A/n Thank you for the kind review on my last chapter and sorry to keep you guys waiting so long, so I hope it was worth the wait. Anyhow, onto the story.

Chapter 8 Progress
Inuyasha was sitting talking with Miroku and Sesshomaru when a burst of fear ran down the bond from Kagome. He shot to his feet and took off to the town to find his mate. Being a half demon meant his demon could surface when the need was clear. When he was younger he practice with a katana seal called the Tessaiga. During his teen years he had lost control of his demon twice and it took both Sesshomaru and his father to bring him back without the seal. Inuyasha learned how to control his demon side into adulthood and now they work more as a team. His demon surfaced as he ran it didn’t fully take over him but forced him to push harder and faster. It took him only minutes to cover a distance that took almost an hour by car. The site he came upon almost caused him to almost blackout with rage. Another male demon was holding his mate by the throat and he had injured her. He could see little trails of blood running down the side of Kagome’s neck.
“Let go of my mate.” Inuyasha roared as he pulled the man from Kagome. She slid down the wall and exhaled. She was shocked to see Inuyasha in front of her but at the same time relieved. She knew she could have handled the demon in the end but was grateful not too, as that would have attracted the attention of the media.
Kagome sat holding her neck as she watched Inuyasha throw the demon across the street into a building. He stalked towards the male and immediately started punching him over and over. She noticed Sesshomaru touch down, Rin ran to him and quickly explained what had happened. “Inuyasha!” Kagome called out, he turned in her direction and that’s when she saw his eyes were completely red, his demon had surfaced completely. Purple, jagged marks adorned his cheeks, his claws doubled in length, his youkai whipped around him wildly. She whimpered letting out an almost Inu like whine holding her hand out to him, she knew he would never hurt her. His need to help and comfort her would override his need for blood. She was sure of it and gave Sesshomaru a glare as he went to intercept Inuyasha as he stood over to her.
Taken back by the glare he received, Sesshomaru watched as his transformed brother cross the street to his mate. He was amazed that the little miko had so much power over his brother’s demon already. Such a bond took time to form, it only reconfirmed to him that they were meant to be, they were always fated to be together. Sesshomaru let out the breath he didn’t realize he had been holding; even he would have had trouble taking down Inuyasha in his demon form. He was reckless and unpredictable which would have made things much worse then what they were. He was thankful that Kagome was able to divert his attention from the offending demon. They had laws and procedures that needed to be adhered to or it would be no better than the feudal era.
Kagome held her hand out to him allowing Inuyasha to scoop her up from the ground. He barked something to his brother and took off for the woods to find a safe place to take care of his mate. He pushed himself faster till they were back on the Tashio property, and he brought her to the spot they had been a couple days prior putting her down by the river. She let herself cry as he pulled her into his lap as the emotion of the situation hit her. She felt his tongue run over her cheeks licking her tears away, she giggle and smiled. With her calmed some he removed her hand so he could inspect the damage that had been done to her mark. He growled at the puncture wounds that had already stopped bleeding but still were deep cuts. Kagome’s eyes met him and she was shocked to see him still in his demon form. “Inuyasha, come back to me Koi.” Kagome cooed. Inuyasha pulled her close sniffing her neck before darting his tongue out to clean and seal the puncture marks on his mate’s neck. The demon had been lucky he didn’t damage the mark he had place on Kagome of he would be dead right now, instead of lying unconscious in a pile of rubble. When he pulled away, he smirked, satisfied that there was no trace of the attack left on her neck.
“Kagome, Saiai, are you ok?” He timber voice was still lower than usual but not demonic like before. Kagome opened her eyes which she had closed during his tender treatment of her wounds and sighed. Inuyasha was still half transformed but more like his self. Golden eyes now only rimmed red, his marks fading but the worry she saw in his eyes almost broke her heart. She wished she could feel his emotions at that moment, like he could hers. The longing he felt came down the bond made him smirked but said nothing about it.
“Yes, thanks to you, that demon had grabbed Abby as we were leaving the pub. We had stopped in for a glass of wine in celebration of Sango finding a wedding dress randomly at the vintage shop. He grabbed Abby and wouldn’t let go, I sent Sango on with Rin and then zapped him good with my holy powers. He followed us out of the bar and was pissed he caught me off guard, I couldn’t use my powers again or he would have torn my throat out in the process. I did tell him I would zap his ass to the moon though.” Kagome explained before he could even ask what had happened. She watched the emotions play across his face, anger, pride, horror, more pride and then happiness as he placed a quick kiss on her lips.
“Wench, you are never going anywhere ever again without me.” He teased chuckling as she stuck her tongue out. “Technically I am never without you silly.” She countered as she pointed at the mark on her neck. Inuyasha shook his head and buried his head in the crook of her neck. His heart rate was returning to normal, the adrenalin finally wearing off. Nuzzling her mark for a moment before pulling away to look at her once more. Kagome smiled bring her hand up to gently cup his cheek before leaning forward to place a soft kiss on his lips. He returned her kiss, pulling her as close to him as he possibility could. The desperation of the kiss and his emotions were not lost on Kagome. They parted resting their foreheads against one another, eyes slowly opening to look at each other.
“I almost lost you again.” Inuyasha started to say, Kagome’s eyes soften she was going to say he wouldn’t have lost her. She would have used her powers as soon as the opportunity arose. The look of fear in his eyes stopped her from saying anything. “If you hadn’t stopped me, I would have torn that demon to shreds. This transformation wasn’t like the others I remember the whole thing, it’s like my demon took over enough control to give me the speed and strength but his main concern was you.” Inuyasha placed another chaste kiss on her lips.
“I knew you could never hurt me Inuyasha, no matter what form you take. I know in the past you almost hurt others in your demon form, but that won’t ever happen with me. I promise. I love you, all of you and he knows that, plus it’s not the first time I stopped your demon form doing something stupid.” She could feel his need for reassurance from her about his demon side even without a mating bond. She could read it in his eyes that he feared she would run away from him.
“Kami woman, I love you.” Inuyasha captured her lips in another searing kiss. He pulled away sighing knowing they needed to get back to the house before too long. Their family would be worried. “Guess we should get back.”
“Ya, mama must be worried sick by now.” Kagome agreed standing waiting for Inuyasha to offer a piggy back. He chuckled at her expectant, but excited look. “I’ve created a monster.” He said offering his back to his giggling mate, he smirked as she squeal as he took off into the forest. Moments like this made it all worth it to Inuyasha. He could feel the pure joy and happiness radiate down the bond to him. It was infectious, he let out a chuckle as she squealed again as he leaped through the forest to the main house.
Harumi sat in the little café fidgeting, looking around nervously, she could feel herself being watched and knew they would suspect something was up if she appeared to be acting too calm after everything that had happened. The real Kagome would be a bundle of nerves for the first week or so while out and about. So that’s what she portrayed, Harumi’s glammer was in place, the bracelet she wore hid her real aura while producing one that mimicked a spiritual. Only those really close to Kagome would be able to tell the difference in her Aura and the feel of it. She watched from the corner of her eye as a woman with short black green hair entered the café and sat in a corner booth. She pretended to be studying the little drink menu set on the table but was really watching the disguised Harumi. Now would be the test, Harumi finished her hot chocolate placing some bills on the table before getting up to leave. She was moving on to the next part of her fake daily routine, which was the super market that was a couple blocks from the family shrine. Another kitsune wearing the same glammer was currently repeating the same process but near Kagome’s old apartment. They needed to be sure that there wasn’t more than one traitor working against them.
The other kitsune was her husband, who would be returning to the shrine after dark to take Sota’s place as Sota was no longer there. He had been removed from school during the day and sent to the Tashio compound. Harumi caught a good look of who was tailing her before exiting the café, the demon was average height with short black hair that had a green tinge to it. Her eyes were an odd shade of pink even for a demon. What caught Harumi off guard was her state of dress. She looked like she was going to a club not a relaxing evening at the café. Her breasts were barely contained in the deep v black tight shirt she wore and the leather skirt she paired with it was so short the underside of her bum was almost showing. She was taken back but didn’t let on as she continued to the market.
Harumi walked through the market picking up a couple things and placing them in her basket. She caught the demon out of the corner of her eye a couple times, again she looked so out of place. Walking to the till she reached the shrine steps, sighing before ascending them. It was an action she had seen Kagome do in the past, mimicking her was easy as she had been around the woman since she was a child. The female demon stopped at the bottom of the stairs, before running up to the fake Kagome. “Kagome!” Yura called running up the stairs.
“Excuse me? Do I know you?” Harumi answered with her best imitation of Kagome’s voice. Knowing this demon wouldn’t know the different.
“It’s Yura, from Sesshomaru’s office, we met last year at the company Christmas party.” Yura smiled and grabbed her hand. “Sesshomaru has sent me to get you, something terrible has happened to Inuyasha. You must come quick!” Yura’s fake panic was easy to see through but Harumi let out a little gasp, dropping her groceries for dramatic effect before following the woman down the stairs. Yura led her down the road and right into an alley way where she stopped and turn on Harumi.
“Yura? Where are we going?” Harumi asked uneasily before reaching into her pocket to pull a small ball from it. It was a product from the Taijia’s it would knock out a demon before they even realized what was happening. Yura turned on the disguised kitsune, her grin was one of promised pain as she grabbed the woman’s wrist. “My boss wishes to speak to you and I plan on taking you to him. He will pay me really well for delivering the one thing he desires most.” She explained with a merciless grin. Before Yura could drag her any further into the alley, Harumi dropped her glammer and through the little ball to the ground watching it exploded into powder. Yura was so shocked she didn’t react quick enough to get away from the rising powder. Harumi smirked as she slipped on the mask that had been provided for her and called Jaken to send a car to her location. Jaken was a toad like demon that was Sesshomaru’s right hand demon. He had been with him longer than anyone could remember and was fiercely loyal to the whole Tashio family.
“Yura’s the leak. She’s out cold so I need you to send a car and muscle to get her in as discretely as possible. I will disguise her as a passed out male but I need to get back to the shrine just in case someone else is watching.” She explained quickly while pulling out a leaf and placing it on Yura’s head effectively transforming the woman and then herself before slipping back out on to the street.
“Me and Sev will be there in 3 minutes.” Jaken croaked, he had been waiting for a call from one of the Kitsune’s and was prepared. They arrived on the scene and loaded Yura into the SUV, to anyone watching it would look like they were helping a drunken buddy home instead of kidnapping someone. Harumi enter the house on the shrine and removed her glammer to greet Kagome’s grandfather. Everything had gone according to plan, tomorrow she would continue to impersonate Kagome and help around the shrine. She would then return to her normal duties of being ‘Sota’s’ bodyguard. She sighed as she sat down to wait for her husband to arrive and see what he had to report. It was going to be a long couple of weeks she thought as she put on some tea while she waited. But if it meant Kagome’s and her family’s safety then she would endure. She had grown attached to the family over the years of knowing them and would do whatever it took to protect them.
Sesshomaru’s eyebrow arched as his brother communicated to him in Inu. He was surprised as never before during one of Inuyasha’s transformations had his demon communicated. He suspected that maybe since it wasn’t his life in danger that Inuyasha still had some control. He wasn’t lost in blood lust but the need to protect him mate, which both sides would be driven to some type of compromise. He would have to speak to Inuyasha at some point about it. Sesshomaru pulled the demon from the ground by his neck. Why someone would think it would be a good idea to attack another males intendant he had no idea. But this demon would pay for his actions against his loved ones. First for his sexual harassment on Abby and then he would be punished for assaulting Kagome. He called one of his men who were staying in town on his orders. Sora and his mate Johnathon were both brown Inu’s, Sora grew up in Japan and his mate in North America they had met many years prior while working for Sesshomaru. Johnathon had been hired as extra security during a trip to America and he had impressed Sesshomaru, who offered him a full time job.
It didn’t take long after that for Sora and Johnathon to fall in love with all the hours they spent together. Sesshomaru wasn’t a closed minded demon so he didn’t care that the males were together and mated. They excel as a team and to Sesshomaru character and being a good being was important. They knew his family had a getaway somewhere close by but they were to stay in town and wait for his to return to the city. It was actually a good break for the two body guards as they were mostly tasked with watching the lady of the house, she had a very active calendar with different charities and what not so they didn’t get too much free time. It made getting away and having some time for themselves a nice reprieve for them. Almost a mini vacation with the stipulation being they could be called on at a moment’s notice. That never bothered them in the least, and they did enjoy the little town they were staying in.
“Sora, I need you both to take a demon to the lockup and then return here until we are ready to depart for the city.” Sesshomaru ordered, giving Sora the information they would need to bring the demon in. “Argh, unhand me.” The male had finally come to but was being held in Sesshomaru’s iron grip he wasn’t able to move. He thrashed against his captor and went to rake his claws down but stopped with a glare from the demon holding him. “This Sesshomaru thinks not, you have assaulted a kitsune and a human female today. Did you think that would go unpunished?” Sesshomaru snarled, before taking a calming breath. Immediately he stopped at the realization of who was currently holding him. Alex ceased his struggling and went limp he knew he was done for. He wondered how long before they figured out he had killed his mate in a drunken rage, rather than her leaving him.
“Hey Boss.” Johnathon called as he parked the large black SUV next to his boss on the curb. “Sora is making some calls to get this damage taken care of. We should be back in a few hours.” He explained why his partner wasn’t getting out greeting him. Sesshomaru nodded and passed off the prisoner to him, he gave a grunt of approval and waved his employee off. He took to the sky to get back to his family as soon as possible. He trusted the two Inu’s to take care of what he asked and be back before the morning. He would have the council deal the demon’s punishment, but knew it would be one of two things, death or life time incarceration. Which was the punishment for harming a human in such a manner, the fact that she was a council member’s daughter was irrelevant. Sesshomaru ran his hand through his hair as he landed on the outskirts of the property he decided he would run some his frustrations out before returning to his mate. The lingering question in his mind being was how did trouble always seem to find Kagome?
Kagome and Inuyasha walked into the house and were immediately bombarded by the parents. Kagome assured her mother that she was ok, and that Inuyasha had healed her as good as new. Mai hugged her daughter to her and secretly wondered if her daughter had a bad luck magnet attached to her. Inuyasha also reassured them that if Kagome returned to town without himself or Sesshomaru that Rin’s bodyguards would be joining them for now on. “Inuyasha doesn’t that seem like a little much don’t you think?” Kagome scolded and frowned as he tugged her close growling.
“Kagome a random demon attack you guys today, I will not be taking any more chances. I know you can fend for yourself and as soon as you were given the chance you would have seared that mother fucker’s hand off you. But being a Tashio paints a huge target on you, even Rin has two bodyguards. I will have a guard, Miroku will technically be one of my guards but still this how it has to be. Please don’t fight me on this Koi.” Inuyasha ran his hand through her hair as she sighed. She really didn’t want a babysitter but understood that it would be something she would have to get used too.
“I agree Inuyasha, it something I probably should have done years ago.” Mai nodded and decide in that moment that she would be hiring a full security team and backing her future son in law on the subject.
“Alright, fine.” Kagome conceded with a huff. “I’m going to get a shower before supper when the girls get back could you please grab my bags and bring them up.” Kagome asked Inuyasha, with his nod she turned and half stomped in defiance to their room. A little while later she exited the bathroom and found Inuyasha on the bed watching tv. “Hey beautiful.” He greeted, and gave her grin as she came over to plop down on the bed with him. “Your bother is here.” He looked down at her pained expression, feeling the self-hatred down the bond. He understood why she was feeling like that, but until she saw him the feeling would stay. So with that he turned off the TV, helping her stand making their way down stairs to her family. Before she even made it to the kitchen the teenage boy launched himself at her.
“Kagome are you alright?” Sota asked as he hugged his sister, he didn’t care uncool it seemed to hug his sister. He had been so worried about her since she ditched the wedding, well actually well before that. He pulled away and smiled as she stared in shock, as if seeing him for the first time in a year. To Kagome it really was the first time she’s truly seen him since being under a spell messed with her mind.
“Did, did you grow?” She questioned quietly brushing his bangs from his eyes. Her brother was now slightly taller than her she couldn’t remember him being this tall. His features were less like a boy and more of a young man. He nodded as a tear ran down his cheek she pulled him close as tears poured down her face. It was a mini family reunion, Inuyasha saw Mai coming up behind Sota and smile as she hugged both her children at the same time. “I’m so sorry Sota, I basically abandoned you this last year, but you must know that it wasn’t my fault. I was under a spell I need you to know I would never just leave like that.” She cried as she apologized, Sota couldn’t find the words but squeezed his sister reassuringly.
“I know sis, it’s ok.” He finally spoke. “It’s going to be ok.”
The four of them walked out to join the rest of the family out on the patio for supper. The evening were longer and the weather pleasant. Perfect for the group to be enjoying their time outside, the dinner was one of celebration in Kagome’s mind, a family reunion with her brother. Her heart ached knowing her Grandfather was still at the shrine and hadn’t seen her since she basically woke up but it was for the best. She knew he needed to be there and that he wouldn’t leave no matter the threat. She sighed and laid her head on Inuyasha’s shoulder, as she sipped her tea. It had been an exciting day in good ways and bad which had left Kagome completely exhausted. She yawned again which didn’t go unnoticed by Inuyasha.
“Kagome, I think it’s time you go to bed.” Inuyasha brushed a stay hair from her cheek and tucked it behind her ear. She shook her head mumbled something about wanting to spend more time with her bother, she smiled as Sota laughed at one of Miroku’s jokes. “Kagome you are utterly exhausted, I can feel it.” Inuyasha said sternly, worried that his little human was pushing herself too much.
“Sis, if you are tired go to bed, we can hang tomorrow after my tutoring.” Sota gave his sister a look. She laughed and complained about overbearing males in her life always telling her what to do. Kagome did take the out as chance to escape to hers and Inuyasha’s room, saying goodnight before going upstairs. Inuyasha stayed with the group to give Kagome a little space. He could feel her need to decompress and mediate before bed.
“Inuyasha, could I have a word with you?” Sesshomaru asked he stood, taking some of the dishes from the table. Inuyasha nodded and picked up the rest of the dishes to follow his brother inside “The kitsune’s were successful in finding the mole, it was Yura.” Sesshomaru watched his brother for a reaction. Yura had been one of his long time assistants, and he should have realized something had been going with her as she had been acting not like herself as of late.
“Why? Why would she betray you after all these years?” Inuyasha was stunned to say the least. he had known Yura since he was a preteen when she started working for Sesshomaru out of college.
“That fact seems to be eluding me brother, but I intend to find out. Naraku will be integrating her tonight before she is handed over for sentencing.” Sesshomaru smiled wickedly he would go tomorrow if Naraku didn’t get any information out of her by morning. Inuyasha grinned back knowing that Sesshomaru probably wouldn’t have to go as Naraku had a way of getting the information he wanted. “You going to tell me about what happened today?” Sesshomaru asked was Inuyasha’s emotions play out.
“I don’t know how to explain it, since I marked Kagome my demon has been even more protective of her then when I felt her fear, it snapped. But I still had some control and knew what happening.” Inuyasha explained as plopped down on a chair. “It was exhilarating and terrifying at the same time.”
“Interesting, it seems your demon half rose to protect your mate. We will just have to see what happens in the future. ” Sesshomaru surmised, though deciding he would do a little digging in his achieves to see if he could find more information for his brother. A hanyou taking a mate wasn’t rare now but one of Inuyasha’s strength was. Their father was over a 1000 years old and he himself a couple hundred. Youkai aged at an exponentially slow rate taking decades to reach maturity while half demons aged like humans until they came of age and then they slowed down to match their youkai counterparts. Sesshomaru smiled, his children with Rin would be half demons and that suited him just fine.
Naraku entered the stark white room slamming the door behind him. The room was the basic integration room set up, camera in the corner, table, two chairs and Yura sat bond by spiritual shackles. She growled at Naraku as he entered narrowing her eyes at the demon. “I see Sesshomaru sent his lap dog to his dirty work. So what form of torture will you be dishing out today Naraku? Ripping my claws off? Breaking my joints?” Yura snarled and snapped, it was just noise to Naraku, he had his way of making any demon talk without the use of force.
“No, no it’s much simpler then that woman.” He chuckled pulling an ofuda from his briefcase. She visually paled at the sight of the spiritual power snapped against her skin. “You see this, it feels the darkness in you aura and the closer I push it towards you the more it will react to your dark aura. Kagome and Miroku came up with this one years ago by mistake, they thought it had been destroyed but I kept it for moments like this. It has its purposes.” His grinned widen as Yura shuddered and tried to pull away.
“This is against the law you can’t use that against me.” She screeched, the hair on her arms stood and sizzled.
“Oh but I can, you see if you look at the law closely, it states I can use this against you if an immediate life is endanger. A life is endanger, a female wolf named Ayame and Kagome as you tried to ‘kidnap’ her. So I will ask you once, choose wisely, where is Ayame, why does he want Kagome and why did you turn on Sesshomaru?” Naraku smirked as he pushed the ofuda closer to her. She hissed in pain as the power whipped over her hands searing the flesh almost to the bones. She howled in pain and panted before saying enough. Naraku pulled the ofuda away from her and her knuckles started to heal.
“He didn’t say why he wanted the vile Miko, I assume to hurt the Tashio’s. He doesn’t tell me his grand plan, but pays me well to divest secrets and fuck with Sesshomaru. I will take you to the location of the wolf, but it will be on my terms. I will need a few days to figure out what to say to Zenaku to get in the door as my disappearance will enrage him.” Naraku nodded as that was acceptable, plus they would need a few days to get an extraction team ready. “As to why I turned on the bastard. He turned on me first.” She sneered.
“Explain.” Naraku stated coldly.
“He was supposed to be with me, that ningen stole what was rightfully mine. The bitch stole my mate, so I would destroy him and anything he holds dear.” She snarled and snapped her eyes widening manically as a cackle escaped her throat. “The funny thing is you guys think you have won but no matter what I tell you he is ten steps ahead. He will win this war he will slaughter all of you.” She laughed hysterically a second time before
Naraku pulled the ofuda back placing it in his briefcase. Yura jumped at the sudden movement as she had been expecting more questions from the man. He smirked but said no more to her as he left the room. Yura told him more then she thought, the man they were after didn’t have people loyal to him, he had money, so that would mean a paper trail and with that information they could find out more about him. Naraku placed a call to get Yura’s financials checked over, no one is perfect and one slip up could mean the demise of Zenaku.
The next day everyone went about what was now the normal routine. Kagome and Miroku went to the river to mediate, Sango and Inuyasha trained, Mai, Toga and Sesshormau worked and Rin and Izzy worked on different projects around the property. They were currently building a new fire pit with Shippo in the back yard. Souta was being tutored by Abby with the rest of the kids. All in all a normal day well as normal as their lives could be. Sesshomaru had spoken to Naraku and just about spit his coffee out when Naraku told him how Yura thought they should have been mated. He had never given her that impression, or even took her out on a date. Where she got that idea he had no clue but knowing how she felt about Rin he was glad they caught her when they did. Rin was his everything and if someone hurt her the rules be damn he would kill them.
At lunch Sesshomaru told everyone what he had learned and who the leak was. Rin gasped as she realized she had inadvertently given Yura information on them all as they had been close friends. “How did I not notice she hated us?” Rin sighed and snuggled deeper into Sesshomaru lap.
“You couldn’t, even I didn’t see the darkness in her soul, she hid it well or is actually mentally ill.” Miroku explain to help ease Rin’s heart. It was true that mental illness was rare in demons in the sense of most were either good or bad. There was the rare cases of dissociate disorders but not many. The sickness would cause the demon to lose touch with reality rather quickly, darkening and twisting logic.
“Rin did you want to come out and shoot some arrows with me and Sango?” Kagome asked seeing her friend needed a distraction and redirection of her anger. Rin nodded and hopped up to follow Kagome and Sango out to the backyard. “Rin you couldn’t have known.” Kagome reassure her as they walked out.
“I know but that bitch thought she would take my mate from me.” Rin just about growled. “No one will take my mate from me.” Kagome wanted to giggle at her outburst but knew how serious the situation was for the woman, so instead she grabbed a spare bow and taught her how to shoot. She caught on and was shooting along side her friends, allowing the rage she felt to be fired away with each arrow. Rin watched as another of Kagome’s arrows hit the bullseye, it still amazed her that her friend had such a talent for the long bow. Most of her arrows barely hit the target, but it was a good distraction. They decided to take a walk to the river and dip their legs in to cool off.
“So Rin are you and Sesshomaru still trying for a baby?” Kagome asked, knowing they had been trying before.
“Yes, which has been annoying since to conceived your husband would need to be home more. We literally only got the chance a couple different months with Sesshomaru schedule having him out of town or country and that was not long after I got off the pill. He promised me last month that he would make sure to be home at least every second night for now on.” Rin smirked at the memory, threatening ones manhood had gotten her the desired results. Though it wasn’t just that, Sesshomaru wanted a child also and knew he needed to be home more. It had taken him a few months but he managed to create his new schedule so he would be in the country for the next six months.
“I will add a prayer to the Kami for you guys, not that I think you two need it.” Kagome side hugged her friend as they sat on the bank with their legs in the water.
“Kami if I told Miroku we could start trying he would be humping me like a dog every five minutes. The man is insatiable.” Sango giggled as she kicked her legs back and forth.
“I could see it now ‘Sango darling one more round just to make sure we got it right.’” Rin imitated Miroku.
“Oh Rin.” The three women fell into a fit of giggles and continued to chat.
A while later they came back to the how to get cleaned up before supper. Kagome came out of the bathroom feeling refreshed and happy. There was something about a good shower or bath that always put her in the best of moods. She smiled as she walked to the bed noticing Inuyasha had laid out the green dress she had purchased the previous day. It seemed her mate wanted to her to dress up, which she was more than ok with. As Kagome finished dressing Inuyasha walked in the room, he seemed calmer but at the same time fidgety. “Inuyasha everything alright?” Kagome asked concerned.
“Yes and no, I just wanted to remind you that the new moon was tonight.” Inuyasha came up being her and zipped her dress up for her. She turned and looked at him with a smile, she knew how much he hated turning human and that tonight he would be extra emotional. “Oh right, I completely forgot with all that’s been happening. I’m sorry.” Kagome planted a kiss on his lips and hugged him tight to him. “So I only got another while before you lose those cute ears, darn.” She giggled as her growled that they weren’t cute. They went down to join everyone and Kagome noticed that everyone else was dressed up too.
A long wooden table with two long benches had been dragged out into the middle of the stone patio, with a grey linen table cloth placed on it. Lights were strung around the yard along with the gazebo. Kagome smiled it was the perfect way to celebrate Sango’s and Miroku upcoming wedding as that was what she assumed they were celebrating as Souta’s and hers reunion had taken over the previous night. Almost like a belated engagement party thought. They sat around enjoying each other company, eating, laughing, drinking and sharing stories about each other. At one point Sesshomaru’s phone rang he excused himself to talk to whoever phone while everyone else kept chatting. He wasn’t gone long before returning with Shippo, Abby and Shippo’s parents who joined the group after dinner for some pastries, tea and coffee. It wasn’t long till Rin decided music was in order along with some dancing. She plugged her phone into the outdoor entertainment system and one of the new pop songs echoed across the yard. Kagome laughed as her friend pulled her up to dance, along with Sango and Abby. Wine was being poured everyone was dancing, well except Sesshomaru who watched with a small smile from the sidelines. It wasn’t long before dusk hit. Kagome was slow dancing with Inuyasha as she watched her favorite hanyou turn human. She already missed his golden eyes which were replaced with brown and white hair now black. She sulked as she ran her hands through his hair. “I miss your ears already, good thing it’s only once a month.” She smirked as he sighed in contentment as her finger pulled through his hair.
“Keh, always with the ears, I swear you love them more than me.” Inuyasha pouted before retuning her smile, and placing a kiss on her lips to silence her giggles. “I have something to tell you.” He pulled away from her smoothing out the sports jacket he wore.
“What might that be?”
“Could I get everyone’s attention.” Inuyasha called out to the group. Rin turned down the music so Inuyasha could be heard. He turned to Kagome and took her hands in his. “Thanks Rin, as you guys know I really suck when it comes to speeches so bear with me.” He cleared his throat taking a deep breath before continuing. “Kagome having you back in my life has been like a dream and now that I have you I will never let you go. There were so many things that I did wrong in the past but I promise I won’t be making the same mistakes twice.” Kagome gasped as Inuyasha got down on one knee. “ I love you, Kagome Higurashi will you make me the happiest man on earth and be my wife?” Inuyasha pulled a ring from his pocket and presented it to her. Tears were running down her face, words escaping her so she nodded her head dropping to her knees to kiss him. Cheers and congratulations rang out around them.
“You just keep surprising me.” Kagome said between kissing him and him slipping the ring on her finger. He hugged her tight before letting go so they could talk to his family. The ring was a stunning 2 cart center stone cushion cut diamond surrounded in a halo of smaller diamonds, small diamonds came half way down the narrow band that was set in platinum.
“Oh Kagome, it’s beautiful.” Sango wrapped her friend in a big hug. “I am so glad we could be part of this. Inuyasha has told us earlier today he would be proposing tonight yesterday.” Rin, Abby and Kagome’s mother had joined Sango in gushing over her ring. The rest of the women joined and they started talking about weddings, mostly Sango’s as Kagome wasn’t ready to plan a wedding anytime soon. There was still so much going on that she couldn’t even start to think about planning a wedding but she would help Sango with the rest of hers. It was the least she could do for her friend who had stuck by her through everything.
“It’s hard to believe not long ago I was going to marry Koga for all the wrong reasons while under a spell and now here I am with the man I was supposed to be with all along.” Kagome smiled as Inuyasha came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her. They stayed like that watching their family and friends mingle and chat. Her heart felt like it was going to burst with happiness at any moment.
“This is how I want our life to be.”
“And it will Koi.” Inuyasha whispered kissing her temple.
