Disclaimer: I unfortunately do not own Inuyasha even thought I'd like to and well, I stay as penniless as before this story as I won't even a single penny out of this |
Whohoooooo thank you for all those reviews!!!!!!!
@ladytokyo: You were late for work??? O_O whoa… I’m sorry >__< (but I feel somehow honored xD) @SoSickOfNyQuil : Congrats on longest review so far xDDD it really made my day! You seem to put a lot of thoughts into your reading J… (btw. This fic IS Sesshomaru-centric.) @ajj7sunhawk: You disappoint me. Please read my answer at the end of the chapter, I don’t want to hinder my other readers to read my story. btw: as soon as I'll have finished the story I'll add a chapter with longer notes (or stuff that would give away the story) about unclear stuff so if you don't understand something, ask in the reviews and maybe (if it's not revealed later on in the story) I'll answer those then. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ When dawn came Sesshomaru clearly heard the amelioration in his brother’s breathing and relaxed a bit. He was still sitting where he had taken up his position to keep watch and only now allowed himself to stand up and walk away. As he stood in the kitchen, he put up a kettle with water for tea before he shortly went to his room to change his clothes. From afar he could hear the water running in the bathroom, proof that his brother was up and apparently again in a state to move around freely. Just as the youkai finished pouring the hot water over the tea leaves, his brother stepped into the kitchen, bringing with him a fresh scent of neutral soap and clean water. To Sesshomaru’s surprise, the hanyou was clad in western clothes, hiding his scrawny arms in a beige turtleneck sweater and wearing washed out, light blue jeans, a combination he had never worn before in front of him, either moving around the house in his kimonos or wearing loose, soft linen clothes when going down to the beach. While his hands were occupied with tying up his hair in a high ponytail, Inuyasha carefully held some more hair-bands between his lips, looking at his elder brother with eyes hat seemed only bigger with the darkened rings underneath. “Thanks.”, he mumbled after finishing his hairdo, suddenly avoiding his brother’s eyes. Sesshomaru felt like smiling at him. Although his younger brother had now almost the same hairstyle as their late father, they did not really look similar, for the daiyoukai had been a much more impressive sight but Sesshomaru decided that he preferred Inuyasha with his ethereal and almost feminine looks right then. In silence they drank their tea, enjoying the calm of the morning after what had been a rather tormented night. The youkai knew that the hanyou had meant more than just thanking him for brewing tea but didn’t want to disturb what would be their last meeting for some time with such a topic. Inuyasha sighed softly after finishing his cup and closed his eyes, changing his appearance to human-like. “I’ve got to… pack my stuff.” The youkai nodded and looked after his younger brother disappearing back into his room from where he emerged after some rummaging with a sports bag. He watched him tidy up some of his things, like putting away his laptop and only taking his two recently begun notebooks with him. Inuyasha seemed to have a bit of routine in making his house ready for a longer absence, working with efficacy and only doing the minimum, as if he knew what was too much of a tidying job and what needed to be done. After freezing the rests of the last dinner, he stood there in the middle of his work room with nothing to do and looked around him. Their eyes met but the hanyou looked away, as if he had something to hide. “Sooo… when will your… friend be here?” “Maybe ten minutes? He’ll phone me as soon as he’s before the door.” “Oh. Where are you going?” “That, I can’t tell you.” “Why?” “… everybody has secrets, good ones and bad ones… and gray ones… maybe one day I’ll tell you and will both laugh about it but right now… it’s a twilight zone between good and bad, hope and despair… it’s a hurdle I have to jump myself and if you are with me… or if you were to come… I would rely on you and lose…” “Lose to what or to whom?” “… to myself.” “Why are you making an enemy out of yourself?” “I am not… I am but fighting fate.” “It’s impossible to overcome fate, Inuyasha…” “Maybe… if I don’t try, I won’t know.” Just as Sesshomaru wanted to reply something, the phone rang and the hanyou exchange a few words with the unknown friend of his. As he hung up, he looked at his brother and said: “Well then, I’ve got to go now…” Sesshomaru followed him out of the house and watched him close the door as if each movement of the hanyou was something incredibly precious. As Inuyasha turned around, they were face to face, or rather face to chest, since Inuyasha had to crane his neck back to look into his brother’s eyes. The beast within Sesshomaru tugged at his heart, trying to seduce him into keeping his brother close by force but the hanyou already made a step back and said with a sad smile: “See you…” “I hope you come back soon.” “Yeah, I hope so too…” The expression on Inuyasha’s face as he spoke those words like someone who makes a wish while knowing that that wish would probably never come true froze the elder brother all the way into his soul with something like a bad premonition. As he watched him turn around, his hair moving like a piece of night in plain daylight, a thought went through Sesshomaru’s mind and in a desperate attempt to stop his fears to come true, his strong hand closed around the thin and fragile wrist of his younger brother. The hanyou had an expression of surprise as he found himself held against the chest of his elder brother, caged safely in those arms that had threatened him so many times before. The moon white hair flowed around them, creating a safe cavern for Inuyasha’s head. The deadly claws didn’t even graze his skin even if the youkai’s grip was powerful, holding Inuyasha’s head over the spot where Sesshomaru’s heart was. “Sesshomaru…?” Sesshomaru didn’t answer, just tightened his embrace even more. With a slightly pained expression Inuyasha said breathlessly: “I… can’t breathe… you’re too… strong.” The arms loosened their hold on him a little bit while still caging him completely and Inuyasha sighed of relief. “Sesshomaru?” After a while of being immobile, Inuyasha sighed softly and enlaced his brother as well, rubbing his back softly as if to comfort a child. “Yare yare Sesshomaru…” The youkai’s voice sounded strangely husky as he finally spoke out: “I… I had the feeling you were going to disappear forever…” On the astonished expression followed an endearing smile and Inuyasha snuggled up against him. Then, he patted him against the back and when Sesshomaru let go of him, so as to let the hanyou see his face. Inuyasha, to the youkai’s surprise, patted his head like he would have patted a dog and said in tone between being annoyed, amused and comforting: “Silly, I won’t just disappear…” Sesshomaru just looked at him, somehow still not satisfied. The younger brother noticed it and after a bit of searching in his pockets, got his key bundle out. He quickly pulled off a key and held it against his brother’s chest. “Here, I forgot. I need someone to water the plants.” “But there aren’t any pl-…” “Ok? You can water the plants for me. This is the only spare key I have so I’ll have to come and get it, ok? I WILL come back to get it.” Suddenly Sesshomaru understood and said with a jokingly snarky voice: “And you expect me, Sesshomaru, to be a mere gardener for a hanyou?” His younger brother answered while menacing him with his index: “No more dinner if a single plant dies.” “Hai, hai.” “Well then, I’m going.” “Ah, yes. Have a safe trip.” The smiles they exchanged this time were still not the brightest but they were heartfelt and the image of his younger brother truly smiling at him for the first time would sooth Sesshomaru for the interminable months of his absence a tiny little bit. Sesshomaru often went to the house and wandered aimlessly around, seeking his brother’s presence in the empty rooms, on the windy beach or under the trees. Not even the books could calm him down; they even made his yearning grow with each word as Sesshomaru could hear the hanyou’s voice whisper the stories into his soul as if he was always around him. Months passed by at the pace of a snail and Sesshomaru had lost count of the evenings and nights he had spent lying on his back in the work room, the books his brother had read piled around him and the echo of his voice trying out the sound of his sentences still filled every corner, giving the youkai the illusion that if he closed his eyes and reopened them, he would see his brother’s back hiding the glow of his laptop and the soft clattering of keys would fill his ears. But each time his golden irises looked around, a sigh would escape his lips and destroy the illusion. The cherry trees bloomed and gave spring a wonderful farewell before the song of the cicadas announced summer. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ @ajj7sunhawk: I thought you were a more sensible person. “Bashing” and other stuff as an answer to a twist in my plot that you don’t like is childish. If you haven’t noticed it so far, Inuyasha is NOT well (no, it’s not a trick to make him look more uke-ish) and if you don’t like that and only want to read about a happy, healthy hanyou, then please search for another story. I really want to emphasize the point that yes, Sesshomaru and Inuyasha ARE mortal, so it’s NOT a question IF they will die or not, the question is just: WHEN? WHERE? HOW/WHY? And: WILL IT HAPPEN DURING MY FIC? I will NOT give away anything about the ending. I have an ending ready but as I let my stories grow themselves, tomorrow I might change the ending completely so I will change the codes accordingly or maybe even not, just to keep the suspense whole. If you haven’t noticed it, it is ANGST = torment, anguish… so it’s NOT HAPPY… But just to reassure you: I still have quite a bit to go in my story so there’s nobody dying off soon… I still have to put in the smut so you can read on for a while ^^While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
