Chap. 8
Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha nor do I make any profit from this story.
(A/N: just to make sure its clear, this scene jumps back and forth between Kagome's dream and the waking world. I have tried my best to make these transitions clear, but just in case, just know the paragraphs that are mostly in italic are her dream.)
Warning: There is a lemon in this chapter, although it is likely not the one you've been waiting for, only a teaser.
By the time Tamari returned to camp, all of its occupants were either asleep or relaxed. Inuyasha was awake, but did not react to her return, keeping his eyes closed. He apparently did not see her as a threat, whether because of how he perceived her as weak or her recent proximity. She landed silently in the branches of the tree above him and lightly rattled her wings. A sparkling powder floated down over the hanyou who was soon forced into a deep sleep. She then fluttered over to the rest of the group, sleeping away from Kagome, and repeated the procedure.
Her task complete, she settled down in the branches and thought about what Naraku had said, "Put all of them into a deep sleep, except Kagome. Then stand guard until I arrive."
She had nodded in agreement, but couldn't help but ask, "You won't hurt them, will you?"
He had chuckled at her concern, "Will you disobey me if I say I will?"
She lowered her head and responded dejectedly, "No."
"Good," he acknowledged, "but you will be glad to know, my business is with Kagome only. The others are merely obstacles that need incapacitated."
She didn't have to wait long until Naraku stepped out of the shadows, into the tranquil camp. Surveying the scene, he noted that Tamari had done as instructed and nodded in her direction before approaching Kagome. She was tossing and turning, radiating fear, obviously having a nightmare. He settled down against a tree trunk beside her. 'Let's see what frightens you so,' he thought as he placed a single digit to her temple, watching her dream play out like a movie.
She was running through a dark forest, perhaps fleeing from a demon, mumbling through exhausted breaths something about failing, and not understanding. Without warning, a figure appeared in front of her that he could not recognize. Before he could analyze the figure, more cropped up, surrounding the panicked girl. She drew her bow and began shooting them down. As her arrow made contact, instead of purifying the symbol-like figures, they floated down, shrunk in size, and plastered themselves to a type of parchment. Her accuracy was much better in her dream than in reality and soon they were all hit. She picked up the parchment but still had confusion written across her face. "I still don't understand!" she screamed into the dark nothingness of the forest. This caused the scene to change.
She was now in what appeared to be a sleeping chamber but it was decorated in the strangest fashion he'd ever seen. There was a raised futon covered in pink sheets, a fully transparent window obviously not made of the typical rice paper, a desk where she sat with the parchment, and countless other objects he couldn't recognize.
He decided to encourage the dream in the direction he desired. He placed a phantom version on himself into the scene and controlled it to approach her. On her desk was some bound parchment labeled "Algebra" that had several of the same symbols she had shot down in the forest earlier. 'Perhaps it's some kind of alchemical writings,' he mused. She didn't even notice he was there until he placed a hand on her shoulder.
She gave a deep, irritated sigh, "Inuyasha, I need to study." When the hand did not remove from her shoulder, she turned around, shock and fear written clearly on her face at the sight of him. "Naraku! How... What are you doing here?"
"You tell me, this is your dream," he mocked her. Sure, he could easily seduce her, but he wanted to see what she would do on her own, without any inhibitions or suggestions.
"Dream?" she repeated to herself, rising from her chair. "Of course it's a dream, you can't actually get through the well," she mumbled, mostly to herself.
"What will you do now?" he inquired, flashing a smirk and relinquishing control of his phantom to her.
This was one of those rare dreams where the person had near conscious control of their dream, where they could steer the events in any direction. Kagome was currently at one such crossroads. 'Why not?' she thought to herself, 'this is just a dream after all, not like anything is permanent here.'
Having made her decision, she approached him in an appraising manner. She had no reason to fear him in her dream afterall. She could do whatever she wanted with no repercussions, and no one would know either. Naraku watched the scene play out as Kagome took control shamelessly. His phantom merely watched her movements as she circled him like a predator, taking in every detail of his figure with a lustful glint in her eyes. She was controlling his phantom unconsciously, making him behave as she wanted or as she imagined he would.
Her small hands smoothed over the slick silk of his haori before fisting on either side and pulling it open. The ties that he knew to be there evaporated, causing no resistance. She pushed the material so it would slide off his muscular frame, down his strong arms, to pool on the floor. Her fingers hovered over the skin of his chest a moment before beginning their exploration.
Sitting beside her on the forest floor, Naraku found himself immensely pleased. It would seem that she had already begun to associate him with her own budding, sexual desires. In her mind, he was equated with her dire need for the substance she didn't even know he was giving her. In due time, her desperation would grow. She will be unable to keep herself in check and will do anything he asks just for a small taste.
Naraku returned his attention to her dream as her hands were snaking their way around his phantom's neck. She twisted his hair around her fingers then raised up on her tip-toes, pulling him down for a kiss. His lips felt so real against hers, every detail, every sensation. She could almost swear this was real and far from a dream.
She wasn't wrong. As she lay in her sleeping bag, Naraku leaned over her dreaming form and mirrored the actions in her mind. This kiss was the main reason he showed to begin with. He needed to give her another dose of his intoxicatingly, seductive miasma to keep her addiction strong.
With the added push of his intense aphrodisiac, the dream heated up rapidly. Naraku's phantom moved Kagome over to her bed, by her command, and lowered her down to the plush surface, all without breaking their kiss. His knee slid between hers, making her spread herself so he could settle between. Instinctively, she tangled her legs around his, melding their bodies together. At some point in their movements, their remaining clothes 'melted' away, leaving full skin on skin. His throbbing erecting pressed against her thigh as her hips swiveled against the powerful male above her. Her body was begging for more of his touch, yearning to feel him buried within her depths and sight the unimaginable pleasure etched across his typically malevolent face. Kagome arched her back into Naraku, an action that carried over into her sleeping form.
Naraku acknowledged as Kagome's sleeping form writhed inside her cocoonesque blankets as he continued to ravage her oral depths with his skillful tongue. Small moans escaped her lips, only to be swallowed by his. Her pleadingly wanton movements tempted him to shred the cloth covering her and take her, right in front of his unconscious enemies. He knew they would not awaken, even when she would undoubtedly scream out in ecstasy, but the thought of their shocked and loathing faces, should they see, excited him to no end. She shifted again in a way that allowed her scent to escape the confines of their encasement. The intensity of her arousal nearly caused his thinning control to snap.
He pulled away abruptly, he would not take her now, not in her sleep, but if he didn't leave soon, that decision could easily change. No, he wanted her awake, conscious, and fully aware when she gave herself to him. It would bring so much more satisfaction that way. He rose from his place on the forest floor and swiftly began walking away.
Before he left however, he gave one last command, "Kagura, use your wind to blow my scent clear of this camp, but do not disturb its occupants." She knew the consequence for disobedience and in no way wanted a repeat performance. He walked away, sure that she'd obey.
Kagome's dream sequence continued, despite the real Naraku's absence, long into the night. The mind really is a marvelous thing, making his touch feel incredibly real. She could still feel the residual burning trails his fingers caused against her flesh as well as the tremors of pleasure he subjected her body to. Her body was still heated, since fulfillment seemed to be constantly just out of reach, only adding to the intensity and frustration of her dream. When she finally did wake, from a small beam of light shining through the tree branches directly into her eyes, she still felt weighted down by the heady residuals. Begrudgingly, she forced herself awake anyways, knowing that Inuyasha would likely wish to get an early start.
It was a beautiful morning. The small beam of sunlight warmed her face as she stretched. The birds were singing, animals coming out of hiding, insects fluttering about, Inuyasha snoring. Her train of thought crashed, derailed by the sound she suddenly pin-pointed. Inuyasha was still asleep? She couldn't believe it. He was always the first up. Glancing around, she found the others to be just as peaceful.
"That's strange," she mumbled to herself quietly, so as not to wake them up, "Inuyasha is usually barking at us to hurry up at first light. Sango and Miroku rarely sleep this late either. "
"They'll be awake soon," Tamari answered Kagome's mumblings with annoyance in her tone. The voice came from above her and kagome looked up to find its source. The butterfly lay in the branches overhead, pulled and tied together with silken threads. Kagome only looked at her confused, wondering why she seemed upset.
"I guess if they are all still asleep than they must be exhausted and need a little more rest," Kagome called back quietly. It was refreshing being able to take her time in her morning routine. "I'll get breakfast started so it'll be ready for them when they wake." It seemed like this was going to be a good day. Kagome couldn't imagine anything dampening her cheerful mood as a large smile remained permanently plastered to her face.
Tamari debated on telling Kagome the reason for their longer than usual sleep, but still being a little bitter at the girl for receiving Naraku's attention, decided not to. It was blatantly clear to her now that Kagome had spoken the truth. She witnessed the entire exchange and had easily detected Naraku's excitement from her overhead perch. Ideally, this would be when she would return home to vent in peace, but her manipulative master directed her to remain with the very girl her ire was currently focused on. She would uphold her earlier pretenses, none of them need know that she was owned by him.
Inuyasha finally began stirring from his powder-induced slumber when the potent scent of cooking food permeated the camp. Kagome's happy humming was noticed soon after, causing his eyes to snap open. Last he knew, she had become a moody she-devil, lashing out at everyone around her. He feared that her cheerful demeanor was a calm before the storm, and if the degree of her good mood was any indication, it was going to be a massive storm.
Kagome heard the tentative rustle of clothing as Inuyasha stood. She turned a huge smile in his direction and greeted him, showing every bit of her delight, "Good morning, Inuyasha. Breakfast will be done soon. Could you wake the others for me?"
He eyed her suspiciously, contemplating the possibility that maybe the food was poisoned and this was some sick scheme before doing as she asked. Last thing he wanted to do was set her off. He kicked Miroku in the side, "Monk, wake up."
Miroku groggily rejoined the world of the living, but not without complaint, "Can't you be a little gentler, Inuyasha?"
"Feh, weakling," Inuyasha scoffed. "Wake the others and watch your step, Kagome's acting strange." He whispered the last part so said girl wouldn't hear.
Inuyasha's comment drew Miroku's attention to the gleeful girl, happily preparing a banquet of a breakfast for her dearest friends. Her behavior was certainly different than last night, but why? Maybe all she had needed was a good nights sleep. He'd keep an eye on her in hopes of discovering the reason.
Sango awoke to a stroking sensation. The touch was pleasant and her body readily responded, until she realized just what it was. Smack! Without even taking the time to verify her assailant, her hand flew deftly to the cheek if a certain pervert. The resounding smack then awoke Shippo and Kilala.
Kagome glanced back and giggled, wondering if the monk intentionally chose that method to wake all of them in a chain reaction. Nah, she was giving him too much credit. "Breakfast is ready!" she called, receiving unbelieving looks from most of her companions. They all skittishly circled around the center of camp, keeping Kagome in their peripheral vision at all times. "Let's see, there are rice balls stuffed with the veggies that I found yesterday and cooked cinnamon apple slices that are really good over the remaining rice. Dig in!" They all stared at her, frozen in their spots, fearing retaliation should they accept her offer.
"You certainly seem to be in a much better mood this morning, Lady Kagome," Miroku commented, venturing to relieve the tension from the group. He watched her expressions closely, but discreetly, as he mechanically selected a rice ball. Inuyasha was alert to the slightest change in Kagome's demeanor, ready to spring away in an instant.
"Yeah," she agreed casually, "I feel much better today." Her bright smile never faltered, telling Miroku that her glee was genuine. This was a relief to hear, for all of them.
Miroku commented on her mood again, this time forgetting to censor his lecherous thoughts, "If I didn't know better, I'd swear you must have gotten laid last night, Kagome." His gaze drifted over to Inuyasha questioningly.
All three of them, Kagome, Inuyasha, and Sango, went beat red and before Miroku even realized what he had said, he wound up with twin, stinging red handprints, one on each cheek, one from each girl.
"It's a good thing I know you better," he struggled to get out, his face hurting to talk.
"You lech," Inuyasha barked out his embarrassment at Miroku's hypothesis, "don't you ever think of anything else? Like I'd ever do that with Kagome."
At Inuyasha's thoughtless insult, all of them held their breathe, just waiting for Kagome to either explode in anger or sadness. When neither happened instantly, they were shocked and confused. Kagome wasn't sure if she should be mad at Inuyasha for his insult or let it go since he was, in his own crude way, defending her honor. Either way, she couldn't muster enough disdain to feel anything other than indifference. Her mood was way to bright to allow the likes of Inuyasha to darken it. Kagome simply shook her head at them, knowing they were waiting for a reaction, but flashed a cheerful smile right after.
"I did have a good dream though," she mentioned non-chalantly, but with a pleased smile. She was trying to figure out her own wild moods swings.
"Oh," Sango inquired, "what about?"
Kagome suddenly realized the predicament she accidentally got herself into. "Oh, it was... just, uhh," her face turned a deep crimson as she stumbled over her own words. "I passed a test, a really hard one." She answered unconvincingly, then quickly changed the subject. "If everyone is done eating we should get going." She rose and left the circle to gather up her things. Those remaining shared speculative glances before letting the subject drop.
(A/N: Now that you all know how Kagome reacts to her new addiction, referring to the withdrawls, I would like to hear my readers' preference on whether she gets over her addiction or not. I intend to follow the storyline on the anime, part in question is the long gap where Naraku disappears to Mt. Hakurei. Should she get over her addiction the long way, outlasting it during this stay, or in a much shorter time, such as having her powers clear it from her system. Last option, is she doesn't have the willpower or ability to get over it and becomes dependant on him. I have my preference, but have yet to decide exactly how angsty I want this to be.)
