The twin sisters soon arrived in the village and got blended between the crowd in the yard. Ailyn used to interact well for a while, then she would find a place to sit alone and look at the scar on her little finger.
"What you did for her was amazing." Sango finally started a conversation with Annabelle, maybe for understanding how intense a blood bond is like. "It seems that a new start was everything she needed."
"I don't know if this is the new beginning she was in need, Lynnie seems so lost..." Although the feeling of surprise for that sudden talk, she tried to sound the most natural as possible.
"Do you think she will recover her memory someday?" Sango stood by the lass' side.
"I hope not." Anna answered directly.
"I see... if it was about Kohaku, I believe forgetting everything forever would be the best for his happiness."
Kohaku... Unlike her sister, Belle remembered the past experiences detailedly. Naraku... The end of the road was always the same - that damned name.
"He came back for a while." Sango said. "I know it was because of you." Almond eyes focused on the troubled foreigner.
Annabelle nearly jumped, really not expecting for such revelation.
"He told us some things about your presence in Naraku's castle..." the demon slayer was speaking calmly.
"Excuse me!" The lass moved away abruptly. That yard was so full of people that bumping against some of them was inevitable, but Annabelle managed to get out even so.
"What happened?" Miroku came, looking worried, yet his companion wasn't so talkative anymore. She just sighed in disappointment instead, and not only for the foreigner's reaction, but with herself for believing she could have brought the matter with more discretion.

"Oh!" Nightmares still woke Annabelle in the middle of the night. Each pore of hers was sweating, soaking her chemise and the sheets underneath. She sat while gasping, looking to the sides.
"Easy, easy!" Ailyn massaged her shoulders. "It was just a bad dream."
"Looks like some things didn't change in you..." Inuyasha's voice sounded from the entrance, he was standing in guard next to the wall. "Your screams awoke me." The lad explained before she could ask.
"Yes, there are things that never change indeed..." the red-haired woman murmured, sliding a hand over her throbbing chest. Or they do, in a certain way. Anna corrected in thoughts, for only she knew that the protagonist of her night terrors wasn't Kagewaki anymore, but Naraku instead. Yet this time, it had nothing to do with heated forbidden fantasies, Annabelle was rewatching the scene of the hanyo coldly murdering her sister, and then came Sesshomaru's blade so near of her own body, making the horror wake her instantly.
Inuyasha, gazing at her from the door, sighed, then turned his back, preparing to go away, but Annabelle ran to the entrance and made him stop with a question:
"Why did your brother want to kill me?" Still panting for the way she has raised, Anna inquired. The doubt has been tormenting her since the moment her breath has returned.
"Killing you?" Inuyasha giggled. "You should thank that jerk for still being in this world."
"What do you mean?" She followed him by the tight corridor, Ailyn was at the door observing them.
"You died." He told at once, almost stealing a bewildered scream from her. "Then Sesshomaru, in one of his rare moments of kindness, brought you back with Tenseiga, his sword."
Suddenly, the dread Anna has felt of being consumed by endless flames made every sense. It hasn't been another nightmare of hers, Annabelle has met the hell itself for a time she couldn't count, and Sesshomaru, someone she would never hope for any aid after the way she has left, was the one who took her out from there.
I went in Ailyn's place, the ring took my soul in exchange of hers. She bumped on the wall, dizzy after such revelation. Inuyasha looked at her for some instants, then he crossed his arms and moved away with nothing left to say. Anna didn't ask anything either, just stood there remembering Sesshomaru with that sword in hands.
He saved me... She touched her head on the wall and blinked softly, feeling the heart growing warm.

Naraku delicately landed over the desert soil of a land where someday a castle has existed. On that cool night illuminated by stars, there was nothing left of his old home but a single flowery tree which was gleaming alone in the dark demised earth.
He found hard to lift his legs to walk, not because of any physical limitation, for his new body was a fortress. The weakness laid in his reason that was oscillating, vacillating, although there was not a single beat reverberating into his chest.
The hanyo stopped in front of the tree and touched one of it's milky flowers. When closing the red eyes, he saw that miracle's creator fallen on the ground, as pale as those petals, her chest without making a move up or down. The howling wind surrounding his ears was replaced by Kagome's screams, Rin's pleading, the silent cry of Sango and an Inuyasha's grunt, everyone of them in grief. Annabelle was dead. His hand closed around the flower and shattered it.

"Sesshomaru, please!" Kagome insisted, unable to hold her tears. The daiyokai said and did nothing though, still gazing emotionlessly to the passed lass in front of him.
Sango hid her face on Miroku's shoulder while muffling a sob. Shippo couldn't help but crying loudly. Inuyasha bit the corner of his lip, staring his older brother fiercely as he pressed Tetsusaiga's hilt in nervousness.
The precious golden globes raised to Naraku's figure, seeing behind his new façade the misery inside.
"You were the responsible for this woman's demise, Naraku." He said with no kind of exaltation, with that mysterious gaze locked on the spider hanyo like two sharpen yellow daggers.
Crimson eyes expanded, the bitter taste on his tongue worsened. Naraku looked at the discretely purplish shard still into Annabelle's chest and he concentrated his attention there.
You can finally retrieve it. The voices of the gemstone have celebrated, however what he tried to do was completely the opposite. Naraku pointed a hand to the motionless body, a pinkish lumen contoured the dead lass and pulsed around her. And that was all.
"What is he trying to do?!" Sango reached Hiraikotsu on her back, ready to severe the arachnid's head if it was needed.
"He wants to bring her back with Shikon no Tama's power..." Kagome went to the demon slayer and held her arm.
Strangely, no one has intervened on Naraku's attempt. His enemies behaved like mere witnesses and for their features, Inuyasha and his friends even seemed to pray for the jewel magic being sufficient. However, Annabelle's state didn't change a bit.
Not even Shikon no Tama has the power to ransom her soul, the arachnid realized and stared at Ailyn looking frightened, not understanding anything.
Annabelle sacrificed her very soul to save her sister. Naraku figured, his hands closed in clenched fists, the red orbs on their backs blinked frantically. His body burned inside, like it's pieces could fall apart at any moment. The grief came not only from his mind, the sensation was similar to a day when Anna helped him to recompose in the first time he tried to get rid of his heart, the amount of yokai which composed him wanted to take over everything, and the hanyo nearly turned into an irrational beast. Now, after everything he has done to achieve his goal and succeeded, although his mind grew stronger than the urge of those demons inside, wasn't him a worse monster?

How can you make me feel such regret if I don't even have a heart anymore? Scarlet eyes lingered on the petals laid upon the dark earth, stained by the aridness at last. Can it be because you were not only engraved in it, but also inside every single piece of mine? How he wanted to break free of such abstract pain, still it looked more resistant than his very own indestructible constitution.

"Shikon no Tama is useless on this case, how can it be?!" Miroku kneeled by Annabelle's side, sinking his staff on the soil. He looked at the lass and then to Naraku as if he knew the hanyo had the answer.
Sesshomaru! Naraku stared at the demon with fire in the eyes, his throat left a low growl out instead of a spoken request.
"Her last chance is Tenseiga!" Kagome also gazed at the daiyokai.
"Lord Sesshomaru!" between sobs, Rin appealed. "I promise I'll be a good girl and I'll do anything you want, but please, please save miss Anaberu, she doesn't deserve this!" She held one of his legs.
Sesshomaru lowered his head down, attentive to the child's every gesture. Her eyes were overflowing, so did her tiny pinkish nose and her body was shaking, on it's knees. Rin covered her face, feeling ashamed of her fragile state, not liking to be a consternation, then a hand softly touched her head and she opened the swollen eyelids just to see his blurred forms through the salty torrent. The white, elegant figure leaned down on one knee right by her side. Behind the curtain of coldness, she saw a thread of fondness, her little hand rested on his constricted leg, squeezing his hakama.
"Please..." Rin whispered, attached to the last glimpse of hope.
Sesshomaru raised, his gaze ran across everyone around, hovered upon Naraku for instants, and finally it focused on the pale lass laying on the ground as his fingers curled around the hilt of his sword. His enemy restrained a deep sigh and closed the ruby eyes, his relief was discrete, yet it still could be noticed.
As soon as Sesshomaru drew Tenseiga, he saw creatures which were similar to those who used to get attached to the demised to take their souls, though these were red with amber eyes, and they were tying flaming chains around the lass' entire body. In a single, majestic blow, the daiyokai cut that little demons in half and broke the incandescent orange chains. A thread of light formed where his blade went through and made the woman shine before everyone's eyes.

You will never be able to forgive me... His teeth gritted as he frowned, Naraku's breath fastened. The human's furious scream still echoed into his ears. Such void inside of him was suffocating! For I will not forgive myself either, Annabelle Rose. I did everything to keep you safe, and still I couldn't refrain my hate. I killed your sister and you sacrificed yourself in consequence... Kagewaki was right in the end. The prophetic speech of a ghost followed him anywhere he went, and the destroyed flower on the branch, which remains have been buried in the sand, was a proof that everything his hand touched would always perish.
Naraku blamed himself, yet not only. His crescent hatred turned towards the pearl he chose to keep. If such preciosity was a person, he would kill it mercilessly. So huge was his rage that covered his ears to the choirs. Still, he has gone so far and was chased by so many people that he needed the power, he needed the resentment, but he also needed her... and as the days were running by, harder it has become to control his urge to look for her, worse it was now, after almost losing her for all eternity. Because not only his heart belonged to Annabelle, but his whole being itself.

"So, I've been thinking..." Kagome started, she and Annabelle were sitting in the grass, above them there was an improvised clothes line full of colored garments hanging, waving with the gentle breeze. It was a calm afternoon, while they were talking, Anna was sewing a new dress for her, it was hard to get used to a priestess' costume. She didn't feel like it suited her.
"Tell me." Attentive to the needle and line, she answered.
"Sometimes Ailyn goes to the well and says that she listen howls from inside, on today's morning she told me she saw a light coming from it's depths." She stared at the lass of golden curls playing hide-and-seek with Shippo between the trees.
"A light?" Annabelle ceased to sew and looked at her sister.
"Yes, Anna, when I travel through the well I see it too." The girl said, touching the foreigner's arm.
"Do you believe Lynnie may be a time traveller like yourself?" She smoothed the almost finished dress over her lap.
"You told me yourself about a legend of your country. What if the well works like the stones?"
Annabelle sighed, then smiled softly. "And she used to say she didn't have a power from birth..."
"So, as I was saying, I thought a lot about it and I have a suggestion to make." As soon as Anna looked at her, Kagome spilled the idea: "On my age, medicine is much more advanced, maybe it is possible to discover why Ailyn lost her memory and if there is a less traumatic way for her to recover it. My mother and grandpa can give the necessary support, my little brother will also be happy to help her."
"After everything she did to you, do you really want to take her to your home and ask your family to take care of her?" The lass' heart waved, filled with emotion.
"She will be safer in the future, Anna." Smiling, she held the other's hand. "And the past is the past! I know Ailyn had a very tough life, maybe with others' aid she can find her way and if she likes there, why not staying then?"
"Kagome, you are the best person I've ever known in my whole life..." Her eyes grew watery.
"Oh, don't say that!" The girl blushed, then waved one hand while clumsily giggling.
"I mean it, you make me believe that no matter how the world may be cruel, there will always be a detail, or someone to color the darkness and show that even so it is worth to live in it." Anna wiped the tears threatening to descend, not only for the teenager's gesture, but also because she knew that if her twin crossed the well, they would probably never see each other again.
It's the best for her. She understood, for in the feudal era there were many dangers around, and many places that would possible awake bitter memories. On Kagome's century everything would be new to Ailyn and Naraku wouldn't be able to do her any harm.
With no objections to make, Annabelle accepted the idea and they decided the farewell would occur at the sunset. Kagome would need to go home for a few days, since the exams' period would soon begin, Inuyasha would stay there spending some time and Ailyn would travel with them.
So, each hour left the Scottish lasses have spent together. They talked about trivialities, one braided other's hair, they even made garlands with wild flowers, reliving many habits they cherished when they were children, without Ailyn even realizing it.
Then the sky became pinkish and the sun shone in coppery shades, it was time to say goodbye.
"Where are you taking me?" Ailyn asked as soon as they got in front of the well.
"To a much better place to you, Lynnie." Anna brushed some of her golden locks, putting them behind the twin's ears. She restrained her emotions the best she could.
"Will I ever see you again?" Also emotional, Ailyn asked.
"Who knows how the future will be?" Anna rubbed her own eyes and smiled.
"So see you soon, Belle." The blonde woman held the ginger affectionately, feeling grateful without even knowing why.
"Enough of this drama!" Inuyasha complained, already standing over the well's border. "Let's go then!"
"Inuyasha, don't make me use the kotodama spell!" Kagome, sitting over the wood while adjusting the backpack on her shoulders, scolded him.
They loosened the embrace slowly, finally Ailyn gave her hands to her journey's companions and they jumped into the well. Annabelle ran to the border, leaned down and couldn't see anything but dark earth on the depths. At last, she covered her eyes and cried as loud as a child.
She was happy for her family, and still it was impossible to hold that storm inside her core. A cycle has been closed in her life, and as much as it has been tortuous many times, she would miss her other half still so.
Someone pulled her to an embrace, when Anna lifted her gaze she saw Sango offering her shelter. Such gesture made more and more tears pour down, her eyes felt sore.
"You did what you had to, she will be alright." The demon slayer sympathized with her pain. It wasn't easy to be parted from her brother. Love overcomes any quarrel.
Miroku watched Sango carefully sliding a hand over Annabelle's hair.
"I don't deserve your fondness, Sango, really!" She sobbed while speaking. "I wasn't capable to make Naraku release your brother!"
"For a time, you have been." Miroku uttered serenely. "I have no idea of what you did, but you did it anyway."
"And I thank you for the simple attempt." Sango complemented. "This only shows me how kind your heart is."
Belle inhaled deeply, wanting to recompose the faster she could, or the crying would possess her for hours perhaps. Such sorrow was so big that almost didn't fit within her anymore.
As she walked along the couple back to the village, the lass found herself dizzy of overthinking, reliving memoirs, still swallowing bitterly the violence Naraku has committed. Ailyn could be alive now, still Annabelle's soul grieved and the pain felt heavy. It wasn't only about the instincts flowered by the jewel, that sensation was far too deep and corrosive, exploding within.
Hours had passed, days have gone by and that agony persisted so intense that she felt it almost palpable. Anna distracted herself in all ways she could. After finishing to sew a dress she started to make another one, Sango and Miroku showed themselves more friendly than before and Shippo never ceased to be, since Kagome wasn't there to offer her lap, the little fox came several times searching for the foreigner's and she always received him with good will. Anna interacted well with the villagers and with Kaede, sometimes she followed the old lady who enjoyed telling some adventures from her youth while collecting herbs, but when she would go too further into the past and mention Kikyo's cares for Onigumo, that feeling of ache in the chest and the hardship to breathe possessed the Scottish lass one more of countless times.
When she already got tired of interact and felt an excruciating need to be alone in silence so she could deal with her ghosts, Annabelle walked by the village's surroundings, went to the well to make a wish and from there the lass walked to the stream and bathed. At last, after five days of Ailyn, Kagome and Inuyasha's departure, she dared to go to the infamous cave where a moribund bandit has been sheltered not much more than a half century ago.
Thick saliva went down her throat, she almost choked. Anna grabbed firmly the basket she was carrying between one arm and her waist, the fruits shook inside. Even the wind contouring the gap between rocks felt morbid, the air was dense.
Annabelle breathed in deeply and faced such bad feelings. Her steps fastened till she got inside that humid locus. As soon as the lass was in, she has noted the single corner on that small place where no plant grew ever again and her legs leaded to an enclosure. Her chest was raising and falling in racing breaths, although it was cold into that cave, her skin couldn't stop sweating.
Annabelle believed her mind was tricking her senses when she saw a shadow emerging from one stony wall. It could only be her nervousness working, she thought, taking another long breath and closing her eyes for a moment while trying to control the crazy heartbeats. When the turquoises opened wide, her shock was so big that the basket slipped from her hands and the fruits spread over the ground.
"Naraku!" Anna shouted. The hanyo seemed to cross the wall like a spectrum and was there, right in front of her, with his feet over the dark piece of earth where not a single leave could grow. Red eyes were pierced on her, never blinking, two shinning rubies, mysterious and cursed. She felt like a Vulcan, ready to erupt, was boiling deep inside her guts, an incandescent fury consuming her core.
To be continued...

Hi, everyone!
So, I wanted to share with you some of my thoughts about our favorite villain of all times, Naraku.
In the manga, plus series it is dubious how his feelings about Kikyo work. It sounds cloudy to me how Naraku and Onigumo differ themselves, where one ends and the other starts. When Naraku separates from his heart, in the cannon it sounds like he is giving up the human part of him. After all, Naraku is composed by multiple beings, one human and the rest all demons, and the piece of him who loved Kikyo was just Onigumo.
But what if each part of him has learned to be devoted to someone? Would getting rid of his heart be enough, when we understand "heart" as human nature? Doesn't every single creature who compose his being have a heart of itself? And being separated from his heart doesn't make it stop to exist, right? Well, these are my divagations, I hope you have understood my point. Naraku is such a complex character, that's why I like him so much...
Oh, and the chapter's title is somehow about these reflections of mine. "Engraved everywhere" because even if his heart is away from his body, there are things that are buried so deep within one's core, that only losing it's own self those feelings may fade away. So, he has to sell his soul to the devil, in this case, to Shikon no Tama which is the same in a sort of way... Does it make sense?
See you soon, kissuuus!!!
