Sesshoumaru kept his stockic face but Morgan could see the tension that made his body ridgid. She couldn't blame him. Ceara hadn't shut up once. Normally, Ceara was an excilent story teller and teacher but she was also the biggest whinner and whine is what she did. She complained about the food, traveling too fast or too slow, that the cat smelled or Rin and Morgan were too skinny...she complained about everything. Both Cory and Morgan were thanking the heavens that Ceara spoke in their native tongue for some of the complants she said about the demon lord would probably have gotten her killed already.
Ceara wasn't the only problem. Cory was as well. If Morgan was uncertain whether or not Cory was attracted to the little Rin, she was certain of it now. Never had Morgan seen Cory so enthusiastic about hunting and he always made sure Rin was fed first and he was always near her. Normally, Morgan would have teased her cousin fovingving a crush but she was concerned. Cory's attentions hadn't gone unnoticed by Sesshoumaru and he was now watching the younger male with a meanicing glare. Cory was stupid enough not to notice. Morgan would have to talk to him once they were alone and warn him of the dangers he was putting himself into.
Other than that, the journey was uneventful and rather peaceful. A little to dull for Morgan's taste but still pleasent. Still, Morgan was relieved when they came to a clearing that apparently belonged to Sesshoumaru's brother. She was surprised when she saw the house. Most of the japanese homes she had seen had been small, only big enough for one room but this one was large. Big enough for a large family. It seem to have a western influence to it but Morgan thought it couincidence and didn't say anything.
They landed at the edge of the clearing, giving the halfbreed inside enough time to notice their scent. Sesshoumaru waisted no time and walked toward the home with usual grace that made Morgan wto sto smack him. She was suppose to be more graceful, she was the female. Rin was close on his heals. The wolfs on the other hand, were wary. This was new territory and despite it's beauty, it could be hiding untold dangers. Even Ceara had shut up as she let the two youngsters exaimine the area.
The door opened and the wolfs instintly tensed.
A young man stood in the doorway and greeted the lord and the young Rin. He was wearing what they had come to learn as the garments of a holy man and he radiated power. They had felt more powerful auras but that didn't mean that this man couldn't hurt them. Their first instinct was to run away but they had made a promise to help. They stayed at the edge of the lake, watching the monk with caution and waiting orders.
The monk looked at them, his eyes doubtful before yelling for the Inuyasha that had learned to be Sesshoumaru's brother. The hanyou, as they had learned, appeared almost out of thin air, no doubt he had been waiting anxiously for Sesshoumaru to arrive. Neither Morgan or Cory had ever seen a halfbreed before and though they weren't surprised by his appearance, he wasn't what they were expecting. He looked much like Lord Sesshoumaru with rougher features and dog ears instead of the pointed elvin ears most pure bloods possessed. But that wasn't what surprised them. What surprised them was that they could sense his strength. Despite being a half breed, he carried himself like a pure blood. He would be a force to reckon with, despite his breeding.
Again, the wolfs grew uncertain, especially when Inuyasha turned to glare at them. Obviously, he did not like the fact that strangers had tresspassed in his lands. His eyes lost their hostile edge when Sesshoumaru told him that they were here to help but they still stiffened when he approached.
His eyes studied all of them before settling on Ceara.
Can you really help him?" he asked.
The tension left them with that question. The threat was replaced with the grief of a father.
Ceara shrugged.
"That depends on the nature of the illness," she explained. "If it is what I think it is, then yes, I can help."
Inuyasha's face seemed to brighten but turned threatening before turning his eyes on them
"And you, too?"
For three days, Morgan had remained quiet in favor of having peaceful trip but now she spoke up.
"We're here to assist her when needed."
Inuyasha studied her and Morgan forced her eyes down. The last thing she needed was him seeing her as a threat. Inuyasha still seemed hesitatent but a weak baby cry distracted him from his fears.
"Follow me," he ordered and led them into the house.
The three wolfs followed but they put as much space between them and the monk when they passed. He looked coed aed and looked to Sesshoumaru for answers but he was ignored as Sesshoumaru also followed Inuyasha.
Despite the rise in temperature, there was a small fire burning in the hearth and an ancient woman sat on her knees, drinking a cup of tea. She looked tired and worried but she greeted them with a nod.
"Thank ye for coming," she softly said and the three nodded in return as they slipped passed.
Inuyasha led them to a room at the back of the hall where the bcry cry was louder and the voices of two women could be heard. Inuyasha opened the door and held it opened as the others entered. Sesshoumaru took it from him and closed it firmly as Inuyasha went to his wife.
All three wolves back toward the door when they saw the two young mothers. One was trying to hold a toddler still as she changed her but she was of no concern to them. The other, Inuyasha's mate, was on the other hand. She was young, tired, and full of worry but also full of power. Never had they sensed such power and all wanted to bolt. The only thing that kept them from doing so was Sesshoumaru's pressence behind them. A priestess's power they could outrun but the lord of the lands they lived on could easily catch them.
Morgan bit her lip and she looked to Cory for help. This woman was their sworn enemy but clearly the mother to the pup they promised to help. But by helping the offspring of their enemy, didn't they betray all those that had fallen at the lands of the priesthood? Morgan didn't know what to do and by the look on Cory's face, neither did he. Ceara on the other hand, knew exactly what to do.
"We've promised to help and we keep our promises," she told them.
"Then why aren't you moving?" Cory asked.
"Fear," she confessed and that seemed to break her out of it. Slowly, Ceara made her way to the couple. She nodded to the women who had picked up her daughter and was watching her cautiously. She nodded in return and seemed to relaxe but kept her eyes on the old wolf, not yet trusting her.
When Ceara reached the couple, she lowered herself to her knees. Her eyes didn't leave the worried mother but put herself closer to Inuyasha, and closer to his claws if he felt her a threat.
The pup was crying, but he smelt dry so he was either hungry or in distress. Ceara knew it was both.
"Cau heu help him?" Kagome asked.
Ceara cracked a smile. "I can try."
Kagome sniffled but willing put her pup in Ceara's old arms. The baby cried louder, not liking the loss of his mother's arms. He ignored Inuyasha's comforting growls that only those with youkai blood could hear but continued crying with weak whimpers. Kagome was shaking but she didn't reach for her pup as Ceara began to examine his weak body. It didn't take her long and she quickly put the pup back into Kagome's waiting arms. She gave him her beast to calm him.
"How much meat do you eat?" Ceara asked.
"What?" Kagome looked up from her son to Ceara.
"How much meat do you eat?"
"I eat whatever Inuyasha brings me."
Ceara looked to Inuyasha.
"I bring her fish everyday and occasonally, dear or boar. I gave her that everyday when she was pregnant, aft after Kaori was born, I went back to fish."
Ceara's smile got bigger.
"I t"I thought so." She looked over to Morgan and Cory who remained at the door with Sesshoumaru behind them. Morgan hadn't d bud but Cory had turned slightly when Kagome started nursing and was focusing on his tatterd sleeve. "I need you two to hunt for deer or boar."
"I did the hunting last night," Cory argued, "It's Morgan's turn."
"I said both of you. The mother needs more than fish."
"So it is malnurishment?" Morgan d.
d.
Ceara nodded
"Then the pup will survive?"
"If you two will hunt, yes."
Morgan nodded her understanding and dragged her cousin out the door. Sesshoumaru stared curiously at them but let them pass.
"Where are they going?" Inuyasha asked.
"The pups are going to get meat."
"Is that why my son had been sick?" Kagome asked. "Because I'm not eating enought to eat?"
"Yes, but don't blame yourselves." Ceara comforted, "You did eat enough to sustain a human pup but not one with..."
"Youkai," Sesshoumaru growled.
"Yes, youkai blood."
"But he'll live now?"
Hope radiated in the parents' eyes and Ceara shifted uncomfortably.
"There is a strong chance that he will live since we came so soon but I won't lie. Sometimes, no matter what we do, they still die."
At that moment, Kagome flinched then switched Kaori to her other breast.
Ceara's smile returned.
"But as spirited as that one is, I'm sure he'll be fine."
~~
"Are we doing the right thing?" Cory asked as they stepped out of the house. The monk was sitting on a bench next to the wall and he nodded to them.
They nodded back in respect but kept their distance as they headed into the woods.
"Of course we are." Morgan answered, "We are saving a pup."
"But, she is are enemy."
Morgan sighed and she looked to the trees. They were full now that summer was here and they gave enough shade to keep them cool as they began their search of a game trail. They quickly found one since they were so close to water.
"I don't kow,"she answered honestly, "But I do know that the priestess of our country would have killed us on sight instead of letting us help their offspring."
"And they wouldn't have mated a halfbreed." Cory added.
"Correct, now shall we hunt."
Cory growled. "I really hate hunting in the heat of day."
"I'm sure Rin would be thankful for it."
As Morgan had suspected, the mention of Rin silenced Cory's complaints and they continued their hunt in silence. It took a while to find a fresh scent since most of the prey had gone into hiding to wait out the heat and even the fresh scent was a few hours old. Since it was the only lead, they followed it. It took an hour before they reached the deer, a young buck just barely in his prime. It had been resting in a thicket and didn't even sense the demons until they were upon it. The kill was quick and clean. Morgan took the chore of cleaning it but held onto the heart and liver as Cory threw the carcuss over his shoulder as he sped off toward the clearing.
Sesshoumaru and the kit, Shippo was waiting for them when they reached ihe the two made little notice of them when they entered the clearing but went to the lake as they began skinning and dividing the meat into sections. The chore was a dayly process for them and they quickly set into the familar rythm. As Cory divided the meat, Morgan worked on the hyde. She carefully cleaned it with her claws, with full intent on taking it back to the pack. There were growing pups and someone would need it for clothes or maybe a blanket. She first thought about leaving it with Inuyasha and his mate since the deer was killed on his land but she doubted they needed it.
At one point, Shippo made his way over to them, drawn by the scent of the kill and his own curiousity. To appease him, Cory gave him a small piece of meat and let him watch as he fed. He apparently didn't care for raw meat as most demons did, probably because he was being raised by a human but he ate it without complaint as he watched. When they were done, Morgan went to Ceara to ask what she wanted to be done with it.
The heart and liver were to made into soup and the rest of the meat cooked for everyone. Cory made a face at this. He hated cooked meat and had been eating it for the past three days. Morgan didn't mind it as much and she would eat it without complaint. Sesshoumaru on the other hand...She hadn't seen him eat with them though they always were sure they left him some. Every morning the meat would be gone but the fire would be cold. It was clear to Morgan that Sesshoumaru only ate raw meat and waited until they-Rin-was asleepore ore eating. Morgan couldn't help but smile at this and set some pieces aside for her cousin and the lord in the deer hyde. She would give it to them later tonight.
The day passed slowly. After the hunt and cleaning, the two young demons had nothing to do and remained at a distance from the the monk, Miroku, who stayed close to the house. He did try to oachoach them once but he apparently sensed their unease and left them alone. Rin spent her time with the woman, Sango and her daughter Kameko, leaving Cory to stare off after her and Morgan wondering whether or not to tell him to leave her alone. Ceara stayed with Kagome and Kaori and Inuyasha stay with them, not yet trusting them enough to leave his mate and pup unguarded. And Sesshoumaru sat on the branches of a tree, hiden in shadow and watching everything. He looked as board as the wolves felt but they didn't try to socialize with him. Morgan knew first hand how frustrating that could be, so she ignored him as she cooled her feet in the lake and kept her back to him. Although, she could swear he was watching her but every time she turned to catch him in the act, he would be staring at something else leaving her to wonder if she was being paranoide or hopeful.
The evening was more enjoyable. Kagome didn't like her soup and the os dis didn't really care for the meat. They kept saying it needed something, which in truth, it probably did since the monk had cooked it. Kaede had been too tired to cook and Sango had her hands full with Kameko, even if Rin had been with her. Cory didn't know how to cook and both he and Ceara had protested Morgan's cooking and Morgan had protest Ceara's cooking. At least with Miroku cooking, it was edible.
With food to calm them, the tension between the humans and youkai had eased. And with Kagome and Inuyasha being hopeful instead of solumn, the mood was light. They all, except Sesshoumaru, exchanged tales and laughed among themselves. Soon, the wolves forgot the fact that they were among a monk and two priestesses but felt like they were among friends.
The night soon grew late and with their stomaches full, the humans began to grow tired. The youkai could stay up much longer, but being content, they felt lazy and silently agreed to follow the human's example. Inuyasha gave the three extra bedroom to split among themselves and Shippo would sleep with them as he had been when Kaori first started to get sick. They gave Miroku and his family Shippo's room and one room would be for the rest of the females and the last room would be for Cory and Sesshoumaru. Cory immediatly looked uncomfortable but Sesshoumaru solved that problem by leaving. He had been silent the entire evening, only sp whe when spoken to. He had clearly been keeping an eye on Rin but since Rin would be sleeping with both Ceara, Kaede, and Morgan, he apparently felt it safe to leave. Morgan would have given some comment but since Cory seemed so relieved and since the mood had finally calmed after a day of tension, she let it go. No sense in troublingut sut something that couldn't be changed. With that in mind, Morgan followed the others to bed.
She only slept a few hours and when she woke, it was after midnight. The others rested peacefully in the room. She could clearly tell apart the different breathing patterns. Both Kaede's and Ceara's were rough, making Morgan worry. Both of them were so old that she doubted they would last long. Ceara might last another decade since she was a youkai but Kaede was human. Morgan suspected the old woman wouldn't last through another winter.
Despite the hour, Morgan was fully awake and not sure to what woke her but considering how fast her heart was beating, she suspected it to be a dream but she couldn't remember what she dreamed about but judging by the slight wetness between her legs, she could guess.
Supressing a growl, Morgan rose from the floor. Being careful not to wake anyone, she made her way out of the house. She guessed she could consider herself lucky. If she had been with her pack, the scent would have woken a few of the others, leaving them the choice of teasing her or trying to seduce her. Morgan growled at that thought. There were two wolves that wanted to make her theirs, strickly because she was daughter to the alfa. Both were lazy, fat, and stupid but that didn't piss her off. What pissed her off was that they thought she was like some of the others, who gave themselves to the first male who should an interest. Granted sometimes, it worked out but Morgan knew some females from other packs that were miserable due to their instinct, or fear of being alone. Morgan wasn't like that. She wanted to be mated to a male who loved her. Not just because she was pretty or because of who she was.
Morgan made her way to the lake. Its waters were calm and reflected the half moon and stars. It looked too tempting and since she hadn't been able to bathe since the start of their journey, she couldn't pass this up. Morgan rose her hands to the hem of her shirt but paused before looking around. Shuldnuldn't sense anyone but it was better safe than sorry. The house was dark and other than the breathing she could faintly hear, all was quiet. The deer hyde was placed not too far from her, now emty. Sometime earlier, Sesshoumaru had taken her offering. The woods were also dark and peaceful despite the chirps of night bugs. She suspected Sesshoumaru was out there somewhere but she suspected that he was sleeping. Morgan bit her lip. Not that she would mind if he wasn't.
Morgan's face formed into a snarl when she realized what she just thought and she jerked her shirt over her head. She was lucky she didn't rip it but that thought was furthest from her mind as she scowlded herself for her thought. She admitted she was attracted to the lord and she suspected that he was attracked to her but that didn't mean he wanted her. There were plently of nobles that would be none the happier to have him. And even if he wanted her. That didn't mean he loved her and Morgan refused to throw herself into a union with out love. Her father had taught her that much.
With that calming her, Morgan finished and slipped into the lake. She sucked in a breath at how cold it was but she didn't hesitate as she make her way to the waterfall. She smiled when she reached it and ed hed her hands under it and slashed it on her face. None of the ponds and lakes near her cave or even near their cave in Ireland had a waterfall and the water was strangely refreshing but that could be just becasue it was new to her. But it didn't matter. After three days, Morgan was alone and she could now have her bath.
Morgan bathed herself at a slow lesurily pace. Enjoying the feel of the water against her skin. She scrubbed the dirt away and crushed some flowers before rubbing them on her skin. The scent was faint but enjoyable and much better than the dirt and blood that had been lingering on her. What must the lords think of her, seeing her covered in dirt and a lingering scent of blood on her? They probably thought she was a wild beast. Morgan chuckled. She wasn't a beast but she had been told she was wild by her aunt and sister. None of them would bath alone but Morgan was never afraid to. She always felt safe. Even here, in this strange land.
Morgan sighed in content as the water poured over her head and through her hair. The force of the waterfall maybe a little too much for a human but for her, the pounding soothed her muscles and relaxed the ache that came from sleeping on hard ground. She wasn't fond of aristocates but she did envy their soft beds, or here, their futons.
Morgan turned around so the water could hit directly on her shoulders and slightly opened her eyes. They shot opened when she saw who was standing on the bank. Instinatly, Morgan covered her self with her arms and started fearfully at the lord. Why hadn't she sensed him? Her sister was right. It was foolish to bathe alone.
Morgan never broke eyes contect with Sesshoumaru. Her eyes were wide with shock and his were narrow with an emotion she had never seen before. At least, never directed at her. It scared and excited her at the same time. It never dawned on her to yell at him for spying or to even lower herself into the water. She just stood there and so did he.
She didn't know how long they stood there but slowly, she began to calm and realize that Sesshoumaru's eyes were glowing a dark amber and that his body had tensed. Slowly, almost afraid to, she lowered his eyes. Any doubt she had about his being attracted to her vanished. A knot formed in her throat and she stepped deeper into the waterfall. She didn't know why, she knew it was stupid but she couldn't help it and wasn't surprised when her back met hard rock. She expected it to cause her fear to spike but it didn't. Instead, it calmed her almost completely.
Morgan was attracted to him thought she wasn't sure if it was because she had started to love him or just animalist lust and it was obvious that he was attracted to her. She wasn't going to give into him. If he decided that he was going to claim her, he had a fight on his hands. If he beat her, she would let him. It was primitive and against every standard she had set for herself but Sesshoumaru was better then the pathetic wolves that have been trying to court her. Yes, he was much better. Unfortunately, unlike wolves, dogs only mated for life when they chose to. Still, she would be bonded to him and could make his life a living hell if she chose to. And she suposed, it wouldn't be bad to mate with him. Morgan bit her lip. No, not bad at all.
Making her decision, Morgan stepped out of the waterfall and met his glare with one of her own but her glare was a challenge, not a glare of lust, though she was sure some of her attraction had made her way to him.
He growled at her. Instinct told her to growl back but, new to this, she remained silent and treated this as she would a battle. She rose her power. It was a power she rarely used. She had mastered it at a young age and deciding it was mostly show and little action, she rarely used it in favor in trying to master her electric techniques, which she still needed to work onut Sut Sesshoumaru didn't know that and it would either, scare him away, or challenge him more.
The calm water began to ripple and soon small waterspouts began circling her. Little they were, but their power was great. Water rose and rollowed the spouts, forming a barrier between her and the lord. Morgan had once been standing in waist deep water but now she was standing on dry land and the lower pantlegs of Sesshoumaru's hakama was soaked, still he did not move but continued to watch her, though there was curiousity in his eyes now. Morgan's eyes narrowed. She wished he would do something. Even if he came after her, it was be tha than him just standing there. Hell, even showing a bit more emotion would be better. Well, she'd give him a reason to do something.
Morgan knew her eyes glowed red, it was something she usually tried to surpress, but at this point, she didn't really care. She called upon more of her power, calling upon it from deep with herself. The wind picked up in response causing the circle of water to become more wild, more violent. Waves crashed upon the earth, breaking it up and threatening the lord. Still, no response. She had one more trick but it required her to use her hands. She hesitated but he couldn't really see her with how wild the water was flowing between them, so, it should be safe. Forcing her insecuirities aside before it broke her consintration, Morgan lowered her arms then rose them to her side. She knew she looked like Chirst on the cross but it was the only way she could do this without the risk of hurting Sesshoumaru. Afterall, she only wanted a reaction. She felt the energy gather in her hands. It hurt a bit but she was used to it and she forced it into the water around her. Lightning shot through her hands, a little harder than she intended but it never went beyound the barrier of water. Now the lightening danced between the waves become a perfect mixture of water and white fire. Morgan couldn't help but smirk at her success and she forced the barrier outward.
Sesshoumaru continued to stand there, his passive mask once again in place. Not even the lustfull glare was there. It pissed Morgan off. Why did he have to be so passive? Here she was, threatening his life and he was doing noting. She knew there was emotion in him. She had seen it. The glare from before was a perfect example of one. He had looked at her in anger and his body and responded to her pressence. Why couldn't he just act out his emotions like her, like her pack, like Rin, like his brother? Didn't he have any passion?
Morgan couldn't help but growl, low and meanicing, and the barrier began to grow even more outward. Land that was once dry was now soaked and the barrier was being pushed dangerously close to Sesshoumaru's body. If the barrier had just been water, it was realitibly harmless to a youkai. They would be caught up in the current and battered but there was little thref drf drowing but with the lightning dancing through it there was little chance of survival. Morgan began to sweat. This had become more than just a challenge to get a reaction out of him. This had become a battle of wills.
She pushed the barrier again.
Sesshoumaru's hair and clothes began to get blown back from the force the barrier created but still Sesshoumaru stood there. Morgan stopped the barrier a little over a foot from him. She had lost. She knew that now. She wasn't going to get any reaction from him, not unless she actually tried to take his life and she could never do that. She loved him. Somewhere between seeing him the first time with Rin and now, she had fallen in love with him. Why? she mentally screamed. He's nothing but a statue.
Choking on a sob, Morgan lowered the barrier and sank to her knees. The water lowered and recieded, the only trace of it ever being was the soaked grown and scattered water lillies. Morgan covered herself again and shook with the aftereffects of using so much power and the force of her emotions. He wouldn't break down like this. He would't let his emotions force him to his knees.
Morgan gritted her teeth and waited for him to do whatever he was going to do. Nothing came and after what seemed like forever, Morgan got a hold of herself and slowly rose her eyes. Her eyes widened with surprise when she saw that he was gone. She searched the treeline, looking a g a glimpse of white but he was gone without a trace. Tears spilled down her cheeks. She didn't know what this meant. It could be rejection or he was waiting for something. She prayed to god it wasn't the first.
~
Sesshoumaru hadn't known what he was thicking when he should himself to her. He had spot her coming from the house, looking restless and content at the same time and with a faint trace of arousal coming from her. It almost broke him and it had only been a faint scent and without a trace of her heat. Surprisenly though, it haen men more alluring.
He knew what she was going to do and he had told himself to leave. That he was above watching women bathe but he couldn't seem to move from his branch in the shadows, which as fate would have it, was down wind and gave him a perfect view of the lake. He had to dig his claws into the tree when she unknowingly began to rl hel her skin to him. What was with this woman that got to him so? Yes, she was beautiful but he had seen better and she was rude, loud, and emotional. Nothing he wanted in a mate, yet none of those he expected to be attracted to had ever effect him like this. None had ever put a fire in his blood and made him wish he could forget social standards.
She was beautiful in the moonlight. Her skin was tan from centuries in the sun but the moon turned her skin into mily white and made the gold hightlight in her hair stand out. He liked her hair in the firelight better. She didn't know but he had been staring at it as she ate and talked. He had never seen hair turn into fire the way hers had. Both the gold and the red stood out in the light and it too seemed to dance. It was amazing what light could do. In the sunlight, her hair seemed more bronze then red.
His breathing had deeped as he watched her bath. He had been right. She was all legs but he had always liked long legs. Her breast her a little bigger than he had suspected, probably due to the strange binging she had on, but they were full and firm and her waist was flat and lined with the slightest trace of muscle. Most would have said she was as skinny as a twig and appeared weak but he knew she was stronger than most nobles he had seen despite her appearance and if she wasn't strong, she did have power. She was the only one of her pack to make him fall. But that wasn't what he was thinking about. He wasn't really thinking anything except how easily she could wrap her legs around him, or how she would fit so tightly against him. He unknowingly went for a closer look.
He was acting like an immuture adolescent who got scent of a female in heat for the first time and he knew it but reason and caution had been thrown to the wind. He had to have a closer look.
She looked peaceful, bathing under the waterfall and he could hear the growls of contentment and pleasure that she unknowingly released from deep in her throat. Sesshoumaru's eyes trailed down the curve of her back. Most of it was covered by her unbound hair but he could faintly make out the image of tree branches on her shoulderblades. Her family mark was on her back. That meant her family was old or she was a decendent of a noble.
He was contemplateing that as he admired the curve of her bottom, just peeking above the water level when she turned and looked at him.
He remained standing there and appeared passive when every part of him wanted to o heo her. He expected her surprise and her fear. He even expected her to retreat into the waterfall. These actions were helping to calm but but then she met his glare with one of her own. She had challenged him at that point. Demanding he prove his worth. He couldn't help but growl his exceptance. He had expected her to growl back but she hadn't. If she had, he would have attacked, forcing her to either fight, run or submit. She would have fought, he knew that and they would have both been tattered and bloody and he would have taken her on the rocks in bloody water. It didn't follow the rules of courtship but it followed instinct which came with it's own set of rules: fight the female, beat the female, claim the female. It was still done by the lower class youkai that didn't have to worry about male competion but females had to worry about strong genes. Few males met than none could prove their strength unless she fought or ran. If beaten or caught, they proved that they were at least stronger than her and therefore worthy.
He was stronger than her and would have won but she didn't growl back. There was a bit of incertanty in her scent mixed with slight arousal, as if she didn't know what to do but it quickly disappeared when shee upe up her mind. He was surprised to feel her power but didn't allow himself to show it. She had challenged him in another way but he suspected it was a power of will, not an attempt to get a reation out of him.
He had remained standing, forcing her to use her power and therefore testing her and his own will. Her power was amazing. Like Kagome's power, it was raw and wild and barely trained but she had focus. Even with the lightning, never didn't she damage anything.
He had seen the rage in her eyes when she expainded her barrier, threatening him but he had stayed and she had stopped. He wished she hadn't. She couldn't have known how beautiful she was with blood in her eyes and her face twisted with anger and consintration. She looked like she had been challenging him and offering herself to him and he wondered if she knew he had been able to see everything. The waves may have been wild but there had been gaps that aloud him to look.
He had won her challenge and had taken a step forward when she collapsed to her knees and smelt the tears in her eyes. He knew then he had misread something so he left her to deal with her inner termoil and to deal with his.
He was berating himself for watching her and losing control of his attraction to her but he had impressed him with her power. Unlike the other females he had encountered, she wouldn't weaken his bloodline and maybe, even strengthen it. He never thought he would find a potential mate in a wolf but Morgan had proved herself to him with her display of power.
But did he want Morgan?
Morgan, a wolf from a forgien land who had little manners and no control of her emotions? It would put the other nobles in a rage, especially the southern lord. He would looked down upon, laughed at maybe but maybe Morgan could prove herself to them as she had proven herself to him. The southern lord's party was in two weeks. It didn't give them a lot of time and he wasn't sure she would accept but it was worth a try.
Making up his mind, Sesshoumaru returned to his tree. Tomorrow, he would ask Morgan to accept his claim and in two weeks, introduce his mate to the nobles.
AN: Sorry for taking so long.
