They got in the car together and began the ride back to the shrine. Kagome scooted close to InuYasha and leaned her head against his shoulder.
"Kagome, not like I mind or anything, but why did you lie to him?" InuYasha asked. "I mean we decided to go today specifically because your family wasn't going to be home. We didn't know how long it was going take, and you didn't want them to worry."
"I just wanted to go home is all," she replied quietly.
InuYasha sensed that she didn't want to say anymore, so he decided not to press her further and risk upsetting her. He knew that she would tell him what was really bothering her when she was ready.

By the time they got back the shrine Kagome had made up her mind. She would let him go, but not before she had just one thing for herself. She unlocked the door and let them in through the kitchen.
"Are you hungry?" he asked. "I could make you something."
She was surprised as much by his offer as she had been that he had not tried to force her to talk to him. She wondered if maybe he was being so nice because he had already decided that he had to go back and he wanted her to remember him this way.
Kagome shook her head. "I think I just want to go lie down. With everything we found out today I am kind of tired, but I would like it if you came with me."
Normally saying something like that would have been beyond her. She certainly wasn't the kind of girl who asked guys to come lay in bed with her, but there was no time left to be embarrassed or shy. She was relieved when he nodded and followed her up to her room without saying anything at all. Maybe he wanted the same thing she did, at least she hoped so.
Kagome heard the door of her room close and without daring to turn around she began to undress. She heard a choked gasp from behind her but ignored it, and even when he began to stammer her name she didn't stop removing her clothing. Once she was wearing nothing all, she slipped into her bed and only then did she look at him.
"Come to bed with me," she said quietly.
"Kagome," he tried.
"Please. I love you, and I want to be with you. Can't that be enough for us?" Her tone was soft but certain. She wouldn't whine or beg, or guilt him into being with her, but she wasn't going to let him go without at least asking once.

InuYasha wasn't sure what to say and sure as hell didn't know what had gotten into Kagome since she wouldn't fucking talk to him. He wanted her, to be with her. There was no question about that, and truthfully his body was saying ‘hell fucking yes' even more loudly than usual since he had just watched her get naked right in front of him, but he still wasn't sure it was the right thing to do.
She was Kagome and he loved her, but was it really enough? They had only just confessed their feelings to one another and beyond that they hadn't had a chance to talk about anything or what it even meant for them. This whole thing seemed to have come out of nowhere, and it didn't set well with him at all.
But gods she was beautiful and wanted him, and he was pretty sure saying no would kill him. He was also pretty sure that it might damage their relationship in a way that would take a long time to repair. The only real question was if saying yes would be worse.
"It's okay if you don't want to," she said quietly, interrupting his thoughts. "I do want to be with you, but only if you really want me too.
She sounded so sad, accepting, but so fucking sad that it literally hurt to hear. "It ain't that I don't want you. Fuck, don't think that, not even for a minute, Kagome. For so long... Shit, why does everything have to be so damn complicated with us?"
"But it doesn't," she said, sitting up and holding the sheet against her chest. "We've been through so much together. We've given everything we had to protect the jewel. We've bled and cried and nearly lost everything over and over again. We're allowed to want this, to have this one thing for ourselves after all this time, on our own terms and no one else's."
InuYasha considered her words and while part of what convinced him was how certain she sounded, the rest came down to the fact that she was right. They'd both done enough sacrificing, and they'd both let fate dictate their lives for long enough. If he wanted to be with her and she wanted to be with him, right now, in this moment, then right now was the right fucking time and everything else be damned.
Without a word he reached up and pulled at the tie across his chest. He un-tucked his haori and kosode and shrugged them off onto the floor. While he had never actually imagined being embarrassed the first time he was with Kagome, deep down he had always assumed he would be. Now that it was happening though, he found that he wasn't. He couldn't be, not with the way she was looking at him. Even as the last of his clothing fell away she never took her eyes from his face.
He slipped into the small bed beside her. It was a strange and wonderful feeling having so much of her skin pressed against his with nothing in between them. He reached up to touch her face, her hair, before letting his hand slide down her back. He pulled her closer as he kissed her. She gasped into his mouth and slipped one of her legs between his, wrapping her ankle around his calf.

Kagome could feel him, hard, pressed against him and it wasn't nearly enough. She reached down between them and stroked him several times.
"Fuck me," he groaned. "K'gome. Feels so good. Don‘t stop."
She smiled as he rolled on to his back and took advantage of his position to get a better grip. She kissed his neck and chest as she worked him with her hand, slowly making her way down his body. She was determined to make this the best night of their lives and one neither of them would never forget.
He groaned again as her warm breath caressed the head of his cock and it emboldened her. With only a moments hesitation she flicked out her tongue and tasted the moisture that had beaded there. She raised her eyes to see him with his head thrown back, a look of pure pleasure on his face, which served only to intensify the persistent, wonderful aching between her legs.
She parted her lips again and this time took as much of him into her mouth as she could, sucking gently as she pulled back once more. Over and over she took him into her mouth using her tongue to tease him each time she released him, until he was practically whining with every pass. Only then did she begin to work him continuously with her mouth and hand in hopes of making him come.
She knew he was close when she felt his hand in her hair. She could tell he was fighting to keep from exerting any force on her head and to keep his hips on the bed. She released him with her hand and placed them on his hips and encouraged him to thrust into her mouth. He went too far a few times and she choked a little, but it was more than worth it to hear him as he cried out her name.
When she was sure that he was finished she sat up, wiping her chin with the back of her hand, but InuYasha wasn't having that as he pulled her back down against him and rolled on top of her. He kissed her roughly, only moving onto her neck when she was breathless.
Kagome gasped as he nipped her neck and then again just behind her ear before moving lower. She didn't know how anything he was going to do would feel better than it already did just having him kiss her, but as he closed his mouth over one of her nipples he showed her. Her back arched until it was almost completely off the bed as he sucked gently on her breast. She almost didn't recognize her own voice as she moaned out his name.
Not wanting any part of her to feel neglected InuYasha switched to her other breast, lavishing the same torturous attention on it as he had on the other.
"Please," she begged, though she didn't quite know what exactly it was that she was asking for.
InuYasha growled softly but answered her plea by continuing lower along her body. She squirmed in pleasure as he placed several soft nips along the vales of her hips until he was as last positioned directly between her legs.
She smelled amazing, so wet and ready for him that he was already hard again and aching. He wanted her so badly, but first he wanted to hear her crying out his name as she met her release. Using two fingers to open her to him he leaned forward and delved his tongue inside her. He lapped at her hungrily until she was panting and had her hands fisted in his hair holding against her. Her entire body trembled as she drew ever closer to her orgasm until she could stand it no more and cried out his name.
Once she had released him and relaxed her leg muscles enough for him to pull back his head, he crawled up her body and lay over her. Her nails dug into his back as she held him close, and she could feel him straining beneath her fingers. She looked into his eyes until she couldn't take the intensity of his gaze any longer. She wrapped one leg around him and threw her head back as she pulled him all the way inside her. His head fell forward against the bed and his breath was hot against her ear.
"So fucking good," he growled as he rocked his hips against her. "I can't, I can't...."
He slipped one hand over her hip and pressed against her bent leg to hold her in place as he started to thrust against her. She could hardly breathe as he filled her over and over again. She wasn't sure one person was meant to feel so much. She ached and she burned and it was so much and not enough all at the same time.
"I-I-I need..." she tried but she couldn't seem to figure out what she was trying to say.
And then he shifted above her, just a fraction of an inch, but that was all it took and a few thrusts later she wasn't thinking of anything at all as her world exploded. She might have cried out his name and he hers as they came together, but she couldn't be sure. She was light headed and completely relaxed as he collapsed on top of her. Since he didn't seem to plan on moving anytime soon and since she really didn't mind having him laying over her, she wrapped her arms around him.
It was only several minutes later when they were both breathing normally once again that he lifted himself up and moved to lay beside her. She sighed as he wrapped his arms around her and pulled her against him. She was pretty sure she had just had the best first time of any girl ever, and she knew it was because of how much they loved each other and how long they had waited to let themselves have this moment.
As they lay there she noticed that InuYasha didn't seem to be able to stop touching her, whether it was running his hands through her hair or along her back or against her thigh. She held him a little tighter and took a deep breath. She loved the way he smelled and never wanted to forget.
Gods she was going to miss him.
At that thought and as hard as she tried she couldn't stop herself from crying. She cursed herself for ruining everything with her stupid tears, but it wasn't enough to stop them. She tried to bury her face against him so he couldn't see but he was having none of it. InuYasha sat up, pulling her with him. He took her face in his hands and forced her to lift her head and look at him.
"What's wrong? Did I hurt you? Damn it, Kagome, tell me," he said.
"No, no, you were wonderful," she said quickly. "So wonderful in fact that I don't know how I am ever going to survive without you here to love me. I didn‘t want to do this to you, I swear. I just love you so much, and I can‘t help it."
"Kagome, what the hell are you talking about?" he asked as he continued to wipe away her tears with his thumbs.
"When you leave to go back through the well," she replied quietly. "I know you have to go, but it doesn't make it hurt any less."
InuYasha's look changed from confused to concerned, and he felt her forehead. "Are you sure you're all right? You were acting strange earlier, but after what you said I was sure you were okay and that you were just tired or something. Shit, did I fuck this up too? Kagome, I thought you understood when I went to say goodbye to the others that I was staying here with you not just for a little while, but for good."
She shook her head. "I know you meant that then, but everything's different now. The whole world is different. I know you, and I know how honorable you are. It's okay, really. I understand that you need to go back to the time you belong in to make things right in this one."
"The only fucking world I belong in is the one where you are," he said. "Is it really so bad here just because there are more youkai? I‘ll protect you, Kagome, you and your family. You don‘t have to worry about that."
It took several seconds for his words to sink in and when they did it was all she could do not to start crying again. "I thought you would think that you had to leave - that you would feel it was your duty to fix what we changed, and was going to let you go because I never want you to resent a choice I forced you to make."
"Maybe it makes me a selfish bastard, but I'm not giving you up, Kagome," he said, "and as long as you can live with that, then I can too."
Kagome threw her arms around him. "Of course I can. Who's to say that the world isn't better this way? The youkai who have attacked me have been after the jewel, but that doesn't make all the youkai in this time bad."
"Besides we‘d never even have known things were different if I ever had any intention of going back, because they wouldn‘t have changed in the first place," he told her. Although, he wasn't even sure if that had made sense exactly, but he was sure she would understand what he meant.
Kagome gasped and looked up at him. "I never even thought of that. If you had gone back then we wouldn't have known that you needed to because things wouldn't have been different here." Then she laughed. "Just coming up with that sentence made my head hurt. Time travel is so confusing."
InuYasha wanted to laugh with her, but there was one thing he had to know before he could move past this and be happy just to be with her again. "Kagome, is the only reason that you asked me to be with you because you thought I was leaving?"
Kagome opened her mouth and closed it again twice before answering. She didn't want to say the wrong thing but she owed him the truth. "It's the reason I asked you tonight, and it's the reason I had the courage to ask you the way I did, but it's not the only reason I wanted to be with you."
"Damn it, I knew something was wrong," he said. "I knew I should have found a way to tell you that it didn't feel right, but I didn't know how to do it without hurting you."
Kagome covered her mouth with her hand and squeezed her eyes shut. She pulled in a few jerky breaths. "Oh god, then you didn't want this, and I-"
Suddenly she couldn't seem to get any air into her lungs. She had never wanted to force him to choose anything when she knew it would hurt him to do so. It as much a part of why she had never tried to force him to choose between her or Kikyou as her being afraid of what his choice would be was.
"Fuck, that came out wrong," he said quickly, grabbing her shoulders to get her attention. "It didn't feel right because I wasn't sure it was what you really wanted, not because I didn't want to be with you. And being with you, I wouldn‘t take that back, not for anything. I wanted to be sure you were ready is all, I swear."
"Really?" she pressed.
He nodded and took her face in his hands again, so that he could press a gentle kiss to her forehead and then place another on her lips. "I just never wanted to do something you might regret."
"I will never regret being with you tonight," she told him. "Maybe it happened sooner than it would have, but this is what I wanted, what I've always wanted with you. I've been ready for a long time, but we never had a chance to let this happen before now. So we're okay?"
He smiled at her, and pulled her down beside him as he lay back on the bed. He turned to face her. "Just okay, really?"
She giggled and snuggled up against him. "I wasn't talking about that and you know it. That was...that was mmmm..." he voice trailed off into a moan as he nibbled at her neck.
"So fucking good you want to do it again right now just as fucking bad as I want to," he supplied.
She couldn't breathe as he positioned himself between her legs and slipped inside of her.
"Say yes, Kagome," he breathed against her ear.
And she did.
