Sesshoumaru told me, he has been torn beyond recognition,” she explained “I guess after Kishi learned why we gave him Jaken, he chewed him with a little more excitement than he had before. What’s left of Jaken, Sesshoumaru used his acid to destroy so his son wouldn’t eat it”
“I guess that means we’ll have to get something else for him to chew on” Naomi guessed as she watched him, sitting beside his mother “he seems so much calmer than yesterday”
The miko nodded “he is, I haven’t had to stop him a lot from chewing on anything”
“I just can’t get over how well behaved he is” the northern lady confessed “a pup isn’t normally this well behaved until his second or third transformation”
“How many times will he change?” she asked.
Naomi shrugged “that depends on him. He will change off and on until he is sure what form he likes best. He will for sure change one more time”
“Okay” she said, looking at her son and stroking his fur “how long will he spend like this each time?”
“Again, that depends on him” she explained “but his first time it will be a year…maybe two or more. He has to learn to change between forms”
Over the next few weeks, Kagome sent and received letters from her friends. They were more than happy to hear from her and told her of how Sesshoumaru had come to them ready to kill. They had worried about her and what had happened, but hearing that she was safe and all was well; they felt relieved. She didn’t tell them much of what happened just that the matter had been settled and all was well between her and the taiyoukai. She told them of her son and what she had called them, also explaining about him changing and how protective he was of her. They had replied that they wanted to see her whenever she could find time to.
That had given her pause and she had gathered up the courage to ask Sesshoumaru if she could visit her friends some day. He had said it was fine, but she knew he didn’t like the idea of her going where his brother was. Though he said nothing, she knew that deep down, he felt threatened by his brother and her emotions for him. So, to show he would have no reason to doubt her or worry she’d stay with Inuyasha, she had told him she wanted him to come with her. He had insisted they were her friends and he wanted nothing to do with them, but she had simply replied that if she was his mate; she wanted him to come with her at a way to prove to her friends that everything was all right. He had been silent, but had eventually agreed. It was decided that when Kishi took human form again that they would visit her friends then. She had been quick to write a letter to tell her friends what the deal was and they were more than happy to wait till then to see her.

The next few months passed by uneventful. Sesshoumaru had received word on the construction of his fortress and when he had returned from seeing it, he had declared that it was suitable to live in. Word was sent to Naylor so he could tell the servants he had kept safe there that they could return to the west to serve their lord once more. Once all of that was taken care of Sesshoumaru gathered up his family and, after saying goodbye to Naomi and Naylor, they returned to the west. It was during the journey that Kagome had wondered why the southern lord had never extended an invitation to visit him or that he had never bothered to visit them. The taiyoukai had explained that Sanji was not one anyone wanted to get close to. The southern lord did not concern himself with anything that did not involve him.

Kagome spent another few months getting used to being in the west once again and using the time to get use to walking around the fortress. Kishi joined her on her walks around the home and joined Sesshoumaru for lunch in his study. It had taken some work, but the young pup was now more accepting of the taiyoukai being near him and his mother and no longer snapped at servants. Their son was given his own room, but being unused to sleeping alone he often snuck to sleep in his parent’s room. The young mother was surprised that Sesshoumaru had allowed such a thing, but after awhile had made it clear that he was tired of the nightly interruptions and made it apparent to their son that it was time for it to stop. For the first month the young pup could be heard whimpering and occasionally howling through the night until Kagome started staying with him until he fell asleep.

I am hoping to publish a real story, but first I need your comments about my fan based stories to know if my writing method needs some work before I get started writing this story I have in mind.
