Kagome, still fallen over the dark earth, had her face turned to the amount of big rocks and sand that once have been Mount Hakurei. She gasped. After torturing instants, feeling a deep shock piercing every one of her pores, a heavy silence and a huge feeling of emptiness surrounded them. Ailyn stopped cursing and ceased the attacks, now she was sitting over a large stone, spinning that weird weapon on her hand. Her sight wandered far, and sometimes it's shinning blueness trembled.
"You.. " panting, the traveller from distant ages struggled to speak. "You don't want this."
"Who are you to tell me what I want?" She asked, sounding indifferent though.
"Don't let Naraku control you..." tired brownish eyes blinked. "This will not bring him back."
Suddenly, Ailyn raised the bony blade to the sky and her fingers started to swirl the scythe around the desert land.
"What do you think you know about me, girl?"
"You were in love with Bankotsu." Kagome revealed as if there wasn't any mystery about it. Her timbre sounded melancholic. At first, she didn't have connected the facts, but after spending some hours on those cruel, resentful hands, the girl remembered a particular moment she had witnessed.
Ailyn rose, and in irritated steps she enclosed her victim. This time, there weren't electric discharges, nor phantom fog what hit Kikyo's reincarnation, but the merciless hand of the mourning woman which fingers entangled on a lock of raven hair on her nape, making her head lift from the ground.
"And if you were in love with Bankotsu, you're not such an evil person." Although the pain burning her skin, among some moans Kagome insisted on sharing her idea. Her almond eyes didn't evade from the furious celestial ones.
"Silence!"Ailyn shouted..
"I have seen how you looked at each other, and just how brave he was when he saved you from Kaze no Kizu. You might have been special to him, or Bankotsu wouldn't have taken such risk..." Despite the violence she was being inflicted, Kagome smiled. The grip on her hair loosened a bit.
"This is ridiculous!" The lass of the golden curls dropped her and got up. While Ailyn was stepping back to the scythe stuck on the earth, Kagome resumed to speak:
"I know those things because I understand, I also am in love with someone..."
"I do not care! Stay quiet or I swear I will..."
"If you really wanted to kill me, you would have done it already." At last, she managed to sit. To Ailyn's surprise, Kagome has regained the control over her own body. As she raised from the dirt, supporting her hands on the knees, a tenuous pink light contoured her wounded body, making her shapes shine. "You could have used this blade against me a long time ago, and yet you chose to just unburden your sorrows over me with your own powers and hands."
"It seems I have underestimated you." The blond lass said, holding the weapon again, pointing it's sharp tip to the teenager.
"Don't let yourself turn into a Naraku's marionette. There is still time!" Kagome insisted.
"It is too late, Naraku may be a bastard, but who murdered Bankotsu was your Inuyasha." She claimed. "And for that, you all must pay!"
"Kagome!" Inuyasha's voice echoed, crossing the mist. As he came closer the winds agitated, and through that clouded landscape the two women beheld the huge sword's golden light. Ailyn grabbed the girl's arm and used her as a shield, rubbing Naraku's blade against her neck.
As the fog was dissolving, not only the inuhanyo appeared, but also the other brave Kagome's friends, and the small ball of fur Ailyn has never concerned to learn the name.
Her hostage, albeit the danger she was facing, smiled brightly and her eyes twinkled, overflowing relief and hope.
"Inuyasha..." the girl murmured, her heart flustered. She knew he would come.
"What have you done with Kagome, wench?!" The hanyo shouted, aiming Tetsusaiga to the foreigner.
"I'm ok!" His companion, still smiling, didn't seem to care about the bruises spread around her body, nor about the tears on her uniform. "It's all about a Naraku's plan! He..." a hand covered her mouth, muffling her voice.
"Enough with this rigmarole!" Ailyn rolled her eyes and tightened the hold around Kagome. The scythe tip superficially cut the neck of the girl. Not only Inuyasha, but the two humans and the little fox shouted the name of their friend. Hearing the agony on those voices made the Red Rose show the most faked grin of her life. Someone very observant could tell that her bitterness even yellowed her teeth.
"Inuyasha," the witch growled the name, "how lucky you are for arriving in time. At least you will have the chance to bid farewell to your dearest little girl."
"Let go of her now! Or I'll..." while uttering the threat, he gave a large step ahead, squeezing the hilt of his sword.
"Or what?" The lass chuckled. "Will you reduce me to dust, as you did with Bankotsu?" Then she laughed so loud that her high voice reverberated all around the debris of the mount. "Go on then, attack, show me the deadly blow you have deferred when sending Bankotsu back to the underworld!"
"Tsk!" Inuyasha hesitated. As much as he used to be impulsive, the hanyo knew that using any of Tetsusaiga's powers he would hurt Kagome in the process, and that was all he could think about. Sango and Miroku, however, payed much more attention on Ailyn's tone and words, and the way she mentioned Bankotsu's name didn't go unnoticed for them.
"Interesting." Another male voice sounded, passing through the mist, startling Naraku's pawn. Ailyn looked back, still attached to Kagome, and saw a beam of golden light descending from the sky, almost provoking a hurricane of her dark smoke. When the stranger's feet reached the unfertile soil, the dust slowly dissolved in the air and the stern figure finally became clear to everybody's sight. Elegant in his garments, delicate in his features, however certainly deadly for his gaze and for the claws on his retorting fingers, there was the handsome Lord of the Western Lands.
"Lord Sesshomaru, please wait!" His servant claimed from the heights, riding the big dragon with two heads along a little girl.
Just with one look, the yokai made himself understood and Jaken kept Arurun where it was, from that distance he and Rin would be merely audience.
"Sesshomaru, what are you doing in here?" Grumpy, his younger brother inquired.
"You surely have a natural talent to make enemies, Inuyasha." Tenuous debauchery was present in the way he expressed himself, and in a discreet, almost inexistent smirk adorning his milky face.
"Keh! If you're not here to help, then don't stay in my way!" He shrugged.
"I do not know if you recall, but your biggest problem in this moment is me!" Ailyn interfered, her rage overtook any sort of curiosity about the mysterious fellow who just have arrived.
"Naraku is close." The daiyokai announced, totally ignoring the woman's explosion. "It seems you were so distracted by frivolities that was not even capable to sense his scent." As "frivolities" he was referring to the human girl taken as a hostage. His golden eyes merely ran over her messy figure while he left the comment.
"I'll settle scores with the two of you later, right now I'm quite busy!" Pretending an excessive confidence, the hanyo smirked and raised his thick eyebrows, yet, deep inside, his core was nervously revolving for Kagome's condition and for a sort of anxiety for the possibility of Naraku showing himself soon. He knew the bastard was the one behind all that fuss. "Come on woman, release Kagome now or I'll have to teach you a lesson!" Still faking sureness, he threatened.
"You are not in position to impose me conditions, halfbreed pup. The one who dictates the rules is me!" She held Kagome's throat while still pointing her the scythe.
"Explain to her, Inuyasha!" Kagome said, once her lips weren't covered anymore. "You had no choice but to defeat Bankotsu!"
Ailyn, furious because the hanyo has ignored Kagome's appeal, believed such attitude was not only a proof of the assassination, but also the worst indifference's demonstration of doing so. Again, the tip of the blade made of bone touched Kagome's neck, this time no threatening words came along though, the golden-haired lass just held her target's head with one hand, and soon the wicked mist evolved them again, preventing the girl to move any limb inside her embrace.
Sango felt the air vanishing from her lungs, Miroku had the same sensation of impotence. As much as the demon slayer has oriented Kirara to get near of them, and even aimed Hiraikotsu to Ailyn Rose, she was aware that if her weapon was thrown, the immense boomerang would hit her friend as well, and the monk was conscious about the disaster the Kazaana on his hand would become. Shippo, on Sango's shoulder, was screaming for his dearest friend, pointing her his little shaken arms. Sesshomaru, on his turn, was just watching the stressful events in silence. Finally, from above, the other person moved by such tension was Rin.
When the deadly scythe was ready to spill blood, the earth underneath the enraged woman quaked and from it's depths two big roots emerged, each one grabbed an Ailyn's arm, forcing them to open wide. Finally free, Kagome didn't think of discovering from where the sudden help came, her primal instinct was to run to the lad who always had protected her, and although Inuyasha was still dizzy for the whole situation, he held the girl so tight that got her by surprise.
The trio riding Kirara witnessed a silhouette behind the fog. The powerful, austere yokai slightly turned his face to glance at the figure. By the corner of his eye, over the pelt adorning his armor, he figured out who it was. Ailyn, however, didn't look to any direction except for Inuyasha's. The hanyo couldn't notice that his gesture of embracing Kagome just fed the Red Rose's resentment even more. Seeing them two having a chance to be united in a way she would never be with Bankotsu again made Ailyn feel like burning inside.
"Ailyn, that's enough!" Annabelle's shout echoed across the mist.
The ears deafened by the most bitter sorrow didn't listen. Squeezing the scythe in hands, the lass broke free from the roots and was carried by the smoke to her opponent. Inuyasha put himself in front of Kagome and raised his sword. The hilt made of Naraku's bones hit against the blade, and in this instant various ramifications appeared, changing it's shape, looking like spider legs that grabbed the magnanimous Tetsusaiga.
"Damnit!" He cursed when seeing his sword being thrown away by those appendages. Not even Anna's sister was waiting for that, Ailyn laughed in disbelief while proceeding on attack Inuyasha.
The hanyo's advantage was his supernatural speed. It wasn't so hard to dodge from her blows. To reach Tetsusaiga on the rocky debris was only a matter of time.
Thinking better, if he wanted, he could end that nonsense by using his claws.
"Sankon Tesso!" That scream made Annabelle freeze from head to toe, then a pinkish bubble surrounded her sister, protecting the lass from the blow, that kind of forcefield was very well known.
The nervousness for being in front of those people who might have learned to detest her, and rightfully so, was replaced by an unmeasurable anger. Anna would not stay there just watching that scene, not even for a second longer.
As fast as a hurricane, she got to her sister's back, and still not hearing the voice of reason, she pulled Ailyn by her yellowish curls, throwing her on the soil. When Inuyasha was almost preparing another assault, Anna pointed a hand to him and yelled:
"Don't!" She stared at the hanyo deeply into the eyes, unblinkingly. He lowered his arms and his claws returned to their normal size, his response to her command was so fast and natural that even Inuyasha couldn't understand himself. "This is a family matter!" The lass complemented, now looking to her sister with a disapproving gaze.
Inuyasha blinked a plenty of times before recovering his right mind, and he would insist in not letting this go, but Kagome held his arm.
"What are you doing in here, pest?!" Sliding a hand over her aching head, Ailyn raised and this time she was pointing the scythe to Annabelle instead.
Fearless, the ginger twin caught the hilt of that thing and squeezed it. Soon the two women were competing for the object, first by force, then using their respective mystic energies.
"When will you learn that nothing good can come from dealing with Naraku, you idiot?!" Anna vociferated. "Don't you get tired of letting he use you on his own benefit?!"
"And who is asking me this?" The blondie laughed, evolved by dark lumen, the shard on her forehead glowing pitch black. "Naraku's prostitute!"
"Shippo, better tapping your ears." Miroku said, grimacing in embarrassment. In the heights, upon Arurun's scaled back, Jaken has already covered Rin's ones.
A characteristic sound echoed by the enormous ruin. Annabelle clenched her hand into a fist and hit Ailyn on the nose. The unexpected punch made the Red Rose's mind spin, her body almost fell behind. The pain obliged her to cover the bleeding nostrils with one hand, that was the perfect timing for Anna to achieve taking the scythe from her power.
"This is his thing, isn't it?" She waved the weapon. "What did you expect to achieve using this?!"
"Did you... did you just punch me?" Still disbelieving, she glared at the drops covering her glove. The smell and the taste of iron disgusted the lass.
"Yes, I did. And I'll do it again if you don't answer me. What did you expect to achieve with this sideshow, Ailyn?!" She yelled, sounding even more outrageous and hysterical than the other. "For Goddess' sake, how impossible you are!"
The silence around didn't bother the sisters, as if they had forgotten about the crowd watching their every action and screams. The golden-haired, panting woman ran towards her twin, and instead of summoning the powers from the underworld, she just attacked the other with her fists. Annabelle just dropped Naraku's weapon and this time, surprisingly, she retrieved every slap and every scratch. Red and White Roses grabbed each other by the hair and they fell, rolling together on the earth, raising dark dust while trading positions over one another in that ferocious fight.
