"Yoru?" Motoko slowly came closer to the girl who was looking to the sea while little waves were wetting her feet.
"What must have happened to her?" Anguished, she sobbed some times, discretely crying.
"I don't know." The other girl touched one of her tremulous shoulders.
"That boy which I have spoken of, he wasn't human, my powers are not fully awoken, I couldn't fight against him..."
"You have shown bravery, you should feel proud of yourself!" Motoko tried to cheer her up. "He wasn't a boy, but a powerful yokai, you know it."
"What if he killed Shinrinko?!" Yoru put her hands over shaking lips.
"I doubt it!" The girl said convicted.
"How can you be so sure?" The youngest faced her friend, greyish teary eyes showed astonishment.
"Well, I use to visit lady Keiko's grave every morning, and each day, with every ray of sun that reaches the land, more flowers and grass grow all around, filling that place with life..."
"I don't understand, Motoko..." She lowered her head.
"I believe if there are flowers and birds bringing joy to that water hole, it is because Anaberu's flame hasn't been extinguished." Motoko emphasized the real name so the little girl could remember the lass' true identity.
"Then why do I feel inside my heart that she won't be coming back to us?!" She rubbed her soaked eyes.
"Sincerely, Yoru? I think she has always been only passing by. Her place is far, far away from here." Her words just worsened the child's condition, so she sighed and put an arm around the little one, pulling her closer. "Don't cry, we should be thankful for the moments we spent with her, and for the things she has taught to us."
"I know, I know..." Yoru released a sigh and closer her swollen eyes. "I pray that she is alright, wherever she may be, that someone achieve to do for her what we weren't able to..."

Sesshomaru's words were mixing with Hakudoshi's into her mind like endless echoes, sickening her senses. Soaked in sweat, Annabelle slapped her own ears as if somehow she could make that infernal buzzing stop, vanish away, yet the lass barely had strength to raise her arms, neither would she manage to erase her own fears.
Anna tried to lift her body, then fell over the baboon pelt, as wet as she was. She gasped, wanting to scream but her appeals came only in cracked murmurs.
A shadow covered the weak light which came from the cave's entrance. The woman lying on the white cloak gave all she had to throw her body ahead and raise her head to see who was approaching. Instead of a blurred little white figure, she saw the tall, unmistakable silhouette of his.
Naraku?! She sighed, at first feeling relieved for the enclosing presence was not Hakudoshi.
Then a sudden dread fell over her, as if someone could emerge from any corner to ambush him.
"No..." Anna whispered while he was calmly stepping closer. "Go away..."
Naraku kneeled by her side, not giving any importance to her pleading. Then he held her in his arms and covered the lass' frail body with the baboon pelt.
"He... he'll come back and..." hoarsely, she insisted on speaking.
"Hakudoshi is not coming back." His voice was deep and very direct. "Inuyasha and his friends have already taken care of him."
Her tired eyes widened a bit.
Old habits hardly change. The foreigner concluded, certain that the arachnid has prepared a trap to the boy and found a way to make his own enemies to execute it, for she knew him far too well to conjecture such scenery. And, his victory wasn't only about getting rid of his treacherous incarnation, but he also
had succeeded to collect the Shikon's shards Kagome was carrying, including the one which once has been kept into Annabelle's chest.
To be conscious of all those things could have embittered her, however, her reason made the lass ponder about another occasion. Not so long ago, Kagura has been in that cave, and now Naraku suddenly was showing up and had her in his arms, without a single obstacle.
"Kagura..." emotional, she mumbled.
"Yes, she told me about your whereabouts." He rose, carrying her along.
And you came to rescue me... a thick knot formed into her throat, hard to be swallowed. She was weak, yet lucid. Annabelle couldn't evade her gaze from his visage not for a single second.
Naraku took her off that cave and floated, bringing the frail woman under his protection, inside the spherical barrier. Nothing they said, and he rarely looked at her. Although the arachnid's body has all those new adornments which made him look less human than before and his eyes felt colder, something about him was still the same, Annabelle just couldn't find out exactly what it was.
The one who has murdered her first love and her sister in cold blood landed in an unknown place of that mountain covered by fog, then he rested her back against a rock. With sky-blue eyes closed, the lass was able to hear the sound of water flowing, then she heard pieces of clothes falling on the ground. Her eyelashes unsealed and Annabelle beheld Naraku naked right ahead. Her globes had recovered focus enough to distinguish the muscles and features she knew so well. Without all those layers of garments and bony armor, he still looked humanoid, except for the red orbs on his hands and the green tentacles on his back.
Her lips parted, ready to complain, and he just bended down to patiently untie the ribbons of her dress, then the ones of her corset. Step by step, the spider removed the pieces of such complex foreign gown.
"Don't..." Dizzy and waiting for the worst, Annabelle tried to resist.
The villain's arms evolved her once more and he got up, bringing the woman along while walking ahead. That specific waters' noise sounded closer. At last she understood what was happening.
Naraku entered with her in a hot spring. Carefully, the hanyo sheltered her body over his legs and slid his hands over her arms, shoulders and face, cleaning the dirt and the sweat. His fingers ran through ginger strands, brushing and washing them, then they went down her belly in soft, almost tender touches, stroking every mistreated centimeter of skin, inducing her to constrict the knees and stay in fetal position over his lap.
Anna's head felt heavy and rested on his firm chest, her resistance gradually faded. It could be that the torpor caused by the tea she has been forced to drink was making the lass give in easier than usually, he could never tell. Nevertheless, in that moment, receiving such sheltering caresses inside a pool of warm water, she let him wash her till every trace of Hakudoshi's wickedness vanished from her body.
After delicately cleaning the lass, Naraku was ready to get up with her, yet a hand softly touched his chest.
"Please... just a little bit." Anna whispered while gazing at him, looking melancholic.
A feeling of surprise finally made the red eyes show discreet expressiveness.
"Let me stay like this, just a while longer..." Anna circled his waist with her arms and snuggled into his embrace. Ebony hair was falling upon his shoulders and covering the lass like a black velvet curtain.
There was no jewel shard making her succumb to desire, and still something felt warm inside, attracting her to him, like a moth let itself to be deluded by the deadly beauty of the flame.
And Naraku, as tempted as he was to defile her right there, for his nature was still obscure enough to instigate him to take advantage of the others' vulnerability, just sheltered the frail human into his protective embrace instead.
Would it be possible, Annabelle, that you do not repulse me so? The arachnid wondered, arranging ginger locks behind her ears. His chin laid upon her troubled head, crimson eyes were half-sealed, appreciating a discreet sensation of warmness, as the thin, still weak whitish aura was being shared between them. She barely looked the same woman who has rejected him into Onigumo's cave.
Inevitably, the couple recalled all those days and nights they had spent together.
I missed your warmth. She dared to confess such secret only to herself, while caressing the green tentacles revolving on his back, replacing the spider mark. The lass almost forgot the horrible sins he had committed, she almost allowed her heart to be filled by old hopes. Still, resting her cheek against his chest, she listened nothing but morbid silence. Despite the apparent sweetness, nothing changed the fact that Naraku has chosen to embrace his monstrous side.
After a long time having her into his arms, at last the hanyo raised up, bringing the foreigner back to the big rock where he has left their clothes hanging. The arachnid would let Anna on her feet, then he noticed her legs vacillating and pulled her body against his again. Once more his fury towards Hakudoshi boiled within, the lass' condition was a consequence of that little demon's machination. Lucky of the boy being swallowed by Miroku's Kazaana or Naraku could have killed him in a much crueler way.
He laid the woman's back on the rock and began to dress her, layer after layer of such complicated garment, with no rush. She tried to help him, but her limbs were still tremulous and unresponsive.
As soon as the hanyo finished, he laid the lass over the baboon pelt between the high roots of a tree, then he put back his own clothes. Already covered by his fancy outfit, pieces of his own body began to carve the imponent armor again, and the huge red eye reopened in his abdomen.
"I will take you back to those people." On his feet, in front of the lass, he announced.
"No!" She rushed the answer, managing to raise her voice, even being so exhausted. He bewildered her reaction. "I... will... always be... a danger." Her chest went up and down, gasping, as blue eyes heavily rolled. "As long... as I have... any connection with you." Then she sadly looked at him.
Naraku breathed in deeply, no answer came to his mouth. Indeed he was the one who made the lass bear such cross. What could be said?
So he looked ahead, noting gazes into the forest, there were many famine yokai lurking the surroundings. The arachnid couldn't simply leave her alone in that place in such vulnerable state. In the end, with or without a heart into his chest, he still cared about her, maybe even more than he did when saving her from drowning.
Could that have been the moment when their bond has begun? They wondered as staring at each other. She, still laying upon his cloak, and him at last sitting by her side, resting his back on the wooden trunk. Annabelle was fighting against the sleepiness, she wanted to look at him for a while longer and try to unravel whichever he was thinking or feeling – if he still could feel anything at all. Oh, how she wished he did though...
"Rest" He advised serenely.
"You will leave..."
"Do you want me to stay? Even after everything?" A bit surprised, Naraku asked. Anna just nodded, also not able to understand her own desires.
Her arm lifted and her palm turned up, pointing fingers to the hanyo. Into her eyes, he could see a request for his hand. Slowly, Naraku's fingers slid over hers and then they entwined. The red orb on the back of his hand closed, tranquilized.
"Do you... still have any feelings for me?" Annabelle asked and squeezed his hand, not letting the spider mention to pull it away. Her strength was gradually returning, overcoming the reminiscent dizziness, even if it was for a few seconds.
That serenity blessing the hanyo's features would soon be replaced by annoyance and he would move away.
"If you do..." she continued before the arachnid could interrupt it. "Let Kagura go. That's... all I ask of you."
"Annabelle..."
"I believe..." Nearly falling asleep, Anna admitted to him and to herself: "I shouldn't, but I still believe in you." So her fingers lost strength and released his.
Naraku observed her features relaxing, the slumber finally took over the lass and her chest raised and lowered in slowness.
She... believes in me? He glanced at the treetop and sighed. His eyes looked troubled, yet his lips formed a tenuous and fleeting smile. So, after every horrid things he has done, there was a stubborn thread of hope surviving into her core, and the woman's heart wasn't fully tainted. Naraku saw himself feeling relieved of his own failure, and realized he has never really been engaged on breaking her to begin with, not even when he thought she gave him a reason to do so. Once Annabelle showed him a glimpse of tenderness again, the hanyo barely could think of the rage he felt for her surrendering to Kagewaki's spectre. How could she do such a thing, to perform little miracles inside of him?
Naraku thought about her request while rolling his eyes upon the sleeping lass, attentive to reminiscent signs of sorrow on her features, yet a gleam of innocence remained. She was strong, not only for her powers from birth, but for every other circumstance, like simply not losing the kindness, the belief, not completely at least.

Anna's eyes opened when the light touched her face. Rays of sun were crossing the pinkish dome around the tree where she has been sheltered. Still lying over the milky baboon pelt, she noticed there was no presence nearby, just her and her alone.
The woman sat, feeling a bit dizzy yet. On the other side of the barrier, slayed dismembered bodies of demons were spread around. The local flora decayed, the water from the spring was drained. No one needed to be a genius to realize that Naraku has used his skills to extinguish any possibility of danger before taking his leave.
He loves you. Anna recalled Kagome's words, then she pulled the cloak and held it tight.
Naraku has destroyed so many dreams and lives, finding delight on others' suffering, he sought sense on spreading chaos wherever he stepped on. Even in there, where once has been a place blessed by nature, now was a dark, silent desert because of the nefarious touch of his miasma. And yet, that same Naraku saved her in so many ways, she couldn't even guess for how many times. He has guarded her sleep, sheltered her into his strong arms in the hardest times, and after all things she has seen and lived with him, Anna realized that he had never truly abandoned her, like a shadow, the spider has always been around, even from afar, looking after her in the twisted ways he was used to. He was her tormentor, he was her guardian. Even without the jewel shard inside of her, the lass still felt deeply inclined towards the hanyo.
Am I so needy to the point of believing this is a real feeling? Her thoughts longed to sail against the tide, however her body was even more attached to the pelt pressed inside her arms. Annabelle sunk her nose on the cloak and she could swear to feel a remain of his scent in there.
"Tell me where you want to go and I will take you there." She heard him saying and lifted her head, filled of expectations that soon were frustrated. Anna identified a puppet of his emerging from behind a dry bush, he was dressing an equal cape as she was holding.
"I have no place to go." She got up and threw the pelt over her body.
"There is nothing to fear, Hakudoshi is gone."
"He was just one of the many who would do anything to harm you, and I am linked to you anyway. As long as this situation persists, I shouldn't get close to anybody, I must walk on my own." She sighed, seeking for calmness.
"There must be a place where you want to stay." The puppet insisted.
"You cannot take me there." Anna passed by his side, resented for not being the real him there to say goodbye, but at that time she seemed to be already used to Naraku's insistence on running from tough situations.
The white baboon turned, contemplating the lass walking alone into the dead forest ahead.
"Please, don't follow me." Belle asked before vanishing between leafless trees.

Naraku held the wooden sculpture in his hand and destroyed it himself. He felt tempted to go fetch her, to give her shelter, yet the infinite souls lurking, yearning for his own made him remember every torment he had endured inside Mount Hakurei, when the hanyo was recovering his strength and rebuilding his body. Being with the woman would only distract him from his true mission, which abandoning wasn't a matter of choice anymore. If it wasn't him, it would be any other carrying the same burden, Shikon no Tama would always win in the end. Besides, his acts were unforgivable and had no return, it wasn't like Naraku could give up everything and no one would chase him for a reckoning. At last, one way or another, any relationship he could have with Annabelle would be finite. Having a yokai essence, he would live far longer than the lass, to watch her death would be inevitable. Although the spider didn't believe in fate, that was a fact he discovered not even the Jewel of Four Souls would change – human life's brevity.
I shall fulfill my role. He decided. But, first, I have to do something. Naraku raised from the floor and walked inside his new hiding place, smaller than his former castle. However, on a dark corner of that empty room there was an old chest. He opened it and rummaged inside, till finding a map painted in nankin on the bottom, the paper was already grimy. Thanks to some lessons of Gaelic and English he took from the lass, Naraku managed to read it.
"So, I'm waiting for your orders..." a soft, discretely bored voice sounded from the entrance.
"Come see something." Naraku said, still on his back to the fellow.
With folded arms, the hanyo's new accomplice sighed and followed him to a sort of basement.
There below, illuminated by some candles there was a dusty golden harp.
"Well, well... what a curious object." The lad blinked sometimes. "It must worth a fortune!" He chuckled.
"I will entrust a task to you, Byakuya. No one but you and a yokai you will find must know. Understood?" The spider turned around, staring his vassal so sternly that it felt chilling.
"Right, right!" He waved his hands nervously. "Just tell me what to do then."
"Very well.." less hostile, yet still sounding serious, Naraku started to explain his plan. As he was giving the coordinates, his new incarnation grimaced sometimes, wondering what would be the point of such strange ideas.
To be continued...

Hey, people! Today is a holiday in here, so I could come to share another chapter with you :D
I couldn't resist and named another chapter based on an Evanescence song which is called Understanding (Wash it all away), so... anyways, I believe it sounds better than "Rescue", the name I was intending to use, but couldn't stop thinking about the song while writing scenes of Naraku bathing Annabelle. So here it is, hehe!
We are officially entering Kanketsu-hen arch. Please tell me if something got confusing.
Just to clarify, Hakudoshi died the same way he did in the anime, alright? The things I changed in the original plot will be described in the fanfiction, what I didn't mention is because occured exactly like the cannon, but Annabelle wasn't there to watch (Abi's arch, the last shard on the netherworld, etc. This fic is already HUGE, if I would explore every single detail and character from the original this story would never end LOL).
That's what we have for today, hope you all have enjoyed!
See ya, kissuuus!!!
