High flames twirled, unbearably clear and hot. There was nothing but fire in the vastness surrounding her, and Annabelle could feel all pieces of her skin burning, although the flesh never melted. Her whole body was being consumed by such torture and her screams mixed with many others, into a desperate crowd.
There was no difference if she would shake her limbs, or simply give up and stop motioning, the pain proceeded pulsing latently, with no time to expire, till a blinding light cut the fire dome in two parts and then the agonizing voices once harmonizing with hers faded at last.

Annabelle's eyes shut, when they opened again a luminescence bothered them so much that she had to put an arm before her sight. The lass still yelled and contorted her joints on the grass, feeling the last traces of the hideous pain.
"She's back!" A feminine voice announced while hands were holding her arms. "Anna, easy, you're fine, everything is alright now!' It was Kagome speaking.
"He did it!" Miroku was there, also trying to restrain her violent movements. He seemed very surprised, which made Anna feel even more confused.
Screaming, she sat and the first thing her eyes captured was Sesshomaru drawing a sword. Her instinct made her shrink her legs and put the arms in front of her visage. After all, one time that yokai was about to kill her, so why wouldn't he try it again? However, the merciless blow never came, so Anna flexed her knees and jumped up, standing on her feet. She saw Sango, Miroku already up as well, and Shippo looking at her with startled gazes. The lass couldn't tell if those three were worried, or if they were judging her. She spun around, her mind twirling just as her body, and then she met Inuyasha who looked annoyed and apprehensive at the same time.
"Miss Anaberu!" She heard Rin's voice slow and far away.
"Ungrateful human!" Then she heard Jaken and didn't understand what he meant.
So, while stepping fastly behind, her back hit against a strange, spiked surface. Immediately the foreigner turned around and her anguished blue eyes met the red, astonished ones.
After a long breathing that helped her to recall the recent atrocities, Annabelle opened her mouth and a growl came from her core, tearing the throat. The wild sound didn't represent fear, nor sadness. It was the manifestation of the most tempestuous fury.
"Annabelle..." The object of her wrath, on the other hand, remained static, just staring at her. His hands laid closed near his body. Naraku looked paler than ever.
"Get out of my sight!" She growled madly, her spine even leaned ahead while her feet sunk into the soft grass. Her whole body trembled, the lass was sweating so much that her garments was sticking around her forms. The clear aura shone through her again, burning wildly. Her rage soon spread and affected the others who were close, all of them glared at the Spider with hostile intentions which made Naraku reassume a rational behavior at last.
After staring each one of his enemies on fighting positions, he closed the crimson eyes and, as soon as they opened again, a miasma swirl circled his body and took him high on the skies, till he faded at the distance. Inuyasha tried to reach him while yelling a plenty of improprieties.
Annabelle felt her legs shaking, without any strength left she almost fell on the ground, yet constricting her knees she has been able to turn again, finally seeing her sister sitting into the circle of roses, shrinking, embracing her own self.
The ginger lass screamed once more, though this time it has been a brief vocalization, soon muffled by her hand covering the parted tremulous lips, so the shout turned into a murmur. Teardrops warmed her cheeks and wet the fingers cupping her mouth. Anna threw herself on the soil, not caring if her knees could get scratched or bruised, then she held her twin like they have been parted for millenniums, her hands grabbed locks of golden hair and brushed them, smoothing the strands. She brought some curls near to her nose to sense the scent. Yes, Ailyn was alive!
"Come." After watching every act of that opera in silence, Sesshomaru called his followers and turned his back, beginning to walk away without giving the little girl and the reptile yokai a chance to ask any questions. Rin delayed to obey the command though. The beautiful scene of a sister embracing the other caught her attention and made her heart feel warm. The girl wished she could be there holding both of the women, yet she understood that such moment didn't belong to her.
"Sesshomaru, thank you!" Kagome sounded moved while uttering that sentence. The daiyokai stopped his parade a bit, then resumed to walk. His faithful vassal jumped on his tiptoes till reach him, right after was Rin, sighing, answering Kagome's gratitude with a smile.
Annabelle's breathing finally slowed down, as did her heartbeats. She stroked her twin's face and cupped her blushed cheeks, then her mind turned back to reality and her gaze found the people around. They were looking at her with anxious, curious eyes. A chill ran inside her belly, for Anna hasn't forgot the last time she met each one of them. In such occasion, she remembered bitterly to throw herself in front of Naraku, protecting him from Wind's Scar blow. With that gesture, the lass believed she had declared herself an enemy to all those people. She should be afraid of a possible reckoning attempt, however, what was anguishing her the most was a feeling of shame.
Anna lifted her head while staring at them, and then she gazed at her sister again and touched her shoulders.
"Who are you?" Finally, Ailyn said lowly, almost whispering.
The question caused such bewilderment in everyone that made the Red Rose the central focus of attention.

Since the conflict has ended, hours passed by fast, soon the night fell painted by the stars. Annabelle saw herself in a place which she believed her feet would never step again - the village where Kaede lived, a place where she has cherished pleasurable moments with people who she even got to consider as a second family once.
Annabelle, you only have yourself to blame. The lass sighed, sitting on a clump away from the little houses. Nothing will ever be as it was before...

"So you're not with Naraku anymore?" Inuyasha crossed his arms while glaring at her with his direct amber pools. If his companions had no courage to initiate that conversation, he would.
How could Annabelle try to contradict his question if one day she has indeed been under Naraku's wing? Anna just shook her head in response then. As much as she tried to be discreet, each feature of hers was denouncing an abyssal disgust.
"And may I ask why did you choose to stand by the asshole's side once?" He insisted, pretty much annoyed, not buying her explanation from a while ago.
"It's complicated." Belle inhaled deeply and evaded from his fierce gaze.
"Do you love him?" Miroku got into the conversation, yet not as hostile as his inuhanyo friend.
"No!" She instantaneously hissed, each muscle of her body stiffened.
"Good for you." Inuyasha rested Tetsusaiga against his shoulder and began to move away.
"Hey, Inuyasha!" Shippo called from Kagome's lap.
"Where are you going?" The girl in school uniform asked, feeling confused.
"As far as I can see we don't have anything else to do in here." The half-breed demon naturally said after ceasing his steps, yet still on his back.
"We can't leave them this way!" Kagome intervened on the sisters' behalf.
Sango didn't share a word of defense or judgement, she felt divided. On one hand, the hurt caused by Naraku still pulsed within her chest, bittering her point of view about the ginger lass. On the other, her kind soul was making the demon slayer sympathize with the two women's state.
"Kagome is right," Miroku also intervened. "In the end, Anaberu-hime and her sister still are victims of Naraku's cruelty."
"Houshi-sama..." Sango pondered a little about his statement, then looked at the twins sitting upon the grass.
"I appreciate your kindness." Annabelle said politely. "But I must refuse the invitation. There are things I've done by my own will that I know you won't be able to forgive, and you have every right. I can't go with you, not after everything we've been through." She tried hard to sound respectful.
"Do as you please." Inuyasha didn't seem to give any importance to her words.
"Anna," after grimacing at Inuyasha, Kagome put Shippo on the ground, then she came closer and kneeled in front of the foreigner, touching her shoulder, "I can't judge you." The brownish, calm globes were locked on the lass.
The White Rose bit the lower lip, restraining a moan. Here eyes felt like burning to the point she almost was compelled to shut them, her hands squeezed hard her constricted knees. Ailyn was staring at her with a preoccupied gaze, the ginger woman's reaction was instigating anxiety in her.
"If there comes a time when you wish to talk about the past, I'll be open to listen. Right now, your sister needs a safe place to stay." Then, the girl glanced at the only family Annabelle has left, sitting in there, blinking the confuse turquoise eyes while breathing heavily. "How are you feeling?" Kagome serenely asked to the golden-haired woman.
"I do not know, sometimes my head aches and I feel a bit dizzy." Ailyn answered with a bit of embarrassment.
Anna looked at Kagome, feeling deeply moved. The young girl didn't show any trace of resentment towards the Red Rose, even after all the pain she had to endure. The bruises were still marking her skin, reminding everyone the violence she has suffered.
"Kagome..." Belle whispered, wanting to say many things, for she admired the girl so much, and still only that name escaped from between her teeth. Her trembling hands touched the priestess apprentice's ones, brown and blue met in fondness for some seconds. That has been the dialogue between them both. Soon, Kagome smiled tenderly and also emotional, then nodded, insisting on the invitation and no one, not even Inuyasha said anything against it. They reached an understanding this way.
Anna and her sibling raised together, holding hands. Ailyn looked like a sleepwalker in the way she wandered, fixing her eyes on nowhere specifically. Void was what represented her thoughts, not a single reminiscence of her temper has been witnessed, she was another woman. Everything has been erased just to be rewritten.
She was like a blank book. As a child, the lass would have to learn how to stand on her own two feet and walk. A sublime innocence seemed to wash all her darkness away, but Ailyn wouldn't manage to survive alone as she did so well in her past life.

For you Ailyn... Annabelle squeezed the red fabric of the miko's garment Kaede has borrowed to her. For you I have followed with them again. Sitting in a lonely spot, her hands ran over her legs and her chin touched her knees. During the journey, she didn't say a word to anyone of them, not even to her sister, fearing it would be too troublesome. Therefore, her eyes went stuck on the horizon line, and when arriving in the village she was received with a hot bath and a delicious soup. After dinner, Anna excused herself and walked away to breathe some fresh air. She needed to think and, mostly, she needed to be alone. My powers weren't enough to completely heal her, or maybe the total healing has been to take all the harsh memories away...
Annabelle couldn't describe the anguish inside, the sentiment of not belonging there. Although it was an old sensation, she never achieved to get used to such discomfort. With the time running by, that agony kept growing within. Every corner where her feet stepped on brought a memory of something that made her feel sad.
Lucky of you, Lynnie, to come back without remembering anything. She barely finished the thought and already started to scold herself for the idea. No, Annabelle, don't dare to behave like in that time ever again! The lass got up, annoyed by the scenes her mind brought back in a glimpse.
Even with all that rage revolving into her depths, staining the jewel shard with a discreet shade of blackness, any sort of a missing feeling remained, a wish to be together again.
Don't you dare, Annabelle! She commanded herself firmly, giving heavy steps, walking around without a certain direction, till her legs stopped in front of a wooden well. There, at last, she ceased the pilgrimage. Seeking for calmness, Anna touched the border and leaned her head down to see what would have inside, yet her eyes didn't catch anything but darkness.
It's from here that Kagome travels... She sighed. I wonder how the future is like. Anna looked back, seeing candle lights shining from the huts, it was time to go back to the village.
In short instants the lass was already getting inside the cottage where she would share a bed with her sister, there she met Ailyn spinning around, admiring herself in a non-conventional dress. Annabelle blinked sometimes, absorbing each detail of that flowery garment. Ailyn's breasts were almost jumping off the neckline which looked too tight for their size, and the skirt was far too short, not even covering her knees.
"Why are you almost naked?" Anna asked, lightly blushing.
"What?" Ailyn stopped spinning and stared at her with widened eyes.
"It's a bit tight but the dress suited her." Kagome was resting against a wall, Belle hadn't noted her there till the girl speak. "It looks pretty on her though, doesn't it?"
"So it's one of the clothes from you age..." The ginger twin chuckled, then sighed in relief. She laughed of herself for not being able to guess. Well, Kagome's uniform was far more shorty than Ailyn's dress and she never felt so shocked. When it's with a familiar, maybe it feels different though. "It's true, she looks great. Thank you for your kindness, Kagome." With hands on the waist, she studied Ailyn attentively.
"Indeed!" Miroku put half of his face into the small chamber and showed a large smile.
"You pervert monk, get out!" Sango pulled him by his robe.
How I missed this... After a long laughter, Annabelle admitted to herself.

Two days passed, the group stood in the village, enjoying the resting time they all have been in need for so long. As much as it could be complicated and awkward, Annabelle still would direct herself to Inuyasha to speak of essential matters, with Sango and Miroku it wasn't so different. With her sister she sought to interact in diary tasks as washing clothes, harvest vegetables and herbs, commenting nothing about Scotland, nor mentioning the past or their blood bond.
"Do I know you?" On an afternoon, while they were collecting some medicinal herbs at the riverbank, the blonde lass asked out of the blue.
"Yes, I share a room with you." She chuckled.
"No, not like this, Belle..." Ailyn called her by the nostalgic nickname she taught her to use again. Her eyes focused on her own reflection in the water, then they lifted and stared at Annabelle. "We're almost identical. Are we relatives?"
"Lynnie..." She touched the lass' cheek. "I could tell you that one day you will remember everything, but I can't guarantee it."
"What happened to me?" Her voice waved a bit.
"You're alright now, that's all that matters." Anna held her sweaty hand. "Everything is alright." She smiled. You are like in earliest childhood, innocent. Her fingers moved a golden curl away from a twinkling, confused blue eye.
"Then why do I feel this apprehension, followed by a sudden sadness? It's like a part of me is missing..." She raised her gaze to the clear sky. "I miss something that I don't even know what it is."
"Lynnie..." Anna murmured.
"You know something, don't you?" She resumed inquiring.
"Let's go, they're waiting for us." The red-haired twin offered a hand to the other. "We have enough herbs for today."
"You're always avoiding the matter." She mumbled before accepting the help to stand up. Both cleared the dust from their clothes and walked side by side. When they were passing by the well, Ailyn stopped all of sudden.
"What is it?" Annabelle saw her leaning to look inside.
"Can you hear that?" The blonde twin lowered her head even more into the well.
"Hear what?" Anna went to her sister, stopping by her side to look into the depths. For her there was nothing more than silence and darkness in it.
"How can the wind revolve down there. Don't you hear it?" Lynnie stared at her in astonishment.
"It must be your imagination..." a bit suspicious, she took the other woman's arm. "Let's go"
They walked together then, leaving the well behind.
