Kagome held Rin's hand as they walked into a small human village just over the western border in the South. Sesshomaru had told her that he was sending a message to the Demon Lord of the south to let him know she and Rin were going to be in the South for a while, to make sure that the demons in the South knew not to touch them.

She was pleased that he let her leave, but the sad eyes and gentle sniffles of the little girl next to her broke her heart. And she could not deny that she missed him as well. "Cheer up Rin. We told you that we will all see each other again. But with everything going on this is what is best for all of us."

"I know." Rin clung to Kagome as she barely looked up at the gawking faces of all the people of the village. "I just don't trust people other than you Kagome. It was people that killed my parents. It was people that abused me until I found him. I didn't want to leave..............................."

Picking the little girl up Kagome hugged her as she made her way toward the largest house of the village. "I know honey. But I know who is the Headmaster of this village and I know he is a good person. I trust him. Can you do that for me?"

"I will try."

Hearing the doors swing open Kagome looked up to see Hojo with extra wide eyes come racing out toward her. "Hey Hojo."

Stopping just in front of her his eyes were full of worry. "I had went to tell you that I was named headmaster, and when I got there, everyone was gone. Inuyasha, Miroku, Sango, Kirara. Shippo wasn't even anywhere in sight. I was so worried about you! What happened?"

Tears misted over her eyes as she looked down. She couldn't tell him the truth right then. She didn't know if she ever wanted to tell him the truth. 'No. That wouldn't be a good thing. I doubt anyone here would be willing to keep a secret from Rin. And it wasn't really his fault anyway.' "Alot has happened Hojo. Can we go inside and then I will tell you."

Stepping aside he let Kagome and the girl walk in ahead of him. "Of course." Once inside he lead them around to a small garden. He then looked at the little girl as Kagome put her down. "There are som other little girls around her somewhere if you wanted to play with them."

Shaking her head Rin tightened her hold on Kagome. "No."

Kagome sighed. "Rin I need to talk to Hojo for a moment alone okay. Look, you liked to look at the Koi ponds with Sesshomaru right? Go see if Hojo has any of the same colors."

"Okay."

When Kagome turned to look back at Hojo she saw his wide eyes. "Oh don't give me that! Just sit down and I will explain." ONce they were both on the bench she never took her eyes off Rin and how she laid down looking at the fish but not so much as a smile. "Not long after Naraku was killed, I turned Inuyasha human, but Kikyo still persuaded him to go to hell with her. I didn't want to be a third wheel for Sango and Miroku so I left. A few days later I came across Rin and Sesshomaru. Rin begged me to go with her and he didn't care. That since his brother was dead and I wouldn't be a meddler there that he had nothing against me anymore. And said Rin would need a human companion as well. Well one thing went to another and he said he was forming a bond. I tried it, even making it official for him. But nothing was there for me. So he let me leave and sent Rin with me. I don't know anyone else that wouldn't die in a few weeks so I came here. Can we stay for a while?"

Pulling Kagome into his arms Hojo sighed. "I am sorry Kagome! To have lost everyone then the demon..........."

Kagome pushed out of his arms and glared at him through tear filled eyes. "Let me make one thing clear Hojo. Sesshomaru is a demon yes, but he is kind and caring about me and Rin. Just because there was nothing there for me doesn't mean that it wasn't there for him and I won't stay here unless you swear that you won't tell a soul anything and never refer to Sesshomaru in a negative light in front of me or her. He could have forced me to stay with the bond he was forming with me to mate with me. But he let me leave. That shows he has empathy."

Holding his hands up Hojo sighed. "I swear it. I didn't mean it in the way you jumped too. I was going to say the demon that fell for you but you couldn't him, it had to have been hard knowing that someone felt for you and you couldn't them."

Kagome sighed as she dropped her head. "Yeah. I mean, he was kind to me and I did get close to him in the time I was with him, but it wasn't like a lover or a mate. It is hard to explain." 'I do love the bastard, i realize that now that I am gone. I guess I was pulled into it more than I thought. But I can't go through life knowing I am with someone who raped me for my first time. I can't!'

Standing and holding his hand out to her he helped Kagome to her feet once more. "Get the girl and I will show you to your room. I assume she won't stay in her own room huh?"

"No. She won't leave my side for a long time." Kagome then turned and smiled. "Come on Rin. He is going to show us to our room. We are going to stay here for a while."

Rin was instantly at Kagome's side, clinging to her again. 'I wanna go home.'

Kimi rushed through the woods just south of her son's palace. Word had reached her that he was sent spiraling out of control after he let his human mate and Rin leave the palace! 'How could he let that wench take Rin!?' But when she got to the clearing and saw him she gasped. His momoko was shredded into a thousand pieces, that look in his eyes when he turned on her. "Sesshomaru?"

With a glare in his eyes Sesshomaru growled. "Go away."

"You knew this would happen so why?"

"My reasons are my own. I let her leave, I will deal with him."

With a sigh she dropped her head. "If you don't go get her then he is going to kill you trying to force you."

"If that is what it takes."

"Fine. Let him kill you then! I am going to find her myself and get Rin." Kimi started to turn but instead found herself pinned to the ground by her own son. His hand around her neck. "Sesshomaru!"

His eyes fully crimson he growled into his mother's face. "Rin is where I want her. Don't get near her or my mother or not I will rip you apart."

Fear coursed through her as she waited breathlessly for her son to let go of her neck and move away from her. Shaking she slowly stood. "I won't then." Then she turned and slowly walked until she was out of sight then took off in a mad dash for the palace, leaping over the wall only to fall to her knees as tears streamed from her eyes. "What has he done?"
