Chapter
10-Answers
Rin sat
on the futon, surprised. Sesshoumaru, after laying on his futon for
nearly and hour, thinking, suddenly stood up and strode out the door.
Rin sat
there herself, staring at the exit before standing and following his
path out. Looking around at the doors between corridors, one at the
very end of the west wing was swung open. Sesshoumaru was obviously
there, looking at the shelves and shelves of scrolls and some other
leather bound-paper. ::1::
Taking
a chance, Rin entered the library and followed the sound of
Sesshoumaru’s footsteps, remaining as quiet as she possibly could,
until she found and nearly knocked into him.
Rin
took a step back to avoid collision and grunted. Immediately
regaining balance, She quickly bowed and gave a “Forgive me,
Sesshoumaru-sama, I did not watch where I was going.”
Sesshoumaru
looked impatiently at her and asked, “Yes?”
She
stood straight and said, “It’s just that you were hurt, and you
had just woken up, then you left so fast, and I”
“Naraku.”
“What?”
Naraku? What did he have to do with it? Rin couldn’t remember
where, but...Naraku...the Shadow! That Shadow it couldn’t be!
Naraku had been dead for years!
To Rin,
Naraku was a distant, faded memory, like a terrible nightmare on the
verge of collapsing in your mind. As tere ase as Naraku was, he was
so long ago his details were forgotten. His voice, the features of
his face, all Rin could remember was that he attempted to kill her
and Sesshoumaru and he was very evil.
“Naraku,”
he repeated, “It was Naraku in the Shadow.” He stared at her
blankly, as if expecting a girly gasp or an astonished “no”.
But she
didn’t, instead her mouth fell slightly ajar and her eyes slowly
fell to the floor. “Naraku.” she whispered. “How can he be...?”
Rin left it trailing and brought her eyes back to Sesshoumaru’s.
“That’s
what I’ll find out.”
“But how will you in the library.
Everything here’s ancient, no offense, and I don’t think anything
will help.”
Sesshoumaruisedised an eyebrow and said “My brother’s mate left a letter many
years ago that said something of their new whereabouts. And if anyone
knows what Naraku is doing here, it would be the people who killed
him.” ::2::
Before
she could stop herself she asked incredulously “Your asking for
help?” Clasping her hands to her mouth she looked to see what his
reaction was.
But he
had none and continued to walk past her and out of the library’s
door.
Flipping
around Rin spoke before he could leave, “Where are you going?”
HeP>He
stopped but did not look back. “I do not have the letter that the
miko left. I am going to the village he was so fond of.” he said
with distaste.
“Oh.”
Rin said sheepishly “Then I’m going with you.”
“Your
not.”
“Yes
I am.”
“Your
not.”
“Yes,
yes I am.”
“No
your not, it’s far too dangerous for you.”
“Dangerous!”
she yelled, “And it was dangerous eleven years ago but you still
let me go! What’s so different about this time? That I can protect
myself? That I don’t need you to tell me to breathe?” Rin felt
terrible for saying it, but she felt she had to. Sesshoumaru would
never see her as a grown woman, and capable of her own protection.
“You
never needed me to tell you to breathe. I know you can protect
yourself. But I don’t know how well. Naraku is not after you he’s
after me. If he should try to attack again, he would not hesitate to
use you as a barrier. That is why you can’t go.”
“But
I can protect myself! I did what
you couldn’t! I blasted him apart! Shouldn’t that count for
something? And how do you know he’s after you? He could’ve been
after me for all we know!” Rin still couldn’t stop the words from
pouring out of her mouth in a rush.
“If
he was after you, he would have killed you, not left you inside. I
admit you did what I couldn’t, but I cannot be sure that was you.”
“Wasn’t
me? I was there! You were there!”
“And
there was something else there. In your place.” By now, Sesshoumaru
had turned around and was walking quickly to her. He stood so close,
Rin had to crane her neck to look him the eye. Looming above her he
said coldly, “There was someone else. And you are not going.” As
if it was the end of the matter he flippe hel hell and turned to
leave her.
“Make
me.” She hissed in a tone matching Sesshoumaru’s own.
He
turned around this time, but fast enough to make Rin believe that he
was going to strike her. “Question me, Rin? That title has gotten
to your head. Never question this Sesshoumaru.” ::3::
“I
didn’t questyou,you, Sesshoumaru-sama.
I told you that I would go. And you cannot make me stay.
Keep me under lock and key, you’ve seen what I can do. You know
what I can do, no matter how much you deny it. It’s you who
questions me!” Rin was livid. How dare he! Sesshoumaru gave
up being her guardian and warden eleven years ago! If he wanted to
tell her to stay like a small child, she should have torn her
backbone from her when he was still ‘Sesshoumaru-sama, god’ to
her. But now she would not obey him without question. Her life no
longer revolved around him and his life. She had friends other then
in the palace. Sesshoumaru would no longer be her life.
"Do
as you please. But do not expect me to save you."
"I
won't."
He
didn't answer but left her, not waiting to be followed. Determined
not to go back on her words she hurriedly walked from the room and
out the door. "I'll show him." She whispered.
Rin had
to bring her armor slung over her shoulder to make sure that she left
quickly and Sesshoumaru did not leave her behind.
Worried
that he had already left, for she had to stop to pick up a small
supply of food.
Sesshoumaru
had not left, though but he stood next to Ah-Un waiting for her.
He
waited! She elated silently. Nearly smiling at the thought, Rin
ted ted Ah-Un and slung her pack in a pocket in Ah-Un's saddle.
"Th-thanks."
Rin said hesitantly.
Sesshoumaru only nodded and took off.
Watching Sesshoumaru's retreating figure, Rin smiled.
"And
I'm sorry too. But you don't need to that right now, do you? Come on,
Ah-Un! Let's follow!" Smacking the mount's hindquarters, they
took off, flying on Ah-Un's cloud, following Sesshoumaru's fading
figure.
