Four ladies were appointed that day to the imperial harem.Kagura the red eyed wind sorceress,Yura the yellow eyed hair youkai,Ayame the redheaded wolf youkai and Kagome the blue eyed human onna.Bankutso escorted the chosen ladies for the harem back to their respectful quarters. It had a been a long day but an interesting one.
He glanced at the silent human curiously.There is something formidable about this woman--shes is witty and yet in some way untraditional --shes not afraid to speak amongst men in the court. She is unlike any commoners daughter I know. the attendant thoughts concluded slowly as he led the women along the dark pathway.
Kagome walked in silence her mind was processing the days events, there were so many things she wanted to know or rather confront starting with that arrogant Prince. Father I was chosen today for the harem,I have a chance now to become an imperial concubine as you wanted. This was not my desire--perhaps my purpouse in life is much greater than my own will. her thoughts were  interrupted by a familiar yet playful voice.
"Kagome-san" Ayame the wolf youkai called. Rushing towards the onnas side she bowed playfully " Or should I say Zenko concubine"
Kagome gasped smiling slightly."Ayame san- you made it to the harem also. Im releived! Please call me Kagome and besides Im a merchant daughter,your an aristocrats--"
Fanning away the onnas words abruptly the wolf youkai grinned before lightly tapping her on the shoulder with a fan.
"That doesnt matter in the palace" she injected sharply "Remember Kagome your pedigree,background nothing matters-- when you have the emperor's favour-- and his decree "
"Hai --I will remember this" Kagome whispered quietly. The two walked in silence for awhile but there was a probbing question the female youkai wanted to ask.
"Kagome Im curious to know this. How can a mere merchant daughter recite poetry in such fashion or bring enlightment where Shinto proverbs are concerned.I am aware of the proverbs but even I am not informed on many of their meaning. I was educated in the arts, dancing , embroidery, singing and playing string instruments but never in much literature--since its frowned upon" Ayame whispered lowly.
"Ayame-san" Kagome replied with a long sigh. She had no idea why her ability was seen as such a big accomplishment "Sometimes I wish I can be ignorant of the things Im knowledgable of.I wish I can just sing,dance and perform the arts instead of trying to dig so deeply into the world around me. I was raised in a household with only men--mother died when I was babe. Father told me that I had to be aware of the world so that it would not swallow me whole. Souta my younger brother is a poet though he's only a decade old he travels with my grandfather and performs for shoguns and lords when they seek entertainment."
Kagome smiled before facing the wolf youkai sadly."I owe most of my knowledge to grandfather's materials.He was our teacher--its been half a year since I last saw them"
"Go--Gomen Kagome- san" Ayame whispered as she touched the onna shoulders slightly.I didnt mean to bring up any sadness.My brother Koga kun is head of the military,he didnt have time to teach me much literature but--- he did show me how to wield a sword and defend myself if needed"!Ayame exclaimed quickly as she flicked her fan and charged at Kagome in a playful rush.
"Oh yes" Kagome said giggling soundly. "That surely supercedes any of my intellect.  What name did the emperor grant you" ,the onna added curiously-- she noticed the wolf's shimmering pendant in the light of the moon
"Oh. I was given the name Geijutsuka--Lady of the arts", Ayame replied proudly as she stroked her jaden pendant. "I performed Bei Zings dance--flying dragons. I think the highnesses enjoyed it alot. Kagome what exactly happened between you and the crown prince I been itching to know. There seemed to be some tension between you two even some remorse.I heard hes not the warm type and upsetting him can lead to well--"
"It doesnt matter" Kagome injected quickly with a slight frown. " He openly offended me I was the only human that made it to the audition perhaps that in itself was not appeasing to him but still since it was the will of the Gods I wont take criticism from him or anyone. Crown Prince or not Im still a person after all--Geijutsuka--the name is fitting for you" The onna commended quickly she had hoped to change the topic to something more pleasant
"Ayame-san perhaps we can benefit from each other .If you teach me the arts I in return can teach you literature. It is said that a single arrow is easily broken, but not ten in a bundle",the onna chimed softly. " Do you know this proverbs"?
Ayame turned to the human as she pondered thoughtfully. "You meant --there is strength--if we work-- together.?"
"Yes"!, Kagome cheered thats right strength in unity--Ayame-san never doubt your intellectual ability." Where theres doubt theres error
"Hai ,Kagome Im glad Ive found a friend in you," the demoness praised cheerfully. Linking her arms about the human and pulling gently the two walked along the palace path chattering and planning for the days ahead-- until each had met the road which would lead to their seperate residence.

Crown Prince's Quarters
Sesshomaru sat upright onto his large futon it was almost midnight and he found that it was becoming more and more difficult for his mind to stop its marathon. Though the dai youkai did not require much sleep, it was the only time he had to himself to meditate and process the days he had ahead.  Tonight it was unusually difficult for him to focus and --he knew why.
She was just an ordinary girl--nothing to dwell on.. Sesshomarus mind rehearsed for the hundreth time.
The dai youkai had spent most of the night uneased, his mind kept reverting back to the onna words;
"As a pious girl I am not allowed great accomplishments like men but neither am I willing to discard my own intelligence.Fleeting life is better than no life at all,and my fate can only be determined ..by the Gods."
"The Gods"!,he sneered loudly."Your fate doesnt rest in entities you cannot see but rather the ones that are present. Silly girl your fate actually rests in the palm of this ones hands ".
Satisfied at his rebuttal--where his mind was concerned the inu prince flexed his hand slightly at the intencity of his statement. He would make use of whomever was availible this night.
Firmly he summoned his servant Jaken .His mother did recommend that was it was time he made use of the imperial harem, and with the way his mind was unsettled the prince knew he would not get any rest tonight.
"Yo--your lowly servant is here ",Jaken stuttered softly as he waited for the inu prince's request.
"Jaken summon Uttaeru concubine--Yura the hair youkai-- tell her to prepare herself to serve this one tonight. ", Sesshomaru said boredly as he walked towards his private indoor hotspring. He hoped after tonight the onnas image would be nothing but a distorted one
"Hai--crown prince ", the small youkai servant said firmly as he disapeared through the western side entrance and towards the familar path of the eastern wing.

Yura's quarters eastern wing
Yura the hair youkai rose from her futon swiftly before the servants beckoning. It was a fact she had smelled his toad like odour before he had came knocking. Gracefully she walked towards her chestnut trunk and adorned herself in a red silken night yukata robe.
It was a gift bestowed to her by the human concubine Kikyo. She didnt particular have taste for wench but it was not like the ningen concubine was a challenge.
She belonged to the half breed prince she didnt serve the emperor nor the crown prince because of this fact she post no threat to demoness. Kikyo gifted Yura with a night robe and a few insences , sandalwood, frankincense,sage and cinnamon bark all known to calm the nerves and intice the senses.
So his majesty has requested my service , I didnt expect his request this late but nervertheless I will serve him at my best--as far as Im aware the other concubines do not have this advantage--and I Yura do not plan on remaining a mere 4th rank concubine. The female youkai concluded as she awaited fthe servants call.
"Appealing concubine Yura-sama",Jaken squaked as he knocked slightly upon the shoji screen doors. "His highness crown prince has requested your service--adorn yourself and follow me to the western entrance."
The imp servant bowed lowly as the concubine stepped outside the doors slowly."At his highness's request", the demoness replied seductively closing her screen entrance .
Crown prince--I assumed it would be the emperor so this is why the prospects were gathered?Well this changes everything ,the female youkai thought confidently as she followed the imp servant towards the western entrance.

The Emperors Quarters
"Congratulation your majesty", the Empress praised smoothly as she massaged her mates shoulder gently."The harems selection looks very promising this year--that Kagome she certainly can capture an audience--she has quite a similar persona to Izoi.."
"Enough Kimiko", Touga said interjecting softly."I do not wish to compare her to the late imperial concubine.
"I agree there are some similarities in their features. Izayoi personality was much more reserved she was wise ,kind and full of integrity like the young onna--her death was tragic but honourable", the emperor responded softly.
"A little similarity--is enough. Is that why you choose her then." Kimiko asked her tone suddenly taking on an envious turn. No she did not like to bring up the humans demise-- or the human in generally-- but to maintain the facade she held for nearly two decades it was necessary
"Not quite". Touga said softly" In some ways Id like to beleive that Izayoi spirit lives on--however my reason for selecting the onna serves a greater intent than my own."
"Kagome has the pavillion of the Shattered Jade" Kimiko added softly. "I pity her the place is remote people seldomly pass by.Why would you place here there then."? Kimiko asked, once again her curiousity had gotten the best of her.
Though she knew of her mates intent. Out of sight --out of mind. Though with the commotion the onna made a few days ago who could forget her.
"The quarters Shattered Jade", the Emperor stated slowly."It holds signficant meaning though remote it suits the onna.  Im sure she appreciates its serenity--also she is the only human in the harem.I do not wish to make things more difficult for her by placing her amongst the other youkai women."
Touga said reasurringly. He would not reveal all to his made he was not a fool to think of her query as innoncent
You may not understand my intentions but all will be revealed in time. Thunder will clap from a clear sky" his mind chanted.
Turning he gently cupped Kimiko face and captured her lips experimentally.Intimacy with her was done out of duty rather than pleasure on his part.

A/N
I literally finished this chapter with a teething 6month, so you know how that goes. If there are any errors I am still in editing mode .Unfortunately I do not own microsoft office or am I willing to buy it at moment I write from notepad so I manually have to do everything
Kagome found an ally now..lets hope it all goes well. Things will speed up in the next few chapters..Kikyo is gonna stir up some problems...after all she wants Inuyasha to be the future emperor
