BlueDragon: I am sorry if the story seemed a bit rushed sometimes when I start a short story I get going and try to get everything in before I                      forget. As for the inconsistencies sometimes I end up getting introduced to people quite a few times so I guess that’s ok. As for two Rin’s well Rin could be a popular name. I am glad you like it though.

All readers: I hate it when people start a story and never finish it so I will do my best to make sure all of my stories get finished.

Chapter 9

Sesshomaru woke the next morning feeling more content than he could ever remember feeling in his life. He looked down at Kagome who was still asleep snuggled into his chest. She had a small smile on her face. He gently brushed aside a lock of hair that had fallen over her face as she slept. After he had lay down with her she had slept peacefully, it seemed that just by being there her nightmares had stopped. Somehow even in sleep he had managed to comfort her enough to keep the nightmares at bay. He could feel hope start to bloom in his chest. She had snuggled up to him and for some reason found comfort in him. Maybe she did feel the same way he did.

Sesshomaru continued to lay there watching her sleep, waiting for her to wake up. He was in no rush, he was perfectly happy to just lay here with her snuggled in his arms. After about half an hour she started to move a little but froze and groaned in pain. He tightened his arms a little being careful not to hurt her. She was probably still sore and he would bet she was stiff as well. He watched as her eyelids fluttered and slowly open to reveal her beautiful sapphire eyes. She snuggled her face into his chest again and tightened her arm around him.

He felt a brief moment of indecision and apprehension. He didn’t know what to expect. Would she regret her decision to cuddle up to him? Would she freak out? Slowly she raised her eyes to meet his and he felt his breath hitch. He could see so many emotions in her beautiful eyes. The main emotion he saw though had his heart pounding, he could see so much love deep in her eyes. It was like he could see all the way into her soul and it was beautiful.

“Good morning,” she whispered her eyes sparkling in the morning light.

“Good morning. How are you feeling?” he asked looking at her, worry plain on his face.

“Well I hurt like hell, and I feel really stiff, but I think I will survive,” she whispered giving him a heart stopping smile.

Then she looked down and he could feel the nervousness coming off her in waves. He put one hand under her chin and lifted her face to look at him.

“Is something bothering you?”

“I… uh … well you see I didn’t know if I offended you by cuddling up to you,” she replied worry evident in her voice.

So she was afraid that he would be mad at her for snuggling up to him? Even though he had been the one to pull her back when she started to move? Why would she think he would be mad? Then it struck him, when she had first moved to him he had tensed up. She must have figured he had not wanted the contact and only allowed it because of her injuries.

“Look at me Kagome,” he said softly. When she did he started to talk again, “You did not offend me. I was just a little startled.”

She looked into his eyes for a moment before smiling again. Before he could stop himself Sesshomaru leaned down slowly and pressed his lips to hers. She was still for a moment but then he felt her lips move as she kissed him back. He licked her bottom lip asking for entrance. She gasped and he took that moment to slip his tongue into her mouth. She tasted so sweet and he couldn’t resist the urge to explore her warm, wet cavern. He heard her let out a small moan and had to fight to keep himself under control. He put his hand to the back of her neck and tilted her head a little more so he could delve deeper into her wet cavern.

After a minute they finally had to part for air and he looked at her flushed face with admiration. Her eyes had a slightly hazy look to them and her breathing was still uneven. When her breathing evened out he gently cupped her face with one hand and looked into her eyes. She smiled at him and leaned up to give him a quick kiss, then she hissed and relaxed back into the bed.

“I will go make your tea,” Sesshomaru said leaning forward to kiss her on the forehead. Then he got up careful not to jostle the bed and smiled back at her before leaving the room.

He went down to the kitchen to make her tea with a smile on his face. She did have some feelings for him after all. He could still feel her warm, silky lips pressed against his. He made the tea for her the whole time thinking about what to do next. He wanted her to be his life mate, but he wasn’t sure if she would agree to it. Human’s were different, and she may think that they did not know each other well enough yet. She may not even feel the same pull on her soul that he did. He knew that the pull meant she was his soul mate, but did she know? He also needed to talk to her about that job for him. He really didn’t want her to have to go back to Sway. Kouga had been to close a call for him, and kami only knew how many other demon’s had the same ideas in their heads. He really hoped that she would agree to work for him, or even stay here as a full time nanny. Somewhere he knew she would be safe.

Kagome watched him leave still a little shocked. She smiled at him when he faced her. He had kissed her, he didn’t reject her. She could feel her heart soar. He did like her, it wasn’t one-sided after all. Maybe she stood a chance with him after all. She had been afraid that he would reject her this morning, especially after his initial reaction last night when she snuggled into him. She sighed with happiness and closed her eyes. She could still feel his warm, soft lips on hers and she could still taste his masculine taste in her mouth. She felt like her soul was connected to Sesshomaru’s and he was her perfect match. Sure, she didn’t know him very well, but she felt like she did. Besides after last night he had shown her some qualities that she knew were good for a relationship. He was protective, strong, and caring. He had saved her from Kouga and he had taken care of her all night. She felt happier than she had in such a long time. Now she needed to find a way to tell Sesshomaru. She knew they were meant to be, but she didn’t know how to tell him.

She was so deep in thought that she didn’t hear him come back into the room. He stood there watching her for a moment, she was so beautiful. Her aura emitted so much happiness and confusion that it was almost palpable. He walked up to her and handed her the tea.

“Are you ok?” he asked sitting next to her on the bed.

“I’m fine, just thinking,” she said taking a sip of her tea.

She sat there drinking her tea trying to think of what to say. She wanted to tell him thank you for saving her. She also wanted to tell him how she felt, but she couldn’t think of any way to ease into it.

After a few sips she decided to just go for it, “Sesshomaru, can I ask you a question?”

“Of course.”

“Do you feel something for me? I mean every time I am near you I feel an odd tugging in my soul trying to pull me to you.”

            Sesshomaru froze, so she did feel it, “Yes I do feel it. I was always told that when I felt it I would know it was my soul mate calling me.”

            “Soul mate? So that is why I feel like I have known you forever. I had a feeling that we belonged together,” she replied taking another sip of her tea.

            “So that information doesn’t bother you?” Sesshomaru asked surprised by her reaction.

            “No,” she said smiling at him. She took another sip of her tea, “Does it bother you?”

            “No, I was actually trying to find a way to tell you.”

            She smiled and cuddled up to his side, resting her head on his shoulder. “This feels so right, and last night when Kouga attacked me all I could think of was you. I called you to help me, I needed you.”

            He lightly wrapped his arms around her, pulling her closer to him, “I felt it. That is why I went out to check on you, I had a feeling that you were calling me, that something was wrong. I know that things are done differently for humans and you barely know me but I have to ask, Kagome, would you do me the honor of being my mate?”

            She smiled up at him, “I would love to be your mate. I know that we haven’t known each other that long, but I know what I need to.”

            “And what would that be?”

            “That you would be there for me, protect me, help me, and take care of me. I know that your heart is kind even if you choose not to show it. I also know that you will not judge me, especially after last night. You didn’t hold it against me that I was a stripper.”

            “Well I’m glad that you feel the same for me and that you accept my offer to be your mate. I need to tell you first, if you became my mate your life would become extended. You would live as long as I do. My kind mate for life, so there would be no going back.”

“I would never want to go back. I… I love you and I want to be with you forever,” she said blushing a little and snuggling closer to him.

“I do want to ask you for one thing though. Would you quit your job at Sway? Last night was to close a call and I don’t want to lose you. I thought if you want to that you could work for me looking over all files and checking for accounting errors or other problems, or as my wife you can stay home and watch the kids.” He said worried about her reaction.

“What about my rent? If I quit my job at Sway how will I pay it?” she asked looking up at him.

“You no longer have to worry about rent. As my soon to be mate you do not have to pay rent. I just want you to be happy and healthy,” he said giving her a chaste kiss on the lips.

“Really? You just want me to be happy? You don’t care if I work or not?” she asked near tears.

“No, I make plenty of money. We’re rich, it was Inuyasha’s idea to rent the room out.”

“Well, how about I stay home and take care of the kids and when you need help with files you can bring them home for me to look at,” she suggested kissing him, “I am not a needy person, I would like to at least earn a little money to buy things I want.”

He couldn’t help but smile at her. She had such a kind heart, even if they were mated she wouldn’t want to blow his money. However, he would want to give her everything she ever wanted. He wanted to give it all to her, not make her work for it. After she finished her tea he pulled her into his lap and wrapped his arms around her. She lay her head on his shoulder and sighed closing her eyes. Sesshomaru rested his head on top of hers, content to just have her in his arms.

“Kagome, there is no need to work for what you want. If I am to be your mate I want to give you everything you ever dreamed of. I want to take care of you and as an inu the feeling will only get stronger after we mate. You no longer have to work for everything you want because I want to give it to you.”

“I don’t want to be a burden…”

He cut her off quickly, “You would not be a burden, you would be my mate, mine to take care of, and mine to protect and love. And I would love nothing more than to give you your heart’s desire.”

He could smell the salt of her tears and started to get worried. Did he say something wrong?

“Kagome?”

“I’m sorry, it’s just that that was so sweet and I can’t help but feel that I don’t deserve you. I never thought that I would find anyone, let alone someone that thinks of me first and wants to take care of me.”

“Kagome, you deserve so much more. You are the kindest person I have ever known, you always think of others before yourself. You deserve everything I have to offer and more. It is I that does not deserve you.”

She bit her bottom lip and looked at him with tear filled eyes, “Really? Even after defiling my honor by working as a stripper?”

He put a finger under her chin and stroked her cheek with his thumb, “Really, and you only did what you had to to get by and to help your grandfather. There is no shame in that, you did it for an honorable reason.”

She smiled up at him and leaned up to kiss him. He didn’t think she was dirty for working as a stripper, he even thought that it was honorable. She licked his bottom lip and when he opened his mouth she let her tongue start to explore his mouth. One of his hands came up to the back of her head, tilting it slightly to deepen the kiss. She moaned as his tongue came out to battle hers quickly winning and thrusting his tongue into her mouth to explore. After a while they both pulled back for air, her breathing was fast and she could feel heat pool into her stomach.

“We must stop,” Sesshomaru panted out.

Kagome was shocked. Did she do something wrong? Was he rejecting her? Sesshomaru could sense her distress and quickly figured why.

“You are still injured, we will wait until you are better. If we don’t stop now I will not be able to,” he whispered in her ear, feeling her relax against him.

After a few minutes he felt her breathing even out and looked down to find her sleeping peacefully in his arms. He smiled as he looked down at her, she looked so beautiful. He sat there with her in his arms for over half an hour just watching her. Then he gently lay her down on the bed and got up to go make them some lunch. His smile never left his face as he made his way to the kitchen, never had he felt so happy. Soon he would have a mate and hopefully pups.
