Her eyes widening, staring at the tree covered sky. No clouds in existence. Stopping in her twirl, she paused as she focused on an object. A shiny object hidden in the tree above her. Wasting no time, she raced to the tree and began to climb up quickly - feeling even more alive now since she drank from the mysterious lake.
Grabbing onto the top branch, she grinned as she slowly approached the shiny object that had caught her eye. Reaching it, she snatch the small thing into her hand and quickly made haste back to the ground. Sitting against the trunk, she opened her palm and froze…
A locket in her hand.
A locket long forgotten.
A memory now faded.
“Have you tried slapping him?”
Blinking at the audacity of even considering hitting their fallen comrade, Naraku shook his head and quickly ran his palm against his face. Trying to wipe away the tension in his muscles. “We can’t just slap a person in a coma, Bankotsu.”
“Yeah you can.” Bank smiled. “It’s simple. You take your palm, open it, and hit the cheek of the other person. Simple steps.”
“I think what he means is we are not slapping Inuyasha!” Kagome finally budded in. “That’s just wrong!”
“But he might be able to wake up from that sleep that whatever this island put him in! Who knows, a slap might actually save his life!” Bank argued.
“It’s still wrong!” Kagome stated once more. Looking past him to see Sesshomaru, she quickly shouted out. “Sesshomaru-san, please tell this baka that slapping Inuyasha is a bad idea.”
Looking back to see the commotion, Sesshomaru took in a deep breath than released it slowly. He just finished coming from the tent to check up on his brother. It had now been almost two weeks since the last full moon, and two weeks before that since Inuyasha fell into this comatose state. Walking back in, he found his brother still in the same position he had left him in.
Stepping closer to him, he sighed and hoped for the best.
Smack!
“Sesshomaru-san! Did you slap Inuyasha?” Kagome shouted out, making her way to the tent after hearing the very loud smack that echoed around their camp.
Suddenly, without a moment to spare, Inuyasha began to groan followed by opening his eyes and looking around. Smirking, Sesshomaru had to admit that Bankotsu truly did have some good ideas. But he will never say it out loud.
Before he could even help his brother up, Kagome rushed inside ready to do whatever she could against a yokai for slapping a sick person. But she froze the second she saw Inuyasha waking up and moving his arm slowly to touch his sore cheek.
“Oh my god. It worked.” She said, shocked that the action would even work at all.
Stepping in behind her, Bank grinned. “Of course it worked, because he wasn’t exactly in a coma. Or not a real one to be precise.”
“And if it hadn’t of worked?” Kagome glared, looking at both the two men in the tent.
“Than he would have a slap on his cheek.” Sesshomaru finally replied, looking down at his brother who was trying to make sense of everything around him. “Morning, Inuyasha.”
Groaning, the hanyou finally lifted up from the ground and tried with all his might to stretch out his stiff muscles. “How long have I been out?” He asked, not wanting a real answer in all honesty.
“A month, probably. It has been a few weeks.” Bankotsu answered.
“A month?” He exclaimed, feeling even more shocked about everything. He thought he was out for probably a couple days the most. Rubbing his temples, he cleared his dry throat and finally spoke up. “What happened exactly?”
“There was a black shadow, and it got inside you. You were the only one that didn’t wake up.” Kagome replied back in a soft voice.
“Who else was out with me?”
“Me and Risa.” Kagome informed. “We are both alright, but the night we were out and woke up, there was a shadowy figure and suddenly it vanished.”
Shaking his head with a sigh, he suddenly remembered all the nightmares and memories he suffered while asleep. “Akito.” He whispered out, filling the name itself with nothing but hatred and vengenance.
“Akito?” Sesshomaru asked, curious at the strange name.
“Ah, yeah that’s right.” Inuyasha sighed once more, preparing himself for the mental anguish he was about to display on informing his friends about the mystery fuck head on the island. “His name is Akito. That shadow thing, and probably the cause of us landing here too.” He finished off, not wanting to mention the fact that Akito was actually wanting Kagome.
“Has he said what he wants?” Kagome asked, too afraid of the answer.
“Yeah. He wants us all dead.”
“Yeah, he can’t keep on trying. That bastard isn’t going to get so lucky. Once we find a way off this island, we are out of here and that lunatic ghost will rot here for eternity.” Bank stated, crossing his arms over his bare chest.
Meanwhile, outside the tent, Naraku listened carefully at the group inside while adding more wood to the camp fire. He was thankful that Inuyasha was finally but the mention of Akito’s name brought chills up his spine. He couldn’t let this go any further. Those visions with the same name Akito couldn’t be a coincidence.
Dropping the last wood into the flames, he made his way into the tent and watched as all the eyes inside turned towards him. Looking at each of them, he nodded than looked over to Inuyasha. “You mentioned a name - Akito?”
Nodding, the hanyou cocked a brow in interest. “You know something?”
“I think his sister and father are on the island.”
Tobacco. He needed tobacco very badly. A inhale of that deadly stick into his lungs would most certainly make his mind go at ease the second he exhaled the fumes and savored the nicotine. He truly needed a nice cigarette, especially for this particular moment.
Sitting around the camp fire, the sun making it’s way down, the entire gang waited patiently for him to reply back to Naraku’s information. He had still yet to state his opinion about all of this. Right now, all Bankotsu wanted to do was just kill his lungs away and have someone else lead. He never asked to be put in this position, but no one else was capable enough.
Everyone lost someone on that cruise - except for Naraku. Cocking a brow, he decided to ask that very question. “Why were you on the cruise?”
“Why are you changing the topic?” Naraku replied back.
“Because I am curious. Every one of us here have lost someone on that cruise, except for me and Jak. You are the only one who hasn’t lost anyone.” Bank tilted his head while he continued to gaze in suspicion at the member of their group. “Were you in charge of making the ship crash? Because I mean, how convenient is it that you finally know of this Akito person and even know of his sister and father on the island? No one has been able to sense anyone else’s presence but our own. Are you responsible for this? Huh?”
“You’re accusing me now.” Naraku just chuckled and shook his head at the audacity of what he was hearing from the male. “If I wanted to torture someone, I wouldn’t send them to an island with things that fuck with their mind. I’m more of a personal-in-your-face type guy.”
Laughing and shaking his head, Bank didn’t want to believe the hanyou for a second. “Nah, you’re lying. I just know it.”
“Bank-”
“Shut it Jak! I’m going to get answers, and the only one capable of providing them is the one who brought us here in the first place!” Bankotsu snarled out.
“You have got to be joking? Naraku didn’t bring us here!” Kagome spoke up.
“Shut it whore!”
Suddenly, without a a second to realize what was happening, Naraku tackled Bankotsu to the ground and pressed both hands to his shoulders to pin him down. “Why don’t you calm the fuck down and realize right now you are not yourself!”
“Fuck off!”
“Bank! He’s right! Your eyes are black!” Jak finally cried out.
Frozen, Bank didn’t budge as he heard his brother’s words. Swallowing, he finally looked around to see what was going on. Where did all that anger come from? Why was he blaming Naraku for their crash landing to this dreadful island?
What was going on?
Looking closely, Naraku finally took notice of the look in Bank’s eyes. Realization was finally coming to sense, and the blackness faded. Getting off him, he sat back in his spot and waited for Bank to say something. Everyone waited for him to speak.
“I’m sorry.” He whispered, looking over to Kagome than Naraku. “I didn’t mean any of that.”
“We know. It’s alright.” Kagome smiled.
“Now, if you’re done, let me explain everything to you.” Naraku stated, giving a slight bow in acceptance to Bank’s apology. “A few weeks ago, right after Inuyasha was in that coma and Risa and Kagome woke up - I saw a girl on the island. Her name is Mika, and she looks very weak and frail, almost lifeless. But she doesn’t smell of the dead.”
Furrowing his brows, Bank sat back in his spot and continued to look over at Naraku. “Did she say anything?”
“Yeah. She plays with your mind. The moments I have seen her, it’s like she pausing time and will make you see things and believe they are real. It’s like a hallucination but everything feels too real. I’ve seen her twice, and the first time I caught her scent - but it’s only been her scent. When others are around, I can’t smell them.”
“Her first visit, she warned me about the ocean’s water, on how it’s poisonous and we will all die the longer we keep near it. The fish are contaminated.” He looked up to see everyone’s look of fright. “I am not sure if what she says is truth or not, but she also says it gives us hallucinations. I figured that was a hallucination, especially when after she leaves, I’m back doing what I was doing before she made herself noticed.” He finished off.
“What about the second visit?” Bank asked, trying to gather all the information he can about this mysterious habitant on the island.
“She came to me as a different person.” He paused, not wanting to state that the girl came as Bank all nude and how they were about to fuck. Instead, he twisted the truth a bit to leave that specific part out. “She came to me as you, Bankotsu.”
Laughing, Bank couldn’t believe this. “Are you sure you know this girl exists? This sounds like a nightmare you probably are having.”
“But the name Akito was mentioned from both Inuyasha and Naraku - and Inuyasha wasn’t awake yet to let Naraku know who this Akito person is.” Sango mentioned.
“Fine. Continue.” Bank stated, just wanting this topic to end and the Goosebumps on his skin to be gone. This was starting to creep him out too much.
Swallowing hard, Naraku looked around and sighed. “I asked about your scars, and the answer I received was because you were tortured. You got captured by a big shot gangster who was looking for your father who abandoned you. The scars were made by-”
“A three-bladed claw.” Bank finished off in a ghost like voice. “Carving me like some body canvas. I never told anyone that. How did she know this?”
“I don’t know.” Naraku answered back.
Suddenly, silence was all that could be heard besides the fire crackling before them. It was Sesshomaru’s turn to finally speak up. “Since no one wants to speak, may I ask the question that seems to be bothering us all. Who are we dealing with, precisely?”
“I don’t know.” Naraku and Inuyasha both answered in unison.
“Well whoever this bitch is, she picked the wrong fucking crowd to fuck with.” Bankotsu answered, rising up onto his feet and heading into the tent.
“No!” A ghost-like shout echoed in the jungle.
Chills played across her skin in fright as she felt the familiar presence of her brother. Frowning, Mika quickly turned her attention over to her tied up father and raced over to him. “Otousan! It’s terrible! Brother has returned without the survivors!”
Tears welting in her eyes, she touched her father’s fragile face and tried to clean it from the dirt that began to build up on it. As usual, the poor man was unable to speak or move much by himself without the help of another. It was heartbreaking for her to see, but she refused to lose hope.
“I will have to leave you father. I will have to bring them here on the night of the full moon.” She sniffled, trying her hardest to keep her bearings in check. “Akito!” She cried out, turning away from her father. Tears cascading down her cheeks. “Akito! Come to me!”
The wind began to pick up at her pleads, her hair whipping harshly around her. Dirt picking up along with the harsh wind, hitting against her skin roughly. Finally, it died down and standing before her as the leaves of began to fall like rain was the one person she never thought she’d see.
Standing hunch over, short black hair shielding his face and his clothes nothing more than dirty rags covering his body was Akito. The pure essence of the island, and the lost soul of Mika’s brother - Totsu. Lifting into a straighter posture, Akito turned his attention to Mika and the tied up man against the large tree. Frowning in anger, he walked over to the girl and clutched onto her throat and snarled. “What happened?”
Tears welting up in her eyes, she shut them for fear of the true enemy. Akito. How could something so vile rip apart her family, and kill her brother only to take his body as his own and use it to his own doing? The only thing she wanted was to remember her loving brother how he once was; and not like the thing that took over him. Sniffling, she cried out. “I don’t know! They were to fight like you have said! I told the man secrets that only I can see because of the power you gave me! I don’t know what happened!” She confessed.
“That isn’t good enough! They rejoiced and know who we are! Inuyasha is to not have any memories of our time together when he was asleep, but he remembers! Explain that you stupid bitch!” Akito growled out, tightening his hold on her throat.
Feeling the air leaving her body, she clutched onto his wrist and tried to pull away. It was useless against him. Crying out, she continued to defend her previous statement.
Tossing her to the ground, he stepped over her body and kneeled beside her to grab the neck of her dress and pull her up. “Open your eyes, Mika.” He demanded.
She shook her head. “No. I can’t.”
“Open them!” He growled out, tightening his fist in her dress.
She gave in and opened her eyes, and felt her stomach tighten and her heart break all over again. Staring right at her was the unforgettable black hollow eyes and her brother’s face. Tears falling, she sniffled and whispered out. “I don’t know what happen, Master.”
“That’s not good enough!” Akito shouted out, pulling her closer to his face. “You want your family back, than bring them here! Or I will kill you father next.” Pushing her back to the ground, he stood up and looked up to the midnight sky. Breathing heavily, he ignored the cries of the girl behind and began to focus on something else.
For twenty years, Mika felt herself relive that dreadful night. She felt fear all over again. For twenty years, she has been stuck on this island and instead of aging, she, her brother and father never aged. In fact, the only one who stayed their same age was her father. Totsu and Mika aged back until they were teenagers, and lost all memories of the life they once had.
Her memory of that night of crashing on this island was played over and over, and she knew it was because of Akito. She knew it was him playing that night over in her head. The only way she was to live and protect her brother and father was to kill the other survivors.
There were only ten of them.
It is always ten.
Tears falling, Mika finally looked up to see her brother’s body turning around to stare back at her. Those terrible black eyes looking straight through her. “What do you want me to do?” She asked in fright.
Smirking, Akito chuckled darkly and cocked a brow. “We are going to play a game, Mika. And you’re the pawn.”
Sorry for the short chapter. But it seems right to stop it here.
Next Chapter: Another walker comes to play affecting Sango. Mika makes another attempt to turn the gang against each other. Kagome tries with all her might to get her powers back but instead has a threat to face from someone she can't win against.
